Software Updates Sync is slow

Hello,
We are seeing slow sync times for our 2012 SCCM Software Updates on the 2nd Tuesday of every month and I was wondering if anyone had any general insight as to why.  We notice that when compared side-by-side, the 2007 site can finish up to 30-45 minutes
sooner than the 2012 side.  On non-Patch Tuesdays, the sync seems to finish at the same time for the old and new sites.
The major differences are:
We are downloading and making available all updates in 2012, where we were only downloading known required updates in 2007.
We have our Software Update point assigned to our Primary site for 2012.
Another difference we don't quite understand is the log for 2012 seems to be much larger and show a ton of Skipped updates because they are up to date.  The sync also seems to happen every day at 1pm and last for about 45 minutes.  Example log
entry:
Skipped update c9d07481-cc99-4694-b2ff-96c5176d9045 - Q329115: Security Update (Windows 2000) because it is up to date.

Some updates are shown as superseded or expired, so it does seem like this is probably an expected verification to make sure updates are kept current on the WSUS.  Should it take a long time?
Does any of this sound like an anomaly or that there might be something wrong with our sync process?  We feel like it is much more taxing and time consuming than in 2007 and we want to verify #1) if something is wrong and/or #2) if there are
things we can be doing to expedite and smooth this process.
I apologize if this is a bit broad and lacking of information, but we aren't sure where to start with troubleshooting this issue.
Thanks,
Ryan

We are syncing English language and then all the categories (Security Updates, Update Rollups, Service Packs, Tools, Feature Packs, Updates, Definition Updates, and Critical Updates)
on both the 2007 site and the 2012 site.  I don't see that we sync specific Products for either site, as we want everything to get pulled down for us to then manually test, filter, and deploy out to our organization.
I don't see any EULA errors in the 2012 site wsyncmgr.log file, but there are a few other errors.  Honestly, the errors can sometimes be random or not at all and the sync can
still take a long time.  Today it looks like our sync failed and re-ran itself due to a failed update.  I just checked it again and the latest sync appeared to go through without errors.

  • SCCM 2007 R3 Software Updates Sync : 6703 WSUS server not configured

    Hi,
We run SCCM 2007 R3 in native mode (Software Update Point and WSUS both reside on SCCM site server). We're having issues running Software Updates Synchronization which have previously worked fine. In SMS_WSUS_Control_Manager the errors appear as follows
    MessageID:6703
    SMS WSUS Synchronization failed.
    Message: WSUS server not configured.
    Source: CWSyncMgr::DoSync.
The operating system reported error 2147500037: Unspecified error
I've followed the suggested fixes in
http://technet.micro...y/bb735874.aspx but still we have an issue.
If I open the WSUS console directly and run a manual synchronization from Microsoft this completes successfully. However, I presume this will not be using SSL which is what SCCM will want to use in native mode. I've checked the bindings in IIS on WSUS Administration
site to confirm that the certificate hasn't expired.
Any ideas what else I can try?
    Cheers,
    Paul

  • Apple Software Update download is SLOW...

Hi everyone, I've been experiencing VERY slow download speeds from Apple's Software Update throughout the weekend. I'm on a DSL line, no firewalls, and am getting normal performance at other sites/servers, but downloads from Apple are coming in at sub-dialup speeds.
The downloads start fine, then quickly taper off from 120 Kbps or so down to 5-6 Kbps, within just a few seconds. The problem occurs whether I use Software Update or try to access a file directly from Apple's Support Downloads page. iTunes app updates seem to have the same issue.
Any suggestions would be most welcome!

I'm not quite sure exactly what fixed the issue, but I did a complete reset and reconfig on my Linksys router and set up the connection to my ISP/DSL provider, and it seems to have improved. Never did track down the specific issue, though. I'd be curious if anyone is able to identify the cause.
When I was troubleshooting, I switched to a direct DSL connection via my Ethernet port, and got full speed downloads from Apple, so the wireless connection was definitely the issue for me....
    Good luck all!

  • Software Updates in Console Extremely Slow

Hope someone can help.  I have just noticed an issue in my SCCM 2012 where anything to do with Software Updates is excruciatingly slow.  Clicking on the "All Software Updates" list took over 10 mins to start populating and even after that point
took longer to continue to show updates.  I've also noticed that trying to deploy an existing Software Update Group pretty much hangs after clicking deploy.  Everything else in the console "seems" OK...trying to deploy an app or package comes up
with no issues.  It seems pinpointed to the Software Update function having the issue.
I believe the last time I used the Software Updates was right after the last patch Tuesday and I did not have any issues then.
I guess I just want to ask if anyone has had a similar issue to what I've described/and or has suggestions as to what logs/items to look into to try and track down the cause of this slowness.  I am not seeing anything odd or errors in any WSUS related
logs but I'm not sure if that's the correct place to be looking at for something like this.
Again,  any help or ideas will be greatly appreciated.

