Software Updater V1.3.40en- Next button greyed

Upgrading N80(RM-92) from 4.0632.0.38, I get told that new software update is available, but the update button is greyed.
I have downloaded and installed latest versions of PC suite and software updater.
Any suggestions as to what the problem is?

Feeling a bit stupid - I missed the confirmation box at the top of the form!

  • HT4623 When I go to settings general, there is absolutely no option on screen that says "software update". Where to next?

Unsure how to update, as of course I need it to run certain apps. My I pad has never prompted me to do so either.

If you have an iPad 1, the max iOS is 5.1.1. For newer iPads, the current iOS is 6.1. The Settings>General>Software Update only appears if you have iOS 5.0 or higher currently installed.

If you are currently running an iOS lower than 5.0, connect the iPad to the computer, open iTunes. Then select the iPad under the Devices heading on the left, click on the Summary tab and then click on Check for Update.
Tip - If connected to your computer, you may need to disable your firewall and anitvirus software temporarily.  Then download and install the iOS update. Be sure and backup your iPad before the iOS update. After you update an iPad (except iPad 1) to iOS 6.x, the next update can be installed via wifi (i.e., not connected to your computer).

  • Help-eMac froze during software update and is now stuck on Grey Screen!

So I recently moved, and was updating the software on my eMac. While it was updating, I was looking through some photos(probably my first mistake). When I tried opening one torwards the end of the update, my computer froze up. I waited a few minutes for it to resolve but ended up resetting the computer by holding down the power switch(second mistake?). When I restarded the computer, all I got was a grey screen. Now I'm stuck and don't know what to do. Can someone out there help me? I can't find my restart disc and tried the command,option,p,r-trick.
    thanks for your time,
    Andrew

    MingusBass,
    Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
Ouch. As you've already discovered, running anything else while a system or security update is running is not a good idea. If you use the power button to force-restart a Mac while it's still at the "optimizing system" stage, stalled or not, it can damage the Finder and the startup manager / login items (e.g., leave the previous version marked .old without finishing 'blessing' the new copy).
Is it possible to borrow a second Mac with the same OS / security version, or a bootable external hard drive? It's possible to boot a Mac that crashed while optimizing the system in FireWire target disk mode and replace the damaged files (bear in mind, I say that as an interested observer at work several years ago and I can't swear I remember each and every step, other than replacing a Finder.old in the System folder).
You really need your OS X Install disc, which would let you do an Archive and Install. I'm doubtful if booting into single-user mode to run the Unix file system check utility fsck would help but you can always try it.

  • After software update, my Mac Pro 13 has grey screen, spinning but won't re-boot

After update my Mac Pro 13 will not reboot. Grey screen, spinning icon but nothing I tried works.

If your computer is stuck restarting, hold the Power button to turn off your MacBook Pro and turn it on again. As the installation finished previously, nothing will get damaged

  • ICal dysfunctional after software update

I have seen that this is a common problem, but I have not seen a solution that works for my exact situation so far, so I'm hoping this thread may help. Sorry if the thread feels too redundant for you.
I have done a software update yesterday. The next time I used the computer, right after the restart at the end of the update, I had problems with iCal. Symptoms:
-No calendars, no To Do Lists (I have no other data such as alarms)
    -Cannot add new calendars
-Mini month stuck at January 2001
-Most menu items, including Preferences, greyed out
    -Quit doesn't work
I have seen the common solutions regarding the files under library/preferences and library/application support. Removing the preferences files did not do anything. There is no iCal folder under application support. (Is there a chance that they would have gone to Trash by themselves? I did see a full trash and emptied it.) I also cannot locate the calendar files. Finder does not find anything when I search .ical, .ics or .ifb.
I would say that I somehow lost my calendar files and start from scratch, but the application itself is not functioning, either, so whether or not my old data survived, I have a problem. What would be a good approach? Is there a way to reinstall iCal, maybe?

