Software Update wont complete

Hi i have just installed Leopard and went straight to software update to make sure everything was up to date. Now there was a whole lot of updates so i just selected everything and left it to download everything and update. Most of them worked fine however Garageband, Itunes and Quicktime dont seem to work. They all say that they are partialy downloaded but when i try to finish downloading them it sit there doing nothing for a while and then comes back with an error saying -
A networking error has occurred: timed out (-1001). Make sure you can connect to the Internet, then try again.
I am connected to the net and have tried restarting the computer and what not numerous times.
any ideas?

Welcome to Apple Discussions:
A general rule of mine is never never install more than one update at a time. For several reasons.
First, if one goes bad, you just don't know where you are.
Second, I don't trust computers to figure out all those installs in the right order, especially those that require a reboot.
Since you just installed Leopard, I suggest a reinstall and then updating one thing at a time.
There are probably ways to fix what happened, but you would never know if something is wrong, and since it's a new install, and I presume your original OS is backed up, just redo it.

No - I'm on 10.6.8 and it functions normally, though there are now very few actual updates. If there are no updates the progress bar should still complete in around 3 minutes and announce that there are no updates, so you've got something hanging somewhere. If it's still stuck hit command-option (alt)- escape, select Software Update and hit Force Quit. You could try it again (I should reboot first) in case it's a one-off glitch, but if it still sticks force quit it again.
The best suggestion I can offer is to apply the combo updater anyway in the hope that it may over-write whatever is causing the problem.

  • The Deploy Software Updates Wizard completed with errors - Access is Denied

Hello, I am trying to download some updates that were synced up to the SCCM's database from another WSUS server. I am not able to get it done because the wizard fails with the access is denied error. I checked patchdownloader.log file and saw Error code
= 5  which means access denied. I tried to change permissions on the "updateservicespackages" folder within the folder, and I have full NTFS permissions for system, administrators, and read only permissions for everyone. Same thing goes for
the share permissions. My account is in the administrators group. The only way I can get it to work is by granting full permissions to "everyone", but that cannot be security friendly. Which account is "Deploy Software Updates Wizard" using
so that I can properly give it the required rights?

    Hi,
You could have a look at the thread below. Lucas used ProcMon that shows an access denied with the user which he was using.  Permission via group wasn't enough. Give your user full share/security access and everything works fine.

  • Software update wont work.

My laptop wont update to 10.5.8. After downloading it through Software Update I get the following error:
The update “Mac OS X Update” can’t be saved.
The digital signature for this package is incorrect. The package may have been tampered with or corrupted since being signed by “Apple”.
I get the same error for other updates, not just the OS update.
    Any advice?

I have tried resetting my permissions. I also tried downloading the update from the apple website and it gave me the following error:
Operation could not be completed. (com.apple.installer.pagecontroller error -1.)
    Couldn't open "MacOSXUpd10.5.8.pkg".

Post subject: NSURLErrorDomain error -1100 in OS X 10.8
If you check for software updates using the App Store in OS X 10.8 and get "NSURLErrorDomain error -1100" the problem may be with your Software Update preferences. This is particularly likely if you were using a custom Apple Software Update server. To solve the problem, quit the App Store, move the following two files (if present) to the trash, restart, and only then rerun App Store updates:
    /Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist
    /Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist.lockfile

  • Reformatted Computer but Software Updates Wont Install

I just took my macbook pro to the apple store yesterday and they said there was a software issue and they wiped out the whole computer. I got it back and reinstalled the applications disc and did a software update but it wont install. The error message says that the files could have been corrupted during downloading and it will check for updates the next time around....i tried about 3 times and the same result. any suggestions?

Which application discs and software updates are you writing about? Are these 3rd-party apps or the Apple supplied ones? Are the updates from the Software Update program? Did you try checking SU out at the store? Do you have a bootable backup./clone or Time Machine backup of your previous installation? Many missing details.

  • Software updates not completing

    Hi
I have tried for the last couple of months now to update software via Software update. it never completes the update, always says that the image could not be created or something in those lines.
Some of the programs like iTunes have updated themselves but the global stuff and MacOS doesn't do that.
have tried third party download of OS but the server times out apparently.
Help! I am 2 gig in updates behind and If i waste another 2 gig in cap and again and again and the software still doesn't install I am going to...... I don't know yet.

