Software update for CS-10 for Mac OS X 10.6

I see that a software update has been released for the CS-10 internet stick.  However, it appears to be for Windows users only.
Is there any intention to release an update to support Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard)?  I am unable to use the CS-10 after switching to Snow Leopard.  It searches for the device for a long time, with the red light flashing, and then gives various error messages (problem with device, SIM etc).  The console log shows that it produces repeated error log calls to com.icera.zerocd (every 10 seconds).  These messages only appear after the software has been installed from the CS-10 device.  Trashing the Nokia Modem app and restarting stops the stream of messages.  I assume that the device has stuff from IceraSemi inside.
I hope that someone is looking into this...

Hi Oliver,
Thanks for your prompt reply.
It looks as if Nokia didn't actually write the Nokia Modem app, which appears very similar to the WellPhone product developed by SmartCom (http://www.smartcom.com/WPmac_smartcom.html), and the error messages refer to a icera device, which I assume uses firmware from Icera Semiconductors.  But Nokia has integrated them together.  Did anyone test this for Mac OS X 10.6?  As I only bought the device at the end of August, I am a bit concerned that Nokia consider that it is already obsolete.
I see on your website, that the CS-15 product is shown as compatable with 10.6.  Does this imply that is has a different version of the Nokia Modem app (the CS-10 was delivered with version 3.8).  If so, where can I get a copy of the Nokia Modem app that will work with the CS-15?
Thanks
Richard

I have the latest operating system, but can't get my printers added. Why does the software update say that drivers for my printers are not available? I have the drivers installed from the CD but can't add the printer because it wants to go through software update.

It's pretty difficult to offer suggestions when you say nothing about your Mac, the version of Mac OS it's running, or the models of printers you have. This forum, however, is intended for questions about old, pre-G3 hardware, so unless you are asking about an very old Mac, this is not the forum where you'll be most likely to get help with your problem. I'd suggest you ask this question in the forum for your model of Mac or version of Mac OS X it's running. You'll be more likely to get assistance there, assuming you provide sufficient detail for anyone to make a diagnosis of the problem.
    Regards.

I just did a software update that was apparently for iPhoto. When I try to open iPhoto it stops at "step 5" and will not go further. what do I do?

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • Software Update can't check for updates because of a network problem....after firmware update

I just bought a MBP w/Lion (10.7.4) and ran software update.  The first two items I updated were firmware for SMC (ver 1.5) and EFI (ver 2.7) and now my MBP says: "Software Update can't check for updates because of a network problem."  However, I can connect to the Internet to surf the web just fine.  This is the only update I've made.  Can firmware be uninstalled?  If I reverted to the image on my external drive that I did with CCC prior to the update, would that fix it?

Hi! i hope i'm able to explain what i worked out and what worked for me. I had the same message coming up "no internet connection, run network/internet diagnosis" etc etc. Internet connection was fine. What i finally did:
Open airport, check internet, internet options ; with me, IPv6 was set as  this (the letters are in german order and not in a english order, sorry...):
In system prefs, network/TCP/IP  IPv6 was set to "automatic":
I did change the settings in Airport back to "Link Local" and Software Update worked immediately normal whithout restarting the computer.
No idea what changed the settings; however i did run permission repairs beforehand with no connection to any problems, just as a normal kind of 'maintenance routine'.
Hope this helps others, it worked for me.
    Cheers

  • "Software update can't check for updates because of a network problem" - help!

Recently, when I perform a software update check on the pulldown Apple menu, I get this error:
"Software update can't check for updates because of a network problem."
The only problem is that my network works just fine. I use the internet and get emails without any problem. But I can't figure how I can fix Software Update.
The only relevant updates have been for Glims and 1Password. Oh, and note the same problem trying to access the App Store; I just get a "Can't connect to the App Store" error.
    Any hints?

I have to solve all my own problems.
The problem was due to Little Snitch. Once I upgraded from 2.4.0 to 2.4.2, my system works swimmingly again.
    FIXED!

  • Software Update can't check for updates (Lion)

Just downloaded and installed OSX 10.7. Tried to run Software Update and get the following alert:
'Software Update can't check for updates because of a network problem. The file “index-lion-snowleopard-leopard.merged-1.sucatalog” couldn’t be found on the server “swscan.apple.com”.'
Repaired permissions, created new user account... Issue persists. I'm connected to the internet. Software Update System Preference has no entries in the "Software Installed' tab.

No I haven't tried to get the individually. I will just wait because I am not the only one in our household who's iTunes won't download app updates.
The Software Update error has also now changed to:
Software Update can't check for updates because of a network problem.
A network error has occurred. Check your Internet connection, and then try again.
as opposed to earlier when it read:
Software Update can't check for updates because of a network problem.
The file “index-lion-snowleopard-leopard.merged-1.sucatalog” couldn’t be found on the server “matsus2.matilda.net.au”.
So something has changed in the last few hours. Maybe it's not my computer and just something to do with the apple servers. The matsus2.matilda.net.au is the interesting thing as it has no relevance to our internet or home network.

Installing Software Update has been running for over an hour, anyone else have the same issue?

Hopefully it's been resolved by now - I have no idea how large each one of those files are. The progress bar tells you; FWIW, I only download one at a time - makes it easier and faster and you can choose to do the next one when you have time.

A few days ago, my HP printer software updated automatically, everything seemed fine (Mac is running Maverick, my laptop is Snow Leopard).  Out of the blue yesterday, my printer stopped printing (neither Mac can connect), I have tried everything.  Both the suggestion from HP and Apple, it's making me crazy I've spent most of time trying to fix it.

