Software Upgrade (Quicktime?) causing problems

I installed recommended QT upgrade and weird stuff ensued. Every few minutes all of the folders and icons on my screen disappear and reappear about 1 second later. If I'm typing at the time (like while doing this post) any characters I have entered do not appear. Sorta like a momentary freeze.
The Quicktime software upgrade may not be related, but this problem definitely began just after it.
Would appreciate help/advice.

Quicktime causing problems

Every time I try to save an audio or video file to my hard drive, the Qtime player screen comes up. I've tried everything I can think of to remove Qtime from the process and just download the files through firefox but the only thing that works is uninstalling Qtime. As much as I'd love to just do that and be done with it I cannot because then i-tunes won't load and I need i-tunes to run my stinking i-pod!!! Doesn't this violate some kind of anti-trust laws?
somebody please help me get this Qtime monkey off my back when I just want to download files.

I have this exact same problem. It has highjacked my computer and when trying to download an mp3 it automatically starts playing it! I have unchecked in preferences associating it with mp3s but it's still doing it!
How can you make it so that quicktime doesn't play anything automatically?
Or better yet how can I have itunes installed without quicktime highjacking my pc!

Upgrade has caused problems with hotspot, tethering, and "help"

I received notice that my Z10 os had an upgrade available, so I went ahead and upgraded to 10.1.0.2019. Now that I'm on a new version my wireless hotspot as well as tethering features no longer work. They worked the day before. I have an unlimited data plan with data roaming. Others in my org with the exact same phone and plan but earlier version os do not have this problem. The error message for both features (hotspot and tethering) is that I need to subscribe to a plan that allows these features. My plan is already unlimited data with roaming. After investigation with the provider, they reported that my features had not been "enabled correctly". They made some changes and these two features started working again. This is all very suspicious and dubious since the features were working prior to the upgrade.
The second issue is that now I constantly have "help" menu pop ups telling me how to use gestures to navigate on my phone. I don't want these but don't see where to turn them off. I guess this is the default behavior of the new OS. Apparently it introduced or modified some of the gestures. Until I actually went in and executed each gesture, it continued to display the help menu.
I'd just as soon revert back to the old OS if I have to live with all this new unhelpful stuff. I don't see a handy way to downgrade to a previous release either. right now my phone is far less productive a tool than it should be or was prior to the upgrade.
While all has been fixed now, it still points to some unfortunate issues with new OS.

As long as you are using the current version of firefox Firefox 7 sync is part of the browser. If you use the old version Firefox 3.6 sync was an add-on. If you have the add-on it may be removed see [[uninstalling add-ons]]

Activating sync should not be affecting the look of websites or webmail pages, possibly it is a separate problem.

Have you made other changes such as turning off javascript ?

Will anti-virus software like Mcafee cause problems with Premiere 5.5?

My work station was just abducted by our IT department to install Mcafee and do some Windows updates. Since they brought it back to me PPro will not allow previews and crashes repeatidly. I had zero problems before they took my system. I asked what all they did and they said that the only change to the system was the insallation of Mcafee and the Win updates.
Any help would be great. I have searched for two days and have not found anything that has helped. I have three big projects coming up and need to get my system back in working order. Thanks!

Ipod touch 2.1 software upgrade problem

Hi so i have a first generation ipod touch and i have bought the 2.1 software upgrade but now it is saying that in order to upgrade i have to wipe all content currently on my ipod.
This is a problem because I do not have all the files that are on my ipod on my computer, so if i upgrade then i will lose most of my music and videos, but i do not want to waste my money because i paid $13 for the upgrade.
Is it possible to upgrade my ipod without erasing my content?
any help would be much appreciated!

not from about from 1.x to 2.x but mine came with 2.0.0 and i used all upgrades untill this 2.1 and i only sync'd my ipod touch 1 time
the rest of the times it does a restore and upgrade and restore the restore
if it's different from 1.x to 2.x then there
are programs you can manualy copy out your media before the upgrade
try using search or google as i dont know their names

Problems with contacts getting deleted after software upgrade!

Somehow, my IPhone 4s had a software upgrade, and it DELETED contacts. Anyone else have a problem with this???? UGH!
I had a thunderbolt before my IPhone, and my contacts were saved to the verizon back up assistant. They are now nowhere to be found!

If you were already using iOS 5 where you using the iCloud feature to back up your device? If so, you should be able to retrieve your contacts. If you just upgraded to iOS 5 where you backing up your device on your computer via iTunes? You were advised to complete a backup prior to proceeding with the software update...if you did so then a copy of your back up should be available in iTunes. If you did not do a backup and you were not using iCloud to do backups then you would need re-sync your contacts from another source...did you use a contact manager on your computer (such as Outlook)? If you did then you can retrieve your contacts from there. Try looking at this link to see if it helps. If it is not the correct one you can do a search on that site to find the article that better fits your needs.

