Software Update stuck: "Moving files into place"

Software Update stuck. In OS C Lion (10.7.4) I ran Software Update on 25-Jul-2012 (The day when OS X Mountain Lion was released). Software Update had 5 updates, such as Safari 6.0, Remote Desktop, iPhoto (?). Software update gets about 95% done, based on the progress bar. Then it hangs... for hours. I finally had to force-Quit Software Update. Rebooted. Tried again. Same problem. Rebooted and rest the PRAM (command-option-P-R) at start-up. Ran Software Update and had the same problem. Software Update hangs while "Moving files into place." Has anyone else seen this problem and know how to get it to work?

I discovered that if I selected only one update at a time to install, all but one installed (i.e., Remote Desktop, Safari 6, and iWork update). The one update that did not install was the iPhoto update. I had left the install to run overnight (about 7 hours). Console log for /var/log/install.log when installing iPhoto update follows:

  • Software update freezes at "moving items into place"

Do the usual update procedure, but Software Update gets to the "moving items into place" point and hangs. You can't press "stop" you can't quit you can only turn off the machine by pressing and holding the on/off button.

Try booting into Safe Mode, hold down left side shift key when booting, hold untill you see the progress bar (note this will take longer than normal, so be patient)
Log in open disk utilities (Applications>Utilities.Disk utility.app) rhen select (highlght) your volume in the left side bar, click repair permissions.
The run software update again and try the install while in safe mode, if sucessful log out (this will take a little longer as well) and log back normally.

  • Software update stops on Moving Items into place.

Software update keeps hanging on the 'Moving items into place' when installing the latest version on my MBP13 with Lion 10.7.5 installed.
I just run software update and installed 3 other minor updates which worked perfectly.
Using Software Update to install iTunes 11.0.2 the progress bar hangs at about 90-05% with the banner 'Moving Items into place'. It will not continue. This is the third time I have had this and has been a re-install of the full OS to full resolve.
What is going wrong? Any diagnostics I can do?

I have this same problem only it is for a HP Photosmart printer driver update.  But it also happens on Digital Camera RAW Compatibility and Java for OS X 2013-003.  Please help!

  • Apple Software Update HP 2.12 Freezes At "Moving Items Into Place"

This morning Software Update notified me of a printer software update, namely HP 2.12. I quit all other applications and commenced with the update. It made it to "moving items into place" and then froze. I waited for 20 to 30 minutes and there was no progress on the installation past that point. I waited a little longer and then did a hard restart and tried again. Same results except this time I left it for several hours. I had to hard restart again and then downloaded the update manually to install it thinking that there was a problem with Software Update itself. The updater has frozen at the same place. I am working on a Macbook early 2008 running 10.7.5 with 4 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM. Does anyone have any recommendations on how to deal with the problem? Thank you.

    Irelander,
Glad to hear you are back up and running. Please let us know ASAP if you run into further problems.
    Best of Luck!

  • ITunes Install stuck on "Moving Items Into Place" for 3 days

3 days ago, I was unable to open iTunes on my Mac OSX Version 10.9.3. The error message claimed that the file was corrupt and I needed to uninstall and redownload iTunes. I started the download on May 16th in the morning. It got stuck on "moving items into place." After a few hours, I finally managed to force quit and shut down my system. Then, I tried again. It has been stuck on this screen since May 16th. Any idea why I am unable to download iTunes? HELP!

Just found this and it fixed the issue for me, hope it works for you:
    - Try booting into Safe Mode, hold down left side shift key when booting, hold untill you see the progress bar (note this will take longer than normal, so be patient)
    - Log in and open disk utilities (Applications->Utilities->Disk Utility app) then select (highlight) your volume in the left side bar, click repair permissions.
    - The run software update again and try the install while in safe mode, if sucessful log out (this will take a little longer as well) and log back normally.

  • My MacBook pro is freezing at the "moving items into place" phase. I have to restore from time machine each time. I'm talking about the 10.7.4 update

I can't seem to get the 10.7.4 update to work. It constantly freezing at the "moving items into place" phase. I let it run overnight and it's still frozen. I have to restore from time machine backup each time. Any help appreciated.

this is somethinng like the third post i have read about that update causing troubles...
But if I read this right- it is still in the install? Had you restarted and repaired permissions BEFORE the download? As well as emptying cache in safari first?
The other troubles I read had to do with after install, and caused by...oh what was it...it was early morning...an article at CNET news had it...google 10.7.4 update trouble and read the cnet one.

  • After trying to update itunes it now hangs moving items into place.

