Software updates lead to nearly 10,000 "conflicting" calendar items

I installed the following software updates on Sept. 17: Mac OS X Update 10.5.5, Digital Camera Raw Compatibility Upd 2.2, Remote Desktop Client Update 3.2.2 and Front Row Update 2.1.6.
Ever since then, Conflict Resolver (iSync 3.0.2) keeps popping up with an increasing number of "conflicts" between my iCal (3.0.5) and Entourage 2008 for the Mac (12.1.2 (080729)) calendars. I never saw Conflict Resolver before I installed the above updates. Now I see it all the time. I've got almost 10,000 "conflicts."
I use iSync to sync my iPhone (not a G3).
I haven't run Conflict Resolver yet. I just keep telling it that I'll deal with this later. But I have been deleting duplicates that started showing up in Entourage. It seems that this ends up deleting the whole item, not just the seeming duplicate.
Has anyone had this problem? What can I do about it?

I'm sure it's not. Other third party developers are doing it. I think Apple is just leaving it up the third party developers for now. I use Bento for the Mac and iPhone and they showed screen shots of the iCal to do's database so I purchased it. Funny thing is the iCal Bento database is the only one that they don't allow you to sync to your iPhone/Touch. So someone at Apple is ****-bent on keeping the to do lists from happening.
Anyway if you're willing to buy an app to sync with iCal they have some pretty good ones. Macworld reviewed some of them and I went with 2Do.

I'd like to know how MAS 4.0 behave when the software required for its installation are updated : over the past few months my computer has acted more and more strangely, and in the end I couldn't even log into Windows. The ghost we made after the installation has just ended the same way this afternoon.
As I only have installed WinMerge on that computer, my own other apps were portable apps, I was wondering if software updates could lead MAS to make the system fail.
Here is the starting environment : Windows 2000 company master with SQL Server 2000, Lotus Notes 6.5, Java 1.4.2 (and IE 6)
Required for MSA are Lotus 5 and Java 1.3.5
- Notes 6.5 is uninstalled and replaced by Notes 5.
- Java 1.4.2 is uninstalled, left registry keys manually removed and Java 1.3.5 is installed.
- Installation of MAS + SPs + packages
- Notes 5 is uninstalled and replaced by Notes 6.5 (which, I think, updates java to 1.4.2)
So first, what is the impact of updated versions for MAS ?
Second, I think I saw the behavior becoming worse after some windows update, do you think it is possible, or it just made an existing problem bigger ?
The different problems I had were first a random crash from MSA when I had IE open (email webaccess). Then it almost crashed everytime. Then I could't even get into MAS when I had IE open, then the same with Notes.
Other things (don't remember the order) were :
- Couldn't launch any application when MAS was lanched (even "My Computer" properties)
- I had visual glitches with CRM, Notes and IE when they were running at the same time
- I couldn't run the project from the debug feature of MAS ("Could not access registry").
And this afternoon, when I logon, a message asking me to increase the registry size then reboot. Then I can see the desktop but can't do anything
Besides installing WinMerge (old version, installer only), I had on my usb key : Firefox portable, Miranda portable, Notepad++ Portable and in the end I also used winmerge directly form it.
What do you think about this ? Maybe there was just a flaw in the initial computer installation, or maybe MAS does really not like to have its initial requirements updated ?
At the moment I am having my computer re-installed, and they have changed their masters to Windows XP, Notes 6.5 and Java 1.4 (maybe 1.6).
Have requirements of MSA 4 changed, for installation on WinXP ?

Hi,
the installation of JRE (Java Runtime) or LN is not related to MAS directly but to an additional MSA installation. So their installation resp. update cannot have any impact on MAS.
I rather think that there might be a corruption of the Windows Installer Database which is used as a standard installation engine e.g. also for MAS.
I also can remember to have serious problems (always automatic start of Windows installer popup when trying to open MAS/MSA) some years ago on a customer MAS machine where windows updates were applied automatically.
Finally there was only the solution even to reinstall the complete OS.
Maybe you could check for microsoft tools like msicuu2.exe to uninstall the applications also from the installer database mentioned above.
By the way: Did you already check the hard disk resp. memory for failures?

