Software Update doesn't work

I just upgraded from Tiger to Leopard (10.5.2) and I've been getting quite a few error messages since then (application quit unexpectedly) with various programs, but the one that concerns me most is if I manually go into Software Update. Does anyone have any ideas as to why this might be happening?

I know I was having a lot of problems with apps loading when I was still running Tiger, (and later found out because they weren't compatible with the old OS.)
Are you sure you did a complete upgrade? It sounds like it may not have done a full install.
Try reinstalling 10.5.2 COMPLETE INSTALL, and see if that doesn't fix your problem.

  • 27" display and late '09 MBP 13" - Display software update **doesn't work**

    Hello All,
My shiny new 27" LED cinema display arrived today. The display is stunning, but when I downloaded and installed the "LED Cinema Display Software Update 1.0" (http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1107) on my mid-'09 MBP 13" it doesn't work!!
The installation completes successfully, but after rebooting and checking system preferences, I don't get the brightness slider etc nor the option to use the built-in speakers in the display.
Please advise if you have any advice or thoughts on the matter.
    Many thanks,
    Rob

Apple got hold of me and we went through some trouble-shooting steps. Turns out that the USB connector, although fully plugged in, was somehow not seated correctly and was thus not recognizing the display and speaker etc.
    Happily resolved!

  • Software Update Doesn't Work - Now getting software error message

The software update still doesn't work.  Now when I get the red triangle with the red exclamation point, when I start to remove the back of the phone I get an orange error message that takes up most of the screen.  At the end of the message it says that there is a problem with the ota__.zip package.  Then it gives me the option of rebooting.
Does anyone know if/when this software problem will be fixed?
I would definitely not recommend this phone to anyone.  Phone doesn't work, VZ and HTC can't fix the problem.
    Thanks.

It is not my problem!!  First of all, I don't ask for the download to start.  It starts on its own, several times a day.  Second, I use WiFi connection because 4G rarely works.
Third, I did everything Verizon said to do - I went to a local VZ Wireless store where they did a factory reset.  Then they tried the download - it took 3 hours to download and then the update failed.
Up until today the phone itself (not me) tried to download and apply the update several times per day.  Each time it fails.  The screen displays a black background with a red triangle with a red exclamation point through it.  Up until today I had to remove the back of the phone and then remove and replace the battery to unlock the phone.
Today when I started to remove the back of the phone the orange error messages appeared as stated in my original post.
Verizon also recommended talking to HTC which I did and they had no idea what the problem was.
Verizon also told me that if the update still failed after the factory reset they would send me a new phone.  I said okay but they sent me a used phone instead (factory refurbished).  They said they should not have told me they would send me a new phone.  Then they said that when I return the phone if it gets lost then Verizon will bill me for the phone and I will have to get the money back from Fedex.  Outrageous!  Verizon didn't send me the phone they said they would and then said I would be billed for the cost of the phone if Fedex lost it.  I have never experienced such poor "customer service"  (or should I say customer unservice).
I prefer Android and Microsoft Windows to anything Apple but I am seriously considering getting an iphone since this phone doesn't work and isn't supported.

  • Phone Software update doesn't work with WiFi

    Can someone please help.
I have an unlocked N97Mini. I'm trying to update the software version from 10.something to the currently available 12.something. For some reason my USB chord doesn't work (it only charges the phone, that's it) so I'm unable to use PC Suite. I tried to update the software wirelessly using WiFi but it won't let me do it, everytime I select on Phone Software under Application->SF Update it opens a pop up that says I have to use PC Suite. I uploaded other software through WiFi before such as OVI music, but it won't let me do it for the Phone Software.
Please help. How can I update my Phone Software wirelessly?
    Thanks
    Andrei

If you get the message that you need to use PC for updating the phone software, the software for your device variant may not yet be available for over-the-air update and you must do it via PC. You can check also if the same thing happens if you type *#0000# and select in this menu Options > Check for updates.
If PC Suite is not working with your device, try installing the latest Ovi Suite version in your PC.

  • IPod touch 5.1 Wi-Fi Software Update doesn't work

    Hi.
My existing iPod touch (firmware 5.0.1) Wi-Fi connection to my router works fine.
However I tried to update to firmware 5.1 now. No success. The Software Update starts showing 174 MB to go, but the progress bar doesn't fill. After #5 minutes, the iPod touch shows a failed upgrade message.
When I connect this iPod touch to an iPhone 4 Personal Hotspot (which is connected via 3G to the Internet), the update starts!
Are there any known issues doing a Software Update using router?
    I use a FRITZ!Bos 7390.
    Thanks,

  • Software Update doesn't work after new SSD install

I just installed a new SSD into my five year old MacBookPro (CoreDuo). I am taking the opportunity to reinstall from the ground up, getting rid of a lot of the cruft I've gathered over the years. I installed 10.6 fresh from the DVD and then ran software update. I could update iTunes, Airport, etc, but couldn't run the 10.6.6 combo updater. I was told that the file was corrupted during download and wouldn't expand.
I downloaded the standalone combo updater from the website and that worked fine. However, when I went to install the drivers for my printers via the System Preferences function, I get the same error. Is there a setting or something that I missed?

