Solairs 9 x86 burning question

So I downloaded the DVD one first, and I thought I burned it right but got a no boot loader found thing. So I'm like OK... SO I downloaded the CD version, well there are a few files that came with the installation RAR file. I don't know which one to burn to the CD. Could someone please tell me? Thanks

I doubled-checked to confirm that the Solaris 9 DVD downloads are offered in small chunks that have to be unzipped and put together to form a single .ISO image. So I'm not sure what you mean by "the download had only one file".
Can you give more detail about what file it says it needs and is there? When you mount the DVD on a running system, it should look like this at the top level:

I have a few questions that might seem a bit silly.
I am a JAVA novice and need a bit of help.

like to have a clickable piece of text(my e-mail addy) that starts
up the users e-mail. Do i create a URL object? Is there a platform

    * Also in my help menu for the application how do i make my event

open up a .htm file in the users browser with my help topics?
Do i use the exec process methods? Is there a platform independant

However the professional way to do it is to use an installer (just like almost every other software package you've ever installed). There are several available that specialize in Java installations, even some free ones.

  • External cd burner questions...

O.K. folks, my lame questions of the day.
I have a G3 iBook (specs below) with cd read only. I have a Sony CRX 1600L firewire cd burner that I would like to use to back up my iTunes purchases.
I used this a few months ago and somehow, (gulp) fried my HD. I think that what I did wrong was disconnecting the burner from the iBook without ejecting properly. That, I believe is why i'm the proud owner of a new 60 GB hd. I'm a little gun shy now, can you blame me? Problem is is that my iTunes purchases are g-r-o-w-i-n-g! (Backed up on my iPod).
So here the questions, when connecting the burner to the Mac are both off then power them up? Should one or the other be powered before the other?
I really don't want to buy another HD again, so if their is a logical, sequential order of using/ connecting external firewire devices I'd love to be educated. (Both the iBook and Sony cd burner were a packaged deal from ebay, so no manuals).
Also is their a way to export music from an iPod to another authorized Mac?
    Thank you in advance,
    Lee

Since you don't have the discs, you may want to be a little more conscientious about maintenance:

You can use Safe Mode any time that Repair Disk from the OS X 10.3 Install CD is recommended. However, if things have gone downhill badly, sometimes you can start up from the CD (you don't have) when you can't start up at all from the hard drive (including starting up in Safe Mode).
If you don't leave the iBook on 24/7 (as I do mine; I just sleep the display), you will want to use some utility or run the maintenance routines through Terminal. I leave mine on all the time so they run automatically overnight.
I'd be looking for those discs, Lee, before you need them.

  • External DVD Burner Questions

I am looking into purchasing an external firewire/USB 2.0 DVD burner with Lightscribe for my PowerMac G5. I have 2 questions: 1) Do Apple stores (at the mall) sell DVD burners? I cannot remember if I seen one there or not. 2) What burner would you recommend? I need one with Lightscribe and would like to have firewire. The USB 2.0 is not necessary. I want an external drive if possible as well. Thank you for your help and advice!

Be aware that lightscribe technology is still quite in its infancy and others have had trouble with it. In addition, any attempt to label disks often yields in unstable shorter-lived disks than leaving the existing label side empty. I use jewelcase inserts to keep track of my disks.
If you must get lightscribe, some Apple Stores do sell LaCie Lightscribe drives occasionally. I've not always seen it there, and it really depends on the stock. You can look up places like http://www.macconnection.com/ http://www.maczone.com/ http://www.cdw.com/ and http://www.macsales.com/ for possible compatible drives. In addition, http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/ has a good drive database to search from compatible drives.

