Software update, iLife and Mountain Lion

When I purchased my mac, it came with Snow Leopard, and iLife (iPhoto, iMovie, Garageband etc) on disc. I upgraded to Lion last year.
Since iLife came with my Mac, and not from the app store, I received all updates through software update.
I heard that software update is done away with in Mountain Lion. So what happens to my apps? Will my iLife apps automagically be recognized and updated through the app store?
More importantly, I purchased the disc version of Logic Studio (39GB of content!). I am particularly appreciative of the disc version of Logic since it has more content than when you download from the app store, and I can't afford to download 39GB of content. I don't want to upgrade to Mountain Lion if it messes up my Logic.
I don't want to have to purchase my apps again.
Is anyone else in the same situation as me? Have you upgraded to Mountain Lion? What has happened to your apps? Do they get recognized by the app store?
If you reinstall mountain lion, then what happens to your apps?

Also a little heads up, if you do a clean install of Mountain Lion you won't be able to install the iLife apps via the DVD you will receive an error. Apple suggests doing a Clean install of Snow Leopard, then installing iLife via the DVD, and then upgrading to Mountain Lion. What I did was a clean install of Mountain Lion and then I transferred the iLife apps from my Time Machine backup.
Or the simple process of just upgrading works. (I personally prefer clean installs, but they aren't required.)

  • Software Update problem in Mountain Lion

Why do I keep getting "The operation couldn’t be completed. (NSURLErrorDomain error -1100.)" when checking for software updates?

There are many people suffering from this problem right now (including me). It appears to be a server issue. Just wait and try checking for updates again tomorrow.
Some things I have heard indicate that this may be a regional problem, though what parts of the world are affected I don't know yet. A few people have been helped by deleting the following preference file (paste the path into the Go -> Go to Folder window in the Finder to locate it), though most have not:
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist

  • HT1338 Should I delete "Software Update.app" in Mountain Lion?

...seems pretty unelegant for OS 10.8 to leave it taking up space in the Applications folder...and also a bit "confusing"...

I upgraded from 10.6.8 to 10.8...anybody got a definate answer?
Here's what Finder Info window shows for the file "Software Update.app" - which IS still in My Applications folder...
"Automator Launcher version 1.0, Copyright 2004 Apple Computer, Inc."
...Created and Modified dates of the file date to 2008 (same date)
...clicking "Software Update..." from Apple menu does indeed open App Store app to search for updates...
...So, not a real bg deal of course, but I think my original question/observation still holds.
And a suggestion, therefore to Apple: create a customizable Updater app, into which users can add Third-Party apps...updates for EVERYTHING are almost constantly coming...wouldn't it be great if a thoughtful user could just click on one app in the most excellent MAC environment and get all possible updates for installed software, no matter the vendor?

  • I can't install a update softwares on os x Mountain Lion

    Hello
After installing an SSD in a MacBook Pro (replacing the internal hard disk of origin), I tried an installation of OS 10.8 (Lion Mountain) from an USB key created with DiskMaker X application.
Then, I moved iLife'11 from an official installation DVD.
But when I want to perform software updates from the Mac App Store, I have available the updated OS 10.9 Mavericks.
No update for OS 10.8 or iLife'11 appear in the Updates section of the App Store application.
    Is there another solution ?
    Thanks

Mac OS X 10.8 may be updated to 10.8.5 using the combo update:
OS X Mountain Lion Update v10.8.5 (Combo)
Additional updates may be found on:
    Apple security updates
Once you find the name of the update you want, Google:
    support.apple.com DL 'name of update'
Where name of update is what appears as the name on the security update link.
iLife '11 has applications listed on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ILife which you can find if you need a patch for the individual application, much in the same manner as finding the security updates for Mac OS X.

I am still in the return window but i really do not want to return my mac as i know it has the ability to do what i want, my problem is just finding the software that will work as i know there has been a lot of complications with OS X Mountain Lion with softwares that caim to be compatible but then later turn out not to be.
I have been a windows user for years and this is really my first mac but apart from the hole software issue i find the mac 10x better than any windows computer i have ever used. For example i bought a HP laptop 4 weeks ago and has nothing but problems. At first the fans stopped working and making weird noises and then it began switching off when ever it felt like it and freezing like mad when i was trying to access the smallest program. I have found that now a days you dont get what you pay for with Windows especially since Windows 8 was released. Also Laptops such as HP now are just crammed with cheap parts, they dont take pride in their systems like they once used to unlike Apple. I know i will get more than a year or 2 out my mac (hopefully a lot more) but with windows systems it just seems to break all the time costing more money on extending warrantys. Also i like mac because i dont need to send it away if i ever get a problem, i can just take it into the apple shop half a mile down the road and they will fix it in store. Where as with windows i am waiting 2 weeks+ to just hear back from them.

