Software Update now working
Hello,
Just recently, my Software Update is not working.
I choose Software Update and it goes to the window that says "Checking for new software." The blue bar just sits at about 1/8 done and does nothing from that point. I can even leave it overnight and there is no progress.
I have tried repairing my permissions as well as trashing my preps in both my main and user Preferences folder for softwareupdate with no luck.
I just tried reinstalling 10.5.6 and no luck.
Any ideas what I can do to get Software Update to work?
Help!
Thanks!
Apparently the restart isn’t necessary.

I did software update, now java in Safari doesn't work.
I ran software update, now Java in Safari and Firefox doesn't work. How do I fix it?
I already tried that.
I am running OS 10.6.8.
I did a "normal" software update (under the Apple icon).. didn't update the OS to a higher level, it's still 10.6.8. But now certain websites tell me that Java is missing or not working. When I go to the Java site, they say that you can only download the newest Java for OS 7 or higher... that Java is automatically part of OS 6 and should have automatically updated when I do a Mac software update.
Java used to work. Now that I've "updated" my Mac software, it doesn't work. And there's no way to download and install Java (according to them).
It's a never ending circle with no solution. -
Mac Book Software Update not working (Software Update does not have any new software for your computer at this time), my current MacBook version is 10.5.8.
As a result I can't update iTunes, version 10.5.2 (This software requiers Mac OS X version 10.6.8 or later)
Now when I connect my iPhone 4, version iOS 6 iTunes can't connect to iPhone (The iPhone "XXXXX's iPhone" cannot be used because it requiers iTunes version 10.6.3 or later.)
so in a nutshell can't use iphone 4, because iTune is not updated and will not update because Mac Book is not up to date and will not update either.
Please help.
Thank you

Un-install according to the developer's un-install instructions.
You do not need to use cleaning programs. They can destroy your computer operation as they may already have done.
CleanMyMac - Uninstall
CleanMyMac2 Un-install
After un-installing, run this program to make sure you got all the pieces.
EasyFind – Spotlight Replacement
Do a backup.
Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J. When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder. Select Library. Then go to Preferences/com.apple.appstore.plist. Move the .plist to your desktop.
Restart, open the application and test. If it works okay, delete the plist from the desktop.
If the application is the same, return the .plist to where you got it from, overwriting the newer one.

Apple Software Update Not Working
I cannot get Apple Software Update to work on my Windows XP Pro system. It simply says that new software was found but it did not specify which Apple software needs to be updated. I am using iTunes, QuickTime, and Safari. Any help appreciated!
The latest version numbers (at the time I'm making this post) are:
iTunes 10.6.3.25
QuickTime 7.7.2
Safari 5.1.7
If you're behind on any of those, try updating using installers downloaded from the Apple website:

HT5766 Where can I find the size of a download for a software update now?
Hello,
Where can I find the size of a download for a software update now?
Since I upgraded to Mountain Lion (Mac OSX 10.8.3) this information is no longer available in software updates listing you get if you click on the Software Update menu item from the Apple menu.
I found the download size (often hundreds of megabytes for an individual update and sometimes a set of updates might amount to a few gigabytes) to be very helpful, and now that it seems no longer available (I can't even see it on the web page I came to for more information, thinking the download size would surely be specified there), it is frustrating. My current example is iTunes 11.0.3
I would greatly appreicate having this information back in the software updates listing, but since it is no longer available there, and I don't know where else to find it, if anybody can enlighten me to its whereabouts, I'd be grateful.
Thanks and cheers!stewedapples wrote:

Getting Software Update to work?
Hi guys,
We're looking into trying to get Software Update to work on our Xserve.
The network team have put the IP address into their Inty client to allow us direct access to the net.
Problem is that when I start up the service and click update list nothing happens even tho it's downloaded some updates perviously (So confused.com)
Looking back through the logs to see what the **** has gone wrong I found this under each log:
*Software Update Service Log
Mon May 11 15:01:07 xserve.X.X.X swupd_syncd[62831] <Info>: Started
Mon May 11 15:01:08 xserve.X.X.X swupd_syncd[62831] <Error>: Unable to retrieve catalog index from the upstream server
*Software Update Error Log
[Wed May 13 14:32:05 2009] [notice] Apache/1.3.41 (Darwin) configured -- resuming normal operations
[Wed May 13 14:32:05 2009] [notice] Accept mutex: flock (Default: flock)
In the Xserve the options I have selected are the following services:
* AFP
* Netboot
* NFS
* Open Directory
* SMB
* Software Update
Can someone please offer some advice on what I need to do to get this service working. As it would be handy to get the Mac's to communicate with the xserve rather than going to the net or sending the updates to the Mac's and not logging on each one at a timePost to the appropriate Server Products forum where those mavens congregate.