  • Burning Question (unreliable Toast)

    Hi.
    A problem and some questions.
My Toast (6.1.1) keeps freezing and Force Quit doesn't work.
I have deleted pref files (found two), reinstalled, cretaed new user, to no avail.
That's the problem. Now the Q's:
    1
I prefer Toast over DVDSP as you can control burning speed. But having said this, I did burn today from DVDSP (I have the bundled version that comes with FC Studio 5) and it plays well on two stand alone DVD players I tried. I used Verbatim X16 media. Is burning speed still an issue?
    2
If I go buy Toast 7 will it stop hanging on me?
    3
Any ideas as to how I can fix my Toast?
(First thing this morning I was able to use Toast, the computer had been off all night... does that make a difference?)
    Thanks a mill,

I prefer Toast also. As to the speed issue, it may be a non issue if they are playing okay. Where are the DVDs going? Clients? Friends & family? Youself? If clients then you need to be absolutely sure (different story if replicating discs and this is just samples, you can explain the issue of whaat cause playback problems from time to time), the later, you can always fix it.

    Not sure

Sounds like you did some of the troubleshooting, have you tried also repairing permissions or run diskwarrior? Sounds like if shutting it off then starting it up cured the problem, the boot up clean up repairs may have helped. Are you using an external Burner? Do you have any FW peripherals attached? Sometimes I have had hangs like that from bad cables or power supply coming slightly off, look liked power but not really getting to the device. After the reinstall to you go back to 6.1.1 (or is that your install?) I had an earlier version of 6 that I had to upgrade to 6.1.1.
Has the sytem changed recently? (It sounds like Toast had been okay until now?)

  • Quick cd burning question

i have just recently switched from a mac to a pc running arch. So far i love arch and how customizable the package selection is. I just have a question as to burning cd's. I have a few .dmg files that are for a mac. My friend is needing a copy these files but i dont want him to have them. Since my mac is no longer of use i got rid of it. Is there any application for arch that will allow me to burn a dmg file. I have ran both gnomebaker and k3b and both programs do not see a dmg file as a valid iso file. PLEASE HELP

I've not tested it, but maybe dmg2iso.pl works.

  • DVD Burn Question

This question could very easily have a common sense answer that I am overlooking at the moment...
I made a copy of a DVD that contained a show. It burned successfully and will play if you manually open it from the DVD player. My questions is, how do I get it to play automatically when the disc is inserted into the computer? Does it need to be burned from a different program other than the finder or a burn folder?
    PowerMac G5   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

See...the problem is...the people viewing this DVD will more than likely be on a PC. I took it to one of my co-workers to see if they could view it. The computer wouldn't even recognize that there was a disc in the drive. Something is screwy here and I am wondering if there is some kind of copyright issue. It was a DVD of a show sent to my boss that deals with the nature of the business, but they only sent one copy and my boss requested another copy... the only solution at this point may be to just request additional copies...

  • CS3 (Design Premium) Activation x86/x64 Question(s).

I've checked around the forums a little and found a few posts about 64-bit Windows, but wanted to ask before I return to college.
I had a laptop running Windows Vista Ultimate (32-bit), installed, registered, and activated CS3 Design Premium that I got from college and everything was fine for about a year. While on medical leave from college that laptop fried (I wasn't able to deactivate it first) and I bought a new one. This laptop has 64-bit Vista Home Premium and I have been told by fellow students and Professors that there are issues with CS3 on x64 which seems to counter a few of the things I have read on these forums.
So I guess my main question is, since I have to use pretty much all of the apps in the suite for different classes, do I dare install it on the x64 copy of Vista and pray it doesn't break when I have a deadline or should I install it into x86 Virtual Machine that I have installed for some of the other applications I need to run (the VM is kind of sluggish for some reason already, don't want it to snail crawl running multiple Adobe apps as well)?  The only other option I really have at this point is to attempt to install it on an x86 version of Windows 7 RC, than reinstall again when I can put Windows 7 Ultimate final (probably x86) in October.
    Sum it up:
Should I install on Vista Home Premium 64-bit?
Should I install on Vista Ultimate 32-bit (Inside a VM)?
    Should I install on Windows 7 RC/Final?
    {Note: Due to medical reasons, the desktop is hard for me to use for longer timeframes without issues}

You'll get no guarantees about any one particular system but CS3 is fully supported under Vista 64 (with the exception of Home Basic). I'm running it on Vista 64 Ultimate along with CS4 with no operating system related issues.

