Sol8 Jumpstart problem... client rebooting ??

Hi all,
I'm Jumpstarting a Netra T1AC200 with Sol8 and about 75% in to the finish script, the client reboots unexpectedly. I've changed the order of the finish script, and it's not a specific component of that which is causing the reboot. The Netra's need specific patches in order to be Jumpstarted. It had worked perfectly many times before, then I upgraded to a newer rev. of the patch and now I'm having problems. I also cannot find the original patches on sunsolve anymore. Anyone ever experience this, or have any ideas?
Thanks,
Eric

Hi - I'm having the same problem except that I'm using the original CD - not a copy. Did you ever firgure out what was causing the following error:
ERROR: Install boot image /cdrom/sol_9_404_sparc/Solaris_9/Tools/Boot does not exist

  • SCCM PXE client rebooting after preparing network connections

    Hi,
I have setup a virtual SCCM 2007 SP2 lab to test OSD and PXE booting but when i boot a bare metal client it loads the respective boot image, gets to the Config Manager splash screen (WinPE 3), a message says "Windows is starting" followed by "Preparing Network
    Connections" then the client reboots.
I initially thought this to be a network driver missing in the boot image so i injected the correct driver but i still have the same problem.
I enabled command support on the boot image and ran an ipconfig/all to ensure the NIC was obtaining an IP address which it was and it lists the NIC as the correct model.
Can anyone offer any advice as to what the issue may be?
Been pulling my hair out for a couple days now :(

  • Mac shut down due to problem; I rebooted fine. how do I determine what the problem was?

mac shut down due to problem; I rebooted fine. how do I determine what the problem was?

When shut down and rebooted, the Mac OS X does background maintenance on the system. That can solve minor issues.
Beyond this, it is a good idea to run Disk Repair yourself just to make sure.
Reboot with the option key held down. On the screen that comes up select the Recovery disk icon and Continue.
On the next screen Clcik Disk Utility and Continue.
In DU, in the list on the left select the drive to be repaired - click the item that is indented to the right, not an an item whose name starts on the far left.
Click First Aid, then Repair Disk.
After that is done, quit DU and restart as usual.

  • Active Directory problems/client log in issues

We have a Windows 2003 Active Directory Server running DNS, DHCP, and Active Directory.
We have a xserve g5 file server that serves the files for our school.
Our xserve will not join the kerberos domain on the 2003 Server. We have unbound, rebound, rebooted, repaired permisions, run the kron scrips, did a file system check, all that stuff. We have even done a check disk on the 2003 server. Any ideas as to what could be causing this?
On top of that our Mac users are unable to log in using active directory. Our pc users are able to log in but there profile mount does not mount. We have no ideas left as to what do do. Please help

    Hi Leif
I guess it would have been impossible to bind the
server without having done that first?
That is true, but I have had experience where the reverse pointer was not created due to a problem with DHCP reserved pools on the AD Server.
Having said that, it seems the DNS reverse (PTR
records) might not always be setup by AD setup
wizards depending on what is chosen at setup time
    ("small" or "big" AD?).
Exactly right. Forward lookup no problem, bound no problem, imported test users from AD user base, mcx etc, clients bind OK but can’t log in, tell-tale jiggle on the log in window everytime with the added ‘AFP or SMB is on another server etc’ message. Issuing host command reveals no reverse pointer for the ODM, you can never be too certain when it comes to DNS, its a good tip to test and test again and is saves a lot of problems later on.

    Regards,

    I have a similar problem:
    1) mount DVD ISO image using lofiadm and mount -F hsfs # no problems
    2) ./setup_install_server to /jumpstart/OS/Solaris_10_2008-10 # completes normally
    3) cd to /jumpstart/OS/Solaris_10_2008-10/Solaris_10/Tools

    # I supply 1=IP, 2=MAC ,3=name , 4=server IP, also tried a T5140 sun4v server.
    5) on client I reset all, then 'boot -s -v' with the following results:
cannot open neither boot_archive nor miniroot
    Enter filename [boot_archive]:
Looking at the results from snoop, its appears to have trouble navigating/opening the sparc.miniroot in /jumpstart/OS/Solaris_10_2008-10/boot from the platform/sun4u/ sub-dir link.
If I revert back to my 2008-05 build everything works. Is there anything I'm missing?

  • Sol10-U6 Jumpstart problem  - Where is 'patch_finish' script

Ever since I started using Sol10-U6, my jumpstarts have been marred by this problem. The install goes fine until the 'patch_finish' script is invoked. It appears the path '/cdrom' is hard-coded. I cannot find this script anywhere on my Sol10-U6 jumpstart server. Below is output from the install. I deleted around 10000 lines from the problem area. My 30 minute jumpstarts are now over an hour because of this.
So, Where is 'patch_finish' and how do I fix it?
    Thanks,
    Greg Piney

when you are in the system do a ls -l for /proc if there isn't one then:
    #mkdir /proc
    #mount /proc
also check is /proc is in your /etc/vfstab file.
    This solved my problem.