I get the error that this copy of itunes is corrupted or is not installed correctly.  Please reinstall itunes (error -42037).  I have attempted to reinstall but the install process hangs at moving items into place.  I have left it over night, before manually shutting down and trying again, and then left it all day.  Still hangs, whilst hanging the time remaining goes up from less than a minute, to 1 hour 6 minutes, to 2 hours 50 minutes etc.  I need to fix quickly as I am setting up a new phone and was able to restore all but my music from icloud.  I need my music and playlists set up before tomorrow.  Thanks

Hi, reinstalling iTunes should not mess with your music et cetera (however some users have suggested on here that it did), but keeping a backup is always recommended anyway.

  • Delta Update with flat file into infocube

    Hi
Can any one explain me the steps how to achive the delta update with falt file into infocube?
    Thanks

There is a documented way of managing a delta but it mostly boils down to how you model the process. SAP says you can add a ROcancel field ( or something similar to it) in the transaction data within the files
that way when you update the data into the cubes, it would be managed - whether it has to be added or over written,
therefore the best way to manage this would be to make some changes i the flat file-
are the flat files being generated by some program? maybe you can add in further to check the updated records -

Help, need to upgrade to a minimum of IOS5
    THANKS

You only have the option of you are already running iOS 5 already. If you are trying to update to iOS 5, you have to use iTunes on a computer to update the iPad.
    Here are the instructions.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4972
Or you can connect the iPad to the computer, launch iTunes. Select the iPad under the devices heading on the left, click on the Summary tab and then click on Check for Update
You will only be able to update to iOS 6 now.

  • How to update an image file into existing file

how to update an image file into existing file

    Hi,
So, i assume you want to change one picture. On Stage, i have edgeAnimate (an image), and
    1) i am using the div tag.
So: sym.$("edgeAnimate").css("background-image", "url(images/myImage.png)" ); will change my picture.
    Link: CSS properties.
    More CSS:
    sym.$("edgeAnimate").css( { "background-image": "url(images/myImage.png)", "background-size": "100% 100%", "background-repeat": "no-repeat", "cursor": "pointer" } );
    Using a path variable:
    var myPath = "images/myImage.png";
    sym.$("edgeAnimate").css( { "background-image": "url("+myPath+")", "background-size":"100% 100%", "background-repeat":"no-repeat", "cursor": "pointer" } );
    2) i am using the img tag.
I can add a class using Edge Animate user interface.
I choose one class name: "newImage".
So:  sym.$(".newImage").css("background-image", "url(images/myImage.png)" ); will change my picture.
Note: I assumed you don’t need to preload your picture.

Be patient. Apple just released IOS 6.1 and their servers are inundated with downloads. The network link between you and Apple may also have some undisclosed throughput or latency issues.
I just updated to IOS 6.1 and it took much longer than I expected.

  • HT1338 Having problems with latest software update - update just sitting in "moving items into place". Been like this all night - any suggestions ?  Running mount ion lion on a MacBook Pro.

System not moving out of software update.

OSX Mavericks is so riddled with bugs, it's extremely frustrating.
I made the mistake of upgrading to a new rMBP a few weeks ago (which came with Mavericks) and so far I've experienced
random issues with the machine not waking up from sleep
    display output garbled
videos freezing when played in fullscreen on quicktime
applications failing to load, with an error code of -600, as well
I've resorted to rebooting my laptop every time I want to use it, or rebooting every couple of hours, because it seems that Mavericks can't handle more than a couple of hours of runtime without crashing.
Apple, get your *** into gear, fix this crap, and find a new quality control team.

  • 10.6.4 update stuck writing files

I downloaded 10.6.4 and iTunes 9.2 tonight. Download was fine, hit restart, but about 3/4 of the way through (on the status bar) while "writing files" the update appears stuck and I have the spinning beach ball of death. Not sure if I should power down and try again or not. Fortunately, I did do a full backup this morning to an external drive before trying this update

If the process hung while writing files then chances are high that you have some file system corruption as a result of that combined with the forced shutdown. To prevent that from causing any problems, I suggest that before you try reinstalling anything, start up from your Snow Leopard installer disc. but instead of installing anything, go to into its Utilities & run its copy of Disk Utility. Select your normal startup drive from the list & click the "Repair Disk" button.
If that comes up OK (or fixes any problems it finds) then you can try the update again, but personally, I would reinstall the base version of Snow Leopard from the disc (which will not overwrite your user files & settings) to make sure the update is applied to as pristine a version of the OS as possible. Note that this will require another download of the update unless your base version is already 10.6.3.
You can use Software Update for this -- it will select the appropriate version automatically, & it probably will be the equivalent of the larger 10.6.4 combo update.

  • IPod 4 Software Update stuck. Please help!

Now it's stuck on a screen that shows the white cord pointing to the iTunes symbol. Anyone know how to get it back to normal? I really don't want to have to restart it, because I have forgoten some of my passwords, and stuff like that. If anyone knows how to get it  baxck to normal, or if there is even anyway to do that, I would really appreciate you telling me Thanks everybody!

If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