  • Another DVD burn question with twist:PE7 vs PE11

After 2 hours with courteous Adobe chat session, studying the forum, FAq, burning lots of dvds, trying lots of settings, I shall throw out a last plea for insight.
If I make a dvd or dvd folder with premiere elements 11 and it has any high def video in the project; it comes out blurry.  Strangely, any still photos in the project come out blurry too.
If I make the same dvd with the same high def files using premiere elements 7, it comes out great.  (i.e. dvd quality; I'm not expecting high def).  Also the still photos are much better!!
Incidentally, I opened the project settings tab on both programs simultaneously side by side, and they are exactly the same.
I do know by now that my "new" HP computer with 2.4GHz processor does not have quite the specs to burn blue ray disc, AVCHD file.
    so my questions:
Main one:  Any ideas how I can tweak my PE11 to make it output like PE7?  (don't worry, I turned off screen saver, etc).  Any insight into why the difference?
Trivial one: why would the still photos output differently.
    thanks

    >I do know by now that my "new" HP computer with 2.4GHz processor does not have quite the specs to burn blue ray disc, AVCHD file.
The only computer spec that matters when it comes to whether or not you can burn a BluRay disc is whether or not you have a BluRay disc burner. So I don't think that's the issue.
And I do assume you know that DVDs have only about one-sixth the resolution of high-def video -- so, particularly when you're looking at full-screen on your computer, DVDs are never going to look at clean or detailed as your original high-def.
But that said, you can try using Publish & Share/Computer/AVI to output an AVI of your AVCHD project, then start a new project, add your AVI to the timeline and output your DVD from that. That will likely give you much better results than outputting directly from AVCHD.

  • Burning question please help!

I am trying to burn a wedding DVD and have done this many times before without problem. Now, I continuously get a media error at stage 4. I switched media, (was using a cheaper, printable brand) to use an apple disk...which worked once. I am trying to burn additional copies on apple disk's and we are now back to the media error. I have a few questions...I have 26 GB of memory available. Is this enough? Is this why I am having the media problem that I have not had before? I am not sure why I don't have more space as I have always had about 36 GB's available. I am desperately trying to find files to delete to give me more space, but am having no luck...and don't want to delete the wrong files. Any ideas on how to find what is taking so much space that I can get rid of? Thanks in advance for any help.

I suggest you get the free download Mac Sweeper which you will find on http://mac.softpedia.com/get/System-Utilities/Mac-Sweeper.shtml
Also try using the Easter Egg workaround to burn a disc image which can then be burnt to a DVD-R using Disk Utility.
It is also called "Hurz and Pfurz", and is available as a free download from
    http://homepage.mac.com/geerlingguy/macsupport/mac_help/pages/0015-burn_idvdother.html
    iDVD5 has this built in.
Now I would recommend the following steps but first make sure there is about 20GB free on the internal HD:
    1) Shut down/Restart without any applications running.
    2) Run Mac Sweeper carrying out all the optimize options including repair permissions and, under clean, empty caches.
    3) Launch iDVD and the project
    4) "Burn" a copy to disc to hard disc using the Easter Egg workaround.
    5) Go to bed and have a good night's sleep.
    6) When the run is finished (always for me 1 hour in less than 8 hours) examine the DVD image and play it using the DVD player in the applications folder
    7) If and when satisfied and burn a copy using Disc Utility, full instructions on
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=42724
but you just use the second half to burn the DVD.
This approach means you can readily produce multiple copies. I have taken to burning the DVD without any other applications running as I think too much going on may cause bad spots on the disc.

  • DVD audio burning question

Hi. [Sorry, I'm new here incase it's in the wrong catagory]
I'm a switcher from PCs to a Mac.
I've got a question; I have some audio files that are in a 6 channel DTS audio format. Is there a way I can burn them on a DVD and preserve the DTS audio? I bought Final Cut Studio 2 with my Mac and it's saying that it doesn't recognize the files.
Any help I can get would be great.
    Thanks a lot!

