Software Update not connection in OSX Lion

I am using 2008 macbook, intel core 2 duo, 2.4 Ghz, i recently installed OSX Lion, after installed software update is not connecting with apple server.
now i am only updating via manually

Sorry for the delay in replying - I spoke to Apple support yesterday and they advised a repair disc & permissions, and a fresh install of Mountain Lion through Recovery Disc. That pretty much tied up yesterday, but to no avail. It still doesn't work.
So - back to Console. I went where you suggested and this is the message it threw up:

Any ideas? I notice a reference to My TomTom in there which relates to the GPS SatNav we use. Not sure if that is an issue - some kind of software clash?

  • Software Update not connecting

Ever since upgrading to Lion I have had problems connecting to Software Update from the Menu Bar or System Preferences. The update window flashes, closes and another window pops up saying it can't connect.
When I click Network Diagnostics everything is OK, and I am able to recieve Mail and browse Safari.

This is the pertinent stuff from Console. Thanks for your help.

  • Software Update not working post Mt. Lion install + other issues

Held out as long as I could, but finally purchased & downloaded Mt. Lion, yesterday. Install seemed to be OK., until I started noticing odd behaviors. Software Update, is not working in the manner to which I am familiar; the usual window does not open, instead I'm taken to the App Store, again & again.
I did go to Support Downloads & got the Java & Security updates which downloaded & installed.
Icons of apps are not appearing in Dock; such as Onyx which shows an icon which looks like old Appleworks!
    Is it true that Apple Mail no longer has Save As a Draft, option? Intermintent problems with sending mail;
says it can't connect with outgoing server but when I check, it is connected & communicating with that server.
Repaired Permissions; re-started in Safe mode; then re-started, again. Finally, decided to boot from Ext HD into MAC OS 10.6.8. and here I am.
Really miss the lovely beach scenes for Screen Saver in Mt. Lion; the offerings are so limited, and ugly.
    Thanks for your time,
    Cali

Check Launchpad.  Your apps may appear there.
Onyx may need to be updated to work in ML.

There is no more Software Update I'm sad to say.  AppStore has taken over the updates now.  Look at the top of the AS window & you will see "Updates."
Really miss the lovely beach scenes for Screen Saver in Mt. Lion; the offerings are so limited, and ugly.
All of the OS screensavers & desktop pictures can be found on the net.  Do a Google search for them.
I do not use Apple's Mail, so I cannot comment on it.
Recommend that you do what I did;  purchase OS X Mountain Lion: The Missing Manual - David Pogue .  This book is very easy reading, non technichal & non geeky.  I strongly recommend this book as it takes you step-by-step through Mountain Lion.

  • Software update - not connected to internet

    Hi
I am trying to update apple software using apple update, but keep getting a message saying I am not connected to the internet - which I clearly am as I am on this forum and desperately seeking help. p.s. It happens with Safari as well but not Firefox (the browser I am using to post this). One thing I have noted when setting the proxy passwords and applying them, when I go back into the network setting the password have extended themselves by 3 or 4 characters.

    I will call them tomorrow.
    My ISP is Internet America.
I have been with them since they took over
    Cyberamp back in the 90s.
    I have DSL.
My terminology is limited. The local mail I am speaking
of is the program that came on my Mac when I
installed it. I can only access it when I am on this
particular computer. Otherwise, I call up Internet
Amer. webmail. The mail stays there, until I launch
my "local" mail here at home. This has never happened
before and today it brought about half my email over
and then just quit. Since then, nothing has come over.
I can go to the internet in every other way except when
trying to have my software updates checked. It says I
am not connected to the internet.
As I said, I will call them tomorrow and will post what
    they say.
    Thanks very much.

  • Software Updater- Not connected to the internet

I have recently downgraded from a Cable modem to a wi-fi using Globetroter Connect and the AT&T 3G network. Now when I run Software update - I get a message that I am not connected to the internet - even tho I am running Netscape in the background. (I have tried both running netscape and not runing netscape so that's not the issue) I have browsed through old posts on this topic and can't seem to find help.
    thanks in advance
    Robby

