Sol10 Jumpstart on X86 insists on doing interactive install

Hi,
I've been using Jumpstart for long time installing both Solaris 8 and 10 for Sparc, however now I got a brand new X4200 so I'm trying to set up the same install environment for x86. Unfortunately I don't seem to be able to convince the installation process to use Custom Jumpstart, it always goes into interactive mode. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
My environment:
* DHCP and TFTP server running Debian Linux, this seems to work fine, the Sun gets its PXE bootinfo and loads the correct menu.1st file
* Solaris 10 6.06 x86 DVD image exported from a Sun (running Solaris 8 but that shouldn't matter), jumpstart files also served by this server
when the system boots I get the following feedback on the screen:
krtld: Unused kernel arguments: 'install - nowin'

Using sysid configuration file 10.221.60.206:/install/jumpstart10-x86/test/sysidcfg

Completing system identification...
After this I get dropped into the interactive text-based install
How can I convince the installer I want a completely unattended install?
Here are the content of my installation files

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Good point, I was already thinking that direction. It seems to fill in most questions correctly already except for the hostname, the fact that he needs to use NIS and the domain name. So I used another sysidcfg file from the Solaris 10 Sparc jumpstart installation and made sure the hostname/ip-address exists in the hosts map in NIS. But he's still asking the same questions.
------- new sysidcfg --------------
name_service=NIS { domain_name=sonytel.be name_server=cochonette(10.221.60.206)}
root_password=xxxxxxxxxxxxx
system_locale=C
timeserver=localhost

terminal=vt100
security_policy=none
network_interface=PRIMARY {netmask=255.255.255.192 protocol_ipv6=no default_route=10.221.60.254}
NIS has the right entry
ypcat hosts | grep 10.221.60.240
10.221.60.240 piro.mydomain.com piro
10.221.60.240 piro.mydomain.com piro
DNS is also correct
nslookup piro
Name: piro.mydomain.com
Address: 10.221.60.240
nslookup 10.221.60.240
Name: piro.mydomain.com
Address: 43.221.60.240
Doing a snoop on the NIS server reveals he's not even trying to reach the server.

  • Vmware install : interactive install does not launch

    Hello
    I have been struggling with a vmware install.
    first of all the stage configuring devices takes more than 4 hours. obviously i don't stay in front of the screen during all that time. that causes that i miss the timeout and it is supposed to start in interactive install but it does not. it just say timeout and then stays there.. nothing happens.
    is there a way to modify the grub to make the text mode default instead of the interactive graphic install? it is really important i install this before tomorrow. and it's been four days I have been trying.
    thank you.

    I see you're using FIrefox ESR. If that Firefox doesn't have this functionality don't think there is another one that implements this.
    Setting each Firefox to not update itself for all users (manually) it's not possible for what you need, no ?
    '''Firefox -> Options -> Advanced -> Update :'''
    Check
    '''Never check for updates.'''
    instead of
    '''Automatically install updates.'''
    You need this to work on how many machines ?

  • Elements Organizer 9 does not install with PS Elements

    I have installed Photoshop Elements Version 9 on a Windows 7 64 bit system. Photoshop Elements installs and works good... but the Organizer does not install and of course will not load either. I have uninstalled installed and reinstalled several times... still no luck.
    I can tell it is not installed because when I look in the Program Files (x86) under Adobe... the Photoshop Elements 9 folder is there but the Elements Organizer 9 is not there.
    How can I get organizer installed?
    Thanks...
    Rod

    Follow the below link, remove all the entries for PSE 9 from the machine and then try to install again. This time the organizer should get installed.

    If the program settings are set to hidden, it should be hidden. You do not need to specify any client settings. If you changed the program settings and the machines already had policy, you will have to wait up to your 60 minute policy setting or just manually
    kick off a policy update to see the new hidden program.
    If they are still getting the interactive install, then you need to troubleshoot if the machine has gotten proper policy. Run a 'Machine policy retrieval and evaluation cycle' manually, wait a few minutes and then test again.
    Suppress program notifications are the tray icons and bubble notifications about installations happening. Hidden is the method in which the executable/msi will install.

