Software upgrade breaks network connection

After upgrading the software for the Airport base station I have lost connection between my desktop unit and PB.
Prevously this worked without any problems.
The configuration is:
Cable modem connected to ASANTE 3004.
Desktop connected to ASANTE
AEB Connected via the WAN to ASANTE
PB using Airport to connect to ASANTE
eMac Connected to the ASANTE, this is seen by the desktop.
The PB sees the internet.
The Desktop sees the internet
But the PB using Airport doesn't see either of the Desktop units and vice versa.
If I connect the PB to the ASANTE with a direct ethernet cable both units see each other.
This seems to have been brought on by the upgrade to the base units software.
Can anyone suggest what might have changed as a result of the upgrade or what could be the source of the problem?

  • Kernel Upgrade Breaks Network Connection

    My server uses:
    [15:48] (tunix@kulupler ~)$ pacman -Qs kernel
    local/kernel26 2.6.19.1-1
        The Linux Kernel and modules
    local/kernel-headers 2.6.19.1-1
Kernel headers sanitized for use in userspace
for kernel. The latest kernel upgrade (2.6.19.2-1) breaks network connection after ~5 minutes from the boot. When the network connections fails, kernel says:
Jan 12 15:10:44 kulupler ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): eth0: link is not ready
The connection never comes either after a network service restart, nor ifconfig eth0 up/down etc... The only solution is to restart, but after ~5 min. it fails again.
So, as a solution, I just downgraded the kernel to 2.6.19.1-1 again.

  • Downloading iTunes Plus song upgrades problem - network connection msg

I recently upgraded to iTunes 10.1. I also purchased the iTunes plus song upgrades for most of my library. When I try to download these upgrades, I get the same message, which is something like "iTunes Network Connection Time Out". However, I have purchased new songs since and been able to download without issue. I have tried all of the following fixes with no avail.
    -Uninstall and Reinstall
    -disabled firewall completely
    -Flushed DNS Cache
None of the above have had any impact on the problem. If I cannot fix this, I will contest the charge for the upgrade with my bank since no one at Apple has been able to help.

I am having the exact same problem. I tried contacting Apple support - I explained my problem and provided the info from running Diagnostics. What I got in return was a cut-and-paste answer about being sure to log in and check my cables, as well as " please note that the iTunes Store cannot investigate every user's connection issue". So what's the point of sending an email in the first place? I'm very frustrated - my iTunes plus upgrade was over $400, and it was billed to my credit card weeks ago while I've been trying to get this solved. I am about to call my bank as well.

  • Blackberry Desktop Software slows down Network Connectivity on Win 7 start up

    Hi,
I am new so be gently..lol
I am running windows 7 64bit Home Premium. I recently noticed that on start up my PC was taking between 10 and 20 seconds to set up it's network connectivity, which previously was almost instant. There were no erros within the event logs to suggest why this was occuring. The last thing installed was the blackberry desktop manager. I uninstalled this, and found that my network connectivity was now occuring almost instantly again.
Is this a know issue with this software? I have searched the forum but cannot find anything simliar, only people saying it was slowing down start up as a whole which is not what is happening to me.
Thanks for any help or advice in advance.

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
Typically, if you have installed the RIM DTM software to auto-start every time you boot your PC, the boot time will increase. Personally, I've found no reason to allow DTM to auto-start...I only launch it when I need it.
To perform a full clean uninstall, see this KB:

  • My Safari browser not loading...why won't software update detect network connection?

I am using Foxfire browser, and glad I did at least download such...even though Foxfire updates are not recognized by my Lion system.  This unnerves me a bit since I'd be dead in the water...and my Foxfire is getting more outdated by the day.
My Safari browser comes up...but then does not load...remains blank.
I tried doing a Software Update...but my system is not finding network connection.  When I did the diagnostic, my system DID recognize my wifi connection and as good.
What should I do...?  Would like my Safari back, but more important I suppose is getting my software updates...
    thanks
my system is Lion OS X  10.7.2

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up a guest account” (without the quotes) in the search box. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem(s)?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault in OS X 10.7 or later, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
*Note: If FileVault is enabled under OS X 10.7 or later, or if a firmware password is set, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

  • Mountain Upgrade + Missing Network Connections

I just did the recent Mountain upgrade to 10.8.5 and all my printer network connections and my home network connection (which I paid to have set-up) are now missing.  Please tell me there is an easy fix to this problem.
    Thanks in advance.

I can't tell you there is an easy fix because I don't know what's wrong. Requires troubleshooting.
Please start by doing a Safe Boot (it does some repair stuff in the process).
To do a Safe Boot, restart or turn on the computer. After hearing the gong sound, press and hold the Shift key until you see the progress indicator. Then you can release the shift key. Safe Boot will take longer - up to ten or 15 minutes. You can confirm you are in Safe mode by seeing the words Safe Boot at top of login dialog and top of Finder.
Test your internet while in Safe mode. Let us know that result.
Now, restart in normal mode by Not pressing shift.
Again check internet and tell us the result.
If still not working, go to System Preferences, Network prefs, and tell us every thing you see in that dialog box. (left side, what's listed and what color indicator dots by each, etc.)

  • SLM2024 port mirroring breaks network connections

Hi all, I got an SLM2024 that I want to use with my network probe app to analyze packets, I have my network probe PC plugged into the target port and uplink to firewall's trusted port to source port of 2024. Now whenever I enable port mirroring on the 2024, I lose all network connections on the 2024, I searched around here but didn't really find my answer. If anyone's seen this before, any pointers would be great.

