Software Update not working post Mt. Lion install + other issues

Held out as long as I could, but finally purchased & downloaded Mt. Lion, yesterday. Install seemed to be OK., until I started noticing odd behaviors. Software Update, is not working in the manner to which I am familiar; the usual window does not open, instead I'm taken to the App Store, again & again.
I did go to Support Downloads & got the Java & Security updates which downloaded & installed.
Icons of apps are not appearing in Dock; such as Onyx which shows an icon which looks like old Appleworks!
Is it true that Apple Mail no longer has Save As a Draft, option? Intermintent problems with sending mail;
says it can't connect with outgoing server but when I check, it is connected & communicating with that server.
Repaired Permissions; re-started in Safe mode; then re-started, again. Finally, decided to boot from Ext HD into MAC OS 10.6.8. and here I am.
Really miss the lovely beach scenes for Screen Saver in Mt. Lion; the offerings are so limited, and ugly.
Thanks for your time,
Cali

Check Launchpad.  Your apps may appear there.
Onyx may need to be updated to work in ML.

There is no more Software Update I'm sad to say.  AppStore has taken over the updates now.  Look at the top of the AS window & you will see "Updates."

All of the OS screensavers & desktop pictures can be found on the net.  Do a Google search for them.
I do not use Apple's Mail, so I cannot comment on it.
Recommend that you do what I did;  purchase OS X Mountain Lion: The Missing Manual - David Pogue .  This book is very easy reading, non technichal & non geeky.  I strongly recommend this book as it takes you step-by-step through Mountain Lion.

  • Software update not working for Mountain Lion?

A chunk of my client's office 's still using Mountain Lion -- last week, I ran software update for about half of them, and installed the latest Safari & Security updates.
This week, I went to run Software Update on the other half of them, and no updates are available -- even though they're running Safari 6.1.3 and don't have the latest Security Update.
But the Mavericks macs still get updates available.
Did Apple stop supporting Mountain Lion and I just didn't get the memo?

    Un-install according to the developer's un-install instructions.
You do not need to use cleaning programs. They can destroy your computer operation as they may already have done.
    CleanMyMac - Uninstall
    CleanMyMac2 Un-install
After un-installing, run this program to make sure you got all the pieces.
    EasyFind – Spotlight Replacement
    Do a backup.
Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder.  Select Library. Then go to Preferences/com.apple.appstore.plist. Move the .plist to your desktop.
Restart, open the application and test. If it works okay, delete the plist from the desktop.
If the application is the same, return the .plist to where you got it from, overwriting the newer one.

  • Mac Book Software Update not working, iTune will not update because of that, iPhone 4 won't connect to iTunes because iTunes is not updated. Mac v.10.5.8, iTunes v.10.5.2, iPhone4 iOS 6

As a result I can't update iTunes, version 10.5.2  (This software requiers Mac OS X version 10.6.8 or later)
Now when I connect my iPhone 4, version iOS 6 iTunes can't connect to iPhone (The iPhone "XXXXX's iPhone" cannot be used because it requiers iTunes version 10.6.3 or later.)
so in a nutshell can't use iphone 4, because iTune is not updated and will not  update because Mac Book is not up to date and will not update either.

Software Update NOT WORKING (Snow Leopard)
Hi, I am currently using Snow Leopard 10.6 on my iMac. I opened iTunes and was told there was an update available so I clicked the button to download it. This obviously opened up the 'download' screen with blue bar. The blue bar does not move and the message comes up that the download failed. I have tried troubleshooting, but the message I get is that I am not connected to the internet - which I am.
    Please help.

Check your iTunes version, it's reporting v10.6.3 here on 10.6.8 and no updates required.
You should be able to download it from here

  • Apple Software Update Not Working

I cannot get Apple Software Update to work on my Windows XP Pro system. It simply says that new software was found but it did not specify which Apple software needs to be updated. I am using iTunes, QuickTime, and Safari. Any help appreciated!