I'm just not sure if I'm missing something or overlooking something.  Like I had stated originally this problem seemed to come out of nowhere to be this bad.  I would have thought a gradual decrease in performance would have been more likely if
the indexes weren't being rebuilt etc. but to go from working last time I used software updates to taking 20+ mins to populate updates is what is worrying/troubling me.
Are there any other suggestions of things to try next or possible other steps to take?
Again, any help is greatly appreciated!

  • Uninstalling Software Updates?

I'm done downloading software updates. They slow my computer down a lot. Is there any way to get rid of them once you've downloaded them? I sure can't figure out how.
I think it's a conspiracy by computer manufacturers to force people out of their computers and into new models by loading them down with updates that keep their computer working like it's supposed to.

    RevGreg
    iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

If you have installed an OS, Security or Apple Software update, the only way to uninstall a particular update is to re-install Tiger from the Tiger install disc (archive & install selecting preserve user and network settings) and then install only the update or updates you prefer or none but I don't recommend doing so.
I do the following beforehand and I rarely, if ever, experience any problems after installing Apple updates.
Before installing a major OS Update such as 10.4.4, I update my regular backup first - a complete bootable clone of my hard drive saved to an external firewire drive. It isn't a matter of if but when your hard drive has a partial or complete failure since none last forever. If you aren't currently maintaining a regular backup of your important data, now is a good time to start.
After updating my backup, I boot from the Tiger install disc and run Disk First Aid repair to check the hard drive for any directory problems. This little step (that doesn't take much time) can prevent many problems. If there is a minor hard drive directory problem that goes unnoticed but is not repaired before installing a major OS Update such as 10.4.4, the process of installing the Update can bring an underlying problem to the surface or make it much worse.
If there are any problems reported and successfully repaired, I run DFA repair again until no problems are reported.
After re-start and booting from the normal hard drive boot volume, I disconnect all external peripheral devices except for a keyboard and mouse and I then install any updates without launching or running any applications which is also very important. You should quit all applications before installing any update.
I only run DFA repair before installing a major OS Update such as 10.4.4 but it certainly can't hurt to do so before installing any Security or Apple application updates also but not as important.
As a first step, I suggest Resolving Disk, Permission, and Cache Corruption for system troubleshooting procedures and when doing so, follow all steps/instructions in the order provided.
In addition, check Installing software updates for recommended procedures and Tuning Mac OS X Performance.

  • Software Update issues on 2012 MacBook Pro 15"

Picked up my shiny new MBP today and set about installing everything on it, and running software updates.
    It's currently running 10.7.4.
The software updates were glacially slow, but I waited, did other work on my iMac and eventually, they completed.
Then installed iWork '09, and run software update again.
Again, the software update was slow, so I tried downloading the iWork 6 / 9.1 patch manually.
17KB/s. Connected via wifi. Said it would take an hour to download a 78Mb patch.
I tried downloading the same file on my iMac.
    50KB/s.
Tried running a test download from my ISP's test site on the MBP.
    634KB/s - ie: normal.
I've since downloaded (on the MBP!) patches for Office, a bunch of different apps, and download speeds were on par with my iMac, and what I expect from my network in general.
Right now it's downloading the Jave JRE from Apple via ethernet and is, once again, glacially slow.
So this isn't a "Why is my MacBook Pro is slow on WiFi?" discussion, it's a "Why are my downloads from Apple servers so slow, and why is my 2012 MacBook Pro with Lion almost 1/4 the speed of my 2007 iMac with SL?"
And am I the only one?

Hey, thanks for your idea, but it seems to have set me back even further.
Initially, I couldn´t use the disk utilites on the start up disks I have, as the Disk Ultility kept crashing. So, I connected my MBP to another mac (G4)  in target disk mode and used the other G4´s disk utility to repartition the disk as GPT, as it was set to Apple partition.
So the disk is now Mac OS extended Journaled and the partition scheme is GUID partition Table.
I then disconnected the two macs and booted the MBP up from the startup disk again to run the installation.
But, now, the installation doesn´t even see the harddrive at all.
So, I double checked the harddrive is fine.  By connecting it a second time to the G4, in target disk mode, and ran dick verification and repairs..... the G4 can see the drive and it´s telling me everything is perfect.
I really think this is a software issue, rather than a hard-drive one, as I seem to be going around the houses, repartioning and reformatting the hard-drive which seems to be working perfectly when connected to any other computer.
    Any other thoughts?

  • Software update vs timeoue

    hi
I need to download from Software Update but the file takes longer than the 2 hours i have on the net before my isp cuts me off, and then i have to start again and get nowhere. is there an easy way to resolving this that i am missing ?
    thanks in advance......