TS1394 Software Update NOT WORKING (Snow Leopard)
Software Update NOT WORKING (Snow Leopard)
Hi, I am currently using Snow Leopard 10.6 on my iMac. I opened iTunes and was told there was an update available so I clicked the button to download it. This obviously opened up the 'download' screen with blue bar. The blue bar does not move and the message comes up that the download failed. I have tried troubleshooting, but the message I get is that I am not connected to the internet - which I am.
Please help.Check your iTunes version, it's reporting v10.6.3 here on 10.6.8 and no updates required.
You should be able to download it from here

I do not understand you question. If you are stuck on iOS 2.2 you likely have the original iPod (1G). That iPod can be updated as high as 3.1.3 by:

I just did the automatic restart after software update. When everything came back up, Skype would start but immediately freeze at log in. Chrome would also start, but kill Gmail and facebook pages immediately. Firefox and other applications work. i checked software update again, and it seems to want to me to reinstall all of the things I just updated. I've done it twice but get the same thing every time.
They should be. They both worked until just now. Also I checked again and realized that everything in the software update had indeed been downloaded. So now its just a chrome/skype problem.

Upgraded Software update - now cable doesn't work!
I went to use the software update today when I was connected to me PC. It told me there was an update to the software and to remove my phone and USB connection while it downloaded and installed. I did this and went through the update which apprently worked fine but needed to also install a cable driver update, did this as advised then tried to reconnect my phone but the PC just doesn't see it anymore.
Thanks Nokia.
My PC is running Windows XP. Software update is now 1.3.60en
Phone is N73
April 07 - just got an E65 - not too bad so far.Just my luck!! Fortunatey its not too big a problem as I have damaged my phone prior to this and am awaiting a replacement from the insurance people. I was updating to see what the update offered and if it sorted some of the issues I have with it as it stands. As for "dont fix it if it aint broke" I have never had this phone working in the way that it should. the N73 has been a big dissopointment and now I hear that it has been discontinued, no surprises there!
It disgusts me that companies like Nokia release software before it has been fully tested just because its cheaper to let the paying public do the tests and give them a greater spectrum of results. Souns to me like they're basing their business strategy on Microsoft.

Re-install Tiger, Software Update, now Airport doesn't work
So, I just replaced the hard drive on my Dual USB iBook G3. I completed the installation, and everything was working great. Airport was showing my home network (unsecured, iknow) and I was able to connect to Software Update via the Airport.
First major download was the 10.4.8 combined update for PPC - after downloading it and restarting I lost Airport connectivity. Can't find my newtork, can't manually input IP address, etc.
Next, plugged into Ethernet and downloaded Airport (4.2 ?) and still nothing.
What's the deal? Airport was working before the updates, and now nothing. Other laptops at home are working wirelessly just fine, so it's not my ISP, connection, or router.
Help!Hi sockdaddy, welcome to Apple Discussions!
Click here to be taken to the Airport Troubleshooting kBase document.
It could be that you need a firmware update following the 10.4.8 update. Follow the steps in the above link, and post back with your results.
Another thing to try is the Mac OS Software update. Click on the Apple logo at the top left of screen while connected to the 'net, choose 'Software Update' and let the computer do the rest.
If all else fails, remove and re-seat the Airport card by following these instructions.
Let us know how you go. -
CS 3 worked yesterday - got software updates - now all parts merged into 1 uneditable image
Hi. I worked on a logo yesterday. This a.m. I got software updates and did it automatically. I don't know what the updates were but I just did it and then the computer restarted. Now all my parts have been merged into one un-editable un-workable image. They are not separate any more. They are not grouped, not compounded, not locked. I do not know what happened. Any ideas? Thank you for any help you can give.
Try again. I am having a lot of trouble w. the forum trying to get in with my correct user name and password. Too bad there isn't a way that I can delete the connection to my email and start from scratch. Anyway....
Yes, I am working on the master page, no layers.
I will try to run Disk Utility and reboot too.
So far I have also done a page drag and saved it out as an inex.
Thanks.