The latest version numbers (at the time I'm making this post) are:
    iTunes 10.6.3.25
    QuickTime 7.7.2
    Safari 5.1.7
If you're behind on any of those, try updating using installers downloaded from the Apple website:

  • Software Update not connection in OSX Lion

I am using 2008 macbook, intel core 2 duo, 2.4 Ghz, i recently installed OSX Lion, after installed software update is not connecting with apple server.
now i am only updating via manually

Sorry for the delay in replying - I spoke to Apple support yesterday and they advised a repair disc & permissions, and a fresh install of Mountain Lion through Recovery Disc. That pretty much tied up yesterday, but to no avail. It still doesn't work.
So - back to Console. I went where you suggested and this is the message it threw up:

Any ideas? I notice a reference to My TomTom in there which relates to the GPS SatNav we use. Not sure if that is an issue - some kind of software clash?

  • Software update not working. "Invalid source"

    Hi.
My girlfriend just got her new Iphone 4s and was trying to sync it to her macbook pro 13" iTunes. The iTunes says that she has to update it in order to work. So she took software update and everything goes well, restarts and starts installing but then something happens. It says invalid source and (ogiltig källkod in swedish) and the update is then turned off. She tried unticking the iTunes box and only update the other programs but the same problem uccurs.
I said that she should take this as a sign to finally update to Lion, from Snowleopard, but the problem remains.
She even tried to download the dmg. file directly from apple and when opening the dmg. it says the same thing, invalid source.
She cannot update her macbook now and not sync her new phone. What is the problem, and what can be done? Any ideas? Or are anyone else having the same issues?
All the Best and hoping for some replies.
    /Gustav

Seemed to fix itself by trying and trying again. Maybe some issues with Apple's server making the files currupt?

  • Software Update not working due to a "networking error"

Hopefully this post is in the correct forum. In trying to run Software Update, I am getting a networking error ("A networking error has occured: time out (-1001). Make sure you can connect to the Internet, then try again."). I can get on the network just fine via Firefox, and my Mobile Me account is syncing to my Address Book and iCal. However, Safari, Mail, and Software Update can't seem to connect. I ran Repair Permissions and Repair Disk (from the 10.5 Install disc), but these did not solve the problem. I also downloaded and ran the 10.5.4 Combo; it appeared to run fine. But subsequently running the Security Update 2008-005 and trying to reinstall Safari failed (both directly downloaded from Apple). Security Update won't let me select the computer hard drive, and Safari tells me that OS 10.5.2 or higher is required (even though I have 10.5.4 installed). I also tried running Software Update from other profiles on the computer to no avail.
Any thoughts as to what is going on here? I'd prefer not to have to reinstall the OS from scratch, but I'm running out of ideas.
    Thanks!

Select the clone tool and try a tool re-set.

  • Thunderbolt is not working after Mountain Lion installed

I'm putting this discussion again because the problem didn't solve like I thought !
As you can see from the title that I have a problem already after I installed the new OS X Mountain Lion. I got my thunderbolt to Hdmi adabtor connected to an LCD TV and it was working great with snow lepord. But after the I installed Mountain Lion. it won't even recognize that there is something connected and I don't see the options in my System Prefrences> Diplays like before.
I already run software update and it's all up to date and also done a PRAM reset and nothing changed.
It only ok for a couple of min. if I restarted it and without the sound working from the LCD TV.
    Please I need help here.

Well I would have hit repair. This might be stemming from a deeper issue with the installation. I've never seen that dialogue box before, and if ignoring it and booting normally worked for you then I say you did the right thing.
    however
I would, go to disk utility and then select your boot drive and verify and repair disks and permissions.
if anything else WEIRD should occur, you may want to go to the recovery partition of ML (cmd+R while hearing the boot chime) and reinstalling ML. That dialogue box you mentioned is strange and should be noted. A reinstall will probably fix whatever issue comes up.