    Hiya,
I get this occasionally and I quit (or force quit) software update and do it again. On a couple of occasions, it was firewall related (as comms failed with receiving / sending info). If you are missing updates you could do a workaround:
Open system prefs/software update and click the tab "installed updates"
    http://i530.photobucket.com/albums/dd348/hornybloke/applesoftwareupdate.jpg
    you could go to http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/
and compare if you are missing anything.
(the installed updates vary from system to system depending on the Apple software installed.

  • Software updates wont download

Help. What am I supposed to do when my computer wont download my software updates but the mac sight says when your computer in having problems try software updates. if you have suggestions please help save me the trouble of taking it to the Apple Store

Make sure your internet connection is solid, and restart your computer before trying again. It's a bit of a superstitious addition, but if I'm having trouble with a program I also make sure nothing else is running that isn't necessary.

  • Software update  - cant complete

    hey,
im trying to do a software update, from 10.6.4 to 5, i've just recentley bought my mac, so its a hugh update(680 MB). if i get to the end of the download ( it takes a long time, and at sometimes breaks in the middle,.it takes forever to expand and unload the file, and every time cant complete it, says there is an error.
and everytime starts the download again (doesnt it save it anywhere?)
i know it sounds loose, but still, it just won't do it
    any ideas?
    thanx
    Omri

Sounds like your internet connection isn't good enough to download the whole thing. I've never gotten an update to restart in the middle of the download.
Are you using Software Update or downloading the file from the Apple Downloads site? If only one of those, give the other a try.

  • Safari doesnt work and software update wont open

i have os x 10.3.9 and my safari doesnt work anymore, as well as software update. does anybody know how to install it back onto the computer from the os cd? or where can i download safari 1.3 (full version)? the apple web site does not have it, it only has updates.

Try deleting the com.apple.Software update plist from Home/Library/Preferences. Safari can be reinstalled from your install disk. It may be listed under optional installs or custom installs. Safari 1.3 is terribly out of date and will crash on many sites. A better alternative is Camino which has the look and feel of safari and is quite stable.

  • Third party software updates wont open on leopard

I've recently downloaded two or three third party software updates (Neooffice and VMware fusion examples). After the large downloads disk utility seems to mount a disk image successfully after which you usually get a new page containing a 'upgrade software' yellow and orange cube, a read me file and an uninstall option. When I double click the 'upgrade software' cube it starts to expand as if its going to do something and then nothing, nothing at all ! Normally on Tiger hitting this update cube will initiate the upgrade but on my Leopard I seem to be drawing a blank on third party software. The apple software updates seem to function correctly.
    Any ideas ?

I would first try redownloading the software updates. If that fails, I would make a backup of your system with Time Machine and do a clean install of Mac OS X, though I really don't think this is a system issue.

  • MacMini 10.7.5 software update never completes

Had several updates and initiated update.
Eighteen (18) hours later a gray cloth-like screen persisted with a single window device open.
Window has an open carton / box, upper left, a status bar with NO progress, message: "The computer will restart automatically".
No keys respond but to beep.
Power and network remained on over night.
    Finally did power off-on reboot.
    Same screen returned.
    Four hours later, NO CHANGE.
Need advice / link on where to go to recover my 10.7.5 M-Mini.

Boot into recovery mode and reinstall the OS, then try Software Update again.

  • Software Updates wont install - it just reboots when try to

    Hi!
Suddenly after no problem since 2007 I have this issue that when updates are presented via Software Updates, those updates that i have to click on "restart" button, wich loggs me out and then the updates supposed to install - but! Before they install the system just reboots as if the updates couldnt install and then my Mac just reboots. So for a time now i have to install the updates manually, wich is annoying.
Anyone heard of this before? Tried to repair permissons but no luck

Repair permissions is in Applications -> Utilities -> Disk Utility under the First Aid section. You have to select the hard drive icon within Disk Utility to get Repair permissions to be possible to select. Most updates don't need it. Occasionally when you install new software issues may arise that make permissions go bad, which affects future software updates. This is the pitfall of using any third party software that most users learn about. It might never progress because of permissions, or a hard disk that is too full, or a corrupt download if you don't have high speed internet to get it from.
