Software update in mountain lion offers updates for iPhoto and iMovie that will not install
Updated my iMac 2011 to Mountain Lion. Software Update now operates through the App Store. Third Party apps are OK but Apple's native Mac apps eg iPhoto, iMovie offer updates for installation that do not install.
Get this error eg for iMovie but similar for iPhoto and maybe others:
"We could not complete your update. iMovie is already installed on this computer. Choose Software Update from the Apple menu to check for available updates."
If you do as suggested, it reloads App Store software update and goes round again...
If I go to "Check for updates" in the iMovie menu it tells me it's the current version.
"This version of iMovie (9.0.8) is the current version."
The badge showing the count of apps requrining an update is also wrong.
Hi, just wondering, were any of Apple's Apps moved from there default location?

I have tried installing from the App sotre updates and also the softwarre updates - I receive the same message.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Select
/var/log ▹ install.log
from the hierarchical list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar. Then select the messages from the last installation or update attempt, starting from the time when you initiated it. If you're not sure when that was, start over and note the time. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Edit it out by search-and-replace in a text editor before posting. -
UPDATING OSX MOUNTAIN LION ADOBE VIEWER. recently received e-bill statement. could not view. site recommended updating adobe viewer. as this feature comes OEM from Apple, how is this accomplished? Note, this was an online view for the PDF document.
Thanks for your help. Final question. So I am assuming that PDF funcitonality is accomplished via Preview. I assume then that the PDF creation in Mail is also similarly accomplished, that is not via an Adobe product, but equivalent funcitonality. I see now that I can download Adobe. But, does the Apple PDF equivlant provide updates to keep up witht the new encoding structures released by Adobe, so that I can only update the Apple equivalent, or is this not practical because Apple would be chasing Adobe for software updates?

Updated to Yosemite, no problem. now iPhoto and iMovie won't open. Says I need to update software however, when i try to update indicates my User ID and PW won't work for these two pieces of software. User ID and PW works everywhere else.
I am having the same problem. I even changed my password and updated all of my security information. Now it just gives me an error and retry message, which of course also does not work. Went to support and was going to open a chat (seemed the simpler option) and received a message that my support has expired for this serial number unless I want to pay $29.00. So I chose the option to call later, which was the exact time suck I was trying to avoid. Why wouldn't the new operating system also update the apps that were already part of my old platform?

Update bundle just released for Aperture 3.4.2, Safari 6.0.2, and iPhoto 9.4.2 will not install. Keep getting error "The operation couldn't be completed. (NSURLErrorDomain error -3001.)(102)" Any one else having this issue? Please help.
Hi there!
Yes, same problem too; I've already sent an email to apple support and just received a very vague and unpractical response with "call apple support in your country" as main advice. I've obviously emailed back stating that I need a clearer response and I don not have any intention to spend money calling for support when updates is a free tool. I do also believe this is a probem generated on Apple's end, I just wish they learned to say "sorry, it's us; working on it!"

Different apple id shows for updates on mac for iPhoto and iMovie
Hi, on my Mac there are two updates available for iPhoto and iMovie however the update requires me to use my old apple ID which I no longer use. I have checked iTunes, iCloud and the App store and my current apple ID is used for all of them. I don't understand why my old apple ID keeps showing up, I can't sign out of it because it doesn't give me that option.
I'm really confused, please help me out!!!Those applications have the old Apple ID stored inside them. It can't be changed without deleting them and then redownloading them from the desired Apple ID; in the case of preloaded applications, you may also need to contact Apple. This can be done by going to the Mac App Store main page and clicking on Support under Quick Links.

Available updates for iphoto and imovie on apple store.
My apple informs me that I have available updates for iphoto and imovie, however when I try to update them I receive a message that i can't do this because I do not have the major version. How to proceed?
Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Open Finder and go to the folder where these applications are. Then, move them to Applications folder. Finally, open the App Store and update them to the most recent version. If it doesn't work, see if they are hidden, and if they are hidden, unhide them > http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4928 -

I updated to IOS 7 on my Ipad 2 and now videos will not play, they freeze and skip and will not play. Can anyone help?
Try this - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.) No data/files will be erased. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
How much Available storage space do you have?

I've already paid for iPhoto but i got a new hard drive put in my computer so do i have to pay for iPhoto and iMovie again?
Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Of course not. You already purchased iPhoto and iMovie, so you can reinstall them for free.
If you purchased them from the Mac App Store or you got your Mac after July 2011, open the Mac App Store, log in with your Apple ID, go to Purchases and redownload them. Note that the latest iPhoto and iMovie need OS X Mavericks.
If you purchased them in a DVD, insert the DVD and install them. Then, open > Software Update, and install the latest version.
If you got your Mac before July 2011, use the Applications Install Disc to install iPhoto and iMovie. -
I Just bought iMovie for yosmite and the program will not open.. I will like a fix or a refund.. i am getting tired of these problems...
Welcome to the world of downloaded software. There are no refunds.
Back in the good old days when software was purchased on disk one could sell it (legally).
Please describe your problem. Give us some details to go from. Are you using iMovie 06, or something newer? -
The CD for iPhoto 2, iMovie 3 would not load in my Apple iBook Dual USB.
The CD for iPhoto 2, iMovie 3 would not load in my Apple iBook Dual USB.
It was "NOT AUTHORIZED".
Can anyone tell me what this means?
Thank youTake another look. A (nominal) 10 GB hard drive only has about 9.31 GB to begin with. The OS takes up some room, as do other applications.
Please check out how much space has been used and how much remains available.
