How can I backout or down version an OS installed package ?

Unjar your files and you might see the premissions are not set for the post or pre scripts. I am not sure if this is a feature or there for protection in forcing one to install the patches by had , if you down load the zip version the perm are probable set.

  • Problem found installing MW 2.07 full install - patch 6633988

We have just learned of a problem with this version which will prevent you from successfully signing on to the MW once it has been installed.
    <BR><BR>
There is a simple workaround documented in our FAQ note in the section called "Installation and LivePatches". Alternatively, you may instead decide to download the 2.05 full install via patch 6398371, and then apply 2.07 using the LivePatch feature within the MW.
    <BR><BR>
We strongly recommend that you choose one of these two options for success in using the Maintenance Wizard version 2.07. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you.

    Hi,
I am getting the exact same error while installing DS 5.2 Patch 6 (115614-28). I did not find any solution for it till now. Did you find the solution for this? Any reply would be a great help to us.

  • How to find the latest/greatest full install patch of 11Gr2?

    Hi Folks,
I just cannot seem to find anything readily in MOS at Oracle...
I understand that these days, the patches they put out are no longer just fixes to pieces of the database, but for some reason, they are now full blown installs.
So, rather than download from OTN and install and then have to patch...I'd rather go to MOS and download the patch and install that as my fresh database install.
My trouble is, I can't find the darned thing looking through the patch area, without knowing the patch number..etc.
What do ya'll do when wanting to find the latest version for a fresh install?
A further question..how are ya'll treating this new patch paradigm where they seem to expect you to do fresh installs just to patch up a level? Do you all have the resources to do a new install and migrate over...or do you migrate in place which the documentation seems to warn your off from doing?
    Thanks in advance,

The installer should detect or ask if you are doing a patch and handle the 'upgrade' conversion for you. At least it does when upgrading Grid Infrastructure. I'll find out about databases next week. ;-)

Does anyone know if/how I can remove old, obsoleted patch versions to free up some space? Is it recommended to use patchrm -f to remove old patch versions? I am hoping that I can avoid re-installing Solaris 10 and, in doing so, make my / partition larger.
Also, I have noticed that Sun Update Manager (SUM) cannot install all available patches. Some patches are evidently signed, and will not install. The only way I have been able to install them is to separately download the unsigned version of the patch and use patchadd -Gd. Is this normal, or am I doing something wrong, or can I somehow reconfigure SUM to change this behavior?

Command patchrm will remove patch and restore old version of patched files. Saved files are stored in /var/sadm/pkg/"PKG_NAME"/save/"PATCH_NO". You can remove these files, but you will not able to restore these files with patchrm. I found this example somewhere in the internet. It removes all saved patches older then 365 days.
    Example:
    find /var/sadm/pkg/*/save/??????-?? -type d -mtime +365 -prune | xargs rm -r
I use smpatch (simple "smpatch update" command) utility, but i think it is probably same as SUM. smpatch downloads patches to /var/sadm/spool. When patches are successfully installed then they are deleted from this directory otherwise they remain there. They are downloaded as jar archives /var/sadm/spool/??????-??.jar and then unpacked into var/sadm/spool/??????-??.jar.dir. When you delete these files/directories, smpatch will just have to download them again when it is necessary. Log files can be found in /var/sadm/patch/??????-??.
I have only problems with patches for Sun Studio. I must patchadd -G them manually from /var/sadm/spool. Sometime smpatch wants to install absurd patches but then installing simply failed.
I must say, that if you delete files, you do it at your own risk!!!

  • 9_Recommended patch cluster breaks ssh

    Hi all,
I recently installed the latest 9_Recommended patch cluster and it has rendered ssh inoperable. I get the following error when I try to start ssh:
ld.so.1: sshd: fatal: libgss.so.1: open failed: No such file or directory
In doing some research, it seems that there is now a dependency on the SUNWgss packages. I either need to find a place where I can get this package from or remove the patch that has broken ssh.
    Any ideas?

    number 1 worked for him
    1) Turn off GSS-API support in ssh_config(4) and
    sshd_config(4)
    Add to /etc/ssh/ssh_config and /etc/ssh/sshd_config:
    GSSAPIAuthentication=no
    GSSAPIKeyExchange=no
    2) Configure /etc/krb5/krb5.conf (even if Kerberos V is not in use) so
    it contains no syntax errors.

