Software Update install hangs in 10.9.1

Hi,
Unfortunately, after running software update, the 10.9.1 install is stuck, showing "less than a minute" for more than one hour...
Has anyone else had this problem?
Any suggestions of what to do next? I don't want to power it off during update install...

I am of the opinion that Mavericks simply cannot be updgraded from Lion 10.7.5. I have tried everything related to this issue in every post I could find - to no avail. Really poor form from Apple. Are they seeing the frustration in these posts from their loyal customers and just choosing to ignore them? They must have a short memory. This is why Microsoft was deemed uncool and why everyone left them for Apple. Now that Apple is top of the pops, it seems they're doing the same thing.
To Apple - would it not be a good service to your many customers who are really battling with this issue to simply issue a patch to fix this? Think of what may happen if you continue to ignore us; we can't upgrade to Mavericks, all our software eventually becomes unstable and unusable and we are forced to choose another operating system. By then I'm sure Google or some other major player will be keen to takeover your disgruntled customers and offer a nice usable, friendly replacement to Apple Macs. So enjoy your market leading position while you can Apple. Your days at the top may be numbered now.
Of course, if there's some simple fix available from anyone who upgraded from Lion 10.7.5 to Mavericks has managed to achieve - please do post it here for us all to read. But if it doesn't come from Apple, then the above rant sticks.

Last night the mail application from Apple lost all my old emails, which were stored in mailboxes, neatly sorted by category. What happened and how do I find them?
Details: I shut down mail to run errands outside my office. My late model MacBook Pro was on "sleep". When I returned, I opened the application, and (RATS!) all the mailboxes were missing. They just evaporated.
Operating system: 10.7.2 - all software updates installed and current as of 24 hours ago (12-30-11, 6 AM EST).
ln the mail program, the trash folder is OK and the sent folder is OK.
Yesterday, I did no maintenance on my mail folders.
HELP!

That was most likely the result of some kind of corruption, as I've already said, not a bug in Mail. Have you repaired the hard drive with Disk Utility recently? That wouldn't be a bad idea.
2 - at random times, mail (or the server) says that my password is incorrect and I must reenter (fix: usually I can quit mail, restart, and the connection is restored without reentering my password)
This is a known issue, where a failure to respond promptly on the server's end mimics what happens when the password is rejected. There's no need to quit Mail, just cancel when asked to enter the password, take the account back online and try again.
3 - mail seems to resort the mail in my mailboxes at random time. Several times a day, I must reset the sort to (a) by date; (b) by desending
Never seen that before. That points more to some kind of possible corruption in your Mail data or preference files.

Mac mini freezes after software update install in leopard

hello,
ever since i purchased my mac mini 8 months ago, it freezes when installing a software update that requires a restart. it seems to get through the whole process, but then freezes with the default galaxy desktop (even though that is no longer my desktop) with nothing else on the screen. i have even tried doing installs over night, but it is still hanging at the galaxy screen when i wake up in the morning.
unfortunately i did not deal with this when i still had my warranty and would like to avoid purchasing apple care.

I have exactly the same problem. My mac-mini was purchased only a few months ago. I downloaded the most recent update recommended by software update. I don't remember everything that was in the update but it included several files providing support for various digital cameras and iphoto. My mac mini is frozen showing only a white screen.

I am having the same problem. My InDesign CS4 was fine for months, no problems, until I got a software update available message and I downloaded the update and installed it. After the install I restarted the computer. Since then I can not open InDesign CS4 - it crashes on startup. I have no problem with my CS3 opening. My software is CS4 Design Premium. My computer is a MAC G5 running 10.4.11.

The problem did not exist until I installed an Adobe generated
software update. It happened immediately on restart after the Adobe
generated software update. All the fonts are fine. CS3 opens fine.

