Software update just doesn't work either way!what should i do?

hi everyone!i go to system preferences-then software update-then i push the button check now and while it's checking for updates, suddenly it stops and a message says that "the application system preferences stopped unexpectedly". i also try to update from the "software update" shortcut, but i get the same message. At the end i tried to update fron the apple site, the update downloaded, but when i tried to install it, it can't find a volume to install at my mac os.could someone help me please?I m using mac a while ago and maybe i m just doing something wrong.

Boot with your install disk, select your language, and, when the menu bar pops up, select Utilities->Disk Utility->repair the disk and permissions. Report back with any error messages. Once Disk Utility finishes, quit it, and select Utilities->Startup Disk->click on Restart.

I went on vacation a few days ago and in El Salvador, they have this mobile broadband sticks. Well, I was using one until it gave me a network error. After that, it shut down my computer entirely. The first time it happened, I didn't think much of it. I took the battery out and put it back in for it could work. It happened another two times, and after the third time, my MacBook stays stuck at the loading screen, and it will take 5-10 minutes on that screen, before it shuts down, or it wouldn't turn on at all. I've tried booting into safe mode, but it appears to not boot into it. I've tried resetting the Pram, and using disk utility, but that still won't work. I don't know what else to do to make it boot into OS X Lion.
I'm an AP student, and the majority of my work is in that computer, and it is very important! What can I do? Not only that, but I enter school in a few weeks and I need the AP work by the time I enter.
What can I do? Can someone help?

Reinstalling Lion Without the Installer
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alterhatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You can also re-download the Lion installer by opening the App Store application. Hold down the OPTION key and click on the Purchases icon in the toolbar. You should now see an active Install button to the right of your Lion purchase entry. There are situations in which this will not work. Facetime doesn't work the way it should...

Unfortunately, since I arrived back home in Germany Facetime stopped working they way it has been before.
I was visiting my Boyfriend on the other side of the world and for us, Facetime is one of the most important things.
My Wifi at home is still the same and his situation didn't change either.
When I call, I can hear the ringtone Facetime makes, when he is picking up. I can also hear some background noises and with a little luck I can also hear him saying something. But after 5 seconds (the latest) everything breaks down kind of. I can't hear anything at all anymore. Just from time to time there are backgroundnoises but after a short time they disappear again.
Both of us have an Iphone 5 and both of us have IOS 8 installed.
It would be nice to know why it stopped working in the first place. If nothing happens we will have to switch to skype, which would be sad, because the connection with facetime has always been really good - just like a real call.

The first step would be to try and FaceTime someone else to see if you have the same issue. If so, try to reset your iPhone by holding down the home and lock buttons until you see the Apple Logo. If you are able to use FaceTime with someone else then it could be on your boyfriend's end. Possibly have him reset his iPhone as well.
If none of that works, consider finding a boyfriend that you are able to FaceTime with.

I brought a new ipad 2 4th generation and have tried to download music from icloud to it but it appears to download and then is not on the ipad. I have also tried to manually add music from iTunes but that doesn't work either? What is going wrong?

You are not using iTunes Match are you? If you are, you have to turn it off on the device before you sync with iTunes but I'm not sure how that impacts manually managing music in iTunes. I would also assume that if you use Match, the songs would download from the cloud by using Match on the device.

This is sort of a long shot, but it's easy to try and won't hurt anything. Close all the apps on the iPad in the recents tray and reboot the iPad, then try again. I saw this work for someone else a while back that couldn't download or sync music, but I think it was probably just a coincidence, but as I said, it will not hurt to try.
Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the recents tray will appear with all of your recent apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

When I try to connect to wireless internet, I get Error-105, "Unable to resolve the server's DNS address". I've tried everything from resetting including a full software update and nothing has fixed it. What should I do?

I've tried resetting the router, resetting my airport on my laptop, unplugging the router, restarting my computer, updating all my software (including from snow leopard to mountain lion) replacing the dns ip address, and restarting the browsers. It won't let me use wi-fi on any of the browsers (chrome, firefox, safari), but will allow me to use internet through the ethernet cable.
This happened earlier today when for my job I tried to clear some expired certificates and I removed the expired ones that were on my firefox (I now use chrome) and the internet crashed soon afterwards. While I was deleting the certificates, I also got the "blue screen of death" sort of thing that popped up and shut my computer down.
I have no idea what to do and my laptop is no longer under warranty. Can anybody help me?

Write down the server addresses.
Click Cancel to close the Advanced sheet. Unlock the preference pane, if necessary, by clicking the lock icon in the lower left corner and entering your password. Open the DNS tab again and change the server addresses to the following:

8.8.4.4
That's Google DNS. Click OK, then Apply.
In Safari, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data
and confirm. If you’re using another browser, empty the cache. Test. Any difference?
Notes:
1. If you lose Internet access after making the above change to your network settings, delete the Google servers in the Network preference pane, then select the TCP/IP tab and click Renew DHCP Lease. That should restore the original DNS settings; otherwise restore them yourself.
2. I’m not advocating Google or anything else as a DNS provider; the server addresses are offerred merely for testing purposes. There may be privacy and technical issues involved in using that service, which you should investigate personally before you decide whether to keep the settings. Other public DNS services exist.

Photowonder doesn't work on IOS8 what should I do?

From the time that I have IOS8 on my iPhone 5s I can't go to app called 'photowonder'. When I open the app I can see it for like 2 seconds and then the screen is black and it goes out to the home page. When I had ios7 everything was alright with this app. Please help me with this problem. Thank You

Try a reset: Simultaneously hold down the Home and On buttons until the device shuts down. Ignore the off slider if it appears. Once shut down is complete, if it doesn't restart on it own, turn the device back on using the On button. In some cases it also helps to double click the Home button and close all apps BEFORE doing the reset.
Delete and re-install the app
Contact the app vendor (App store does not indicate it has been update for iOS 8 yet.

My external HD stopped showing up on my desktop, but shows up in my Disk Utility.. I have tried a disk verify and repair - sometimes that works and completes, sometimes it doesn't. Either way, it wont eject or mount, and still doesn't show up on desktop.

There are no ticking noises coming from the hard drive, and it lights up still, and i have tried replacing the cords, and restarting/shutting down the computer, and have tried it on a mac desktop also - same problem.
Any help would be great!!!

Try this on one of the Macs ...
Open a Finder window. From the menu bar click Finder > Preferrences
Select the General tab then select: Show External Disks