  • Patch 122647-04 does not install, no errors

    Hello!
    I have one machine with Solaris10/x86 here and want to install all patches which are listed by "smpatch analyze". But there is one patch (122647-04) which does not install at all. It is not even listed in /var/sadm/spool/disallowed_patch_list_report.
    For about four or five times I did an "smpatch update" and "init 6". The server reboots, but "smpatch analyze" tells me that 122647-04 is needed.
    I got this error a few times before, but after the third install the patches got in. What can I try now?
    TIA
    Stephan

    Unfortunately you haven't really given us much to go on.
    What I would suggest is that the next time you drop to single user mode and attempt to apply the patch manually. The error message (if it fails) should give you an indication as to what is going wrong.
    If the patch is amongst a great number of other patches, there is a chance that smpatch is attempting to install the patches in the wrong order, which would explain why it finally went in after the third attempt.

    There is no 'earlier' version that supports XP. iCloud launched with Vista/7 support only.

    I select SCAn and then select USB.  I select  " <i>" key. I do not find any data on the USB stick.
    What gives?
    I cannot install the software  on Windows 8

    Hi jvandal,
    The CD that came with the PIXMA MG5320 does not include Windows 8 drivers and softare, so you would have to download the drivers and software from our website.  Use the following steps to download the drivers and software:
    Go to Canon's Support & Drivers website at:
    http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer
    Enter your model name into the Model Name field, then click GO.
    Select your operating system in the Select Operating System and Select OS Version dropdown lists, respectively.
    Expand the Drivers section by clicking the red triangle.
    Click on the file named MG5300 Mini Master Setup.
    After reading the details and disclaimer, click 'I Agree Begin Download' and save the file to your computer.
    Once the download is complete, double-click the file from its download location to begin the installation.
    Once complete, click the I Decline Go Back to return to the download page.
    Expand the Software section by clicking the red triangle.
    Click on the file named MP Navigator EX Ver 5.0.0.
    After reading the details and disclaimer, click 'I Agree Begin Download' and save the file to your computer.
    Once the download is complete, double-click the file from its download location to begin the installation.

    There have been a number of problems with installing the latest iTunes on Windows 7 64-bit machines during the last couple of weeks.  You might want to do a search on that topic and see if anyone has a solution.  There have been various versions of the problem but a lot related to errors in the download package or failure to download.

    You should be able to Save as: iWork 08, but i don't know how it works on Mountain Lion. On my Snow Leopard the Save as window has a part looking like this
    Or you can send me the document if you are in a hurry and I save it as iwork 08 for you. Click on my blue name and you'll find my address.

  • I HAVE FF 3.6.21 DOES FF4 INSTALL OVER IT AND IMPORT ALL SETTINGS, BOOKMARKS, ETC AND CAN I GO BACK TO 3.6.21 IF I DON'T LIKE 4

    I HAVE FF 3.6.21 Is FF4 a completely new install or does it install over the existing installation. Does it import settings, bookmarks, stored passwords, etc or do I have to add all that. Lastly, if I don't like FF4 can I go back to FF3 easily

    Firefox 4 is no longer available. If upgrading, the only version that you can/should go to is Firefox 6.0.1, the current version. Firefox 7.0 is scheduled to be released on 09-27-2011 ('''''scheduled date is subject to change'''''). After Firefox 4.0, each upgrade replaces the prior version and the prior version is "abandoned" as far as security and stability updates are concerned.
    Installing Firefox 6 will preserve your prior bookmarks, passwords, etc. You can/should make a backup of your personal information for safekeeping; what if you have a hard drive failure?
    *See [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Backing+up+your+information Backing up your information] '''''and''''' [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_backup Profile backup]
    To test the new version 6.0.1 and leave your current Firefox 3.6.21 intact, you can install Firefox Portable. Firefox Portable is not produced by Mozilla (but is based on Firefox released versions) and is not supported on this site -- has its own support forum (see below). Firefox Portable installs in a separate folder on your hard drive and keeps its profile (personal information) separate so that it does not interfere with your current Firefox installation settings or personal information (bookmarks, passwords, etc.). You can also install Firefox Portable on a USB/thumb/pin/jump drive.

  • Does OS installed through boot camp or in virtual machine has access and full control of the peripherals like native OS X Lion?