Go to your hard drive, enter library, go into users, and go into launch agents and delete the thing above.  Empty the trash and restart.

  • Is there any benefit updating OS 10.6.8 too Lion and Mountain Lion before Maverick?

is there any benefit updating OS 10.6.8 too Lion and Mountain Lion etc. before updating to Maverick?

No. Before you upgrade check to make sure your applications are compatible. PowerPC applications are no longer supported after 10.6.
    Application Compatibility
Do a backup before you upgrade.
Check that your computer is compatible with Mountain Lion/Mavericks.
To check the model number hold down the option/alt key, go to the Apple menu and select System Information.
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) model number 5,1 or higher
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) model number 3,1 or higher
    Your Mac needs:
OS X v10.6.8 or OS X Lion already installed
2 GB or more of memory (More is better - 4 GB minimum seems to be the consensus)
8 GB or more of available space
You might update your profile - shows 10.5

I have been carrying my printer to my computer for over a year and still theres no fix!!!!!
    $200 paper weight !
I really need someone to help me resetup my wifi printing !
I have tried getting updates for the printer through apple updates and there aren't any ?
    firmware 20120130
I printed a configureation page if you need the info

    Hi,
Please first try rebooting your Mac, then temporarly plug the printer via a USB.
Confirm any prompt to install the printer via Apple's Software Update Server and the printer should be added.
From System Preferences go to Printers & Scanners and double click the CP1025.
Click the Setting option and open the HP Utility, it should be lised within the Utility tab.
Click the Convert to Wireless button and follow the steps on screen to connect the printer to your wireless network.
Please let me know if that helps,

  • HDMI, Mini Display Port and Mountain Lion

    Hello,
After reading about numerous issues concerning the Mini Display Port and Mountain Lion, I'm trying to discuss it here with you all to see if there is any solution.
I have a MacBook Pro (2009), and used it with my TV (HDMI cable + Mini display port adaptor) with Plex media center back when it was on OS X Lion. It was very convenient because as a portable computer, it could easily be set near the TV and allow the use of a remote to sit in the couch and stream media from the Time Capsule… without the help of any expansive box. Perfect setup I've had for over a year.
The thing is, since I've upgraded to Mountain Lion, when I try to connect the MacBook Pro to the TV, the screen turns blue as if it was calculating the resolution of the monitor so… ok. Until it comes back, and nothing changed either on the MacBook Pro screen or on the TV.
Harware side, I've tried with the computer open, closed, I've checked every port and connection on both computer, TV and adaptor.
Software side, what I find really annoying in Mountain Lion is that they completely ditched every monitor setting as long as nothing is connected — and even if the Mini DP is connected… the Mac thinks it's not. I even tried to reset the PRAM. This is a nightmare.
I've tried to do the same with my iMac (mid 2011), and it all worked properly. What I can't explain is why it works on my iMac and not on the MBP… as they have the same configuration !
I don't know if Apple is outcasting old devices so people buy new Apple stuff or if they ditched the HDMI out on certain (old) devices on purpose so users replace it by the new airplay mirroring feature and buy the Apple TV. I won't, because let's say it's a total crap compared to other media center solutions. And I'm bored of Apple.
Please, HELP NEEDED ! Has anyone had the same issue ? I bet you have ! Now how can we solve that ?
    Thank you for your time.

EDIT : stopped working on iMac too… then update 10.8.2 fixed the issue. Now it works. Thanks Apple for temporarily removing some features ! It's just so ANNOYING.
Hope you gonna stay with the few we have left on Mac and stop removing things randomly. Not event talking about the pro environment (designers, developpers, etc.) that is almost gone. 2 years and our macs will be tablets. Careful with the old clients… it's been almost 10 years I'm on a Mac and I've never been so unhappy.

  • Photoshop CS6 and Mountain Lion

I have 2011 Macbook pro with Mtn Lion. Put on PS CS6 and have pixelation and freezing, and I have to force quit.  Also cannot see all my 3rd Party plugins. I contacted Adobe (not easy) and they said problems are all due to plugins and thats all they say.  No trouble shooting...no nothing. (Plugin manufacturer won't help me either). Apple can't help.  I have $3000 computer that is useless.
    1.  Do I sell computer or wait hoping Apple or Adobe will get this together?
    2. Other choice is install WIndows 7 on boot camp and run Paint Shop Pro.  However I doubt any of the old plugins will work on the 64 bit.  What if I install 32 bit WIndows 7? Will old plugins work?
I need help, this is frustrating to no end.

