Software updates after master reset?
Hi there,
I am about to use the original disc to reset my Mac Book to the original factory settings. Given that I purchased my Mac Book earlier this year and I have been done more than 10 software updates since purchase. My question is, after I reset my Mac Book, how do I repeat all the updates or do I simply need to do so?
Thanks for your time.
DC boy
Hello
After the reinstall, just click your blue apple and choose "software update". You have to have an internet connection of course... Your computer will be checked to see what updates are available. If it has been awhile, you will most likely have several downloads. They will be presented with titles and descriptions of the updates. Select the ones you want and download them!
And you are current!
hope that helps

Cannot Install Software Update after a Clean Install
I did a clean install of 10.5. I ran the initial Software Update and proceeded to install all the available updates including Version 10.5.4. I installed some software and later did another Software Update check. There were 2 more updates available.
Java for Mac OS X 10.5 Update 1 adds support for Java SE 6
Security Update 2008-005 (Leopard)
I rebooted the iMac as requested and the Software Update window appeared. I checked both updates and proceeded. The progress bar proceeded about 1/8 of the way with the message Installing 2 items.... Configuring Installation. This appeared to hang there and I left it running overnight. When I looked at it again, the progress bar had not moved. I then tried each one separately, still using the Software Update. Same problem only that the Java update showed the progress bar 1 / 2 the way and is hanging there.
I verified the disk and it was okay. I have used the iMac for almost 2 years and have never had a problem with the Software Update.
Here is the last entry in the install log which seems to indicate the install was done, but the Software Update Window is still there with the "Installing 1 Item" message and I cannot stop the process or force quit it.
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

I should have said I resolved the problem that I had. The solution to the problem was to do a manual download of the updates. That worked without a hitch and while solving the immediate problem did not help me understand why automatic updates failed to properly install the identical files.
a brody
It is a relatively new iMac purchased from Apple in early 07. Yes, it was a a Retail Version of OS X 10.5 that I purchased when I upgraded 10.4, I have seen this problem many times in Windows, but never experienced it in the almost 2 years of mac usage. I guess I am not the only one having problems as there is a similar post made several hours after mine. -
Strange issue here. I did the update from iOS 6 to iOS 7, after I did the update, I noticed my synced music has just a random photo of the artist / group, that seems to be downloaded from the iTunes sites, because these pictures of the artist/group is not my album artwork.
I did a master reset on my device because I wanted to start from a clean slate, and set it up as a new phone. I went through and adjusted all of my settings and synced my music back on via iTunes, now its not showing these pictures any longer, infact, the strangest issue of them all.. is now when I view artists, the album that I synced now has a complete different album artwork picture that is not related to that album.
I am at a loss, my iTunes is extremely organized, I have everything configured to be 100% accurate for track names, artist, album, and album artwork.
Anyone have any input here? It only screwed up after the reset I did. This has to be a bug or something.SiMooew469: Thank you! After countless wasted hours messing with this, your solution was the only one that worked! After setting up a few phones "as new" I noticed all the artist images would appear (for those that have one) even with my Match turned on. I could not duplicate it on my restored-from-backup iPhone5S, as I would get a mix of the images and album art, even for those artists that have profile photos on the as-new setups. I couldn't afford to lose all my text messages, etc. that come with restoring a phone as-new, so I tried about everything else under the sun: I tried logging in-and-out of my Apple ID, toggling Match on-and-off, I even deleted iTunes_control folder using iExplorer on a Windows machine. Nothing worked.
Here's what finally did:
If you don't have it set this way already, toggle "Group By Album Artist" in Settings->Music. For some reason that makes a difference for some artists in your library that appear when album artist is set to "Various Artists" or something other than the track's artist. Logout of your Apple ID. Log in with any other Apple ID. Open the Music app and watch all the artist images load in the Artisits tab. Once it is done, logout of the other Apple ID and login with your regular Apple ID. Finally, all the artist images will remain. Those artists that do not have a profile photo with iTunes will still show album art, which is by design. Hopefully Apple will keep updating that database.
Incidentally, it's a bit odd that those profile photos don't appear in the Artists view in iTunes 11...or am I the only one? -
Issues with Applications - Software Update after ...
Hi,
I recently decided to reset my phone cause I thought it was getting slow. I have the latest firmware installed and have had the free navigation software installed since it was released. After i reseted the phone I wanted to install the latest and free navigation software so I choose Applications -> Software Update but there are no updates available for any software.
When i reseted the phone i did it by using the method when pressing the power button+shift+space+back space if this is of interest.
Hopefully someone can help me...I really want the navigation software installed.