    I am planning to buy new PC for my faculty needs and this time I am thinking to buy Apple laptop like Mac book Pro 13" or so ( I owe already IPhone and Ipad 2)
    To make final decision I need few information . These are:
    1. May I use Boot Camp or similar utility software to install Windows 7 OS next to OS X Lion, or use some kind of virtual box software to create virtual machines with diverse guest OS in them like Windows , Linux etc.?
    2. Does OS installed through Boot camp or in virtual machine has access and full control of the peripherals like native OS X Lion?
    3. May I use the same disk partitions to access to the files regardless if I am using Windows 7 or OS X Lion operating system?
    4. Is there full compatibility between Microsoft Office under OS X Lion and Windows 7 M. Office?
    5. What is general user experience with OS X Lion operating system comparing to Windows 7?

    1. Yes. You can install Windows 7 natively using Boot Camp Assistant or you can install Windows 7 in a virtual machine using Parallels, Fusion, or VirtualBox
    2. If installed using Boot Camp Assistant Windows 7 uses all your computer's resources just as OSx does. If installed using a VM Windows 7 will share the computer's resources with OSx.
    3. A Boot Camp partition is separate from the OSx partition. The VMs allow sharing of files across partitions since both OS are running at the same time.
    4. No, not 100%.
    5. Too broad a question. Be specific about what feature you are asking about or search the Internet for comparisons. I use both and find they both work well.

  • Acrobat X Pro does not install PDF toolbar in Firefox, but does in IE.  How to fix?

    Also, I see that Acrobat X Pro does not install all plugins.  There are several that I want shown as not installed.  But how can I get these installed, as there is no button to say "install this"??

    Got a partial fix - In Firefox, the Adobe PDF Toolbar gets installed in "Disabled" mode.  To enable, go to "Tools->Add-ons->Extensions", select "Adobe Acrobat - Create PDF" and enable it.
    Now, as for the rest of the Acrobat plugins, I'm still trying to find a way to enable them.  Any ideas?

  • Server 3 downloaded but does not install. HTTPS proxy error

    Hi all,
    Thanks for looking into my problem.
    I had a running OSX Mountain Lion with working OSX server 2.2.
    I upgraded to Mavericks (works fine) and server app 2.2 showed does not work. That is normal.
    I purchased the new server 3 app (i.e. OSX server for Mavericks) and it downloaded fine.
    But when I click the server app icon and the dialogue for installation starts it does not continue to install.
    The first question in continue, the server app then shows the license, after acceptance it starts a dialogue
    "To configure OSX server on this Mac an administrator account is required. Please enter your password"
    Upon entering the correct username and password a cryptic message appears:
    "An error occurred while communicating with the secure Web-Proxy-Server. (HTTPS)"
    (Or something like that: this was translated from German dialogues)
    I cannot find any feedback what this is about. The server 3 app ends then and the server software does not install or configure the OSX server to get it operational again.
    My Question:
    What is wrong or am I doing wrong?
    How can I fix this?
    Some more data:
    The original OSX server installation was an open domain server.
    Upon checking the DNS name as described in http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5300, the scutil --get HostName resolves the correct machine name (FQDN) but the host command does not resolve the correct DNS entry.
    I am really stuck on this.
    Can anybody please help?
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Many thanks already

    Hi all,
    I read that one should disable the SSL on a OSX server with Open Domain, prior to installing server 3. To double check: where is that configuration option hidden? How can I do this after upgrading the OSX client to Mavericks?
    Seems I have not done that prior to upgrading OSX from mountain lion to mavericks. Now server 2.2 is disabled and I cannot access the server and installing server 3 app does not work.
    Some details:
    As described in http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5300
    (start snip)
    OS X Server: Steps to take before upgrading or migrating the Open Directory database
    Disable SSL
    If you have SSL enabled, disable it before upgrading.

  • I downloaded 11.1.3.8 does it install over 11.1.2.32 or must I uninstall first?

    I downloaded iTunes 11.1.3.8. Does it install on top of 11.1.2.32 that is already installed or must I uninstall the prior version?

    My real concern in uninstalling was that I might lose any of the associated libraries containing music, podcasts, etc.
    Under normal circumstances, an uninstall/reinstall doesn't touch your content. (That being said, it's still always a good idea to maintain a current backup at all times in case of disasters of any sort.)
