Software Updates that I neither want nor need
Hello,
It seems like every week, I get an alert with the same list of software updates for programs that I never use. iLife, iMovie, iGarage or whatever it's called, etc.
Sure, I install the security updates and all the relevant stuff, but I get so sick of always unchecking the boxes on all the unnecessary stuff, only to have it pop up again next time. At this point, there are about a dozen updates it tells me about each week, and ALL of them are ones that I don't want or need.
Any way to deactivate the alert for certain types of items? Thank you.

Select the ones you don't want to keep seeing and use Software Update's "Update" menu > "Ignore Update...".

I just did a software update that was apparently for iPhoto. When I try to open iPhoto it stops at "step 5" and will not go further. what do I do?
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

The update to iOS 5.0 & higher is an erase/restore deal, so make sure you follow the directions here to update your phone:

What iPod do you have and what update do you need? If you have a 4the generation iPod Touch, that cannot be updated beyond iOS 6.1.6.

On my iBooks of ipad , against the name of the book, there is a blue square on the right hand side
, that book neither opens nor deletes, why?Check settings> general> accessibility> make sure guided access, voice over, and switch control are all turned off.

I can no longer use Macmail for my btinternet account. I was advised to delete the imap account and begin again with a pop account for incoming mail. My Macbook will not let me do that and neither BT nor Yahoo have been able to help.
Btinternet being your internet service provider? If I'm correct, have you followed their directions:

Software updates sometimes do not install. I have two software updates that I continually show up as available to install. When I click on the install button it changes to installed. Checked About this Mac shows that the updates have not installed.
What are the updates?

I hAVE A 2011 macbook pro, i've noticed that hardrive usage from 180 gig went up slowly to 260 gig after several months, and i didn't even install any software or saved anything at all that big? Why is that? Is it becasue of the many software updates that Apple sends? I already checked my files but i don't find anything that would cause that much of a big jump.

i have an 14gb iphone4 and have been trying to install IOS5 but cannot seem to do it, when i go into general settings i don't have the 'software update' that is shown. Any tips on how to upgrade?
Go back to that article, ignore the instructions for updating it wirelessly, scroll down, and follow those for updating it from iTunes on a computer.

I have 11 software updates. The machine says in need to retart to install. I am in an infinite loop where it just keeps restarting and never installing the updates. Help!

Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partition & use Disk Utility from there to Repair the Disk. -

I have quicktime installed in order to view quicktime movies, and never had any interest in itunes whatsoever. The apple-centric behavior of the Apple Software Update is really annoying! When did i express any interest in itunes to begin with? How does downloading quicktime then give apple the permission to constantly harass me about their other software?? ...And how is this different from Windows Update being Windows-centric? I know when I update on XP, I get listings on updates for everything form the newest Media Player to Outlook. If you don't want the update, then don't select it (or like said above, ignore it).
I'm not trying to flame, but this is a bit trivial. At least now there is a central way of doing Apple Updates, unlike the old days when you had to monitor the Apple website.

You update the iOS using iTunes
If you have an iPhone 3G you can only update to 4.2.1
if you have an iPhone 3GS you can update to 6.1.3