  • Passcode for installing cluster patch

    Hi,
I installed solaris 10 for x86 and now I would install cluster patch.
I downloaded zip cluster and unzipped in a dir.
When I start installation with "install_cluster" script, it ask me a passcode saying that in needed to allow install_cluster to continue running.
I never have seen a passcode for a cluster patch.
    Anyone can help me please?

This thread prompted me to try to reproduce what was seen by the original post.
I have an old Pentium-III 440BX system with Solaris 10 GA (3/05) installed and never patched.
    So ...
    1. Ignore my earlier comments about signed versus unsigned patches.
It doesn't apply to the full cluster, only individual patches that you might download, sometime.
    2. Yes, it pays to read the documentation.
The README file is clear about the passcode of "newboot".
    3. That README file also cautions about the potential for multiple reboots,
depending on how far down-rev the system might be.
The document suggests three reboots could happen.
    My old box needed four.
The cluster update script initiated the reboots.
The old 440BX chipset board interpreted the reboot signal
as a kernel page fault panic, sync'd the filesystems, and bounced the box.
No manual intervention was needed to cause the reboots.
I just had to start the update process all over again after each restart,
then sit back and watch the return codes tell me that such-and-so patch was
already installed, then finally get far enough along to apply the next patches per the script.
I'm now fully patched. Running showrev on a bunch of the patch numbers confirms it.
Curious, though. GRUB was installed but it's not being used.
The old x86 box is still using the original bootloader. No big deal.
I had been thinking of wiping that 7.5GB drive and installing the current release, anyway.

BCA creates the partition as FAT, which the installer needs to format.

  • Is it possible to have 64-bit 11g Full Install and 32-Client on 1 computer?

    Here's why I ask:
I have installed a full 64-bit 11g R2 install on my Windows 7 D: drive, installed two DB's, worked great. Then I realized application I need to support (Cognos 10.1) requires 32-bit client (for drivers) so I installed the 11g client also on D: drive as well (for space reasons).
My problem is that my registry only shows one ORACLE_HOME--the 64-bit full install whereas Cognos reqs to point to 32-bit client.
My sqlplus in the 64-bit OH worked fine (D:\oracle\app\dock\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1\BIN\sqlplus.exe) whereas the 32-bit client sqlplus (D:\oracle\client\app\dock\product\11.2.0\client_1\BIN\sqlplus.exe) did not work. The error was:
    SQL*Plus: Release 11.2.0.1.0 Production on Mon Sep 26 18:02:30 2011
Copyright (c) 1982, 2010, Oracle. All rights reserved.
    Enter user-name: cognos
    Enter password:
    ERROR:
    ORA-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error
Any login id (sys, system, etc) gave same error. 64-bit sql-plus worked fine. If I opened a cmd prompt and navigated to the 32-bit sqlplus under the client this WOULD work to login (but then I noticed it was using the 64-bit ORACLE_HOME and PATH settings if I typed set). In order to fix Cognos, I changed my ORACLE_HOME and path to point to the 32-bit client (i.e. from D:\oracle\app\dock\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1 to
    ORACLE_HOME = D:\oracle\client\app\dock\product\11.2.0\client_1
    PATH = D:\oracle\client\app\dock\product\11.2.0\client_1\bin;C:\Program Files (x86)\NVIDIA Corporation\PhysX\Common;%SystemRoot%\system32;%SystemRoot%;%SystemRoot%\System32\Wbem;%SYSTEMROOT%\System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\;C:\Program Files\ThinkPad\Bluetooth Software\;C:\Program Files\ThinkPad\Bluetooth Software\syswow64;C:\Program Files\Intel\WiFi\bin\;C:\Program Files\Common Files\Intel\WirelessCommon\
Guess what? This stopped both the 64-bit and 32-bit sqlplus from working, even after bouncing the computer. Now the listener (64-bit) OracleOraDb11g_home1TNSListener will also not start either.
Sooooo, I think I need to set the OH and PATH back to the 64-bit as that is what the Listener requires but any ideas how to get the 32-bit sqlplus to also work?!? The Cognos application appears to use the default server settings (most likely from ORACLE_HOME and Path) and in it I just type the name of the database and connection string, there's no real way to point it anywhere to differentiate. If it doesn't find 32-bit drivers it throws an error hence the reason I need the client sqlplus, etc to work.
Thanks in advance for any help!