If other OS X internet dependent items do not work of don't work well
now that you've changed some system settings (or should have) in
order to use a new internet provider and other hardware, you may
have to change system settings. A non-Apple browser can use its
own settings and find an internet connection in your Mac. Other
parts of the system may not find the internet directly if a change
was made to your computer's settings or the hardware attached.
In some cases, a Mac owner may find Safari won't work; FireFox
will; and to the same web pages, the results will differ. Or other
internet dependent items such as certain live widgets can't find
the internet if they rely on other system settings not set correctly.
So, this means there much be some location setting, or some
old proxy, or perhaps a firewall setting or other block; maybe
even one part of the Network settings is correct in general
while another is not. Even improper DNS or other numbers
may be a partial reason for something halfway working.
If you get different results or none at all from native Mac OS X
internet dependent applications or utilities, then the settings
or location, or other network, or system pref setting, etc are in
need of review and some changes need to be tried.
Have you tried other user accounts to see if the system's own
reliance on the internet settings in System Preferences Network
and other basics still work (or don't) thereby narrowing the issue?
The kind of problem you've cited has other parallel causes under
different topics online; I have read about, but not experienced them.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Software Update not connecting to Server

I have 10.6.4 Snow Leopard server running on an Xserve, and I have a client computer running off of that work group manager. When I try to go to SoftWare Update for the client computer it says "The Software Update Server (cteXserver.com) is not responding.) I went into terminal and type "softwareupdate -l" and it returned "A server with the specified hostname could not be found"
What could be wrong with my setup?

Your DNS forwarding isn't turned on so the server can't get outside. No resolution for Apples' Software Update server.

  • Software update not working for Mountain Lion?

A chunk of my client's office 's still using Mountain Lion -- last week, I ran software update for about half of them, and installed the latest Safari & Security updates.
This week, I went to run Software Update on the other half of them, and no updates are available -- even though they're running Safari 6.1.3 and don't have the latest Security Update.
But the Mavericks macs still get updates available.
Did Apple stop supporting Mountain Lion and I just didn't get the memo?

  • Mac Book Software Update not working, iTune will not update because of that, iPhone 4 won't connect to iTunes because iTunes is not updated. Mac v.10.5.8, iTunes v.10.5.2, iPhone4 iOS 6

Mac Book Software Update not working (Software Update does not have any new software for your computer at this time), my current MacBook version is 10.5.8.
As a result I can't update iTunes, version 10.5.2  (This software requiers Mac OS X version 10.6.8 or later)
Now when I connect my iPhone 4, version iOS 6 iTunes can't connect to iPhone (The iPhone "XXXXX's iPhone" cannot be used because it requiers iTunes version 10.6.3 or later.)
so in a nutshell can't use iphone 4, because iTune is not updated and will not  update because Mac Book is not up to date and will not update either.
    Please help.

    Un-install according to the developer's un-install instructions.
You do not need to use cleaning programs. They can destroy your computer operation as they may already have done.
    CleanMyMac - Uninstall
    CleanMyMac2 Un-install
After un-installing, run this program to make sure you got all the pieces.
    EasyFind – Spotlight Replacement
    Do a backup.
Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder.  Select Library. Then go to Preferences/com.apple.appstore.plist. Move the .plist to your desktop.
Restart, open the application and test. If it works okay, delete the plist from the desktop.
If the application is the same, return the .plist to where you got it from, overwriting the newer one.

  • Having trouble updating Java Runtime for OSX Lion

Is anyone having problems updating Java Runtime for OSX Lion?

I have the same problem.  It is not possible to launch the "Java Preferences" app.  When I do, I get the error message:

I am *most certainly* connected to the internet, since I'm posting to this forum.

  • Why is the software update not showing up in general settings?

Why does my software update not show up in general settings?

If you have an iPad 1, the max iOS is 5.1.1. For newer iPads, the current iOS is 7.1.1. The Settings>General>Software Update only appears if you have iOS 5.0 or higher currently installed.
You can no longer update to iOS 6.x, or down grade the iOS.