    You tried exactly what ?
I most of the time would start with the same Apple Printer Support page tech articles
OS X Mountain Lion and OS X Lion systems will have the necessary printing software already installed, or will automatically download and install software when the printer is connected or configured. Do not install software that came with the printer as it may be out of date, and do not connect the printer to your Mac yet. Follow the instructions that came with the printer to unpack, install ink or toner, and insert paper.  Finally, use the instructions in this article to connect the printer to your Mac.
Make sure the printer model is listed in Printer and scanner software, which is a comprehensive list of all printer models that have compatible software for OS X Mountain Lion and OS X Lion.
    How to add a printer
Start a print job on the Mac and manage its options
    Generate and manage PDFs
Manage the printer queue and printer dock icon
    Share the printer queue
Mac OS Printing/Fax (any version), OS X Lion, OS X Mountain Lion
    http://www.apple.com/support/osx/
printing in OS X Mountain Lion
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4670
Try to delete the print queue under Print & Fax / Print & Scan then manually add a print queue.
    Steps here: http://bit.ly/TdUuHL
If it doesn't work, reset the printing system:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1341
then add another print queue manually.

  • Other than main software update, how should I prepare Mac for Lion?

I'm not at all talented at updating software and operating systems, etc.
I am aware that i should do the software update from the apple symbol menu on the top left of our screens, but other than that I am unsure about anything else i should do before instaling Lion.
I've resisted the urge to download it so far, i thought I'd wait to see how it went.
One way or the other, i am going to get it, if thats where Apple wants to go, then it makes sense to follow them there, while i'm using a mac, but I just want to make sure I'm not one of those that are current;ly being told that they should have checked this or that before installing.
I don't have any expensive applications to worry about becoming disfunctional, i don't really have that many apps on the iMac at all, but things like flash worry me, I'm terrible at comprehending the file system on any computer, so moving things around and deleting things terrifies me.
Anyway, I just wondered if someone could give me a small checklist to refer to before I let the Lion out of it's cage.
    Thanks.

First as mentioned above have a clone backup handy. HDD are cheap these days I personally have a clone copy of my snow leopard system in case I need it.  Use carbon copy cloner or superduper!
Then make sure you dont need any of the any PowerPC only application. A way to do this is found on this page http://www.cultofmac.com/os-x-lion-kills-rosetta-powerpc-support-heres-what-to-d o-about-it/103458 .
If you don't need any of these applications then go ahead and delete them.  Lion kills support for these applications so you won't be able to open them.
A list of compatible liion application is found here http://roaringapps.com/
then you can go ahead and upgrade or make clean install of lion.  I personally prefer the clean install and is what I did.  I prefer to erase my whole hardd drive and install clean.  Then used migration assistant and my clone backup to import all my settings and applications.  You can also install all applications from scratch if you prefer.
If you want to make a bootable DVD or USB stick to make a clean install it's easy just contact me if you want the steps.
    Hope this helped.

  • Should using the software update service be faster for the clients then downloading from apple?

I've got about 25 clients, a mixture of Snow Leopard and Lion systems in the office. I've recently turned on the Software update service on my snow leopard server (10.6.8, mac mini) and have a transparent server setup for the software updates service (dns redirects through the mini). All the machines see the mini and I believe they are pulling updates from it when the client runs their software update. I haven't noticed any real speed differnce though from pulling updates from the mini vs pulling from apple (though I have noticed less internet congestion).
Should this be faster because it's a local network transfer or not?
    Thanks!

I'm a little concerned by the statement:
    dns redirects through the mini
Are you saying you're masking Apple's DNS so that requests for swupdate.apple.com end up on your machine? That's the wrong approach. You should be setting the client's preferences to load from your server instead of Apple's.
In either case, there are three components to running Software Updaate.
1: download the catalog of available updates and compare what's installed to the list to identify which updates are needed
    2: download the appropriate updates
    3: install the updates.
Of the three steps, downloading the catalog is a lightweight process - the index is only a few hundred KB, so the difference in loading this from your server vs. Apple's is minimal. Additionally, this won't make any difference in the amount of time it takes the client to scan for which updates are needed since that's all work performed locally on the machine.
The only step that will be significantly faster is the actual downloading of available updates. These should happen at LAN speeds, rather than your internet connection speed (which is, presumably, slower), but then again, most updates are fairly small - a few megabytes is typical.
However, if no updates are available, or if they're only small, you won't see much difference in time between local and remote. The main advantage of using a local software update server is that you only need to download the updates from Apple once, rather than once per client.

  • Software Update won't check for updates automatically

    Hello
Since my update to Lion, the automated Software Update (Preferences -> Software Update) won't check automatically for updates, even if it's configurated to check daily. I can see this behaviour on different MacBooks with Lion.
If I check manually, I'll get all necessary updates - but not automatically.
Do you've an idea or the same issue?
    Thanks & Regards

If your logged in as Standard User it won't check.

    Hi Mate,
Its really difficult to do get the installed date of the patches as there is no table available in SCCM  DB to pull this info i had a requirement in the past but i was unable to do had done it via work around.
This can be done after editing of sms_def.mof file or else using the power-shell script in windows server 2008 where the powershell is a feature by default.
    H/W inventory:
For the 2000 servers this has to be installed but if we enable this its mentioned it may utilize upto 100 % of the Memory during the h/w inventory you can check that in your SMS_DEF.MOF  -
QuickFixEngineering you can see the warning.uickFixEngineering
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/279225/en-us
    Powershell script:
    http://msmvps.com/blogs/richardsiddaway/archive/2011/10/23/1760058.aspx
the warning for the quick fix engineering is not there on 2012 but there on 2007 hope the info help you to achieve your output.
