Software update-"incorrect digital signature"

I've used software update many times. Today, when attemting to use software update I get the following error message:
"the digital signature for this package is incorrect. the package may have been tampered with or corrupted since being signed by apple"
how do I correct this situation so software update will work correctly?
thanks,
pete
  Mac OS X (10.4.10)

Since we don't know where the O.P. is located or why the digital signature is incorrect, I suggest taking the added precaution of verifying the SHA-1 Digest for at least the first of the manually downloaded updates if that method of obtaining them is used.

    Which exact one is it?

  • Apple software updater incorrect version check, 12.1.1.4

Apple software updater for iTunes says "new software is available, 12.1.1" but new software download is the same version as installed software, iTunes 12.1.1.4. Has been recurring for over a month.  Reinstalled iTunes with assistance from Apple support on 3/4.

Seems to happen on bootup on Tuesday mornings.  Happened this morning again.  Same details as other weeks. Message "new software is available from apple", "iTunes 12.1.1".  Then download new software only to find it is the exact same version as from last week and week before, "12.1.1.4".  Searched registry with regedit and found it has itunes version "12.1.1.4" as it should have.  Did find multiple instances in registry where itunes installer shows ComponentVersion "12.1.1.4" but ProductVersion "12.1.1".  maybe updater is comparing against productversion and missing that the actual version installed is component 12.1.1.4?  I'm guessing this problem won't go away until 12.1.2 or 12.2.x.

  • Software update incorrect

Icon indicates an update is available.  App Store update icon indicates an update is available.  Software shows as "installed", which it is.
I assume this is an App Store issue that will eventually be fixed.

I assume this is an App Store issue that will eventually be fixed.
Installed refers to the app being installed on your Mac. That's not referring to an update.
Click Updates from the menu top of the App Store window.

If the NSU is wrong, do you have an idea of when it might be fixed to correctly recognise my phone vs its firmware version?
If the NSU is right is the new 2.x firmware version that is being banded around a different language variant? Is there a date when the variant for my phone might be available? It would be interesting to see if it clears up any of the messaging bugs that I am experiencing.

  • Software updates fail

I get the following message after downloading a software update: "The digital signature for this package is incorrect. The package may have been tampered with or corrupted since being signed by Apple." It doesn't matter if I use software update or manually download an update. Any thoughts?

I was getting the exact same thing a few days ago. The problem was 1 of 2 things, because I had 2 things going on at the same time & I'm not sure which fixed it.
I had loaded the full version of Office Mac 2004. Since this was the only program I had loaded on my brand new iMac, Apple suggested I unload it, that maybe it was corrupted. I took it out & put it back in with their "recommended" download instead of the full download and suddenly all of my software updates went through successfully.
Prior to this, Apple also had me run the Disk Utility and Verify Disk, as well as restart and login as a test user in case there was an issue with my login. Neither of those helped me, but maybe you can try that too.
Now, at the same time I was having trouble downloading from the web. Specifically, see my e-mail on trying to download Firefox. Since I have my work PC hooked up directly to my cable modem, this one accesses the internet via a wireless router. When I hooked my iMac up to the cable modem, Firefox finally downloaded successfully. Looks like my wireless router was causing interruptions in the download process that I was not aware of.
I'm new to this, and I don't know if any of that helps, but good luck!

  • Mac OS 10.5.8 update combined can't be saved, Apple digital signature incorrect.

    Hi,
I have tried, several times, to update OS 10.5.1 to 10.5.8 using Apple's online software updater. It takes 20 minutes to download the 768 mb package but then
refuses to save with the following message. 2.16 GHz + 2 GB ram.
Mac OS X can't be saved. The digital signature for this package is incorrect. The package may have been tampered with or corrupted since being signed by Apple.
I need to update to 10.5.8 so I can then install 10.6 etc.
I have tried to install 10.6 without updating to 10.8 but it shows the message: Mac OS X can't install on this computer. I assume this is because I have not, and
    cannot, updated to 10.5.8.
    Any help would be appreciated.
Apple want me to pay $20 to advise them that their software package has an incorrect digital signature, even though it has only just been downloaded from their servers. No email address to advise Apple of problem.

Hello, it's generally one of two thinks that cause this, but it is a bad download.
Try Ethernet instead of Airport if possible.
    Disk can be corrupted...
Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
Try getting it direct instead of SWUPDate...
    Repair Permissions afterwords, reboot.