    Hey Kevin
Toas should allow you to "copy" a DVD from one drive to another, so I'd put the master into your Mac, and the blank DVD into your new drive, open Toast, click the "Copy" tab, and you should be good to go.

  • I am losing my mind...a "burning" question

i am fairly new to imovie and idvd. but i have been a mac user for decades. i took a lot of dv over the holidays. i have imported some...i didn't want to overload the hd. (i have over 20 gigs free). then i did some editing with imovie. then i bought some apple dvd-r discs from apple. the speed is 8x. i have tried a lot of different things and i can not get this movie to burn. when i use these same discs to try and back up -- which usually works -- it won't allow me to. it can not be my drive because i just backed some work up to a fuji cd-r (up to 48x). and that worked just fine. so is it me? do i need to read a manual? is there a manual? or could it be these apple discs and their 8x? i want to finish these darn holiday movies but i am ready to jump out of a window! please help!
    G4 DeskTop   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   i am using imovie & idvd 4

Well the first question is, do you actually have a SUPERDRIVE that can burn DVDs or do you have a Combo drive that can only read DVDs but not burn them? You wouldn't be the first person to assume their drive can burn DVDs only to check closer and find out they can't.
Go to the Apple menu up there in the top left corner. Pick the About This Mac option, then click the "More info..." button. Under hardware, click the "ATA" choice which will show you info about your hard drive and optical drive. My optical drive shows up like so...
    PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-107D:
    Manufacturer: PIONEER
    Model: PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-107D
    Revision: A707
    Drive Type: CD-RW/DVD-RW
    Disc Burning: Apple Supported/Shipped
    Removable Media: Yes
    Detachable Drive: No

  • Mosaic print/cd burner question

I have been having problems burning cds from ITunes. I have a Dell utilizing a Sony cd/dvd burner. Recently, I have been using Memorex blank cds to burn itunes mixes but the cd burner does not work with them. When I use a Sony blank cd, all is well. However, when I go to print the burned cd using the mosaic type, it does not work. However, former playlists do show up in mosaic mode.
I suspect the cd/dvd burner is malfunctioning somewhere along the line.
    What do you think?
    Advice is much appreciated.

After posting this question, I did a google search on Memorex cd/r products a found a whole host of messages imploring users NOT to buy Memorex products. Apparently they adversely affect the burner's hardware and software and new drivers need to be installed.
This is probably why my cd burner is not working -- not because of ITunes but because of the cd that I am using and will not be using in the future.
Stay away from Memorex, in other words, or at least those who have SONY burners.

  • CD burner question

    Hello,
My Pioneer 107D burner no longer recognizes CD's and I've tried just about everything to fix it. Two questions:
    - Where can I find the latest firmware update for Mac? (the French site mentioned in other posts no longer exists)
    - Would it be better to replace the internal drive with a new 110D or to get an external drive? What externals would you recommend?
I'm a digital photographer and have a growing list of clients who need CDs of shoots from me and I'm getting a little desperate....ack!

yeah, i've been going nuts because every article about firmware links to some part of the rpc1.org site and it seems to be down.
but i guess firmware won't help me. question: if the drive is broken does it seem odd that it still shows up in the "about this mac" info?
also - i'm a little intimidated of installing a new drive - don't really know how to get the original one out of there...do you know any articles that might walk me thru it?
    thanks!!

  • CD/DVD Burning Question

I'm trying to burn an MP3 disc and I seem to be having an issue. I'm using Memorex CD discs. When I burn an MP3 disc and try to play it in my car, my car can't read the disc or it might read it but doesnt play correctly. When I use my Toshiba laptop to burn MP3 discs, my car reads the discs just fine.
Is it a drive issue or maybe a CD type issue? Does my laptop only like certain discs?
    I have a DV6-6140US.

    Hi,
I believe not all CD burners support all blank CD's. One of my laptops does not read one kind of DVD's which are the cover DVD's from a monthy PC magazine. Just try a different brand to see.
    Regards.
