  • Software update scan cycle not pushed out to new clients

I have a very odd problem that I'm not fully understanding why it is happening.  I have my SCCM server pushing out updates to my clients and it works just fine.  The issue happens when I push out SCCM to a new client.  Heres what happens as
far as updates go when I push SCCM out to a new client:
    -Push out SCCM to client
-Client suddenly starts looking to Microsoft for Windows Updates
The only way I can get it to change its policy to look to my WSUS/SCCM server is to manually run the "Software updates scan cycle" job on the client.  As soon as I do that then the clients Updates show it is manged by the systems admin, which
    is what I want.
My question is why is this policy not pushed out by default as soon as I push out a new client?  I shouldn't have to wait 7 days for the client to look back at the software policy before it updates because by then its already downloaded 100 new updates
from Microsoft, which I don't want.  Does anyone else know how to fix this?  Hopefully it all makes sense.

Yeah I tried to build my own custom client settings package and push it out with the client, but it still didn't change anything.  I can get on the client before I push out the SCCM client to it and look at gpedit.msc and go to Comp Config > Admin
Temp > Windows Components > Windows Update > and it shows all fields are set to "Not Configured."  Once I push the SCCM client to the client I can go back to that same location and check and all the fields are still set to "Not
configured."  But when I manually go into that clients control panel and select Configuration manager > Actions tab > Software updates scan cycle > Run now, I can then go back into the gpedit and under windows Update the Specify intranet
Microsoft update service location will then have the FQDN of my SCCM/WSUS server in there so it works then, but for some reason its not doing that part automatically.

  • Software Update Scan Cycle automatically changes the WUServer value

We have 2 forests, Forest A and Forest B that are untrusted. We have a Primary Site installed on Server A in Forest A with a Software Update Point.
We got the Software Update Point Role installed successfully on a server B in Forest B (its a Replica of Upstream server) by opening the firewalls between Server A & Server B. WSUS Sync is working fine between Server A & Server B, no errors in the logs.
We are now trying to patch the clients in Forest B, every time we run a Software Update Scan Cycle on the clients, the Windows Update Server setting in the Local Policy (Specify intranet Microsoft Update Service Location) changes the value from http://serverB:80
to http://serverA:80. Since the firewall rules are blocked between clients in Forest B to site Server in Forest A, the patching fails with the following error - "OnSearchComplete - Failed to end search job. Error = 0x80072ee2."
Manually changing the value in Local Policy to http://serverB:80 does not work, on the next scan cycle, this gets changed to http://serverA:80 automatically.
We tried to set a Domain GPO to avoid changing the value, but that results in a different failure - "Group policy settings were overwritten by a higher authority (Domain Controller) to: Server http://ServerB:80 and Policy ENABLED Failed to Add Update Source
for WUAgent of type (2) and id Error = 0x87d00692."
It looks like a bug where the client is trying to auto assign the primary site server as a WSUS Server Location. If the client needs to access the Server A directly for a Scan cycle, what's the point in installing Software Update Point in Forest B? From a security
standpoint, this absolutely does not make any sense. Any ideas what might be happening?

    Thank you Jason!
I think I was a little unclear.. the SUP that I installed in Forest B is a replica of the SUP installed on Primary Site (Forest A). You're right, both the SUP's are syncing without issues. (The Upstream server that I mentioned above is the one on Primary
    Site)
We do have a MP & DP on the server B (Forest B) that has a replica SUP, and all the client communication is restricted to Server B (Forest B) for Software distribution, Policy assignments, PXE. Could you tell me the purpose of the client to directly
talk to SUP in a different forest when there's already a SUP within the same forest (even though it's a replica).

  • Software Update Scan Cycle not found on Client computer.

    Hi,
In my organization in some of the client PC's (Windows 7), Software update scan cycle is not found.
When i checked the UpdateDeployment.log file on client computer it saying
"Software Updates client configuration policy has not been received."
"Software updates functionality will not be enabled until the configuration policy has been received. If this issue persists please check client/server policy communication."
    "Software Updates feature is disabled"
Please help me to solve the issue. Let me know the solution if anyone faced the same problem.
    Thanks in Advance
    Shreyas

  • Software Update Scan: Failed to populate from CCM_SoftwareUpdatesClientConfig instance, error 0x80004005

    Hey Guys,
has anyone ever seen this error when scanning for Software Updates (scanagent.log)? It is happening on a remote management point/SUP which should get the updates from itself. Mpcontrol.log/wsusctrl.log are looking good and Package Distribution is working
fine. Just the Software Updates do not work.
The Windowsupdate.log is showing some errors too: WARNING: PTError: 0x80248014/WARNING: Initialization failed for Protocol Talker Context: 0x80248014 The other logs are looking good so far.
We are already on SP1 but i think the error was there before. I just missed to check this before i upgraded.
    What i already did:
    - reinstalled SCCM Client
    - repair WMI
    - reinstall SUP/MP role
    - reinstall Windows Update Agent 3.0
So any help is really appreciated.
    best regards
    Philipp