  • Credential Failure (solved by client reboot)

We are developing an app that goes against a 9.2.x database in our development environment. We've had SQLPLUS and other connections fail to establish at times with a "TNS-12638 Credential retrieval failed" message, typically after stress testing of the jdbc connected user interface.
Checking the server side shows no database errors and the sqlnet logs show the same credential failures.
The problem is resolved by rebooting client pc's, with no action required on the server at all.
Any ideas as to what we should do to avoid these errors??

After further searching, I found a clue here; seems mini-root on my jumpstart server did not point properly to the correct hosts, ipnodes, and netmasks files.

The jumpstart script bailed after the errors with /etc/hosts and never finished setting up the target disk for properly booting up.
Someone in my organization must have allowed the mini-root path to be shared as rw instead of just ro at some point.

  • Opensolaris jumpstart problem

    Hello all,
My problem is that I tried to configure a jumpstart server on my open solaris snv_111 and I haven't been able to add a client. Now I haven't logs here, but it seem's to be a netwok problem. I thing the problem is I that couldn't configure a static IP to my hostname, nwam don't let me. When I launch svcadm restart nwam, doesn't appear ip for primary network. I've configured /etc/hostname.nge0 and /etc/hosts, but nothing. I've configured /etc/nwam/llp to static and noipv6 but nothing. Furthermore it seems opensolares doesn't have in.rarpd service.

The second error occured after installing wireless mouse software that required a reboot.  This time I could get to the logon screen but my keyboard no longer worked.  In other words, there was a prompt for username and password but no keypresses were being registered.  Once again the only thing I knew of to do was to reinstall.
Is there anything I can do to be able to tell if there is some latent problem waiting to happen if I try and reboot? Or should I just keep the machine on all the time now?
    Thank you

  • SOAP Receiver Adapter problem (client certificate required)

My Scenario is similar to described in https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/weblogs?blog=/pub/wlg/3721. [original link is broken] [original link is broken] [original link is broken] I have two PI servers running on one machine. I am trying to post message HTTPS with Client authentication via SOAP adapter from one PI system to SOAP adapter of other PI server. I have done the following configuration.
PI Server AXD - (Client) - Receiver SOAP adapter
PI Server AXQ - (Server) - Sender SOAP Adapter.
    Steps in AXD
    1. I have created a certificate of AXD in the service_ssl view of key storage.
    2. I have imported the AXQ public certificate in to AXD in the TrustedCAs of Key storage
    Steps in AXQ
    1. I have created a certificate of AXQ in the service_ssl view of key storage.
    2. I have imported the AXD public certificate in to AXQ in the TrustedCAs of Key storage.
    3. I have created a user in AXQ and assigned the certificate of AXD under usermangement in Security provider to this user.
    4. I have added the AXD certificate under Client Authentication tab with require client certificate option checked in the SSL Provider.
    5. I have assigned the user created in AXQ in the step above to the Sender Agreement.
Now when I post message from AXD with Configure Client Authentication checked (Here I have selected the certificate of AXD and view as service_ssl) I am getting the following error.
Exception caught by adapter framework: SOAP: response message contains an error XIServer/UNKNOWN/ADAPTER.JAVA_EXCEPTION - java.security.AccessControlException: client certificate required at com.sap.aii.af.mp.soap.ejb.XISOAPAdapterBean.process(XISOAPAdapterBean.java:884) at com.sap.aii.af.mp.module.ModuleLocalLocalObjectImpl0_3
Any pointer to solve this problem is highly appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hi Hemant,
I have couple of questions. Why do we need to import certificate for SOAP WS-Security and from where I can get it?
As far as my scenario goes I am not using message level security.
Secondly what do you mean by TRUSTED/WebServiceSecurity? I don't see any such view inside the Key Storage.  I can see a view named just WebServiceSecuity though.
Also I don't have a decentralized adapter installation rather I have two separate PI instances having their own central adapter engine.