Software update leads to freezing.

Ever since the latest software update, (which I used to ignore on my PCs), programs like Safari, iChat and Mail have been freezing. The force quits haven't been effective and I'm forced to shut down my MacBook Pro by holding down the power button.
Is there a way to fix this? I'm now worried about performing any software updates in the future.

and adopt the necessary habits to mitigate what happened to you. There's no good reason to be worried about updating as long as you properly plan for them.

Iphone 4 software update leading to sound problem?

I have a iphone 4 and after the software update 7.1, whenever I'm listing to music the slider where you control how loud it is vanishes from the screen and I can't hear anything I've tried turning it on and off that works for 5 minutes then it does it again, this also happens when I'm talking on the phone, or watching netflix. Try to reset the phone by holding the sleep and home button for about 10sec, until the Apple logo comes back again. You will not lose data by resetting, but it can cure some glitches after installing new software.

Failed software update leads to unresponsive eMac

My daughter was running Tiger OS 10.4.4 on her eMac and decided to run Software Update. Foolishly, as the update ran, she started up the new version of iTunes after that download was complete. Ever since then, the computer will not start up. All she gets is the white screen with the little scrolling circular thingy. I have inserted Disk Warrior in the CD tray and pressed the D key (tried the C key, too) but no dice. Starting up the computer with the option key down shows only the Hard Drive icon, so apparently it's not recognizing the CD/DVD drive. She also has an external hard drive which also is not showing up on the list of drives you would expect to see. Any advice about how to wake this computer up out of it's coma?

One common repetitive characteristic of this problem has been the inability of the computer to accept and boot from any media in the CD/DVD drive. I agree with your determination regarding technical assistance even though it may not fulfill your need for personal accomplishment.

8530 Desktop Manager Software Updated on 3/7/2013 killed my calendar link

Since January 2010, my then-brand new 8530 Curve synched perfectly and beautifully with my Outlook Express calendar. As of 3/7/2013, some automatic update to my Desktop Manager Software blew the whole thing up. Now, whenever I connect my Curve to my PC, the PC reboots. We can't even get an error message, the reboot is instantaneous.
Have checked everything else (promise), and I've had my computer geek (who is excellent and who built my computer and my network) and various other tech wizards all tell me the same thing: I need to get BACK to version 6.0.0 something something Desktop Manager software and download that back to my PC, then stop all automatic updates. They, and I, have collectively spent three full days trying to accomplish this, which led to this forum and all of you. PLEASE help!
Details: From my Blackberry, the following: 8530 v 5.0.0.1030 (Bundle 1675, Platform 4.2.0.451)
PC is Windows XP operated.
What else does anyone need to know? THANKS SO MUCH! In return, can talk horses and/or law for hours in one-to-one chats in gratitude!!

SUTITLE in Software Update

I have several clients running 10.4.11 and a server running 10.4.11. The clients are bound to the OD and set to grab their software updates from the server.
For some reason when I run software update on the clients they pull back several items that need to be updated but their title in Software Update is just SUTITLE. The file sizes show up differently but the titles for all updates in SUTITLE. Any idea what gives and what I need to do to correct this?

Software update not displaying status during install

So I ran the software update on my Mac Mini, it downloaded 7 items. One was the OS itself, which failed, but said it would retry. The download had a status bar the whole time and did get to the end. Now I think the other updates are being installed, but can't tell. There is no window telling me what it's doing. If I try to restart, it says that the update program stopped the restart.
Am I supposed to be seeing progress?
As I open the Software Update program, the menu at the top has mostly greyed out items.
What do you suggest that this new Mini user does?