If you are currently running an iOS lower than 5.0, connect the iPad to the computer, open iTunes. Then select the iPad under the Devices heading on the left, click on the Summary tab and then click on Check for Update.
Tip - If connected to your computer, you may need to disable your firewall and antivirus software temporarily.  Then download and install the iOS update. Be sure and backup your iPad before the iOS update. After you update an iPad (except iPad 1) to iOS 7.x, the next update can be installed via wifi (i.e., not connected to your computer).
Tip 2 - If you're updating via wifi, place your iPad close to your router to preclude getting a corrupted download.
How to Upgrade to iOS 7
The iOS 7.0 update requires around 2.5 GB of storage space, so if your iPad is almost full, you may need to clear up some space. You can check your available space in Settings -> General -> Usage.
There are two ways to upgrade to iOS 7: You can use your Wi-Fi connection, or you can connect your iPad to your PC and update through iTunes. We'll go over each method.
    To upgrade using Wi-Fi:
Note: If your iPad's battery is under 50%, you will want to plug it into your charger while performing the update.
    Go into the iPad's Settings.
Locate and tap "General" from the menu on the left.
The second option from the top is "Software Update". Tap this to move into the update settings.
Tap "Download and Install". This will start the upgrade, which will take several minutes and will reboot your iPad during the process. If the Download and Install button is grayed out, trying clearing up some space. The space required by the update is mostly temporary, so you should gain most of it back after iOS 7 is installed.
Once the update is installed, you may have to run through the initial steps of setting up your iPad again. This is to account for new features and settings.
    To upgrade using iTunes:
First, connect your iPad to your PC or Mac using the cable provided when you purchased your device. This will allow iTunes to communicate with your iPad.
You will also need the latest version of iTunes. Don't worry, you will be prompted to download the latest version when you launch iTunes. Once it installs, you may be asked to setup iCloud by logging into your iTunes account. If you have a Mac, you may be prompted on whether or not you want to enable the Find my Mac feature.
Now you are ready to begin the process:
If you upgraded iTunes earlier, go ahead and launch it. (For many, it will launch automatically when you plug in your iPad.)
Once iTunes is launched, it should automatically detect that a new version of the operating system exists and prompt you to upgrade to it. Choose Cancel. Before updating, you will want to manually sync your iPad to make sure everything is up to date.
After canceling the dialog box, iTunes should automatically sync with your iPad.
If iTunes doesn't automatically sync, you can manually do it by selecting your iPad within iTunes, clicking on the File menu and choosing Sync iPad from the list.
After your iPad has been synced to iTunes, select your iPad within iTunes. You can find it on the left side menu under Devices.
From the iPad screen, click on the Update button.
After verifying that you want to update your iPad, the process will begin. It takes a few minutes to update the operating system during which time your iPad may reboot a few times.
After updating, you may be asked a few questions when your device finally boots back up. This is to account for new settings and features.
     Cheers, Tom

  • TS1394 Software Update NOT WORKING (Snow Leopard)

Software Update NOT WORKING (Snow Leopard)
Hi, I am currently using Snow Leopard 10.6 on my iMac. I opened iTunes and was told there was an update available so I clicked the button to download it. This obviously opened up the 'download' screen with blue bar. The blue bar does not move and the message comes up that the download failed. I have tried troubleshooting, but the message I get is that I am not connected to the internet - which I am.
    Please help.

Check your iTunes version, it's reporting v10.6.3 here on 10.6.8 and no updates required.
You should be able to download it from here

  • Software update cant connect to the internet

I connect to the internet via wifi on my MBP and I can have say firefox connecting to the internet, mail checks fine, itunes store works, but Safari and Mac Software Updater wont connect. Any Ideas?
    Ive tried resetting PRAM,
Tried the network diagnostic, but that says its all fine but a rerun of the updater still no connection.
Tried various signal strengths to the modem.
    check/verify permissions and Hard disk.

I have had this error returned for months... Not just during the holidays. Dozens of other users are having/have been having the same issue. SU starts just fine, gets to about 25 meg (in my case) and times out, returns the error you quoted. Smaller files usually (but not always) come thru ok. A common thread with all the posts I have read seems to be DSL. On a different thread, it was suggested the modem can get out of synch with the server due to line or modem issues such as forgetting to put filter in all phone jacks.
Anyway, I'm going to give SU another go... It probably won't work...

  • Update not connecting to server after 1 hr

The update for firefox runs for 1 hr says that it is connecting to the update server but never does I have run this 6x what is the problem?

    See:
    * [[Software Update Failed]]
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/Software_Update (Software Update not working properly)
Remove the files in the updates and updates\0 folder.<br />
You may need to delete active-update.xml and updates.xml as well if present.
    C:\Documents and Settings\&lt;user&gt;\Local Settings\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Mozilla Firefox\updates
    (%USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Mozilla Firefox)
If you have problems with updating then easiest is to download the full version and uninstall the currently installed version and remove the Firefox program folder to do a clean install of the new version.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Firefox Profile Folder] and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.