10.4.6 Software Update Install Error

After downloading the 10.4.6 update using Software update on an iBook G4 (1.42 GHz, 1 GB DDR SDRAM, OS X 10.4.5) and pressing the "Install" button, I recieve this error:
"The update cannot be installed: The digital signature for this package is incorrect. The package may have been tampered with or corrupted since being signed by Apple."
I have attempted to install this update multiple times - first over a wifi connection, later on a wired ethernet connection. The package Software Update is downloading obviously contains the correct signature, as it is the same data downloaded and installed by many other OS X users, without a hitch.
Instead, I think the part of OS X that checks for the digital signature is somehow corrupted or otherwise invalid. Where is this component located? Is it something I can fix myself?
I could be entirely wrong, though. Any information would be much appreciated.

I can not answer these questions, however if i were you I would dump that one download and follow a brodys advice in his Topic:
Now that 10.4.6 is out, let's review the upgrade steps
a brody's to update.
I followed this advice, including restarting twice and i have no issues, at all.

Help!! 10.4.7/ software update/ install problem

I am stuck on 10.4.7.
Software update does not pick up any new software (10.4.8/ iTunes 7.0.1/ Quicktime 7.13 etc).
When I try installing using the standalone installers, the software will not install with various error messages ("this volume does not meet the requirements for this update", "you are not allowed to install this software on this volume for an unknown reason").
Using the "repair disk" feature booting off the cloned drive doesn't do anything.
I cannot boot off the Tiger DVD or the Techtool deluxe CD (a "no entry" sign appears after a while).
Trying to boot off a Tiger DVD image on the cloned firewire drive (using disk utility restore feature) doesn't work either.
I can boot off the cloned drive, but again the software updates dont get installed with the same error messages.
So I cant do an erase and install on the harddrive. All the software runs perfectly but without being able to do an erase and install, the computer will become unusable if things start playing up.
Anyone got any ideas what is going on?

Does 'Install software update' task in configuration manager installs office patches or just OS pacthes? I have Office patches (around 100 ) software update group is advertised\deployed to my build and capture machine. Once machine is build, i don't see
any of the office patches installed. I have added 'install software update' step after Install application and packages step (so that office get installed first).

Assuming that you are talking about within a task sequence. This task installs "all" or "all required" (depending upon which option you pick) software updates that are deployed (and applicable based upon a compliance scan of course) to the target
system -- it doesn't matter what kind of update it is. During OSD, the updates need to be deployed to the same collection that the task sequence is.

Software update install problem

Hello, I read about the EFI update problems and did my research on other updates as well, however I didn't find answer to my problem. After Software update checked for new updates (and there was about ten of them, because I did't do any updates for the past moth), I downloaded them and when I chose instal, the program quit uexpectedly. I tried this several times, but got the same message every time. i would be very glad if you could help me ay way. Thaks in advance.

If you're getting an error 1720 when trying to install Nokia Software Updater, there is a workaround.
The error is only in Nokia's combined installer, not the NSU installer itself.
1. Download and install 7-Zip. Don't worry it's free!
(No, neither WinRAR nor WinZip will do for this)
Get it here: http://www.7-zip.org/download.html
2. Use 7-Zip to extract the contents of NokiaSoftwareUpdaterSetup_en.exe into a folder. You should now have a bunch of folders and a few files.
3. Go into Packages, then NokiaSoftwareUpdater, then Setup
4. Launch NokiaSoftwareUpdater.msi (double-click it).
5. That's it!
I think the problem must be a script Nokia have used in their combined installer, which in itself is unnecessary as NokiaSoftwareUpdater.msi will start the installers for the other apps and drivers anyway. Those crazy Fins!
Whatever, this worked for me so hopefully it'll work for you too! :-)

Unfortunately this workaround doesn't work with the updated NSU (version 01.04.053.34607) that came out on July 31st (2008).
Whatever Nokia have done, it now means that even after extracting the installer from the package, you will still get Error 1720.
Nokia, why are you breaking your software for us?! Please simplify the installations so we can keep our devices' firmware up to date. Otherwise what's the point of your programmers constantly coding updates?

Security Update 2008-002 failed Software update install, now absent in SU

So, I used Software Update to download and install Security Update 2008-002, but at after downloaded and going through install process, it never completed. I think it never even reached the optimizing part. So, I forced quit Software update. Backed up everything before restarting. No issues restarting at all, but when I rerun software update, Security Update 2008-002 does not show up. Also, it does not appear in the receipts folder either. You can still manually download it however. I wonder if Apple was pulling it this morning? I can't figure out, since I see no evidence of it being installed, why it doens't show back up.