Hi Crash, thanks for the reply, yeah it's a similar setting on that model just with a different layout on the admin page, what I meant on the trusted port part is, I have a netscreen firewall and the trusted port of the firewall goes into the source mirrored port of the slm2024, and my PC is on the target port. And I have those mirrored with a setting for both tx and rx, whenever I enable mirroring it halts traffic from the firewall, and others that are on the 2024 like server/workstns.
But network probe works and I can see traffic. We had a cisco catalyst before and that had no problems using the span feature.

  • Recent software upgrade--can't connect to iTunes store.

I upgraded the AppleTV and now, it won't connect to the iTunes store. Ever.
There is no problem with the account--I've signed in properly, it works fine on my computer, phone, iPad, no issues with account itself.
There is no problem with the internet access--I can do everything else--Netflix, Hulu, YouTube, HomeSharing all working just fine.
But I cannot access my content in my account through the Apple TV--the reason I purchased this item--and I'm starting to get very, very angry.
Is there a way I can make it redownload the upgrade? Will that fix it?
Does anybody have a number to a Tony Stark hotline?

I have been having the same problems and I'm starting get very ****** off with Apple. Both my new 2012 apple tvs does this. I've even taken both back to new a down loaded the updates again. The problem is with iTunes connection.

  • Java update breaks network connect

The latest Java update has broken my junipe netwrok connect, anyone got any ideas?

    This worked for me:
    http://groups.google.com/group/macenterprise/browse_thread/thread/6368431a9c273a 53
    The key is:
"This update also configures the Java web plug-in to disable the automatic
execution of Java applets. Users may re-enable automatic execution of Java
applets using the Java Preferences application. If the Java web plug-in
detects that no applets have been run for an extended period of time it will

  • BT HomeHub firmware upgrade broken network connect...

whatever you guys have done with the latest firmware release on the Homehub 2 has completely messed up my dual-boot Ubuntu-Win7 installation.
    Current firmware 4.7.5.1.83.3.18 (Type B)
    Last Updated 21/04/11
Ever since Friday when I boot into Win7 then reboot into Ubuntu, Ubuntu cannot aquire an IP address from the router. I have to do a factory reset on the router to get an address. I've 10's of port forwarding setup and this is far from ideal.
What do I do to go back a firmware or who do I contact to get it fixed.
Its a bit pathetic TBH and I'm quite annoyed about this

I've got exactly the same (baffling) problem with my BT HomeHub 2 and Ubuntu 10.10. - worked fine last Wednesday (20th April) and won't work today (26th April). Can see the router just fine but won't connect wirelessly or wired but will connect to BT Open Zone which is enabled on my hub and a couple of other hubs nearby. The OpenZone connection is full strength (which is my hub) - none of the neighbouring connections has ever been a full strength signal. Very odd.
Checked to see if it was my Ubuntu set up by running the machine off the installation disk and got exactly the same symptoms. My HomeHub also updated its firmware some time on the 21st April so, given that nothing else has changed (my windows 7 laptop has continued to work flawlessly) I am driven to the conclusion, like other correspondents here, that the HomeHub update is the culprit.
Ubuntu is growing and it would be good to see BT do some work on this quickly.

  • QT 7.1.1 software upgrade breaks finder

I have a friend that has a G4 laptop that after installing the latest QT. Finder is flashing the menu bar and icons and she can't click anything on the desktop. The dock is not flashing and applications in the dock will start, but when switching to the finder all began flashing again.
QT player crashes when started. How do we go back to earlier version of QT?
    TIA

Additionally, it could be a preference file that's gone bad. Open ~/Library/Preferences/ and move the com.apple.finder.plist to the desktop, OPTION-click on the Dock's Finder icon, and select Relaunch. If that doens't fix the problem, create a new admin user account, log into it, and see if the problem persists. Report back with results.

  • Since the software upgrade connecting to hotspot from my iphone with my ipad is not working.

Since the software upgrade , I cannot connect my ipad2 to my iphone 4s via the phones hotspot.  Regular wifi is ok.  Is anyone else having this problem?  I tried resetting the network settings on the ipad, but it didn't help.  The ipad sees the hotspot, but doesn't connect.  My phone service is with Verizon.

I think I solved the problem.  I did a network reset on both the ipad and iphone.  So far so good.

  • No Network Connectivity on G4 after Tiger upgrade.

Yes, I know the machine is ancient. It's a Power Mac G4 with dual 1.25Ghz processors. Has a built in Airport card.
I did a clean install of the Mac OS the machine came with... 10.2. Airport worked fine, was able to get online.
Then, I did an upgrade to Tiger (10.4). After the upgrade ALL network connectivity is gone, cannot connect via Airport or Ethernet.
Airport card still shows up in system profiler, and the status icon is next to the time display. However, it is greyed out, and zero networks show up as being available. There are at least 5 networks available on my other Macs.
Also, Ethernet connection doesnt work either. Again, works fine when plugging the same Ethernet cable into my MacBook...works wonderfully via Ethernet. When connected directly to the Power Mac G4 however, no connectivity. No IP address at all. I've even tried doing a manual IP address, to no avail.
    PLEASE HELP!!

    Hi again, apply this...
The combo update for PowerPC-based Macs...
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosx10411comboupdateppc.html
    Does that do anything?