  • Software Updates failed to installed on Server 2008 R2

    Hello All,
I have performed deployment of around 89 software updates on Windows Server 2008 Citrix Terminal Server. However, out of them only 1 of them got installed .  8 updates got downloaded in ccmcache.
The updates were installing manually if we try to install them.
I do not understand why this happened.
I have checked the "States 3 - States for a deployment and computer" and appears that Software updates are not required. Also, i of list of few updates which listed
as "is installed", but actually does not appears to be installed.
    Please share your valuable inputs.

software updates were targetting using single deployment & is there any deadline configured for the same?
someone might have uninstalled previously installed updates, please run software update scan cycle to see latest results. also check event viewer logs & updatestore.log & windowupdate.log for more information.

  • I can not update a Windows Server 2008 R2 with Software Update Group in SCCM2012

    Hi all,
I got some problems with update deployments these days.
I try to configure SCCM2012 to update 1 Windows Server 2008 R2 (with Hyper-V / This server is in a cluster)
Actually i've 4 other Hyper-V servers and i would like to add one more in the cluster called Hyper-V5. To do that i need that all Hyper-V servers use the same Windows Updates.
I created a collection for my Hyper-V servers and then a Software Update Group with all needed updates (checked the list of another HV-Server).
I did a deployment on this collection using this new Software Update Group.
I checked the Sofwtare Center's logs on the Hyper-V5 server and i saw that synchronization has a successfull state.
But there is no updates installed or displayed in Sofwtare Center.
Here is some screenshots : Oh no i can't post image because ... "Body text cannot contain images or links until we are able to verify your account." waiting to be verified since months.
    Thanks for your help.

    Hi,
Have you try to run Software Updates Scan Cycle and Software Updates Deployment Evaluation Cycle Actions on the client? Please check ScanAgent.log and PolicyAgent.log to see whether the client received the updates deployment policy.

  • How does the software updates actually get installed?

    Hello,
Yesterday I followed the steps to perform "To manually deploy the software updates in a software update group" or
https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg712304.aspx.  or pages 12-15.  In a nutshell, I created a Critical Update item with a collection of 3 servers.  When I look
at the Software Update Group area that lists the members that I created, I do see under the tabs that Deployed=Yes and Download=Yes for the items that I created.    However, this was not installed on any of the servers.   How does
this actually get installed on the collection servers?  Did I miss a step?   Do the client settings play a role here?  Please advise.
    Thanks for all the help!
    Reez

Kind of. Yes a software update scan cycle must run (a deployment eval doesn't), but it doesn't wait until the 7 day interval. Simply creating a new deployment in the console will trigger a software update scan cycle on targeted clients:
    http://blog.configmgrftw.com/notes-software-update-scan-cycle/
For your deployment, did you create a "Required" deployment?
Have you reviewed software center on the targeted clients?
Have you check wuahandler.log on the clients.

  • How can you see Software Update compliance breakdown by Client?

I want to see a view in the Software Library that breaks down by client what is shown in the "All Software Updates" node.
Basically, with SCCM 2012 you can see all the software updates and there compliance summary which is nice, however I can't find a way to see a detailed version of this that breaks this all down by client.
For example if I have a Software Update that is Required on 5, Not Required on 3, Installed on 4, and Unknown on 2 clients I want to know which specific clients make up those numbers. I want to know which clients are required, which are not required, which
are already installed and which are unknown.
There doesn't seem to be a view like this in SCCM 2012 and its very odd that it doesn't provide this look into the data.
Am I missing something, can someone point me to the way to see this data quickly.

I am aware of that view however that is just mapping the state number to a name for several different "TopicTypes". And the one you are point to is actually not for Software Updates Scan Status. The TopicType for a Clients Update Scans is 500,
which has 0-3 only. 0 is supposed to be Unknown, 1 not-required, 2 required, and 3 installed.
They set the status for an endpoint/update for 2 and 3 but I have several Unknown, and Not-Required and they don't write those rows to the database if they are in that state.
It seems when they are gathering data from the client the summarize everything, and one keep the specific rows for clients if they are required or installed, and they don't create a row for the other states. From some digging it looks like they stored this
data in 2007, but dropped in in 2012.
Maybe it is to conserve space or something I don't know but its stupid. It would be nice if there was a hidden setting that would enable it to store these rows as the database is set to collect them, they just don't.
    FYI...
For WMI Queries you can use SMS_StateInformation which maps to the v_StateNames.

