It sounds like a hardware problem to me. Unfortunately we can only assist you with software issues. You should get it checked out at your local Nokia Care Point.

how can i get this ipod reset.  She now has an iphone so this is going to be used by someone else in the family and should be simple to do but itunes just keeps booting it out even though it recognises that it was previously connected to our itunes account as all of the children were on my account

That has nothing to do with an update server. Do the following:
Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.
iOS: Forgot passcode or device disabled
If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.

  • "Software Update Failure - an error occurred installing i0S6."

I tried to update my iphone 4 through my settings and got the error "Software Update Failure - an error occurred installing i0S6." This is not the first time that happens. I got the same error in the last 3 ios updates. The only way that I found to solve was to update by itunes, but as we have the option to update through iphone, I want to do that.
Any suggestions on how to solve this problem will be most appreciated.

In the last 3 ios updates I had to use itunes because through the settings I always get the same error message. The point is that I don't want to use the itunes. I want apple to fix the problem (as I can see I'm not the only one having problem). I have 2 friends that did the update in the same time that I was trying to do, and for both them it worked.

  • Software Update Failure (Curve 8520) using a Mac

    Blackberry Website - http://uk.blackberry.com/software/smartphones/update/smartphone.html
    says,
"Update on the web - On a Mac
    • You will need to download BlackBerry® Desktop Software to update your smartphone software. Once installed, connect your smartphone to your computer and you will automatically be prompted to update."
    - It DOESN'T automatically update
    - We have to open BlackBerry Desktop Software file which has Import Media, Device Options buttons on the main screen, as well as Back Up, Restore, Applications and Sync buttons on the Tool Bar
    - When we click on Applications, a box comes up with a list of apps (checked and unchecked boxes), Check for Updates, Cancel and Start. buttons  If we click on Check for Updates we get "There are no updates available for your BlackBerry device".  If we click on Start we get a message which reads:
"BlackBerry® Desktop Software failed to validate your BlackBerry® device update.
Aborting install due to validation failure. Some packages contained unsatisfied dependencies"
We tried to "Reload BBM" which resulted in loss of contacts and lots of tears, so we "Restored".  Since doing this contacts have been restored BUT we now cannot connect to WiFi. Message reads, " This wireless router supports WiFi Protected Set-Up. To connect using a PIN (which your Blackberry will generate), click Next'.  We are then asked to enter a PIN into the router - How are we supposed to do that if the router doesn't have a keyboard?

  • Software Updates failure

For the past 10 days, when I run Software Updates, it always fails for every update and gives me a message:
Make sure you have permission to write to /tmp/502/TemporaryItems/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate, then try again.
I have tried Repairing Permissions and using a different administrator account but neither works. I can't 'Find' the location specified on my Macintosh HD. Is it referring to an Apple server? Anybody have a solution to this problem?

    Hi C177B,
First off, Welcome to the Apple Discussions!!!
    This topic discusses the very
problem you seem to be having.

    Hi Jeff -
Thanks for your reply. I read the post you suggested and tried implementing the solutions proposed there. Specifically, I tried to repair a broken /tmp logical link via the terminal command 'sudo' as described. Software Updates still gave the same error message.
Then I tried to repair the the hard drive via the Installer and Disk Utility program. This resulted in an 'invalid extent entry, Volume check failed' message, followed by the message 'Underlying task reported failure on exit (-9972).'
Next I backed up my hard drive and did an erase and re-install from my Mac OS X 10.3 CDs. Upon completion of the install, Software Updates ran, showing 9 updates to install. I started the update process and got exactly the same message I had received before doing the reinstall, i.e. 'Make sure you have permission to write to /tmp/501/TemporaryItems/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate, then try again.'
At this point I don't have much hair left and My OS is stuck at 10.3. Any other ideas?

  • HELP ASAP! Crashes after Software Update Failure.

