Software Update runs every time I reboot (with Sys Pref box unchecked)!

I have gone to System Preferences and unchecked the Software Update box so it won't run automatically, but every time the computer starts it loads software update. Is there somewhere else I need to disable this?
Thanks!
Imac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

System Prefs->Accounts->your account->login items and ensure that there's nothing there WRT software update. If nothing's there, then reset Software Update, go to ~/Library/Preferences/ and select the com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist file, CMD+I, and lock it. Restart and see if that fixes things. Finally, some Apple apps have a check for updates automatically option. If checked, that might be triggering SU.

  • Software Update Runs Every Time I Boot Up

As soon as I updated OS X to 10.5.8, the Software Update runs every time I boot my MacBook. This occurs even though the "Check for Updates" option is NOT selected (in System Preferences|Software Update).
This indicates (to me) that, since Software Update is not working properly, I can no longer trust that my machine has the current updates.
    Any ideas???

It's probably in your login items. Launch Software Update, right-click its Dock icon, and ensure +Open at login+ is unchecked.

  • Software Update runs every time I log in

How do I stop software update from running every time I log in? I have it set to check for updates weekly (the default), but it starts up every time I log in.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions:
It might be a corrupted .plist.
    First try this:
Uncheck the box for checking for updates.
    Reboot
See if the problem still occurs.
If so, create a new temporary admin account and see if the problem occurs with the new user.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
If your problem persists get yourself a micro USB cable (sold separately), you can restore your Apple TV from iTunes:
Remove ALL cables from Apple TV. (if you don't you will not see Apple TV in the iTunes Source list)
Connect the micro USB cable to the Apple TV and to your computer.
Reconnect the power cable (only for Apple TV 3)
    Open iTunes.
Select your Apple TV in the Devices list, and then click Restore.

  • Software update runs every login

Everything I login to 10.5.1 software update runs and tells me "no updates available". This is anytime I login. If I logout of a session and log back in the sofware update runs again. Reboot same thing. What up?
    Ken-

Thanks. When I go into accounts and choose login items. There are two items and both have checks next to them indicating "hidden". One of them is Software Updates. Neither of them can be removed because there is no button for remove. Right clicking or control clicking just gives "reveal in finder".
Is there a specific process to remove them?

  • OS X Update fails every time.

Ever since I have installed OS 10.5 its every update failed to install, when I tried to install from the software update. Every time I have to Download a stand alone installer to update. Strange things happened for 10.5.4 update. I got the update size as 59 mb from software update I downloaded it, which took me 1 hour. After that I restarted mac in order to install the update. But nothing happened as usual (This same thing has happend for previous updates also). I kept it installing over night but still nothing happened. So I downloaded the separate installer (Size was 554 mb). It took me a heck of a time because of the slow speeds of my ISP. Soon after the speed went down and down, finally It said timed out I did this same process 5 times and finally on the 5th try it downloaded the update. I clicked on the .dmg which was surprisingly not 554 mb it was 617mb.
But on this try also it said the image failed to mount.
what to do? Because of this I am unable to update it to mobile me.

I've deleted all files from the Library/Updates folder, still won't expand the package, either directly or via the Download only option. logfile below.

Now, iTunes won't launch and can't be updated. Please help.
If I have lost my music collection I will be switching platforms ASAP. It is insane that Apple has updates seemingly every day for their products.

I was in your same situation with 14 downloads and 14 attempts.
You have to make sure that your Mac is booting into 64 bit mode.  You can make sure of this by going into System Preferences and scrolling down to 'Software' and making sure that you are booding with 64 bit Kexts.
If not, restart while holding the 6 and 4 keys down until you see the spinning gear wheel and try installng again.
BUT, what I also did was to go into Applications, click on the Lion installer, Get Info, and give yourself custom priviliges to Read And Write.
I did this simultaneously, and I don't know what function did it, but it worked for me, with no further downloads of the installer.
    Good luck!

  • Ever since I received my Macbook Pro in July 2011 I've had issues with my wireless connection at home.  After software updates, Apple support suggested I reboot my router which works.  But now I have to do it every other day.  ????

Ever since I received my Macbook Pro in July 2011 I've had issues with my wireless connection at home.  After software updates, Apple support suggested I reboot my router which works.  But now I have to do it every other day.  ????  AT&T my DSL carrier suggests I get a new router.  Apparently the one I have is really old and doesn't support my Macbook Pro.  Does this sound right?

If your using WEP encryption yes, Apple has discontinued that becaues it's worthless. WEP (and WPA) is cracked so encryption makes no sense.
Get a new Wireless N router, set it up with WPA2 (AES) Personal and two different 20+ randon letter/numbersymbol character passwords
One for Admin access only of the router, keep this on paper off all comptuers in a safe someplace.
One for entering into devices, computers etc for Internet Access Only.
You need the long and random password to defeat brute force attacks by GPU software that the hackers have now.
Also if you give out the password to another, they can't hack the network with the guest access password.
Computers remember the internet password, so anyone with access to your machines or network will have the password.
Since you have another Admin only password, they can't hack in. got it?
You don't need "Invisible" or "MAC Address filtering" that's a waste of time as hackers can sniff a network and causes issues getting on the network.
    Good luck.