  • Client not receiving the software update FROM SCCM 2012 R2

We have SCCM 2012 R2 installed and configured for SUP.and i have synchonice the SUP with WSUS server in the same which is there in the same machine.
Now i can able to deploy the software update from SCCM 2012 R2 without any erro to the windows 7clients, but client side when i check there is no update installed in the clients , but seems there is no error in the client logs

    Hi,
I'd start with running a "Software Updates Scan Cycle" from the configuration manager control panel applet and check the log file Windowsupdate.log, WUAhandler.log.

  • How to clear old Software Update data as well as Report Data

    Hi,
due to some problems with the software update scan we removed the sup role and the wsus server from our site server. After the removale i checked the Software Updates Console node and saw that all synced updates will still be shown with a grayed symbol in front. Also the reports will show the last scan dates as well as other informations related to software updates.
Is there a way to clean these datas  ? Deleting the computer object will not delete these datas.
How can i clean up such stuff ? Is there an SQL task?
    thanks

Yes, I know this is an old post, I’m just trying to clean them up.
All this data will automatically get clean out of the site server once the site maintenance task have a chance to run.

  • Forcing Software Updates

We just finished our patch cycle.  Now we had a client update MSIE to version 11.  I see in WindowsUpdate.log that he applied the update to MSIE version 9 during our patch pilot last week. We run software updates using Task Sequences, so our deployments
have no deadline.  How can I force that client to apply the MSIE 11 patch without re-running an advert\TS?  I'd prefer to do this via PWS and WMI.
I see there are various WMI triggers, but I'm not sure how they apply here.
    Software update scan is {00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000113}
    Software update store is {00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000114}
    Software updates deployment is {00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000108}
Do I need to run these in some kind of sequence? If I just trigger a scan (113), I can see the scan take place, but the missing patch is not applied.  I want the client to realize it's missing a patch, download it from SCCM, and then apply it.
Note I'm not really asking how to apply this one specific patch, I'm trying to understand this process and how I can control it.

If the deployment has no deadline, then the updates will never be installed automatically. There is no way to do what you ask without using a TS or (possibly) a script. That's the whole point of using deadlines and is how updates were designed to work.
Using a TS, while technically valid, is more or less working outside of the workflow as designed for the product.

  • Software Updates And Service Packs Not Showing As Required

I have a few clients where when I do a scan with Windows Update it will show a few updates. These updates are synced in the Configmgr console. But it says they are not required. One of them is a service pack even.
I have checked and both the hardware inventory and software update scan have run within the past 24 hours.
I ran a homepage summarization, but still no luck.
What would my next step be?

Yes, I know this is an old post, but I’m trying to clean them up. Did you solve this problem, if so what was the solution?

  • Software updates - Clients stuck in passed/Inactive, passed/Active

I've deployed some software updates (an update group that has a deployment package of Windows Software Updates) to a small collection, but for the past couple days since I kicked off the deployment, all the assets in the collection are just
sitting with either of these two statuses.
There's no maintenance window on this collection, and deployment schedule was set to "As Soon As Possible".
I've tried running Software Updates Deployment Evaluation and Software Updates Scan Cycles multiple times thoughout the day but the clients do not appear to be pulling down any updates yet.
What should I be checking for at this point? Or just wait a couple days?

When it comes to maintenance windows, they just dont affect the clients that reside in the collection where the maintenance window is configured. If you have configured Coll1 to include all of your clients, and configured a maintenance window on
that collection, if you then created Coll2 and added some of your clients to that, those clients would still get the configured maintenance window from Coll1. So check if you don't have any maintenance windows configured on another collection where you clients
    are members of.
    Nickolaj Andersen | www.scconfigmgr.com |
    @NickolajA
To respond to this, I can say that I do not have any maintenance windows applied to this sub-collection, nor any other collections that the clients would be direct or indirect members of.

  • Software Updates deployment remains at unknown status

I have a curious issue where the deployment summarization is showing all required clients as "Client check passed" but they never progress and further. If I drill down into the to updates with the software update group they appear to of deployed?
This is only effecting this one deployment there is nothing wrong with the clients it only appears to be the reporting mechanism?
    Any help appreciated.
    SCCM Deployment Technician

Unknown means ,either that the client system did not complete the software  update scan or the site server did not receive the software update scan status from the client .You should check the logs (wuahandler.log--scan status , ,updatesdeployment.log--deployment
,updatestore.log--what is missing and what is installed) for further troubleshooting. you may also required to refresh the compliance state ,script avilable here https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc146437.aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396