Last night, used Software Update on iMac to update to Safari 5.0.4, Mac OSX 10.6.7 (OS is now 10.6.6), Java for 10.6 Update 4 and iTunes 10.2.1. It took a long time to Update--about 30-45 minutes--was at "putting things in their place" (or whatever) stage, then Update unsuccessful. Tried again this morning but only updated Mac OSX. Same thing happened.
Safari works, Word works but Pages does not. Also get WebKit and Flash plugin fail messages. Computer is very slow.
Ran Disk Repair from Application-->Utilities. Must Repair Disk. Started up from install disk, ran Disk Repair, got "Invalid Node Structure/1 volume could not be repaired because of an error" message.
Restarted on OSX 10.6.6 and did Hardware Test: No Problems. Shut down and Restarted on 10.6.6. Restarted a few more times just for good measure. Same thing happening.
Big project due for work tomorrow--of course everything is in Pages.
I have a WD Passport External back-up which I've never had to access. Can I get my Pages files to at least print out from the back-up?
What do I need to do to fix Invalid Node Structure? Please, please HELP!

I have a WD Passport Back up and it auto backs up every 30 - 60 minutes (can't remember what I set it at). I have Time Machine but haven't turned it on because I thought it might conflict with the Passport. I just tried to open the Passport and now it, too, is crashing.
Would turning on Time Machine mess things up if Passport is still working?
I did figure out a few ways to retrieve content from Pages. Attach the file to an email and mail it to someone who also has Pages. (My husband does but I think it's a diff. version because he can't ever open pages files I email to him.) The other way is to highlight the file in the folder, go to Finder-->File-->Quick Look. It will open a window with a readable version of the file, however you can't do much else with it--like print it. I took a screen capture of my file and then printed it out. Eureka!
But my computer is still screwed.
Thanks for all of your help! Let me know about turning Time Machine on.

  • OSX 10.6.8 MacPro software update failures

My software update file is not operating correctly.  First i get network errors when my internet is working properly.  When i run diagnostics I am able to connect and downlaod updates, but then on installation I get file corruption errors.  I purchased the upgrade to Lion and I cannot download that off the apple store sight either.  I get the same network error when the internet is working fine.  Has anyone else had this problem, know how to fix?  This is a recent problem (last couple of weeks) prior to that software updates ran trouble free.
    Please help.  Chris

Whenever possible, I get my updates manually from the Apple download site (http://support.apple.com/downloads/) instead of automatically. That way, if the download crashes the OS or app isn't impacted. You just start another download.
I believe that paid upgrades have an option to get a flash drive for installations that can't be done online..

  • Some thoughts on Permissions Repair Failure and Software Update Failure

Here is what I am thinking about these issues. There are a few documented errors that are common when permissions repair is performed and the general consensus at this point is that these errors do not constitute a grave concern. But not being able to repair permissions at all is not good and having this process take an inordinate amount of time is also not good. Also, having the software update crash or fail to run sucessfully or cause additional problems is not good.
I believe these are indications of a low level corruption of the OS. Where this corruption resides or what caused it is open to speculation and may (will) vary from system to system. In any case, were these problems happening on my computer I would be concerned enough to consider backing up my system and performing a complete reformatting of the hard drive and reinstalling the OS "from scratch". Of course I would attempt all of the "known fixes" first but if these were not successful or were only partially successful, I would reinstall on a reformatted drive. When I say "reformatted" what I mean is that I would delete all partitions, "zero" the drive, create new partitions and go from there.

It's one of the permissions you can safely ignore without any problem. See > http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1448

  • Software update failure

Software update is constantly failing. Tells me everything has downloaded then get "None of the selected updates could be installed" with the helpful "An unexpected error occurred". Anyone help?!
Have tried repairing and verifying everything, plugged in, restarts etc etc. I'm not sure when it started - probably a while ago but as ignored as was only a printer update. Now it's Safari, iTunes, Jave, Security and everything else...
Really have no ideas here and all help greatly appreciated!

Try starting in Safe Mode and see if the problem still occurs?
    Restart holding the "shift" key.
(Expect it to take longer to start this way because it runs a directory check first.)