Safari 4 missing from Software Update after fresh install of OS X?
This seems a little odd...
I recently reset my unibody MacBook Pro with a fresh install of OS X 10.5.6 but, after restarting and going to Software Update, Safari 4 is not showing up in the list of available updates! Version 3.2.1 gets installed but doesn't show any updates? It did last week, but now it's gone?
I know I can download it without using Software Update, I just thought it was strange that it didn't show up. Anyone else noticed this?Hi

Recover apps on symbian 60 v5 after master reset?
I have a Nokia nuron 5230. After a master reset can you recover the apps you had installed before? The memory card still shows the same free space, so the apps are still there somewhere, I jsut can't find them through the file organizer yet
I don't think I backed them up, unelss the phone does that automatically?
I had a bunch of stuff, like opera mobile. I know I can get them back from ovi store, but I wanted to see if there was a way to restore it without having to reinstall and set them up all over again.
There is also the issue of memory. When I did a master reset, the memory card contents did not seem to change. So that means I have a lot of unusable files on there? If I reinstall the apps will the go to the same folder and replace the old files? I want to be efficient with my memory usage.
I just installed x-plore and found some hidden folders in (E:\resource\apps and e:\system\apps). Including the opera mobile folder. But I didn't find some games. Where would java games be held? Also, these folders only have like 5 mb of memory, I'm looking for like 100+ mbs of stuff. I usualyl install apps through nokia pc suite. Does it download the .sis files to a temporary file somewhere and then install the apps? -
I have tried all of the options in your support pages . I am not getting emails in order to reset my email. I did a master reset and it still tells me that my "new" email is in use. I do not get emails regarding recovery key change because the email stays the same . I can log in to your normal support page and I have just changed that password - that worked . . I assume that this password is not my master one . . When I did a master reset, where do I go or what do I do after that??
Struggling now for several hours . . .This page does not help . . When I try to get a new key, it asks for me to log in - email address ok, but incorrect password. Request new password . . no email back to enable me to re-set.
I have tried a master reset . . that does not help either . . -
Freeze while updating after retoring, resetting, charging etc etc
itunes didn't recognize ipod and !folder showed on ipod screen. After charging, resetting, & restoring, I got a disk insertion message. I erased disk and could then import songs to ipod and play songs, but as ipod was mid update of itunes library it froze. Continues to freeze on random songs even updating manually. Did I miss a step? Or does my ipod need work?
You know,
I'm on my second ipod now. I purchased my last one in late December of 2004. By March, Apple had to replace that one. Now, the replacement that they had sent me is freezing to the point of not functioning. 1 year is PATHETIC for a $300 dollar product. However, I NEED an mp3 player. I couldn't live without one. Am I going to buy another ipod...I don't know. I can understand the battery needing to be replaced, but total failure within such a short period of time is atrocious! When I contacted Apple, I was told that there is nothing that can be done, and that, next time, I should buy the AppleCare. So, for $60 more, I'll have my purchased replaced for 2 years. Because it sure won't last that long. That is not acceptible! -
I am trying to download software update. After finishing download, I get message statng cannot authenticate or save. Help!!!
Means the DL is corrupt and you need to try again. If from the MAS, try from http://support.apple.com/downloads/

Software updates after Disaster Recovery
Hey..
i hope someone can help me. After a SAN failure we had to reinstall/recover our SCCM 2012 SP1 (most roles on one machine, there are 2 SUP Roles - primary SUP is on a remote DMZ Server and secondary SUP is on the SCCM itself).
I had the Default SCCM but no Fileservice Backup. The Database was not affected.
So i reinstalled the Server from Scratch, configured the prereqs like iis, wsus wds etc. and started the revovery wizard. Everything went fine and the restore was successful. Because of the missing Fileservice Backup i redistributed all content back
to the DP. So now nearly everything is working again but the software update are driving me crazy.
Even if i create a new update package and deployment the Update does not arrive on the client. To get our SCEP Clients up2date i created an auto approval rule for scep definitions on the wsus and this is working. So only Updates deployed through sccm are
not working.
The Client sees the Update as "missing" in UpdateStore.log but never starts downloading or asking for a location. The UpdateDeployment.log says "no service window" but the deployment is set to ignore maintenace window. I can not find
any other importand errors.
In CCM_Messaging.log there is a "WINHTTP_CALLBACK_STATUS_FLAG_CERT_CN_INVALID" message but IIS Logs on the Server says the 2nd attempt after the error is OK and as described before everything else is working.
Here are some logs:
https://skydrive.live.com/redir?resid=6B65DBF2183A9C27!173&authkey=!ANDa-M-KDSNGez8
My last idea is to reinstall all Update related components but i am not sure if this will help.
regards
PhilippYes, I know this is an old post, but I’m trying to clean them up. Did you solve this problem, if so what was the solution?
Since no one has answer this post, I recommend opening a support case with CSS as they can work with you to solve this problem.

