Software update items do not display
Hello. I have a PowerBook G4 (10.5.8) that is still in service. When Software Update runs, it shows the notification that "New software is available for your computer," but there are no items in the display window. I have tried restarting, logging in/out, etc. thanks.
Hi. You might want to do a repair permissions, and if that doesn't work, try rebooting from the installation disk and do a repair disk and repair permission from that on your drive. You might end up having to do an "archive" re-installation of Leopard if the above doesn't help.
I have had a similar problem when there was a hardware malfunction but usually it's a software problem. Have you installed any new software lately? There also might be a software conflict going on. In which case try uninstalling whatever you've installed. Search your preferences in Library and make sure all preferences regarding that particular software have been removed. Restart and try to update again.

This is the iPhone for the Enterprise forum... there is nothing about the issue that appears to apply to using an iPhone in an Enterprise (corporate) environment.

dont go the table again and again . the table is updated at intial stage only for stock update but not when SAP is running.
In day to day bussiness the flow is as follows:
Production - MB31 - to Unres stock
Sales - VL02n - PGI - to customer - i.e out of unres stock
Every day u can run TC J1i5 once in a day as decided and update the register so all transactions which have happend in that day gets updated i.e both input and output.
and this will happen every day.
hence dont use table as it is only for intial data upload i.e just before golive.

I have now discovered that i cannot update or restore any of my devicesWere those items purchased or downloaded under a different apple ID than what you are logged into on the phone?

App store, Safari, software updates, icloud, do not work in Mavericks 10.9. these problems are interrelated I am sure. Apple apps were working fine in 10.8.5 I could do software updates through a proxy server using password authentication. I reinstalled a new system 10.9 on another partition and it won't let me use Safari or update software using a proxy server. Firefox works fine (I am using it to post). I am very disappointed that this wasn not fully tested BEFORE releasing Mavericks. Any solutions would be greatly appreciated.
I had this problem myself.
Checked the system log with Console, and I found the entry:-
Nov 11 11:16:41 teds-new-mac.ad.mycompany.co.uk ocspd[537]: Authentication challenge received for "10.203.39.212:8080", unable to obtain proxy server credential from System keychain.
For some unknown reason, Mavericks seems to be looking in the System keychain, when these credentials are actually held in the Login keychain.
So, I tried "Copy & Paste" - copying the https user name & password from the Login keychain and pasting into the System keychain, which worked but it's not quite as straightforward as I initially thought.
Pasting into the System Keychain was, I found a not-very-intuitive process:
Having opened your Login Keychain, click once on the item to be copied and when it's highlighted, select "Copy" from the Edit menu or, of course, cmd+c.
Select the System Keychain:- DO NOT CLICK THE PADLOCK IN THE TOP LEFT TO UNLOCK IT.
From the Edit menu, select "Paste" or cmd+v.
You will then get a dialogue box,, enter your administrator's password and select "Modify Keychain" or just hit return, as it's the default entry.
I found a restart was in order before it recognised everything and would accept https pages without alert boxes, but YMMV.
Funnily enough - and this is where it seems counter-intuitive, if you do click on the padlock and unlock the System Keychain, "Paste" is greyed out in the Edit menu and cmd+v has no effect.
Exactly the opposite to what I'd expect.. -

The easiest way to fix the hosts file is to restore it from a backup that predates the modification, or to copy the unmodified file from another Mac. If you can't do that, then do as below.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
open -e /etc/hosts
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Paste into a Terminal window by pressing command-V. A TextEdit window should open. At the top of the window, you should see this:
# Host Database
# localhost is used to configure the loopback interface
# when the system is booting. Do not change this entry.
127.0.0.1 localhost
255.255.255.255 broadcasthost
::1 localhost
Below that, you may see some other lines. The first 9 lines should be exactly as above, apart from differences in the blank space within lines. Otherwise you can't use this procedure—STOP and ask for guidance.
If the contents of the TextEdit window are as described, close it, then enter the following command in the Terminal window in the same way as before (by copy and paste):
sudo sed -i~ '10,$d' /etc/hosts
You may be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. Type carefully and then press return. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. Confirm. Quit Terminal.
If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator. Log in as one and start over.
That will fix the hosts file. There is now a copy of the old hosts file with the name "hosts~" in the same folder as "hosts". You can delete the copy if you wish. Don't delete the file named "hosts". -
Apple software update and safari not working
Apple software update says "could not connect verify a connection with the app store". Safari wont even display google. Both apps open up initially.