Yep, looked for that too. Nothing. I have noticed, in trying to download manually, that I get an "internal error" from Apple downloads a few times before actually getting it to download.
When I origianlly tried to use software update, it never made it past installing to optimizing. Normally, after optimizing, you have to restart for the updated software to take effect. Since it stalled out and just hung, I force quited Software Update. I wonder if they is why no reciept package shows, or, did it just really not install. Odd thing is, I know shockwave permissions differed after I restarted. So,either it's me, or Apple pulled it or is having issues.
I have never had a software update stall out before. ever.
Also, does not show up in Software update as installed either, but doesn't show up as available.

HELP! Problems with MacBook after software updates install.

Hi Guys,
I have a friend of mine that has a MacBook. After a while without doing the software updates she connected her MacBook on the internet and there was a lot of software updates to do, so she went on and install everything. She describes me that the problem was with Tiger 10.4.11, it pop up a "Warning Sign - Error" and freezes she says.
She re-start the computer and It get stuck on the gray window with the Apple with the lil circle spinning endless.
Is there any tip or something that I can help her?...

If all of your Windows did that, this means Windows is somehow corrupted. This happens all the time. My PC will have regular wipe out routine in every six months +/-. Format and do clean installation of Windows again. Or at least try to do "run = c:\sfc /scannow" and put your original CD/DVD Windows installation in.Message Edited by delixis on 20-Nov-200703:12 AM

Software Updates Installed before deadline at begining of MW

I'm confused on this.
For years we've set up deployments with deadlines, say 8PM.
The deployment option to ignore MW is not enabled. So the updates should only install at the deadline.
We have MW that have lined up with the deadlines, 7:50PM to 10PM.
This has worked flawlessly for us for years, or so we thought.
Now, we've introduced new business sensitive servers to the patch windows.
What someone noticed is that the updates are actually starting to install at the beginning of the MW, 7:50PM, and not at the deadline for the deployment, 8PM.
I never noticed this. No one ever mentioned it before, but this was noticed that the updates were installing and rebooting, albeit, minutes before the deadline was to begin on the new servers.
Review of the logs surely shows that the updates are beginning to install at the start of the MW, not the deadline.
I know I can change the MW to begin at 8PM, but why is this happening?
We only ever have 1 deployment. We just update it with new updates every month.
I am wondering if the Software Updates Client Agent Update Installation tab has something to do with this.
I don't understand the setting "Enforce all mandatory deployments"
We have this configured for 1 day. Not even sure why I have this enabled.
I've read the help on it but do not understand.
Is this causing the updates to begin installing at the beginning of the MW, before the deadline of the deployment?

What's your evidence for the above behavior as it is not expected nor by design behavior? Also, dates and days are important here as deadline are not just specific to a time but also a date and MWs are specific to days (assuming a recurrence pattern).
Are you modifying the deadline every month also or is it in the past?
The Enforce all mandatory deployments settings effectively combines all update deployments that have deadlines within the given time frame so that they are installed together limiting the impact on the system and/or end-user to a single series of update
installations and a single reboot.

I have just downloaded the latest software updates for my Macbook (currently in Cusco Peru and took ages as the connection speed is so slow) anyways, when I go to hit install, it sits on the "configuring installation" pages for ever with no progress on the progress bar. Left it overnight and still not luck.

Freezes during software update install

Tried to install updates from prompt, clicked on re-start when asked, installing software update screen came up but is stuck at 2 min. remaining for the last hour. Any ideas? Thanks! (imac late 2012/Mountain lion OS 10.something....)

I don't think it's running the update at this point so you really don't have any choice but powering down. And if it was a system update the odds are pretty high it isn't going to boot but you won't know until you try.
You should never do a system upgrade without haveing a backup of your system to revert to if something goes wrong. If you don't have a backup to revert to you may have to reinstall the system and run the 10.6.8 combo updater to get back to 10.6.8.