It seems to me that many of the 3rd party plugins are older and I suppose they are 32 bit.
Easiest way to tell is to check your filters list. If you know the filters are installed correctly (in Photoshop's Plug-ins folder) and they don't show up in the list while running PS, they're 32 bit, or possibly even 16 bit depending on how old they are.
So I cannot use either PS program successfully. Is there no fix even for  PS4?
I presume you mean PS CS4 and not literally version 4? Adobe officially supports CS6 and CS5.5 in Mountain Lion. CS4 is Intel native as a Universal app, but I haven't tried it in ML, so don't know how well it works.
Regarding reinstalling Mtn Lion, I could try that but the problem only occurs in Photoshop so do you think that could be the cause?
Hard to say. As an example, I tried installing the CS5, CS5.5 and CS6 Master Collections in Snow Leopard and Mountain Lion. I did this in all combinations, erasing the test drive each time so there were no leftovers from other installs. Each install had all updates installed. In each case, desktop icons were broken such that not all files saved from PS would produce an icon. Two other much larger problems is that saving files would at times either give the error that I didn't have permission to save a file, or it would say .afpdeleted could not be save. In either case, the file being saved would be deleted! You had to do a Save As again immediately before closing the image in PS to save it.
The point of this is that reinstalling the OS after installing the Adobe software fixed all of these issues every single time. So while it may seem illogical, reinstalling the OS might fix the problem.

  • Why is searching so much slower in both Lion and Mountain Lion than Snow Leopard?

Hi, I use Snow Leopard run on several Mac Pros to perform multidimensional time-lapse-imaging in our lab. Snow Leopard provides instantaneous (seconds) searching for folders containing the image sequences I require for analysis (distributed across 4 x 2TB hard drives- images are saved under the structure Time\Position, and for analysis I need to retrieve all folders with the same Position label). Lion and Mountain Lion either fail to search or are painfully slow. For analysis I use internal hard drives connected as external volumes via USB and I suspect this might be part of the problem, however the same setup works flawlessly with Snow Leopard.
This problem is becoming very frustrating as I can’t figure out what has changed, or whether I am overlooking something obvious. I installed Lion on my MacBook Pro over 6 months ago which is when I discovered this problem and had to reinstall Snow Leopard. At that time I had hoped that the next OS might provide a better search function for our use, but after some testing it seems the same. To search through folders manually takes over 10 x as long as using a simple search in Snow Leopard. Can anyone provide me any advice as to what might be causing this problem and whether there might be a solution? I’ve tried a few free searching tools from the app store, but these do not perform any better than searching in Finder. I would obviously prefer to be able to invest in new Macs in the future which run the most current OS without having to install Snow Leopard on them all (if this is even possible without future models without causing compatibility problems).
Many thanks for reading and for any advice you can give me.
    Oli

Since updating OS to Mountain Lion from leopard, I get the following error message when trying to backup with time machine on external drive.  "Could not complete backup to media share.  The network backup disk does not support the required AFP features."  What are AFP features and how do I get Time Machine to backup to my current external backup?

This means that your NAS does not support the required encryption. Update your NAS to the latest firmware or ditch it and buy a Time Capsule (they are the most reliable when using TM).

  • Can I dual boot Snow Leopard and Mountain Lion on one hard drive?

I want to make a new partition and be able to boot to either OS. Is this possible, if so, how? I would think just make a new partition and install the dmg file to that new partition.

@jimmyk11: AppleCare has actually informed me that "No - this MacBooPro9,1 cannot boot Snow Leopard".
It originally came with lion 10.7.4 installed. I have since upgraded to Mountain Lion 10.8 and (today, after a week or so of ML) I reverted to Lion 10.7.4. But now I find I can no longer boot into Lion 10.7.4 from my external FW800 drive (for troubleshooting and housekeeping). So it looks as if the "boot problems" are not confined to Snow Leopard 10.6.8.
Interestingly, I can use this same external drive to boot my iMac (10.7.4) and my older MBP8,3 (10.8) into 10.7.4 - but not the newer MBP9,1.
The MBP9,1 with Lion and Mountain Lion is turning into a disaster when it comes to external booting. If I could, I'd demand a return and a refund. After bottle-feeding Lion for a year, 10.7.4 seems basically stable and can still boot into Snow Leopard and Lion from my external drives if needed. But now I see I have a worse problem: Crippled Hardware. I suspect this bug needs a firmware update - if it is fixable at all.