I am having the exact same problem and I've tried the same solutions to no avail. I see comments on forums going back years on this issue but Apple doesn't seem to have figured out a solution. I embarked on this because I wanted to sync my blackberry with Ical. I expected to blackberry to be the source of my problems - not Ical

  • IPhoto 6.0.6 need to be updated to.. 6.0.6 (according to "Software Update")

I have the latest version of iPhoto (6.0 .6 (322)), but "Software Update" keeps on showing iPhoto Update Version 6.0.6 is availible. When I try to download the update it says "Sorry, an unexpected error occurred. The Installer package has been moved to the Trash. To try again, open the package from the Finder." When I try to install the package it says "Please try installing again." What can I do to make the Software Update see I already have to newest version of iPhoto? Thanks in advance for u'lls time and help!

Check you your HD/Library/Receipts folder to make sure you have the iPhoto_606.pkg file. If it's not there then that's why Software Updater thinks it hasn't been updated. If its not there try downloading the standalone package and reinstall it. That should put the .pkg file in that folder for Software Update to see the next time.

  • Software update just doesn't work either way!what should i do?

hi everyone!i go to system preferences-then software update-then i push the button check now and while it's checking for updates, suddenly it stops and a message says that "the application system preferences stopped unexpectedly". i also try to update from the "software update" shortcut, but i get the same message. At the end i tried to update fron the apple site, the update downloaded, but when i tried to install it, it can't find a volume to install at my mac os.could someone help me please?I m using mac a while ago and maybe i m just doing something wrong.

Boot with your install disk, select your language, and, when the menu bar pops up, select Utilities->Disk Utility->repair the disk and permissions. Report back with any error messages. Once Disk Utility finishes, quit it, and select Utilities->Startup Disk->click on Restart.

  • Software update keeps providing updates

    Hello,
every time I update Java -the software update points to the next update. Why doesn't apple combine all necessary updates into a 1 time update per year instead of making it a never ending story?
Also, since I am happy with the feature set of the OS, I would like to filter out updates which do not enhance security/performance of the system. I mean, the CD that shipped was actually the fastest version of OS avalable and every update seems to slow down the system.
    thanks

In case you thought you were speaking directly to Apple, you're not. We are users just like you. But the answer is this: updates are produced as they are needed, according to changing conditions.
I would like to filter out updates
Your choice completely. You know you can leave updates alone; you don't have to install them. In addition, you can go to Software Update, highlight the particular update you don't wish to see presented any longer, and from the Menubar, select "Ignore Update." I'm not on my 10.4.11 right now, but I assume it's the same.
Most of us using Tiger have just the opposite concern. Since Tiger, except perhaps for the occasional Safari/Webkit update, is no longer being supported by Apple, we welcome any new updates. There haven't been any Security updates for Tiger since early last Fall or late summer.
Are you being presented with a new Java update? The last time I looked, maybe two days ago, I saw nothing new.

  • HT4623 Software update button, where is it?

I am trying to update my ipad but in settings, general there is no software update button. Would do I do?
I think ios 5 would be the next install

Go back to the article you asked this question from, ignore the instructions for updating it wirelessly, scroll down, and follow those for updating it from iTunes on a computer.

  • Adobe CS5 Suite 'Updates...' button greyed out

    Hi all,
First of all, sorry if this is in the wrong section, couldnt see an Adobe Updates section anywhere.
Anyway, I have recently setup an Updates server for the school that I work at, all has gone well, until I today when I tried to test the Update server.
Basically, when I go to Help > Updates... the option is greyed out.  Obviously this causes problems becuase I would like to test the update server that I have setup...I have gone to a few computers and all of them have the same symptom.  I do remember disabling updates in our group policy deployed version of CS5, so I installed CS5 fresh from the CD source, which has no modifications by me - still no luck, button is still greyed out.
Is there something special I have to do 'activate' the updates button? On a similar note, the software is activated too...thought that may have been the problem, but it activates fine...
I'm sure there is a simple fix for this, but after a lot of google searching, I still have come up with 0 answers.
    Appreciate any help on this.
    Glen.

    Hi Glen,
I was having this same problem and came across your post.   I am running CS5 on Windows 7 Professional 32-bit.  I don't know if the cause of the problem is the same for you, but the way I resolved it was to right-click on the Photoshop CS5 icon and select "Run as Administrator".  If I don't do that, the "Updates" link in the Help menu is greyed out.
I'm not sure why this is happening, since my account is a member of the Administrators group.
    Regards,
    Jim K.
