Software Updates for Multiple iPhone Household

Why is it necessary to download the software updates separately for each individual iPhone? These downloads take over an hour each time on our high-speed internet connection. Is there no way to download the installer once and use for all phones? Doesn't seem like too much to ask...

Google for more precise directions, but I'm pretty sure that you can download the ipsw file manually, either via Apple Downloads or some third-party site.
And then I believe you Option-click on Update or Restore and can manually browse to the ipsw file you want to use.

Whilst synching to my PC it said there was a software update for the iPhone. It is now stuck with a message saying connect to iTunes. I've tried resetting it in various ways but it still comes back to Connect to iTunes, but it won't. Help!

How can I see up AppStore/Software Updates for multiple computers using the same account?

I have several computers in my household which all use the same App Store account for purchases & software updates. How can I view all those installs while not being in front of all computers?

Is it possible to download only Software Updates for multiple Macs.

We currently have two 24inch iMacs, a 15 inch and a 17 inch MacBook Pro and a MacBook and only have limited download speeds in our regional area and only 1 Gb of data download allowance a month. Is there any way we can "download only" software updates on one computer and transfer the update to the other systems in Snow Leopard, like we did in Leopard. This does not appear to be possible in Snow Leopard. For us to upgrade all computers to 10.6.5, we would blow our data allowance for 2.5 months. And this does not take into account all the other updates that are available for installed Apple software. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

well, one way of doing that is to get the stand alone installer packages from [here|http://support.apple.com/downloads>, then either mount the .dmg's from the other Mac(s) or copy the .dmg's over the network.
i actually prefer this over software download - i usually install new software while booted into _*safe mode*_.

Could you please tell me why there isnt a new software update for the iphone 3g latest being 4.2.1?
Surely when you invest in an iphone and at the cost of them Apple should always provide update so you can actually use/download the apps?

Because the hardware in the iPhone 3G is insufficient to run the newer features of the newer versions of iOS.

If you mean iOS, you can't. iOS 4.2.1 is the last version your iPhone will run.

You'll need to find apps that the developers have kept compatible with older versions of iOS and older iPhone hardware. Or buy a new, or newer, iPhone.

The chances that there will be any further updates to iOS for the iPhone 3G are vanishingly small.

I did the software update for my iphone 4s last night and now my incoming text messages show the person's phone number instead of their name when I get a text. Is there a fix to this so I can see their name and not try to guess who's number it is?
Also, after the update, Siri wouldn't call the people I asked to call. I even tried 3 different people. Fix?

Can't install iPhone 2.0 Software Update for iPod touch

I am trying to download the iPhone 2.0 Software Update for iPod touch from http://www.apple.com/ipodtouch/whatsnew.html so I can download apps for my new iPod touch. (Although it is pretty bogus that I should have to pay $10 for an upgrade on a brand new device so that I have the privilege to buy apps). I have iTunes 7.7 already installed.
When I click on the link https://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZFinance.woa/wa/touchLandingPage , I do not get a download, and iTunes does not open. Nothing happens if I open iTunes before trying this link either.
Instead, I get a brief page which says "One Momemt Please". Connecting to the iTunes Store. Loading... If iTunes doen't open, click the iTunes application in your Doc or Windows Task Bar" , then my browser is redirected to http://www.apple.com/itunes/affiliates/download/?itmsUrl=itmss%3A%2F%2Fphobos.ap ple.com%2FWebObjects%2FMZFinance.woa%2Fwa%2FtouchLandingPage%3Fign-mscache%3D1 which tells me to download iTunes... but I already have iTunes installed.
I installed (then uninstalled, reinstalled) the latest iTunes (7.7.0.43) and the problem persists. iTunes works fine for all other uses.
I have the problem with both Firefox (3.0) and Internet Explorer (6)
How can I download and install The iPhone 2.0 Software Update for iPod touch directly from iTunes? I cannot find it when I search for it. It is not listed in the App store.
(P.S. The web support form does not work when I tried to fill out a problem report for "Connection" issues. Although I filled in all form fields, it would not send the report, telling me I did not fill in a field.)

The upgrade now appears directly in iTunes, so I do not need to access it from the web page. I see many others are encountering problems installing the upgrade, so I'll see how it goes...
There is no answer to the initial problem that iTunes install does not configure the browsers to handle the itmss:// protocol.
I still think Apple should not charge for this for a brand new iPod purchased just this week.

Hopefully, you use a passcode to unlock your lock screen. It is that passcode that is required to update IOS. See Settings > Passcode.

Thank you for your reply, I did go to my general settings, but for some odd reason I don't have a restrictions setting, or a reset setting. I thought I could reset all the setting to see if it could be that, but as I said there aren't any.
My husband also has the iPad 2, and also did the software update and hasn't had any problems at all. I took both iPad's and compared the settings thinking maybe there could be a setting that could have been changed when the update was done.

but always to version 2.1, so I get a update, to the version I have.

That charge is for touch users who have not already purchased the 2.0 firmware. There is no charge for iPhone users. Can you throw that iPhone in my trash instead?

tried turning it off didn't work. tried pressing buttons didn't work.
tried unplugging it and waiting for the power to die hasn't worked
tried the steps on the webiste but they didn't work
tried working it from the laptop doesn't connect because i can't put in the passcode.
also tried calling iTunes support but due to the holiday no one is answering