Software Updates after lion install?
After Installing Lion, my computer ran a software update check. After the updates, imovie and garage band did not work. So I tried the update again and clicked show details, it listed imovie and garage band updates, there is a check box next to them, but I can't click the check box. So right now imovie and garage band remain broken. Any thoughts?
try restarting the computer and the selecting software update from the apple menu, having no other apps open, and click install all, if any fail deselect them and do the other ones, restarting the and doing the ones tht failed after installing the ones that worked

Suhelperd crashes during Software update after HD recovery
Hallo All,
It started with Software update not being able to update. I had to repair my Hard Disk, and I ended up by using the recovery partition to clean the Hard Disk. I'm back by reloading the latest available backup from Time Capsule. The software update dialog says all software is up to date now.
I would like to know I'm not running into any future problems and checked the system log. Quite a few failes show up, including suhelperd crashing. Does this mean any more problem(s)?
Thanks,

I have OS Lion and went to Software Update to get the latest iTunes 10.4.1 (currently running 10.4 64 bit). Software Update notifies me of the update, I click install, and then I agree to new terms....and that's all that happens. Software Update remains open yet idle, nothing is being downloaded and there isn't a progress window with blue indicator for the time remaining. I've tried several times, even switched to 32 bit version of iTunes to no avail. I've never had an update do this and am wondering if anyone else is having this issue.
I've thought to download iTunes 10.4.1 fresh from Apple (ie not through Software Update) but don't want to risk screwing up the iTunes that I currently have, which at least works.
Any ideas? I'd appreciate any and all suggestions.James Williams2 wrote:

nothing will be screwed up.
but, if it makes you feel better, do this:
download the iTunes standalone installer
reboot into safe mode
run a permission repair session using disk utility
run the installer
let the Mac reboot normally -
Help, cannot download software updates after HD erased!
Hello community,
Back story: I'm an ISM major, so I'm typically pretty good with computers. I've also played with some torrents and I understand the risks that come with them but I'm someone who does my research before downloading. Well, I have Leopard (running 10.6.3 currently) and obviously, I kept up to date all the way up to 10.6.8. However, I wanted to get Lion so I downloaded a copied version of the "App Store" version of OS X Lion. This is where the issue begins. I started downloading then in the middle of the download it says cannot continue, hard drive has an issue or has failed (something of that nature).
Issue: So, I erased my HD completely. It was the only option, especially since I lost my original Macbook Pro discs (2008 version Macbook). I erased it, even the Apple guy on the phone agreed that if I did this I should be good to go. Well, I'm not. I'm trying to get back to 10.6.8 so I can start recooping all my lost stuff but when it goes to download the combo update it always stops midway through saying "cannot connect to server" or "update may be corrupt," etc. I don't understand the issue...this may as well be a brand new computer again, no? I'm very computer savvy but this is just boggling my mind. I've searched hundreds of topics and nothing works. For the longest time I was getting "invalid checksum." SO, I erased my HD again, don't get that anymore, and now I'm back to the "update corrupt" issue.
Someone please help me, I'll be checking this every couple minutes all night. I couldn't get a Genius appointment until Thursday so I'm trying to just fix this myself.
PS: Everything works fine, I can download everything as usual, etc. I literally just cannot get any Apple stuff. I've even tried downloading it from the page to avoid the "Software Update App" and it still screws up.
Thanks!I have Leopard (running 10.6.3
Leopard is 10.5.x, 10.6.x is Snow Leopard.
I wanted to get Lion so I downloaded a copied version of the "App Store" version of OS X Lion
Wouldn't work even if it downloaded succesfully, Lion & up are internally keyed to UUIDs, Apple IDs, & more.
Try the 10.6.8 Update directly...