How can I solve this? Every time I have the option to update an application I receive the same notification: "The update could not be verified. It may have been corrupted during downloading. The update will be downloaded and checked again the next time that Software Update runs"

Can we eliminate one minor possibility: are you in the UK and using Virgin Media cable connection? I ask because the latest 'Superhub' firmware is corrupting large downloads for some people.

  • 'iTunes Software Licence Agreement' every time I open iTunes

Since the most recent iTunes update, I'm getting the 'iTunes Software Licence Agreement' window every time I open iTunes (screenshot - http://img508.imageshack.us/img508/5265/68707078.png) -- to which I have to select 'agree' to access normally.
Why? And anyway to stop this?
    Thanks in advance.

Though on my own account, its still comming up with the "set up" screens before it starts.. any other ideas i could try?
iTunes setup assistant runs every time you launch, user-account-specific issue ... I think your other set of iTunes preference files (in your normal user account) might be damaged, Gareth. (Have experimented with this on my XP PC ... rebuild one set and the license agreement runs, rebuild the other set and the iTunes Setup assistant runs. So damage to the 'other" set might be causing your relentless-setup-assistant thing.)
So, we'll try swapping out your other set of pref files. Here's Windows 7 instructions. Make a note of any custom preferences you have set up, because this procedure will return everything to default that wasn't returned to default by rebuilding the other set. You might also have to reinstall any third-party iTunes add-ons/plug-ins after doing this one, too.
Here's Windows 7 instructions for rebuilding "the other set" *(Step 10* contains the crucial difference from the license-agreement-problem instructions).
First, quit iTunes if you have it open.
Next, you'll need to make sure you are set up to view hidden files and folders in Vista (or 7).
    1. From the Start menu, click Open.
    2. In the Organize menu, click Folder and Search Options.
    3. Click the View tab.
    4. In the "Advanced settings" pane under "Hidden files and folders" make sure that the "Show hidden files and folders" option is selected.
    5. Click OK.
Next, you'll remove the iTunes preference folder (and contained file).
    6. In Computer, open Local Disk: C or whichever drive your documents are stored on.
    7. Open the Users folder.
    8. Open the folder with the name of the Vista (or 7) user account in which iTunes always shows the setup assistant in when launching.
    9. Open the AppData folder.
    10. Open the Roaming folder.
    11. Open the Apple Computer folder.
    12. Drag the iTunes folder out onto the Desktop.
Now you'll rebuild the preference folder and file.
    13. Launch iTunes. This will cause iTunes to rebuild that preference folder and file. *The setup assistant will appear for you again.* (That is expected behavior when that particular preference folder and contained file are being rebuilt.)
    14. Now quit iTunes and launch iTunes again. If the preference folder and contained file have been successfully rebuilt, the setup assistant should not appear this time.
    ... any luck with that?

  • Logic asks for my serial number every time I reboot the computer.  Anyone know what gives?  I restored the program after a hard drive crash and now I need to enter the serial number every time.  Why doesn't it remember the code?

After a computer crash I had to reinstall the whole system using Migration Assistant.  The User ID is NOT the same as the original computer.  And now every time I reboot the computer and load Logic the program asks me to enter my Serial Number with a "Licensing" window. Why can't the copy protection see that I have already done this?  Am I missing some Pref file, or is it in the wrong location?  The program works fine once I enter in the number and insert my Logic XSKey (from an older update).  Thanks.

    Hi!
Do you run automap 4.8/4.9? If so, then the chance is that automap is the culprit for slow undos/redos on LPX 10.1. Delete the Novation controller in the LPX controller surfaces. You find it under preferences/controller surfaces. If that is the solution for you, then uninstall automap. You find the uninstaller under applications-automap.
    Good luck!

  • Help Problem NOT Solved Why have my system preferences suddenly started to reset back to default every time I reboot

Why have my system preferences suddenly started to reset back to default every time I reboot At first I thought it was happening because I disconnected my Google account, but now I've disable that account and switched to Firefox.  I wasn't sure how my browser setting could have anything to do with my system preferences and now I think it's some glitch or missed setting that is causing the problem.  Oh & I locked my preference panel and that did not help.
In addition to what I say above, not only are all my system preferences being reset to default, but also the preferences for word and Excel.  I'm sure it's affecting other programs, but Word & Excel are the main ones that I have a lot of custom setting for.  Especially annoying is the fact that my ribbon commands are reset.  All this started happening when I signed up for a Google Drive account.  The only system updates have been the usual security updates.  I deleted my Google account but haven't uninstalled it.  I'll try this, but I can't figure out how that would result in all OS preferences being reset.
