Software update to 8.1 on my iPhone 6 est 16 hours??? Should I cancel or go through with it?
does it really take 16 hours to upgrade to 8.1? Should I even do this?

Check your security software
Related errors: 2, 4, 6, 9, 1000, 1611, 9006. Sometimes security software can prevent your device from communicating with either the Apple update server or with your device.
Check your security software and settings to make sure that they aren't preventing a connection to the Apple servers.

If you can run it under chrome, you have java installed.
There was some malware that exploited an older version of Java (not javascript) running in a Browser. Since few people use it Apple turned off Java by default in the Safari Browser.
If you need it for something, just turn it back on in Safari preferences (inside Safari). After a few months of non-use, you may find it has turned itself off again. -

I updated my iMac to 10.7.3 and about an hour later the screen began to flicker with a gray line on the upper side, and it also flicker green and red small pixel lines all over the screen, mainly green. The computer froze with these pixels, so I shut it off and restarted it, and there were this green lines everywere. So I turned it off, and the next day I turned it on and it began to work just fine, but suddenly the same thing happened again, and when I restart the computer again there are these green and some red pixels everywere.
I've read 10.7.3 is giving people many problems, but I never saw that it gave one like this. How can I fix this, or what will Apple do to fix this problem they caused me with their update.

I got Software update for iOS 6.1 ..
After installation - Phone shows message to connect to iTune,
I connect to iTune - I got message - iTune has detected iPhone in recovery mode. you must restore this iPhone before it can be used with iTune.
I click on Restore iPhone - it gives error
The iPhone "iPhone" could not be restored. an unknown error occurred (-1).
Not my phone is not working - Its dead - is show the screen - Connect to iTune.

the software update to ios 7.1 on my iphone 5 is 214 mb (settings>>general>>software update), while the update via itunes it's 1.27 gb. what's the difference, and which should i use?

You do not have that option with iOS 4. You must update using iTunes.

I am trying to update niphone and ipad to iOS 5 as some apps say is required. Get to settings, general and there is no option for softeware update on either device.
The Settings > General > Software Update option only appears when you have iOS 5+ installed, if you have iOS 4 then you will need to do the update via your computer's iTunes.
Connect the iPad to your computer's iTunes and copy any purchases off the iPad to your computer via File > Transfer Purchases. You may also want to copy photos and any important documents off the iPad as well e.g. via the file sharing section at the bottom of the device's apps tab when connected to iTunes, via wifi, email, dropbox etc - they should be included in the backup, but it's best to have a copy of them outside of the backup just in case. You can then force a backup of the iPad by right-clicking the iPad 'Device' on the left-hand side of iTunes and selecting 'Backup'.
Then start the update by selecting the iPad on the left-hand side of iTunes, and on the Summary tab on the right-hand side clicking the Check For Updates button

trying to update 2 ipods but when I go through the process it says "The ipod software update server could not be contacted" "Network connection could not be established". One of the ipods is locked and I don't remember password.
Here's what you can do in case of the forgotten password:
Connect in recovery mode and restore, you'll get the option to rest the passcode during this process:

If you cannot remember the passcode, you will need to restore your device using the computer with which you last synced it. This allows you to reset your passcode and resync the data from the device (or restore from a backup). If you restore on a different computer that was never synced with the device, you will be able to unlock the device for use and remove the passcode, but your data will not be present. My iMac will not boot up after a software update. the screen is all whute will show a grey apple in the middle and will look like it is working but nothing happens; this can go on forever.
Does anyone have any suggestions?Do you have a backup in the form of a bootable clone or Time Machine? Restore that and then try the update again.

Its most important to make sure itunes is updated, any security software is disabled, and to try another usb port/cord (if using itunes on a computer)

Hold down both the power button and the menu button for at least 60 seconds. Don't worry about what the phone is doing, it's sounds like the update has bricked the phone. Thankfully, because you were updating using an official Apple update this isn't permanent.
Once you have held the buttons down for 60 seconds make sure you've installed the latest version of iTunes. Restart your computer and wait until it is loaded, open iTunes and plug in your device using the Apple USB Lightning Cable, Select your device and choose restore.
When restoring, don't choose from a backup (You can do this later, we just need to get your device back to the state it was in when it left the factory i.e. working!)
Let the restore run. Note: when restoring from a bricked state it usually takes three times longer to restore than when doing a normal restore so let it just get on with it (Shouldn't take any longer than 3 hours)
When this is done, set up your device again and log in using your iCloud account.
Once done, check the phone is working. If it isn't there is a hardware fault which maybe resolvable by the Apple Genius Bar so make an appointment. If they can't get it working they will replace it there and then, provided your device is registered to your Apple ID. -
