Software Updater will not work under 10.4.3
I just installed Tiger 10.4.3 with no apparent problems save for one. But actually it was a problem under 10.4.2 as well. The problem is that when I click on Software Update in Preferences and I click to check for nothing happens other than the progress bar shows about 20% completion and never any more than that. I can stay up for an hour and nothing changes. This is occuring on a G5 with plenty of RAM and no other problems that I can determine. I updated my G4 to the same OS X version and did an update using software updater just fine. And I can update from an eMac running 10.3.9.
I had to go to Apple's website and download the 10.4.3 updater in order to update my G5.
Any ideas about what is going on here?

I realized that it was not just my Software Update that was acting up, I had several other applications acting up in the same way. I did a bunch of reading (support articles in this site, this forum, other forums), and determined I needed to do an Archive and Install. Nothing else I tried fixed my problems. After the Archive and Install, I manually applied the 10.4.11 Combo update, and now everything is working fine.

4s with latest software update will not power off, text will only vibrate, iPod only works with earphones. When I sync it with iTunes it works until power save mode starts, then back to not powering down, making text sounds, or playing iPod out loud.
The Basic Troubleshooting Steps are:

Safari is not working on the Mac. Internet is fine. mail, App Store etc all working and connecting to Internet fine. Done the latest software update, still not working. When selecting a web address from bookmarks or typing in search bar, partial blue bar only and coloured wheel appears.
From the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences ▹ Extensions
Turn all extensions OFF and test. If the problem is resolved, turn extensions back ON and then disable them one or a few at a time until you find the culprit.
If you wish, you may be able to salvage the malfunctioning extension by uninstalling and reinstalling it. That will revert its settings to the defaults.
If extensions aren't causing the problem, see below.

How do I download IOS5 onto a first generation ipad? Software Update does not appear under General in Settings on the first generation ipad.
The Settings > General > Software Update option only appears when you have iOS 5+ installed, if you have iOS 4 then you will need to do the update via your computer's iTunes.
Connect the iPad to your computer's iTunes and copy any purchases off the iPad to your computer via File > Transfer Purchases. You may also want to copy photos and any important documents off the iPad as well e.g. via the file sharing section at the bottom of the device's apps tab when connected to iTunes, via wifi, email, dropbox etc - they should be included in the backup, but it's best to have a copy of them outside of the backup just in case. You can then force a backup of the iPad by right-clicking the iPad 'Device' on the left-hand side of iTunes and selecting 'Backup'.
Then start the update by selecting the iPad on the left-hand side of iTunes, and on the Summary tab on the right-hand side clicking the Check For Updates button

IPOD Software Updater- "Restore" not working
The IPOD software updater will not allow me to restore my Nano.
Both the update and restore buttons are not "active". The updater prompts me to plug in my Nano and automatically attempts to update my Nano which isn't necessary since there's no new update.
This caused the "Do not disconnect" message to appear for a long time until I turned it off.
Any thoughts, suggestions...would be very much appreciated!

Let me go into the details...
My wife and I just received our new Nanos. Her's has been exhibiting strange behaviour so I have tried to restore.
On her latop, the latest iPod Updater did not at first 'see' the Nano whereas on my laptop, it sees the Nano and starts to restore then stops when the progress bar gets to the 'd' of "iPod". I have had to force quit and try again and each time it gets fo far and stops.
By putting the Nano into Disk Mode, I can get my wife's laptop to "see" the Nano and, once again, it stalled at exactly the same spot. I force quit the update and tried and again... and it worked this time!
The only difference this time was that I was holding the Nano in my hand. I can see no reason why this would be relevant unless the connector had been ever so slighty lose, though this is a long shot.
So, I am back to having 2 functioning Nanos... for now!

Software updates do not appear under Updates
Software updates do not appear under Updates in the Mac App Store. So far, I have not been able to select or install the newest Yosemite update (10.10.1) and the latest iTune update. What could be the problem? Third party software shows and will update, like Evernote, but Apple branded updates do not appear.

Update to 10.4.4 now software update does not work
Updated using the standalone installer and now Software Update will not launch, although I can run it from the Preference pane. Tried repair permissions. Ran cron scripts. Ran the combo update. Still no luck. Any ideas. Thanks.

Confusing because they contradict each other. Where are you trying in the failed instance? From the About this Mac menu item? Please be a bit more specific. If my assumption is correct, then create a new admin user account, log into it, and see if it works there. Report back. -

When you've installed SL it will be 10.6.3. You need to update that to 10.6.8 with the combo installer from http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399 - that gives you access to the Mac App store.
Lion is only available by phone also - same number and they'll give you a download code to use in the Mac App Store.
If you're going to Mountain Lion you don't need to install Lion first - you can do it straight from Snow Leopard 10.6.8.

Often due to prior copies and cache of those on your system.
Some you have to uninstall but it will leave behind files and folders that then have to be manually removed.
Clone Windows just in case.
Run chkdsk
Cleanup
Use CCleaner or similar and repair the Registry might help too.
I just did a clean install Windows 10 Preview, and the one app I most feared installing installed and seems to be fine, iTunes 12.01+

i think at this point we are unsure if the problem is that apple has once again decided to leave something older in the dust (as they've been doing a LOT lately) or that you've found a bug in itunes 11 that will be addressed at a later date. just how old are these ipods? if they were mine and i had to choose between itunes 11 and my ipods i would choose my ipods. right now i would look around the itunes forums and see if anyone else has this problem.

Widgets, Safari, Software Update -- All not working since I got Comcast
My Dashboard, Safari and Software Update have not worked since I got Comcast internet. I'm pretty sure their installer screwed up something, but I don't know how to undo it. Firefox, Adium, Mail and other internet applications all work great.
I tried to fix the Software Updater problem a while ago and was able to get it to see what is available (by adding swquery.apple.com to the sites that bypass proxy settings), but it still refuses to download anything.
I can't help but think there's one thing that's causing all this trouble. Any thoughts?You can have up to 5 computers authorized at one time with iTunes. There's no reason to deauthorize until you want to go over the limit. You can do this once a year. Do a clean install of the OS on the mac you are selling.

Firefox updates will not work 100% after using it for about 8 months
Since I use FireFox for 8 months every standard update will not fully install. So I always have to cancel the question to reach or become the Home website.
Last moth and sometimes before I couldn't reach it for hours...although I started up again and again my computer or try to exe the downloaded version again and again...well i kinda fixed it i spose...
i deleted everything in appdata under mozilla & macromedia and deleted the plugins folder from my installation folder for ff3. uninstalled ff3, reinstalled ff3. now everything works fine. just have to redo my bookmarks & settings.
sorry to waste anyone's time...but hopefully if someone else has the problem, now they can fix it. peace. -

Download and run Nokia PC Suite Cleaner - then download and run Nokia PC Suite then download and run Nokia Software Updater.
