Software Update utility quits trying to get a list of available updates

Hello.
Internet connection through ethernet ADSL modem.
Yes, I can download updates directly from Apple support pages
manually, but I don't know exactly what updates do I need (not only for System, for other software also).
Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

But all checkboxes (Airport, Ethernet, ....) are already checked.
Is it an option to manually download 10.4.4 Combo Update from Apple and hope that automatic update will work in 10.4.4? I don't like false hopes

Same here. Just becoming a nightmare. Updated iTunes and now can't update apps it itself is showing as available updates. Count me in on the latest "You can not update this software since you have not owned the major version of this software." bug.
Next I have to post about a new problem in iPhoto on a new thread.... it lost the "link" between some but not all photos I have in the library and what it itself posted to FaceBook a few hours ago...

Going from iPhoto v 8.x.x to V 9.x.x is called an upgrade and requires the purchase of iPhoto 9.
To go from v 8.1 to v 8.1.2 is an update and is free.

No, content remains unless you specify something like an erase and install. It is always a good idea to make a backup before updating just to have more protection.

The list of possible selection you see can be from diferent sources
1) Search helps defined either programatically or search helps defined at table level.
If it is a Z Selection screen check the program, then the data declaration of the parameter
2)Check tables provided at field level. They can be through use of foreign keys. The proposal generated could be simple compund ..
3) Fixed values at Domain level ()

Must point out that this is the first time I have ever tryed to update my iPad, other than when I got it started at the store where I abought it.
This is what is happening to me. the PC is on and I have3 the Itunes on the screen but as soon as I plug in my iPad my PC seems to think that it is a digital still camera and emediatly starts suting down as it seems to think the iPad(digital camera) is going to harm my PC. iOS 7 apparently requires at least 512MB of RAM. The fourth generation iPod touch only has 256MB, and therefore won't get it.

Update process quits at 51%, get an update failed message

My OS is Mac OS 10.8.4
When I click update (e.g for Photoshop) in the Creative Cloud vertical box I get when I click the blue swirly thing, it stops at 51% and another box pops-up. I get the message "There was a problem updating Photoshop CS6, Update Failed, Errors encountered during installation.(U44M1P7)"
I actually have 4 updates: Flash Professional, InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop, and ALL stop at around 51% when I click update

After downloading 6.0 continue to receive a crash message below when opening the broswer; tried to unintall & reinstall, ran all available updates and plug ins. I have also read all the FAQs and tried those. How do I get the new version to work?

Upon updating to firefox 6, I get the error message "cannot update because 'libsmime3.dylib' is in use" Now firefox cannot start because it is partially updated and non-functional.

Firefox fails to open, now that it has been partially updated. Initially, it asked to replace the old firefox, which then proceeded to the next step when this appears: "cannot update because 'libsmime3.dylib' is in use". I have quit all applications and restarted, trying to run the install again as the first thing when the computer comes up. Mac version is OS X 10.5.8.