  • No digital signature

I can't download iTunes as at the very end of the Download, it reports the software has no digital signature, even though it has come from the official website. Also, Internet Explorer and iTunes malfunction each time I try to access iTunes store in the old version. Currently I have no iTunes and £300 of i-Touch, very fed up. Please help!!
P.S. have tried download with antivirus software off- no help, same error occurs when I try to dwonload 64 bit version.

How are you connected to the internet? I have a wireless router, but I can plug my laptop directly into the cable modem, for example.
You could also try downloading from a friend's house with a different ISP, esp if you're using one of those USB dongle things for internet connection.

  • Software Update - digital signature incorrect

I have several update packages that were consistently reporting the error:
*The update "xxxxxxx" can't be saved.*
The digital signature for this package is incorrect.
    The updates are:
    iLife Support 9.0.3
    Java for Mac OS X 10.5 Update 4 1.0
    Safari 4.0
Several other updates (eg. recent iTunes and QuickTime) downloaded and installed OK.
I tried all of the following to no avail:
    Repair disk permissions
    Reinstall 10.5.7 combo package manually
Delete Software Update preferences & cache files
    Multiple restarts
Finally I tried running Software Update under a fresh admin account and they downloaded OK. (Different issue that the Java Update later said it couldn't install).
So seemingly this is related to something in my usual admin account. Does anybody know what other preference files I should look to delete, or any other hidden setting that is affecting the digital signature checking?

I tried all of the following to no avail:
    Repair disk permissions
    Guess Carolyn didn't notice this.
This was happening fairly frequently about a month ago when 10.5.7 came out. The Apple servers were overloaded apparently and some incomplete downloads occurred so some type of checksum prevented running the update. Waiting and downloading later seemed to be the best solution.

Perhaps by the time you did all the troubleshooting steps, if you tried it from the original admin account it would have downloaded correctly.

  • Digital signature in Software Update

I have been trying to Update my Tiger version 10.4 to 10.4.3 using Software Update. After the files download, I get a comment that says the digital signatures are not correct the files cannot be installed. What does this mean?

"The digital signature for this package is incorrect. The package may have been tampered with or corrupted since being signed by Apple"
My iMac Flat Panel updated the most recent upgrade just fine, but my iMac Classic showed the above error message.
I tried several times over two days but no go ... finally I downloaded the OS X 10.4.4 file on Apple's Support site http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosxupdate1044.html ... it installed just fine. Then I went to Software Update and this time QuickTime, iPhoto and iPod updates installed without error.

  • Mac G3 w/ Tiger 10.4.3 update problem/issue "digital signature incorrect"

I have an old G3 on which I reloaded 10.4.3 yesterday (Retail copy). It did not go very smoothly. This is the 3rd install; 1st install was several months ago with this chip, 2nd install was shortly after that with a PowerLogix chip which didn't work. I put the old chip/processor back in yesterday and reinstalled again. I don't remember if I messed with the firmware or not with the previous installs.
    PowerMacG3, Model 1.1, PowerPC750, 256meg, BootRom 1.1.1f4
The software updater tells me I need to update to 10.4.8. When I proceed with this, the system downloads the software OK, but when it attempts to install the update I get the following error:
The update "Mac OS X Update Combined (PowerPC) can't be installed.
The digital signature for this package is incorrect.
The package may have been tampered with or corrupted since being signed by "Apple".
Any ideas as to how I resolve this? Could the problem be with the OS registration, and the different chips?
    Thanks in advance.

Thank you for replying to my post.
Yes, I can do a nozzle check with the USB unplugged,
and I still get poor results on the C82 and nothing
on the C86. I just can't believe both printers are
broken. The C86 is new, and they were both working
    fine previously.
Epsons are notorious for getting their print heads clogged. Run the clean print head routine a few times. If that doesn't work, return the new printer 'cause it's dead out of the box. The old printer, well, once Epson print heads get to a certain level of clogging, nothing will unclog them. Toss the printer and get a new one. Hint: HP and (some) Canon printers put the print heads in the ink cartridges, while Epson and (some) Canons have the print heads in the printers. Machines which have the heads in the carts also have an easy fix for severe clogs: toss the cart. Warning: HP printer drivers stink.
If you don't need colour, you might think seriously about getting a low-end laser.
I just got the C82 to print readably, but still
completely missing magenta and with minimal
fuzziness. This was just dumb luck though, from
letting the printer sit idle for several hours.
It's still clogged. Clean the heads a few times again, or just toss it.
And yes, I've tried setups through the Print & Fax
pref pane, which usually works better than going
through the Printer Setup Utility which tends to
    freeze and crash.
I wish I could afford to just buy another printer.
But I'm still worried it's something to do with my
computer, since both printers are having problems
simultaneously, and they're both really good
    all-purpose printers.
It's not your machine. It's Epson.