  • Software Update not working

On my Mac Mini Software Update is not working as expected. I have this machine setup with multiple accounts and my kids accounts are very limited so they can use the computer safly while I am not home. My account has admin permissions. When I log into the computer and run Software Update it finds many (11) updates. I click install all and go do something else. I come back about 20 mintues later and found the system sitting at the "login" screen. I thought great it finished. Then I thought that was way to fast. So I log in and run Software Update again. You guessed it the same 11 items need an Update. So now I try and update them one at a time. I successfully updated a few items. Then I thought let me update the 4 items that require a reboot at one time. I started the update and left the machine alone for a while. I came back to the system saying I needed to restart. I clicked on OK. The system then said that it couldn't log out because "Software Update" was running. I could not do anything at this point except hold the power button in until the system powered down and I could then restart it.
To me it seams like a problem with the multi-user setup. Does anyone have any thoughts?
    Thanks,
    Scott

This did not solve the problem. I repaired disk permissions and deleted all the SoftwareUpdate ".plist" files found in the link. I restarted the Mac Mini. When I tried to run the Software Update for everything it still died. I then ran each update by itself and it worked fine so my system is up to date. However, I suspect the problem will reappear the next time Apple releases many updates together.
I guess I need to figure out the best way to contact Apple directly. And thanks for the info you provided.

  • HT1338 Software update not working with snow leopard 10.6.8

When I try to update snow leopard 10.8.6 through the Software update, it launches but crashes with the message Software Update can't check for updates because of a network problem. Software Update can’t connect to the update server. But I do have internet connection. If I try to update from the terminal with the command " sudo softwareupdate -i -r, it tries to connect but end up with connection timed out. I have never able to update my system with software update utility. Does anybody have any suggestion?

    Hi,
This reply may seem late but might as well share my findings.
I have the same problems with the software updater for 10.6.8 as well after trying to move on to Mavericks from
    OS X Leopard 10.6.8.
Tried the patch as well the listed files to delete and etc but all failed.
Then I noticed the problem was with the software updater complaining that there was a network problem and even though the dignostics was run the results were no network connection exists but Air Port is connected and there is no issue browsing the web.
I took a look at the Wi-Fi settings and noticed that the default locations were going back to an old Wi-Fi network location I had latched on to 4 years ago! I assumed some screw up with the Wi-Fi network software and thus removed all Wi-Fi network associations and locations and reconfigured the Wi-Fi from scratch for my local home Wi-Fi network. After this the software update worked fine and can now download updates. Note that I did install the update patch by Apple though in my first attempt to resolve the problem.
I would consider the possibility of the Wi-Fi software services within OS X Snow Leopard being a bit "buggy".
Deleting all the non used Wi-Fi network associations and clearing or resetting the default location settings helped revive/resolve the no network connection problem with the software updater.
Now can move on to Mavericks...

  • Software Updates not working. Any suggestions why?

I am trying to get the updates that show up on Software Update but when they start to run the crash out right at the beginning of the download. I am on 10.4 with a G5. Any suggestions. I am inclined to think this is an Apple problem and not my computer problem. I am on DSL too.
    Thanks,
    Rob

So far we know the following is true:
    1. Permissions repaired
    2. Different account tried
    3. Peripherals are non-relevant
This says the issue is at the system level. System level issues which can affect Software Update include:
    1. Bad cache files
    2. Bad directory
    3. Firewalls
    4. routing issues to the Software Update server (i just checked that Software Update server is indeed working, and I was able to see I have an update waiting for me).
    5. Wrong disks used for system installation. Occasionally I've seen this happen that people use another Mac's installer disks to install an operating system and not the retail installer disks or the disks which came with the Mac, and an Apple application misbehaves.
Cache file corruption and directory failure can most frequently happen if your hard disk is nearly full. They can also happen, if you force shut down/restart the computer from the power button. Do you think either of these applies?

Sometimes the drivers for your Nokia device and associated connectivity cables can become corrupted.
To resolve this, uninstall and re-install Nokia PC Suite and Nokia Software Updater:
    - In your PC’s Control Panel, go to Add/Remove programs
    - Uninstall Nokia Software Updater (if there are more than one entries uninstall all of them)
    - Uninstall Nokia PC Suite
    - Go to www.europe.nokia.com/pcsuite to download and install the latest version of Nokia PC Suite
