Software update keeps asking me to update to Safari 5.0.3. even after I do!

I have installed and restarted as the update window tells me to but the message keeps popping up EVERY day! I've done it over 6 times already... why does it keep coming up? How can I stop it?

HI,
Which Mac OS X do you have installed?

  • At launch Firefox updater keeps asking permission to update, how do I permanently stop that?

In the past when I've updated Firefox it has made my add-ons stop working, however I've never had any virus problem as I have other programs to handle that. So for me, updating Firefox is more of an inconvenience than a benefit (not to mention changes in layout that I'm used to and stuff like that). I do not want to update, and I've gone into the settings and turned the Update settings to never. Yet, every time I open Firefox I get a popup first from Windows telling me that Firefox updater wants permission to update Firefox. It's annoying, to the point that I'm going to switch over to Chrome if there's no way to solve this, but I'd prefer not to as I've always liked Firefox.
How do I tell Firefox Updater once and for all that I do not want to update and do not want to be asked about it ever again?

Just for the record, the two security updates released in the past few days were due to vulnerabilities exposed at "Pwn2Own", an annual hacking event.
I actually don't understand why you are getting those prompts from Windows. It sounds as though the update was already downloaded and staged before you started Firefox up again. I vaguely recall reading some threads a year or two back about clearing out a downloaded update but the details elude me.
Unrelated: Your More System Details shows you have a an optional user.js settings file. If you did not create this file yourself, it may contain settings added by other software that override your previous session preferences at startup. You may want to investigate. This article describes how to hunt that file down: [[How to fix preferences that won't save]].

MySpace keep asking me to update my Firefox software....it IS updated!!! ....but it keeps saying....pgrade your browser for a better Myspace experience.
We recommend one of the following browsers to provide the best and most reliable experience on Myspace. Some features, like Profile 2.0 and MyspaceIM for Web, may not have full functionality in other browsers.
Please select and install one of the browsers below.

    Please do the following:<br><br>
#In the location bar at the top, type: '''about:config''' and hit Enter.<br><br>
#In the filter at the top, copy/paste the following: '''general.useragent.override''' This will display a blank page.<br><br>
#Right click anywhere in the blank area and choose "'''New'''" and then "'''String'''". In the dialog box which appears, copy/paste '''general.useragent.override '''again and click OK. The dialog box will remain on screen, but you'll see that name appear above where it previously said "''Enter Preference Name''".<br><br>
    #Next, copy/paste the following text in bold type: '''Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1; rv:2.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/4.0.1'''<br><br>

The solution is to delete /Library/Printers/hp/Frameworks/HPSmartX.framework and re-install the HP package once.

  • Running snow leopard 10.6.8,safari 5.1.10-yahoo mail keeps asking me to update my browser but there's no link. Does it think I'm running Mavericks or what;s going on. Have carried out updates

    Running Snow Leopard 10.6.7 & Safari 5.1.10
Problem is with Yahoo mail which keeps asking me to update my Safari browser but everything is up to date as far as I can tell. Have reset Safari & empties cache.
But no change- every time I go to open Yahoo mail it goes to a page with update boxes for Firefox & Safari asking me to upgrade but on hitting Safari upgrade box it just takes me to an Apple page that explains the benefits of the new Safari ( Mavericks maybe ) with no option to upgrade. Can anyone suggest an answer to this annoyance.
    Thanks very much,
    Dino.

Your post is pretty lengthy and I have to admit I didn't read it all. Please try restarting in Safe Mode, if that doesn't work please do both a SMC and PRAM reset. These may take 2-3 attempts.
    SMC RESET
    Shut down the computer.
Unplug the computer's power cord and all peripherals.
Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
    Release the power button.
    Attach the computers power cable.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
    PRAM RESET
    Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.

  • NCF keeps asking to be updated

I have a few machines where the NCF keeps asking to be updated. They
get the little popup at least once a day. Only solution is to check the
box that basically says don't ask me anymore.
I have check the dates on all the modules and they are all up to snuff.
Just wondering if anyone else is having this problem. All machines
are W2K pro SP4 with the same patches installed but different hardware.
    Brad

    Hey Richard,
What exactly would I be checking for? To see if there are files there?
To see what the dates are? The modules listed in NCF are current.