    Hello David.
    I've often found the downloads from Software Update to be slow, and occasionally unstable, this is particularly the case for OSX upgrades. I'd recommend checking out in Software Update what you'd like to download, then going to;
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/
    This is located in the Downloads section of the Support tab at the top of the Discussions window. I hope this is a quicker and more successful route than SU. For your information, I'd recommend repairing your permissions after any big updates. This is how it's done;

  • When I plug in my iPod and it syncs it says that a bunch of my apps cannot be loaded because my iPod does not have the latest software to support them, but I have done all of the iPod software updates and the same apps were working fine just weeks ago...?

I plug in my iPod to charge from my computer and it syncs with my iTunes, but I've been getting a message that a list of 13 of my apps cannot be loaded onto my iPod because it doesn't have the latest software to support them. I have done all the software updates for my iPod and iTunes says it is completed up-to-date. Do I need to delete the apps and redownload them or what?
    Any help is appreciated! Thanks.

ok well like lllaass said, most apps require 4.3 or later iOS software. chances are since the apps worked before, the apps themselves got updated and will no longer work with your software version.

  • Unable to Sync Video files after Itunes 9.0.3 and iPhone software update

This is my problem with Itunes- After I the Software Update program installed iTunes 9.0.3 yesterday, and I upgraded the iPhone software (to 3.1.3.) shortly thereafter. The iPhone upgrade failed (it froze). When I restarted the computer, I had to restore the iPhone and then I synced. I could not sync my video files.
The apps, music and "push" items sync perfectly. However, it ignores the Movies, Podcasts and iTunes U files.
In terms of the location for these files, all of my Library and Media files are contained in a firewire external drive. They have been there since I started up with iTunes many years ago. All worked well before the Install/Upgrade.
Problem is- iTunes ignores the pointer in Preferences/Advanced/Location and creates an empty folder, named iTunes in the Music library (in my Home directory) at every sync (even if I delete it, it recreates it on the new sync).
Question-Why does iTunes ignore the pointer, and create a new empty folder in Home?
    Thanks for your help.

Apparently Apple doesn't bother to test their software updates. This problem was introduced last September and has persisted through a number of updates that were supposed to address the bug. Very discouraging. I keeping holding out hope that an iTunes update will eventually fix this feature that worked fine for years before iTunes 9 was introduced.
Unfortunately, it is impractical to go back to an earlier version of iTunes.
I have reported this bugs several times (via iTunes feedback). If Apple actually reads the feedback, they never respond.
It's not like there are other vendors or unknowns involved: current iMac 24, new iPod Touch, the latest version of iTunes and iPod OS.
So what do we have to do to get Apple's attention? Stop buying music? Stop buying Apple devices? I'd love to buy the new iPad, but I'm darned if I will if they are unable or unwilling to fix this bug...

  • IPhone 5 really slow, freezing since software update

I have been beyond disapponted with the iphone 5 thus far. When i initially got it it was very slow, especially using the keyboard in messaging, and did this weird thing where it would just randomly dim and then I could not the screen to fully illuminate again unless i completely restarted the phone. Then, after the first software update, I expected the problems to be solved but it only got worse!! My phone freezes daily, sometimes more, the apps are constantly just shutting down and am still having the keyboard slowness as well other werid malfunctions such as my text conversations from two different people merging into one.
Is there anything I can do??? I am a loyal apple customer and it really makes me sad to have to deal with this!

My husband and I both upgraded out iPhone 5s early today and we are not having any trouble. I thought it was an improvement in speed, much faster than it was. I'm sorry that's no help for you.

  • WONT SYNC AFTER SOFTWARE UPDATE - COMPLETELY LOCKED UP

I went to sync my iphone 3G today and it said a new software update was available. I already updated the software that allowed the cut/copy/paste feature. This was the most recent one. An error occurred (I did not get the error #) and now all I get is the "connect to the itunes" picture with the USB pic. When I connect, it says I need to restore which I do and then it gets to the verifying iphone software portion and freezes.
I have deleted the iphone software updates folder from the application data, apple computer, itunes folder. Nothing works.
I have read several threads and forums but none help. The last resort would be to delete Itunes and reinstall but then I lose my restore option from yesterday, right?
My iphone is useless. Please help. I use it for work and I am helpless and disconnected from everything....

I tried to update iphone on 3 seperate windows XP machines and had the same issue. USB cable and itunes logo. Phone was screwed! tried all the suggested forum fixes and nothing changed.
Took the phone into local apple store and cha ching! everything updates fine on a mac. Asked as to why all the issues were happening with XP/Vista and got the shoulder shrug. They were thinking things might be more stable with windows 7. How oes that help me now and what about those who don't have a local apple store to go to????
This was my fathers phone...needless to say I did not get an iphone when i upgaded phones yesterday. Too many issues between apple products and windows.