Pro Tools files imported to FCP X causing QuickTime movie problem

Well 2 days later and hours on the phone with Apple tech support Senior Advisors, and problem still not solved. HELP.
Everything works fine in FCP X, but when I create the QuickTime movie, it is way out of sync (by many seconds).
We have isolated the problem to audio files that I am exporting to Pro Tools, processing, and then importing back into FCP X. I can create a QuickTime movie with the original video/audio and it is fine.
Information
The original video came from Canon HF M40 camcorder: AVCHD (using MPEG4-AVC / H.264 compression codec), MTS format. Audio is 48kHz, 24 bits.
I used ClipWrap to rewrap the video into ProRes 422 and decompress the audio and save as LPCM.
I simply provide this FYI. As I said earlier, the original video works fine and the resulting QuickTime movie works fine. So the original files imported into the FCP project are not the problem.
The creation of the problem audio occurs as follows:
- Detach the original audio from the original video, and export
- Import this audio into a 48.0 kHz/16-bit Pro Tools HD session and EQ/limit the audio
- Import the resulting audio into FCP X (exact same length file, audio waveforms aligned with the original audio).
This audio works fine in FCP. It is in sync with the video, everything looks great.
I ran Pro Tools at 16-bits because a senior advisor told me FCP runs at 16-bits but does not convert imported stand-alone audio (as opposed to combined video/audio) to 16-bits; thus the Pro Tools session had to be at 16-bits. I changed from 24-bits to 16-bits, and this didn't solve the problem. (FYI, when Pro Tools imports the original audio exported from FCP, it says the audio is 24-bits, not 16-bits).
What is the problem?
The basic question is why does this audio cause QuickTime a problem?
Something is going on in the conversion to the QT movie. In FCP X, I don't have a way to play with the conversion variables except to set "Video and Audio" and "Use current settings" (which is ProRes 422).
The only difference I see between the original audio and the Pro Tools audio is that the original audio is stereo and Pro Tools works with dual mono files (L & R). The mono files work fine in FCP and I can't imagine why QT would have a problem with these, but I haven't tried converting the files to stereo before importing into FCP.
I should also mention that I selected the stabilization and roll correction algorithms in FCP. I assume these don't create problems in QT. I mention this because I didn't use them when I tested making a QT movie with the original video/audio files.
FCP and Pro Tools are used together all the time to do exactly what I am doing......improve the sound of the original audio. They are the premier video and audio professional programs. Of course, the final product is often not a QuickTime movie, but many times it is a QT movie.
What the heck is going on???
HELP.

(1) It is immediately out of sync. It even appears to be speeded up to me initially, but this is subjective. But it is clearly out of sync throughout, not a gradual drift.
(2) When I create the audio files in the Pro Tools session, the files are automatically stored in the audio folder of the Pro Tools session. So I don't actually have to go through an export process. I just close the Pro Tools session, then open FCP X and import the audio from the Pro Tools folder.
I'm not sure what additional specifications you seek, other than:
- wav files
- sample rate = 48 kHz
- Bit rate = 16-bits (and earlier I used 24-bits)
- Files are dual mono, rather than stereo (name_01.L.wav, name_01.R.wav). As I mentioned above, I have not yet tried converting these to stereo before importing into FCP, to see if dual mono causes an issue with QT. It does not cause a problem in FCP. I will try this today if we don't solve the problem.
(3) I can upload a portion of the audio to a server and send you a link to the file so you can download it. Is there a way to private message on the forum so I can get an email address to send you the link?

- Format - 1080p
- Resolution - 1920 x 1080
- Frame rate - 29.97p
- Audio channels - stereo

- Rendering format - Apple ProRes 422

Problems with rv042g after software upgrade

after software upgrade it reboot the router about every 45 sec
I've tried this tool from the Cisco website RV0xxV3_FirmwareRescueUtility_v4.0.0.7 without success, the problem is there, is a way you can get the router up and running again ?
Can i run a TFTP server and upload a new software, or i ther a FirmwareRescueUtility for rv042g ??

I am a Cisco network support engineer, I have a recommendation, before you upgrade any device in the future. Always keep in mind to make a backup of your data, in this way if you have to reset the device to factory settings you will not lose that information. Having said that, reset the router to the fabric configuration using the back little button, remember when you do that, you are going to loose your current configuration.

Also check that the ports 5353 and 5354 (Bonjour (mDNSResponder), AirPlay, Home Sharing, Printer Discovery) are open on Windows Firewall.

You are still under warranty and/or have AppleCare. Call them. Let them deal w/it.

Upgrading to 10.5 causes problem with Entourage

I have a problem which I believe to be a Mac OS problem even though it affects Entourage v.X. After upgrading the OS from 10.4 Tiger to 10.5.8 on a PowerPC Mac, Entourage crashes when opening mail that contains complex html. This only happens with the main user account and never happened before the upgrade. Email that only contains text and URL links opens OK. Logging out and back in to a new User, I am able to open and view the same emails that caused problems with the main user.

Generally when an application crashes in one account but it does in another account that indicates that something in the account where the application crashes is corrupt.
You have two choices then. You can either find out where the corruption is located and repair it or if that is too bit of job you can switch accounts.

N82 software upgrade caused corruption

I recently did a software upgrade on my handset, after completing the upgrade i noticed that Nokia Maps wasnt functioning correctly and when trying to take a photo i received a message stating the memory card was full. I then attempted to format the card and received a message saying the card was corrupt and cannot be formated. I then tried formatting the card in windows and dos using fat32 and receive messages saying the card is unreadable. Any advice? My phone is 2 months old.

Unfortunately there really are problems with the 2G cards included in some N82' packages; I used to have the same problem with mine: after taking few dozen of photos and shooting some movies, some of the large files (movies and even some photos) remained stucked on the damn card... there was no way to download them on my pc or recover them by any chance; I even tried all possible operations with a card reader. Lately I formatted the card but after a while same problems with corrupted files started to appear again :-S
My solution was to go for a Sandisk microSD-HC 4G and from then all those issues dissappeared.