I had forgotten about this. I got absolutely no help from Apple (electronically or at Apple bar) where I bought it. Its sits in the basement and the kids play on it. • I am getting error :digital signature for this package is incorrect--

I have completed a clean install and have installed OS 9.2 as well as OS 10.3

Now when I attempt to install the software updates for my computer, I get error that the digital signature of this package is incorrect and may have been corrupted since signed by apple. Harold

    Hi, Harold and baltwo —
    (1) Harold, I agree with baltwo's advice to try using "stand-alone" downloads as a short-term "work-around."  But I realize this may be unsatisfying — if the error becomes chronic.
    (2) baltwo's advice to search Apple's KnowledgeBase is normally a very useful resource — but in this instance, only provides links to a few articles about the topic as it relates to OS 9, Mail.app, and OS X Server. If you'd like to read background info about the current usage of digital signatures, you'll find info that's a bit more relevant from:
        •  Help »» Mac Help »» "What is a digital identity" and "certificate"
        •  an ADC search (using, e.g., [ exact phrase: "digital signature" and all the words:
           "OS X" ] as terms)
        •  a Google•Mac search.
However, in terms of resolving your situation, I'm inclined to think that most of the search results will be academic. If you search through these discussions to see others' Software Update problems and solutions, you'll find this error message is relatively common — and seems to represent a number of conditions (based on the differing solutions).
    (3) I haven't noticed a cogent solution that spans these problems. But the troubleshooting process outlined in KnowledgeBase Articles 106695: Troubleshooting Automatic Software Update in Mac OS X and 106692: Troubleshooting installation and software updates may be helpful. As the latter suggests, you may want to try logging-in to a temporary "test" administrator account as a means to determine whether your account's keychain is implicated specifically. (...or another user-specific issue.)
Please post back to discuss your progress.
    Good luck!

  • Software update Digital signiture problem

I just purchased a brand new powermac G5 Quad 2.5ghz. after initial setup software update ran, and after it checked and found updates I recieved this error message:
"The digital signature for this package is incorrect. The package may have been tampered with or corrupted since being signed by “Apple”."
I have never seen this before, and cannot seem to fix it. I have searched these forums and tried deleting all the softwareupdate.plist files and restarting. Does anyone have a solution for this? I have a 15inch powerbook and I've never had an error doing a software update.
    Thanks for the help.
    -Jason

The mechanism of Software Update forms from the registration procedures upon entering license section and admin authentication received securely to install Mac OS X 10.4 or 10.4.x. Some identifiable information such as computer ID, the unique MAC address, a node information and the registered information are transmitted to an Apple server with the digital signature.
I believe this server differs from the dot mac server with the reception system that includes time zone. Presumably, grabbed your information from the dot mac for the registration results in a logic-assertion failure (perhaps unrecoverable) with the error message-- lost or corrupted the consistency of the client information as well as the packages stored in the directory. Software Update routines may no longer be able to handshake with the server. Because, Software Update server audits localizations used the license, validating some XML document, parsing a distribution script for each scheduled software to be updated.
The fundamental is a rock-solid Mac OS X Tiger multi-layed security architecture.
I cannot say for sure if the following troubleshooting can fix the problem. If you like, try removing the folder and files onto the desktop's temporary folders. Restart the computer to test the recurrence.
    /Library/Caches/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate/
    /Users/HOME/Library/Caches/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate/
    /Users/HOME/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.xxxxxxxxxxxx.pl ist
    /Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist
    /Users/HOME/Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist
You may want to test if this BSD command works with Terminal.
    softwareupdate -l
    or
    softwareupdate --list
If suggestions do not work, I would do everything from scratch. Note that some invisible filesystem on the HFS Plus File System can be erased with a zeroing option.