First, which table are you referring to. If your fist APP run clears the line item, it will no longer be available in the open item.

I am trying to update to iTunes 10 to us my new iPad, but I can not remove a corrupted? "apple software update" program... I can get everything else off, but due to "previous version" of software update it will not continue.
I stopped in to see one of the genius at the local store who referred me to "Windows Installer 4.5 Redistributable" (I am trying to install it on a Windows XP System)
The last version on iTunes on my PC was iTunes 7.

Julia from WoodridgeUnfortunately, this sort of trouble has gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25. First we have to find a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any Apple Software Update entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try installing iTunes again. Does the install go through properly now?
(If you do find a clean download site for the correct version of CleanUp, please don't tell me where it is. Without wishing to sound paranoid (although I grant it does sound paranoid), there is a non-zero chance that posting links to download locations for the utility here at Discussions leads to that download location being shut down.) -
My ipod needs to be restore and I get a error message saying :ipod software update server coud not be contacted.
Reset the device:
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
If that doesn't help, tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings
Then tap Settings > General > Software Update
No data is lost due to a reset. -
Hi could anyone help me out? my iphone 3gs keeps restarting itself every two minutes which i think is some kind of software issue,now there are a number of things i have done starting with putting in a new battery.when i charge the phone it resets itself every two minutes or so and the battery indicator stays at 4% so i decided to restore the phone on itunes (which is the latest edition) and when i connect my phone which i have put into recovery mode using the buttons, i get an error message saying :- the iphone software update server could not be contacted.a duplicate file name was specified. i have tried re-installing i tunes and that doesn't solve the issue and i have trawled through the program files to see if i could spot the duplicate but without success ,has anyone had the same issue and resolved it?
An iPhone 3G cannot be updated beyond iOS 4.2.1...that's the end of the line for your phone.

When I was updating my child's ipod touch with itunes....it put the ipod in recovery mode and said I would need to restore and then update....which was my only option to choose, so when I chose restore & update....after going thru it seemed the process, then a window came up that stated the ipod couldn't be restored at this time because the ipod software update server could not be contacted or is temporarily unavailable and to try again. After trying this several times unsuccessfuly and going thru the steps on the help section, the ipod is still not able to restore & update, thus we can't access anything on our very new ipod touch and I am very frustrated, can't afford any Apple support tech time. Ok so I reset my ipod touch 4th gen and it got stuck on the apple logo screen and holding down the buttons just made it turn off for a few seconds and go straight back onto the logo screen, nothing was happening with it connecting to itunes either. But I held the home and the power button down at the same time while connected to my laptop and then when the logo reappeard I released the power button and it came up with with the itunes logo and the usb logo. It then allowed me to select restore on itunes which I did but a box popped up saying "The ipod software update server could not be contacted. make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, or try again later." Please help.

I got a new ipod touch for Christmas.
Today I was going to put music on it, i was told there was updates.
So I went ahead to do them.
My Ipod is stuck on the screen with the usb cord pointing to the itunes logo.
In Itunes i'm told :
Itunes has dected an ipod in recovery mode. You must restore this ipod before it can be used with itunes.
Turning the ipod off - the same screen appears when it's back on.
When I click restore ipod and after restore and update is clicked ; Extracting software loads up at the top.
When its done this is the message I get:

I've been looking up trying to figure it out myself and have read making sure a setting in Lan Settings in Internet Properties has ; Automatically detect settings checked. I still get the same ipod message.
I've tried holding the power and home key to turn it off, then powering it back on. But that doesn't work.
I installed itunes today, so its up to date - I checked.
I don't know what else to do.

Try rebooting your router and or cable modem. Unplug it/them for about 30 seconds and then plug back in. See if it works then. Reboot your iPad as well.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