Why does Java keep asking to be updated after installing Yosemite?

It's likely that something installed in your system is looking for Apple's version of Java.

I curently have credit on my itunes account. However when I try to purchase an app, it keeps asking me to update billing info. Why is this when I have credit ?

To purchase from iTunes you are required to fill in an address section under the billing info. You don't have to put in a credit card, just a name and address, so that iTunes can send you receipts later.
I had to do this when I first started buying things from iTunes, you just go to Account>Billing Address> Edit

I have Flashplayer 11.6.6 installed.  Yet the pop-up keeps asking me to update.   How do I tell it the player is already installed?

My operating system is Mac OSX, version 10.6.8.  I use Safari, version 5.1.8.  I realize the latest version of Flash is 11.6.602, but when I typed my question to you, I could only remember 11.6.6.  It was 11.6.602.180 that I had tried to download. and thought I did download and install, until the pop-up said I need the latest version of Flash.  Unless I try again, I can't get the screen shot of the pop-up.  I will try after the holiday to send you that.
    Thanks,

  • HT1689 My account has a credit but iTunes keeps asking me to update account info for billing a credit card

My account has a credit balance but iTunes keeps asking for a update for credit card

If you don't have a balance the option for none should show up. If it does not or it gives you the message that there was billing issue with a previous purchase you will have to satisify the balance with either a credit or debit card attached to a bank account. Certain prepaid cards will not work if not attached to bank account with routing number.

  • Even though updated to 4 successfully Firefox keeps asking me to update to 4. Why?

Even though updated to 4 successfully Firefox keeps asking me to update to 4. Why?

Before going further try to confirm what version of Firefox you do have.
What do you see looking at ''about firefox'' from the help menu ? <br/> I ask because your ''System Details'' are showing Firefox 3.6.17 not the current version Firefox 4.0.1.
If you turn off the option to display the menu toolbar do you see the firefox button in the top left and do you get an option to use [why are tabs on top?|tabs on top], both are features of Firefox 4.
It is not easy to find help articles, or even other posts at the moment there appears to be a problem / [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/forums/contributors/706420#post-35304 glitch] in the search system.

  • Itunes keeps asking me to update

HI, my apple software update keeps prompting me to update to 11.1.3 but I have this version and when I go into iTunes and check for updates it says I have the latest version. When I look in the tab on software update which outlines what is installed iTunes 11.1.3 is there! Any ideas how I can fix this?
    Thanks in advance.

Had same problem - try this.
(the original article URL is http://www.cnet.com/uk/news/tackle-a-hung-app-store-update-in-os-x/).
BTW - I didn't need to do [yet another] permissions fix, just the updates and cache folders cleaning.
    =============
First, force-quit the program (the rest of the system should still be responsive). Then:
Clear the App Store updates folder
When updates are installed by the App Store, the updater packages are placed in the Macintosh HD/Library/Updates folder. If the files downloaded are somehow corrupted, then this may interfere with the App Store's ability to run them. Therefore, as a first step, try clearing the contents of this folder.
    Clear the App Store caches
In addition to the updates folder, the App Store program creates a couple of caching locations to store temporary files in when running its various routines. Problems with these caches may cause the App Store program to hang. You can fix this by opening the Terminal and running the following command to reveal the caches folder that your account uses for various programs:open $TMPDIR../C
In the window that opens, locate any folders that begin with the name "com.apple.appstore" and remove them.
Next perform this same routine, but this time open the Temporary Items folder by running the following version of the same command:
    open $TMPDIR../T
    Perform a permissions fix
Since the software-updating routines in the Mac App Store require access to system resources, ensure the permissions setup for these resources is in an accessible state by running a permissions fix on the boot drive using Disk Utility. This can be done by selecting Macintosh HD in the sidebar of Disk Utility, and then clicking the Repair Permissions button in the program's First Aid tab.