In 10.6.8 Apple won't allow Mac's to connect to WEP Encrypted networks, and won't reconnect to "hidden" networks automatically.

My software update dosent work. It has worked in the past, but one day it just stopped working... it returnes with an error saying "Sorry, an unexpected error occurred. The Installer package has been moved to the Trash. To try again, open the package from the Finder."
    PLEASE HELP!!!

It sounds like you are fairly new to the upgrade process. Here's the basic gist of what makes updates succeed:

While many of the steps aren't always necessary they cause the least amount of trouble.

  • Software Updater doesn't work, can't shut down my mac

    Hi,
I am using the Mac OS 10.5 and have a problem with my Software Updater. If I open the "Software Updater" from the Apple-Menu nothing happens, if i press on the button "Software Updater" in the "About this Mac" window, again no reaction. If I open the "System Preferences" and click there on "Search" in the window "Software Updater" again nothing happens.
I have another problem which might occured at the same time as the discribed above. If I shutdown my mac it starts shutting down but then goes to the LogIn menu of my account, if i try to shut it down there it starts shutting down and comes back to the logIn menu.
The problem startet to occure after I ones interrupted the software update.
Yesterday I installed the Combo Update for Mac OS X 10.5.6 (before 10.5.5) which I downloaded from the Apple website, but it didnt help. Basicaly before I installed the update the buttons for the Sofware Updater couldnt even been clicked and if I was shutting down the notebook it went to this supernova background picture which I had when i was turning on my mac for the first time.
Any ideas how i can solve this problems? Searched the web but could find anything.
    Thanks in advace
    Zhe

It sounds like the aborted software update messed up your system.
I'd opt for an Archive & Install of Mac OS X using your Leopard DVD.

  • Random Crashes / Software Update doesn't Work

Random crashes : System Preferences... etc. Suggestions on what to do?
    Macbook (13 inch, Late 2009 - 6,1)

You need to have the install DVD's that came with your friends MacBook....the DVD's are machine specific.....
The link you provided was a screen shot of a 'Kernel Panic'....
To run Disk Utility (First Aid) from the DVD you need to make sure that it is the same version of OSX that is installed on the MacBook now....in other words Disk Utility on a Leopard DVD should not be used on a Snow Leopard system.....
Most likely using the Software Updater and installing updates on a damaged system has made things worse (Kernel Panic).......

    Hello,
Try to uninstall it, and re install it again.
When you are running Nokia Software Updater, make sure you exit Nokia PC Suite.

  • Automatic Software Update Doesn't Work

Hi!  On my older Macbook and on my Macbook Pro, when I click on System Updates in the apple menu the computer looks like it's trying to find updates but then it says it isn't connected to the internet.  I know that my computers are connected though and I'm thinking there is a setting somewhere that needs to be changed, I'm just not sure what it might be.  Any help is appreciated.  Thanks!

  • Lion 10.7.2 Software Update doesn't offer Lion 10.7.3

    2007 Mac Pro 3GHZ (2,1) with Lion 10.7.2.
Software Update doesn't see that the 10.7.3 update is available for this machine. I successfully upgraded a MacBook Pro using Software Update, but this machine doesn't find it. So, I've downloaded the Combo Update and will run it tomorrow, unless someone here thinks something else is amiss.

It's definitely not being presented to some machines.
My Mid-2011 Mac Mini Server was presented the update via Software Update and installed fine.
My Mid-2011 27", Early-2009 24" iMacs and my Mid-2010 Macbook Pro aren't being presented the update.
As a question, are you using Filevault by any chance? It's the only common thread I can find between the three that aren't working for me.
Edit:  Give the Combo update a shot.   Looks to have worked fine for me.

  • "Software update" doesn't do anything whatsoever!

I have run "Software update" on my new Intel Mac Pro (10.4.9) successfully. Today, no matter how many times I select it from the Apple menu of Finder, the "Software update" doesn't do anything: no error, no "checking at Apple", nothing! Has anyone seen this, and what can I do to make it work again?
    Mike

Go to System Preferences/Software Update, and
    initiate it from there.
aha! That worked - great, thanks. Do you know why it stopped working from the Apple menu?!?
    It should start working from
the Apple Menu after you do. To prove it, as SU
begins to run from System Preferences, click on the
Finder, then select SU from the Apple Menu. It should
immediately bring you to the SU window.
nope - this one didn't work. I tried clicking on it from Apple while it was "checking" and nothing happened. But after it was done checking, it did bring up the "new software is available for your computer" window.
So, it's not the end of the world since I can now run it from System Preferences, but it's kind of worrysome that it just stopped working. Also, does this mean it won't happen automatically (on a schedule)?