  • Problems with rebooting my imac

Ok heres the problem.....My 2007 imac has always worked fine untill a couple of months ago. Basically it had become so clogged up over the years that I had to erase the hard drive and start over. I have stupidly lost my install disks (apart from disk one of osx 10.4.1..Tiger I think) When I originally set it up from new, i dont recall using these disks..I think i installed leopard that came bundled with it (which i have also stupidly lost).
My bro lent me his copy of snow leopard which installed perfectly and for a while, it worked fine. It then started to become sluggish again so I rebooted a couple more times.
About 2 weeks ago I came home to find it stuck on the dreaded grey screen with the ? icon showing. I borrowed the snow leopard again and rebooted as before. Anyway this has continued over the last few weeks with me having to reboot. The other day however I tried to do it again and the imac would not acept the diskk and kept ejecting it during restart whilst holding down the c key, and the same happened when i tried holding down the alt key.
In my desperation to get it back on track, i restarted and loaded up disk one, mentioned above, in the hope that it would allow me to erase my hard drive again. To cut a long story short, i ended up erasing the hard drive and began installing from this disk. It then asked me to insert disk two to complete the set up (which i dont have) and unsuprisingly, it is now stuck...asking me for disk two.
When i insert this disk again to try and reboot again in order to erase the hard drive and then some how eject the disk, i just get a white screen with the turning wheel symbol...
Im at my wits end and feel sure that ive wrecked it!
Any advice would be greatly appreciated...im thinking that maybe i need to try and get hold of a complete set of osx 10.4.1 discs???

It's likely that the hard drive was becoming unreliable after years of use.  That's probably the reason for the "sluggishness," and why you had to do all the re-installs.  I have a "Late 2006" iMac (the last iMac model with a white non-metallic case), and the only thing that has ever gone wrong on it is the hard drive becoming unreliable.  So I replaced it (a few years ago), and it's still going strong.
However, you should be able to boot from the optical drive, using that Snow Leopard disc.  Try starting up with the Option key held down.  This should give you the Startup Manager screen, where you can choose from available startup choices.  Insert the Snow Leopard disc at this screen.  If it becomes available as a choice, choose it and continue the startup.
At the first Installer screen, you can go up to the menu bar, and from the Utilities menu, select to run Disk Utility.  Does your internal drive appear in the Disk Utility sidebar?  From here, you can do things like erase the hard drive.  If you select the DRIVE in the sidebar, there is a field along the bottom of the window called S.M.A.R.T. Status.  That may provide some indication about health of the drive.  You can also do a File -> Get Info on the drive, to see additional details about the drive.
im thinking that maybe i need to try and get hold of a complete set of osx 10.4.1 discs???
Do NOT get a 10.4.1 disc.  The Intel Macs were released during Mac OS X 10.4 run, but not until about 10.4.6 or so.  That 10.4.1 disc is for older PowerPC Macs only.  Actually, ALL retail Tiger (10.4.x) installation discs are only for PowerPC Macs.  Instead, you should buy the Snow Leopard (10.6) disc from Apple, which they still sell from the online Apple Store for $20.

  • Dual Monitor problem on reboots

I have a dual monitor setup with nvidia video card  and XFCE Desktop and I am having a minor irritating issue...
Sometimes when I boot up my dual monitor setup is fine, one monitor is set as left side and the other is right, set to span between the two. xrandr shows one as DVI-I-1 and the other as VGA-1
Other times on a reboot, both will start as identical and I will need to fix the resolution and set xrandr to span (I have written a small script to do this when the need arises). At these times xrandr shows DVI-I-1 and VGA-2, so I see that that is where the problem comes from...
My question is first: WHY does it seemingly randomly switch between VGA-1 and VGA-2, and second: how to fix it?

Maybe just a point in the right direction to where I should look...

  • Strange problems with rebooting

Got a 27'' iMac about two weeks ago. Recently, it began to have difficulties rebooting; it gets to the blue screen and hangs there. I press the power button briefly, and it shuts off; when I press it again to try rebooting again, it shows the desktop instantly, fully logged in, applications started, etc.
Then I can't use mouse or keyboard for about two minutes. I can see the cursor moving, but it can't interact with anything. Then it begins working, and everything is normal. Except that the magic mouse's two-finger swipe doesn't work.
I've reinstalling Snow Leopard already; it works fine until the second reboot. It starts up fine in safe mode, though the two-finger swipe doesn't seem to work there either. Logging in as another user doesn't help either, nor does reinstalling the wireless mouse update.
This whole thing is making me a bit nervous about this computer's integrity. Any help would be much appreciated.

When you press the power button briefly on the new iMac, you are not shutting down r restarting the iMac; you are just putting it to sleep or waking it from sleep. So you see everything just as you left it instantly.
As for the mouse and keyboard not responding quickly, the issue must be your bluetooth settings in either System Preferences/Bluetooth or /Mouse and /Keyboard that is causing a delay to pair the bluetooth devices or find them after they have been paired. Sorry I'm not quite on Snow Leopard yet so not the best person to tell you what you'll see as it's a little different I think than on Leopard. But I hope I pointed you in the right direction. If may be a problem related to devices being "discoverable" so you might toggle that off or on depending on how you currently have it selected. You may want the mouse and keyboard to be able to wake the computer from sleep but I understand that is the default setting. Perhaps some settings changed on the re-install of Snow Leopard. Good luck.