  • How to install a patch from local JAR file...

    Newbie question -
I'm getting an error when deploying an MDB on WL 10.0 - someone else had also come across that same error and he sent me a patch (CR326377_10GA.jar) that should fix it.
How do I install that patch on my local WinXP installation of WL - do I just add an entry to the CLASSPATH of the startweblogic.bat file? I'm a little concenred about the order of JARs there... is there a better way?!
I tried looking up this patch using the Smart Update utility - but I could not find it there - how do I do it manually?

I believe you can contact support and get a patch id and passcode for this
patch and then install using smart update.
StartWeblogic.cmd will also look for a weblogic_patch.jar in the patch
    directory. I.e. something like
    d:\BEA10\patch_wls100\profiles\default\sys_manifest_classpath\weblogic_patch.jar
Cut/paste the directory from the output of startweblogic.cmd and then create
the directory and copy the patch to the right filename.
Or you can put the patch before any other jars in the classpath.

  • Error while installing a patch for Mainwin 5.0.2 on Solaris 2.8

    Hi,
I am relatively new in this field, so i apologise for any slip-ups.
We use a Solaris 2.8-SPARC server. I was given an external drive which contained the porting software Visual Mainwin 5.0.2 and was told to install it from the drive. On checking it, i found that the entire folder structure of the software was damaged, i.e. every file of the software was changed to uppercase. UNIX being highly case-sensitive, i manually changed each and every file present in the software directory to lowercase and then ran it.
The software ran fine, it got installed and the license server was also up. the licenses were also nicely distributed. everything was fine until i was asked to install the patch 'vmw502_sunos5_HF1.sh'. While installing i got the following output :
    # sh vmw502_sunos5_HF*

  • How do I reinstall mac os x 10.5.8 without a full install dvd?

I am needing to reinstall Mac OSX 10.5.8 but don't have the original disk the macbook came with. I have tried using a Snow Leopard full install DVD but I keep getting the error message of "OS X cannot be install on this macbook" (paraphrased). I have tried resetting the PRAM and NVRAM but still nothing.
Any one know how to do this?

Using a Snow Leopard install package will not re-install Leopard.
If you tried using a Snow Leopard install package to install Snow Leopard that shipped with a new Mac purchase, the OS X install package that ships with a new Mac purchase is model specific.
Contact Apple or AppleCare to request a replacement Leopard install package that shipped with your Mac when new.

  • Boot Camp Slipstream Says a Full Install is an Upgrade, Stalls Out?

I'm attempting to install XP on a 2.16 GHz C2D MBP with Snow Leopard. I have created a 20gb partition using the Boot Camp Assistant. I have created a slipstream CD-R from a combination of a XP SP1 disc (bought the first day XP was released!) and the FULL SP2 service pack as recommended. I followed instructions for the slipstream creation to the letter. Same for the CD.
The install starts up and I declare I want a full install and not a recovery. Then I receive an error notice telling me I have an upgrade disc and must use a FULL copy for the install. Without a way to eject the slipstreamed disc and put the full SP1 disc in, for verification, I am stuck. I see no mentions of this problem anywhere.
I have seen comments concerning similar issues suggest a problem in the disc creation. But I have done the process three times now, revealing all hidden files and ensuring the use of the same legacy burning software mentioned in the slipstream creation posts.
As Boot Camp still offers to download necessary files, a feature that apparently NEVER worked, I am interested to know if anyone can really help me. I live in China and see boot camped Macs everywhere. But they all have hacked copies of XP or 7 running. I want to use a legal copy. How?
I'm installing XP to keep access to great scanners unsupported on Mac and play older videogames.

If you've already done a search in these forums and couldn't find anything then your best bet would be a Yahoo/Google search, (or what ever is used over there.)
Unfortunately it sounds like it still didn't slipstream right, have you tried using it on a Windows machine and see it it works?
Another option is to download a non legal version ( if you can find a "clean" version) then just install your legal serial number. Or even a friends copy of a SP2 or SP3 version and use your serial number instead. From what i've read quite a few gave up and did the same.