Software Updates forces Mobile ME changes in ical

After running software updates, I have noticed that the ical calendars published to our on site "private server" has been broken/changed to "mobile me" and the private server information is now gone. Its very annoying (for me and our 250 users) to have to go back into the calendars and change it all back.
Are there any other settings that Mobile Me hijacks? This is a very Microsoft-ish move.

I guess you're all stumped then. The other thing I should mention is that my wife and I both have iphones both linked up to the same mobile me account so we can share contacts and calendars. That might have a baring on things might it not?

Apple Software Update for Windows will not download and update

When Apple Software Update for windows comes up, I select the items to update, I accept the eula, the bottom half of the window rolls up and rolls back down and nothing happens. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling Apple Software Update. If I download the updated individually (outside of Apple Software Update) they work fine

Try checking the rules in your firewall software. Is Apple Software Update being allowed full access to the internet?

Nokia 6730C - Software update mess up calendar and...

I went from a N95 that was flawless (but broke) to a 6730C and I'm a bit frustrated...
I have done 1 or 2 Softwre Updates and everytime it has messed up the phonebook and calendar...
My contacts are given multiple phonenumbers like mobile, home, work etc. After an update there is like 2 or 3 copies of each contact in the phonebook, some with all the phonenumbers, some with only home or mobile for example, some with NO numbers at all and so on... The last update copied and filled my phonebook with no less thatn 721(!) contacts
My calendar is synced with my computer at work and updated against Microsoft Outlook with no problems at all. But every Software update has deleted, changed or moved multiple calendar notes... For example it moved around 15 birthdays from different dates in the calendar to the 29th AND 31st of December...
It drives me crazy having to edit the phonebook and calendar manually every time I do a software update.
Any one else having these problems? Any tips or suggestions how to avoid these kinds of problems?

Error updating software on OL6.3 due to package conflict

Hi, noob here.
I recently installed OL6.3 (in a VirtualBox VM). The install went well.
However, when I try to update the OS via Software Update, I get an error as follows which prevents any of the 748 updates being applied.
Test Transaction Errors: file /lib/firmware/isci/isci_firmware.bin from install of kernel-firmware-2.6.32-279.9.1.el6.noarch conflicts with file from package kernel-uek-firmware-2.6.32-100.34.1.el6uek.noarch
Any ideas?

Software update conflict

I downloaded new OSX software update on Friday. Security update, and Java update.
Now my computer will not recognize my HP Scanjet scanner. Photoshop will not recognize it. The HP software freezes.
I've reinstalled the HP software and updates, no luck.
Any ideas how to regain scanning capabilities?

Check for a preference file in your user ~/Library/Preferences folder. I don't have an HP scanner, but there may be something left there that doesn't get updated. As a matter of fact, there could be lots of stuff around the computer that the installer may not replace. If it has an Uninstall function, try that--although the installers normally don't remove a preference file for some reason.
If not uninstaller, try finding all references to your hp scanner and remove them, then reinstall. Sometimes the installers leave a log file that you can use to find all of the parts.

So frustrated that updating software has lead to the most annoying issues I couldve avoided by NOT updating!!!!!!!!!!!!

I reallllllllllllllllllllllly wish someone could help me out with this. My contacts are not syncing with phone calls or text messages. Im only getting the phone# and when I try to add a contact from a text message that's already in my address book, it repeats the #, one under "mobile" and one under "iPhone". ***?!?! I'm never going to do a software update EVER AGAIN, how in the world does trying to help make your phone better make it worse?? I've tried the iCloud thing, I've tried turning it completely off then on again, I've tried just about everything I can think of and NOTHING is helping. I've made another appt. to speak with an Apple customer service rep, but got nowhere when I spoke with one yesterday. You also could try Firefox's Safe Mode.

Close Firefox and... hold the Shift key and restart Firefox. When you get the initial dialog, don't reset anything. More info:
