hi

i I had to do a time acing backup restore three times before I realised what problem was..
the he other way was to create a new user account and do it from there, once installed delete account and log back in to your original one..but be warned if you have Mcaffe installed this WILL LOCK UP YOUR MAC..

I have found another solution.  I upgraded to Yosemite and found the the App Store version of PSE 10 (which didn't change) was suddenly in German.  Close PSE if it is open.  Use the Finder and go to the PSE 10 application in the Applications folder.  Right click (or ctl-click) on it and select "Show Package Contents".  Then go to Contents>Locales and delete the de_DE folder.  (I imagine you could also rename it to something starting with a letter after "e".  I think PSE is probably using the first language it comes to in this Locale folder.)  Start PSE.  It worked for me.  Hope this helped.

What does "extracted channel PDF" mean and why does it continually duplicate on my desktop?  I think it happens when I move a file in Finder to another file and when I copy some web files.  I have to immediately move to trash all the duplications on my desktop.  How do I avoid this on my Mac (Mavericks)?  Thanks for your help!

What application is set to open PDF files? If you CNTRL click on the file and open with Preview does the problem occur?
If not change the default application to open PDF files to Preview.
You can do this by highlighting the file and either use CMD i or Get Info , this will open a window with the info on the file with an option to change the application that opens the file.
That's all I can think of.

I had all photos on a Windows desktop.  Got a mac laptop, installed LR5, and put all images from Windows onto an external hard drive.  When I go to import them into LR on the mac, they are all locked.  Help, please!

"I plugged the external into the Mac and moved a folder of images onto the desktop.  It looks like it went from read only to not locked.  Is this possible?"
Yes, that's exactly what happened. If you buy another drive, you could copy from your existing drive to the new and your files will be read/write. The new drive will have to be formatted as an HFS drive (that's the Mac's format). If you need to format it, you use Disk Utility which is in the Utilities folder on your Mac. Be careful with that -- it wipes out whatever is currently on the drive. Make sure you format the right drive.
I keep all my images on an external drive, too. In fact, I have two matching drives and sync them so I always have a backup.

  • Upgrade external HD from Mavericks to Yosemite

    Hi,
On my MBP I have installed Mavericks 10.9.5.
Then I have a couple of external hard drive with a clone of Mavericks 10.9.5.
If I have a cloned hard drive plugged in (not booting off from it), and I run the installer of Yosemite and I tell to install Yosetime on the external hard drive (where there’s a clone of Mavericks 10.9.5) what would then happen.
Would Yosemite erase everything from the clone, or would the clone upgrade from Mavericks to Yosemite, else?
    Thanks

No, the Yosemite install will not erase everything on the clone.
Yes, the clone would upgrade from Mavericks to Yosemite. All your apps and data will not be touched.
I actually did something similar onto an SD card. I installed Yosemite 10.10, apps and data. Then later, I ran the 10.10.1 installer against the SD card and all that happened was Yosemite updated from 10.10 to 10.10.1. Nothing else was touched.

  • Upgrading Early 2009 Mac Pro to Yosemite

I need an upgrading for dummies tutorial   I want to upgrade some applications that I use and can not do that with Mountain Lion which is currently on my Early 2009 Mac Pro. (Processor 2.66 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon - Memory 12 GB - Graphics NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 512 MB - OSX 10.8.5). My monitor is a NEC MultiSync P221W and I use Spectraview II to calibrate. I also have an older Dell monitor attached that I only use for palettes, etc.
I have discovered I can not upgrade to Mavericks and will need to go to Yosemite. I am nervous about the process and undecided what is the best way to tackle this. I assume I will first need to do a full backup and do have a bootable drive that I can use. Can I then just install Yosemite or is it best to do a clean install? I have heard so many negative things about installing Yosemite that I am really uncertain of the best way to tackle this. I am particularly concerned about the reports of system slow down.I have an even older MacBook Pro that is also running Mountain Lion but I have no plans to attempt an upgrade on it. It has had problems since it was fairly new and right now I use an external keyboard and a mouse because using the track pad or keyboard on the laptop cause it to lock up. (Long story and multiple rebuilds during and after Apple Care). So at this point the only machine I am concerned about is the desktop. I use it mainly for Photoshop and Lightroom and Quicken. If someone can give me some advice I would be most appreciative. I am an older gal with casual computer knowledge, living out in the sticks and really have no one available for help. Thanks in advance

Depending on how hard you push your system, size of files you work with.
You may want to look into 5,1 firmware; a W3690 or X5690 3.4GHz 6-core even to help more.

  • After Effects CS6 upgrade error in mac mavericks

    Say hello to everyone.
Now i'm very tired and irritated about upgrading after effects cs6. Because my mac version is mac os x 10.9.5, mavericks so have to upgrade After Effects cs6.
BUT, only upgrade version 11.04 installed, and the others (11.01/ 11.02/ 11.03) still not installed and have an error message : the error code is U44M2P7.
What is this code mean and what should i do next?

If you have 11.0.4 installed, you have everything in 11.0.1, 11.0.2., and 11.0.3
There is no reason to install any update other than 11.0.4

  • Upgrade a 2008 Mac Pro to Yosemite

I upgraded to Snow Leopard to get access to the app store and upgrade to Yosemite.  Now, the download of Yosemite seems "frozen".  The dock icon says "downloading", but it has been 10 minutes.  If I hit Command/Option/Escape it does not indicate that anything is "not responding".  What do I do?  Is my computer so old (2008) that it will not upgrade to Yosemite???

What you are seeing is proper.
    Have a beer.
In fact you have time to drink a case if you want!
I just downloaded Yosemite on my Mac Book Pro (Late 2008), but I also have two
    (Late 2008)
    Model No.:1186 EMC No2180
    Mac Pro/2.8_8CX/4X2G
    ALL got the same treatment.
I forget how big the Yosemite file is,(it's a few gigs).
I waited overnight to download the OS, and I did it over a wireless system as opposed to hardwired to an ether-net cable.
When the file was downloaded from the internet, I was able to install the system in 15 minutes.
That being said, I have to tell you that all machines also have updated Samsung 840 EVO, SSD's and 8 gigs of RAM.
A HDD might take a little longer.
    Also...
I had all my original install and application disks, did a CLEAN re-install of Snow Leopard that came with the machines, updated to 10.68 (or whatever it is) and then did the Yosemite download from the dock.
All 3 machines work great, BUT I HAD ALL MY ORIGINAL DISKS!
The reason I emphasize this, I had originally done a Time Machine Back up.
I tried to use Time Machine to migrate the the files from my back up drive, but the Snow Leopard re-install wouldn't let me recover my back up files because... since I had backed up to the latest (automatic) updated version of OS X, the older outdated version wouldn't recognize the newer backup.
When I tried to migrate from my back-up drive using Yosemite, Yosemite saw my drive but wouldn't let me unlock my backup files. I think because I did the CLEAN install.
Fortunately, there was really nothing on there that I needed.
I'm able to transfer any files I want from my old drive...as long as they weren't in TIME MACHINE.
What I CAN'T transfer from my old drive, is my Final Cut Studio Pro...Fortunately I have disks for this also.
Many people are complaining that the OS is junk, but I think the way this really works best is to:
1: BACK UP ALL YOUR FILES TO ANOTHER DRIVE
2: If you have any applications that you installed from a disk...Find the disk because you may need it again.
3: Re-install your new OS to a CLEAN, REFORMATTED DRIVE.
This means you will have to download your original Snow Leopard OS, go online, update to 10.8 6 and then download Yosemite.
(this is where you go and have the case of beer and then go to bed)
(if you had 200 gigs of info on a 250 gig drive...NOTHING  is going to make your machine faster until you get rid of the junk.)
    4: Run the install.
5: After the install restart your machine.
    6: Upload any applications.
7: Go to the top left corner of the screen and check for updates! (even though you have an updated OS, there may be updates for your           specific applications that aren't covered in Yosemite. (Had to do this with Final Cut.)
8: Re-install any other personal preferences: internet, email, electronic banking, PayPal...
9: Decide what you REALLY want to transfer over (because you now have a clean drive)
10:Take your new system for a drive and check it out.
11:Make yourself a drink. That's at eleven because it number one twice!
Hope this was of some help

  • Since updating the software on my iPhone 3gs it has developed the so called "white screen of death". The phone has not been dropped or damaged in anyway, the problem only developed after software upgrade. Rung apple and they were less than helpful

since updating my iphone 3gs software it has developed the so called "white screen of death" this happened immediately after software install. It has never been dropped or damaged. I have tried the solution which seems to pop up most of holding down the power button and the home button for 10 seconds but this hasnt helped at all. Tried ringing apple, who were less than helpful and disinterested as the phone is out of warranty. I am hoping there is a solution which doesnt mean shelling out for a new phone! any ideas?

Basics from the manual are restart, reset, restore.
    Try all of these.
    If these fail, then:

  • ITunes will not quit properly in Mac OS X Yosemite - force quit required

I upgraded to to Mac OS X Yosemite last week and have updated all of my other software as the updates became available.  Since the update, iTunes has not always worked properly (e.g., recognizing devices when they are plugged in).  However, the one consistent bug is that iTunes will not quit.  Regardless of how I try to quit the application (menu, dock, computer shut down/restart) it will not quit.  No beach ball appears and in the "force quit" menu it does not show as "not responding".  In fact, I can still continue to use iTunes after trying to quit the application.
The only way to exit the application is by force quitting.  I would prefer to not continue to do this but I have been unable to find a solution.
    Thanks,
    Alan

  • Hi i want to upgrade my iMac from Snow Leopard 10.6.8 to OS X Mavericks or OS X Yosemite. My software update menu dosnn´t find any updates available. Help please, what can i do to upgrade to OS X Mavericks or newer version?

Hi i want to upgrade my iMac from Snow Leopard 10.6.8 to OS X Mavericks or OS X Yosemite. My software update menu dosnn´t find any updates available. Help please, what can i do to upgrade to OS X Mavericks or newer version?

Open the Mac App Store and try downloading Yosemite. If you get told it's incompatible, the computer's also incompatible with Mountain Lion and Mavericks; if desired, choose About this Mac from the Apple menu, check if the computer has at least a Xeon or Core 2 Duo(not Core Duo) CPU and 2GB of RAM, and if it does, click here and order a download code for Lion 10.7.
Back up your data and check your applications for compatibility before upgrading. In particular, Mac OS X 10.7 and newer don't support PowerPC programs such as versions of Microsoft Office prior to 2008.

  • I have a MacBook Pro (15-inch, Late 2008) and am currently running Snow Leopard 10.6.8. I would like to know which is the most stable upgrade for my model. I have read some reviews of Maverick and Yosemite making the older macs slower. Is this true?

I have a MacBook Pro (15-inch, Late 2008), Intel Core 2 Duo 2.53 GHz, 4GB Memory. and am currently running Snow Leopard 10.6.8.
I would like to know which is the most stable upgrade for my model? Mountain Lion, Mavericks or Yosemite?
When I had gone to the apple care centre in India a few months ago to upgrade my OSX to Mountain Lion, I was told that considering my macbook pro's specs, upgrading it would just make it less efficient, and that I should stick to Snow Leopard unless I consider buying a newer mac that would benefit from it. Is this true? I find it a bit hard to believe. Which update is most recommended?
I also notice that my mac has gotten considerably slower. While using chrome, it buffers and struggles with even just 5 tabs open. Could this have something to do with my current ios? As a precaution, I have always been making sure I have enough free space on disk i.e around 70 - 100 free out of 250GB.
    Any advice is appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

Mavericks is no longer available from the App Store, so your choice is Yosemite. One option is to create a new partition (~30- 50 GB), install the new OS, and ‘test drive’ it. If you like/don’t like it it, you can then remove the partition. Do a backup before you do anything. By doing this, if you don’t like it you won't have to go though the revert process.
Check to make sure your applications are compatible.

  • Tried to Upgrade to Yosemite - Mac Got Locked! - HELP!!!

Today I tried to upgrade my late 2013 15" MacBook Pro Retina from Mavericks to Yosemite. After launching the installation, the computer restarted and within 30 seconds it displayed a screen asking for a four-character password and the following message "Enter your system lock PIN code to unlock this Mac."! I cannot bypass this screen and I have no clue what this password might bemas I never set one.
I called Apple Canada and was with them for four hours on the phone. No result other than the fact that my computer appears to be iCloud locked. I only remember experimenting and trying to lock it once through my iClold account 6-8 months ago and the procedure had no effect on the Mac at that time (although it locked my iPnone and iPad). The Apple guy thinks that that the very old command might have activated now. But how do I unlock it my computer now?
On the phone, Apple advised me to go to an Apple Store to see the Genius Bar. But the earliest appointments are available on Wednesday next week and Saturday I need to fly to the UK on business for a week and all my work files and presentations I need to make are on the locked computer.
What has Apple done to my computer? How could they lock me like this out of my data? Please let me know what do I have to do to recover access to my computer and data as soon as possible?
    Many thanks.

I did the same thing, I realised what I did wrong after it was too late and ended up with the 'white no entry sign' on the black screen.
I did manage to sort it, but because the solution happened so fast, I can't recall the exact details, but here is a general guide:  Please read all of this before following the sequence I went through.
After much messing around searching the net on another machine and getting nowhere I decided to do a re-install the system.  I started the Mac holding down Command-R.  I then opted to re-install the software thinking that I was going to lose everything.  I clicked on the Install button and it would not let me re-install the system because the drive was locked.  This turned out to be an amazing stroke of luck.
I then went to Time Machine out of curiosity more than anything else, and this is where I can't remember exactly what happened.  I think I went to see if there were any backup, knowing there was not! but it gave me the option to 'unlock' the drive.  I did this, immediately shutdown and re-started and I was then able to get back in as normal.  I then went straight into Filevault and made sure that it was switched off.
    I hope that helps.