  • N82 software updates failure

I updated my firmware to V31.0.016 about a month ago because my phone used to shut down but I realised this only happened when playing music.
.The phone worked very well the 1st week or so after the update but now the button on my headset (HS-43) doesn't skip tracks but it does everything else that it's supposed to do. to add to that: all of a sudden the phone takes forever, to start up the camera, open the music player or even to display my pictures. every now and then it will hang when trying to access the features I just mentioned.
All my media is stored on my memory card(2gig that came with the phone).
Could my problems be caused by a corrupted memory card?
does the software update also update the music and media player programs or just the OS?
Show your appreciation. Hit that kudos button real hard

Unfortunately there is no easy way to tell if the card is the original or not.  The cards that nokia uses are either nokia branded or unbranded.  In the past there has been issues with some nokia 2GB cards failing.
Formatting your card (wiping out your data) should speed the phone back up.  Also be sure to install applications to the phones memory to help it keep on running quickly.

  • Software update failure due to network problem

I am always connected to the internet via a good connection. However, every time I try to run a software update, I get the following error message
"A networking error has occurred: timed out (-1001). Make sure you can connect to the Internet, then try again."
But my netwrok connection remains good and intact. Anyone able to help me?

One thing you'll want too check is that your computer is pointing at Apple's software update server. Also verify that your firewall isn't blocking port 8088, which is used for the software updates.
To check what software update server is being used, check
    /Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate
Look for the url with port 8088. If it's pointing to Apple, I believe it will look something like swupdate.apple.com:8088. If it's pointing to something else, you can change it back from a Terminal command line:
sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate CatalogURL "http://swupdate.apple.com:8088/"
(all one line .. line wrap was due to length)

  • Software Update Failure - Mid 2010 iMac / OSX 10.6.4

I just received a never before opened or used iMac that was sitting in a storage room at work since 2010.  I have been attempting to update the software but it always fails.  I have tried by clicking on the Software Update button located under About this Mac and through Apples website.  Same error every time.  I don't need to do anything fancy, just wanted to update to the latest software / OSX Mavericks.  From what I have read my model is new enough and should upgrade, any help is appreciated.

If this Mac is still on OS X 10.6.4, you need to use the OS X Software Update feature in the OS X System Prefernces Panel to update to OS X 10.6.8.
This update will  give you access to the Mac App Store where you can upgrade your Mac to OS X Mavericks.
What year, screen size, CPU speed and amount of RAM installed?
To find out info about your system,
click on the Apple symbol in the upper left of the OS X main menu bar. A drop down menu appears.
Click About this Mac. A smaller popup window appears. This gives you basic info like what version of OS X your iMac is running, the speed of your iMac's CPU and how much RAM is installed.
Click on the button that says More Info. A larger window appears giving you a complete overview of your iMac's hardware specs.
Highlight all of this info and copy/paste all of this into another reply to this post, editing out your iMac's serial number before actually posting the reply.
This will tell us everything about your iMac so we may begin to help with your iMac issues.
Before upgrading to OS X Mavericks, make sure that your Mac has, at least 4 GBs of RAM installed and meets these other requirements.
To install Mavericks, you need one of these Macs:
    iMac (Mid-2007 or later)
MacBook (13-inch Aluminum, Late 2008), (13-inch, Early 2009 or later)
MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid-2009 or later),
    MacBook Pro (15-inch or 17-inch, Mid/Late 2007 or later)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or later)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or later)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or later)
    Xserve (Early 2009)
    Your Mac also needs:
OS X Mountain Lion, Lion, or Snow Leopard v10.6.8 already installed
2 GB or more of memory
8 GB or more of available space

  • Nokia 6233 Software Update failure

    Dear Guyz,
A friend of mine asked me to update his 6233, his software version was 5.10 and i found that an update is available to upgrade it to 5.60 ... everything started ok ,, a msg on the screen said "Test Mode" and then the computer Disconnect the mobile , the update stopped and it says the update is failure.. i followed the instructions to remove the battery restart the operation .. i did and when it reached the " test mode " again the mobile was disconnected from The Pc and the failure happened again .. i unplugged the mobile and turn it on, it did work but nothing changed only the version said it is 5.60 but i still got everything .. contact, msgs, welcome note, everything .. so i think the opration just changed the version namely only.
how can i update it succesfully .. and what is the problem???
    thanks,

You can be sure because the version number changed.
That cannot change unless an update has been successful.
If you want clarification of this you will need to take your phone to a nokia care point for inspection.
