Solar power and iBook

Does anyone have experience with charging iBooks with solar power? I want to know whether I need a true sine wave inverter or whether modified sine wave (cheaper!) will work.

Joanivh,
Check the watt rating on both adaptors. I think mine says 45 watt. If they're the same, and they use the same type of plug, then it should be fine.

  • Is ibook g4s power adaptor and ibook g3 snows power adaptor same

hi.im buy a ibook g3 snow but it doesn't have a power adaptor.so i wanna buy a ibook g4's power adaptor.is is ibook g4s power adaptor and ibook g3s power adaptor same?

it will work but it is not advisable, ibook g3 requires a rating less amperage than the G4 and therefore comes with a 45w power supply (1.85 x 24.5 V) not 65W (2.65 x 24.5). Using the 65W the battery will wear out first and the logic board will be subjected to greater sress reducing life itself

  • Ibook abruptly lost power and will not power on

I have a G4 Ibook. I have had it since Jan 06. I just got it back from having the optical drive replaced since it quit last April. All was working fine for just less than a day when it abruptly lost power and will not power on at all. The company did the repairs has trouble shot try to power it up and is arranging for us to ship it back. Any ideas of what it could be, and the likely hood it is related to the upgrade vs. a fluke occurrence that I will have to pay additional money to fix?

It's hard to say for sure, but if the iBook powered up perfectly before the repair and didn't power up after the repair, you could argue that the upgrade caused the problem and it shouldn't be extra for them to fix it. I'm guessing, but the power input and the battery are in the vicinity of the drive, and it seems likely that something wasn't properly assembled or got damaged and that is what led to the failure. I wouldn't expect an independently occurring fluke.
    Good luck!

  • Firmware update and Solar Power monitor

We have a solar power monitor that feeds information to the electricity company via our hub. It is connected directly to the router. Recently the connection has dropped. The cable is not loose. The electricity company suggest I contact BT to find out if a firmware update had been put through on my line, as that may have closed a port.
I've spoken to three BT people on the phone, none of them knew what i was talking about. Can anyone here assist?
    Thanks

If you had to manually forward any ports, then you would have to set them up again. This guide may help.

I have an iPad 1. I went to do an update on GarageBand and iBooks but it will not update. How do I return it to the original version?

Well, to paraphrase the old line, "What're you gonna believe, that email or your own lying eyes?"
The first thing I'd recommend trying is to power down your iPad (press & hold Sleep/Wake until the red OFF slider appears, then slide it to shut down), and then boot it back up and try again. You're resetting a bunch of state signals by doing that and this simple action (the first of a series recommended by Apple in your Users Guide) will quite often clear up these sorts of problems.

  • Battery power for ibook g4

so as many of you ibook users know, all batteries die eventually. i have an early 2004 ibook and i get about 40 minutes of battery power. i am going to purchase a new battery from apple. i would like to know how i can get the
MOST POSSIBLE LIFE out of my battery so i dont have to change it every year and a half. i know its not good to leave on the charger, so should i drain it completely before i charge it again? any suggestions would be great! thankyou

  • Solar Power charging issues

    Hi
I have a 52 amp Brunton solar panel and two 14 amp Brunton SolarRolls attached to my MacBook Pro in direct sunlight. The MagSafe power lamp glows bright green but NOT orange which I believe indicates that my battery is charging. In full sunlight I should be getting 80 amps from my solar panels which should be enough to provide a charge and get the orange light glowing, but it does not. In fact I left the computer on in SLEEP mode for one hour while connected to the solar panels and I lost 2% points of power. I am assuming that the panels are functioning properly and have no reason to believe otherwise. When I click on About This Mac and on to More Information the status indicates that I am not charging as does the little battery indicator in the Menu bar. I am puzzled, can anyone shed some light on this?
    Thanks
    John

+The MagSafe power lamp glows bright green but NOT orange which I believe indicates that my battery is charging.+
No, green indicates it's NOT charging, it's orange when it is charging.
Are the panels connected to an Inverter to change the DC current to AC Voltage ?
The MagSafe required input is 100-240 Volts 15Amp at 50-60 Hz - sounds like your panels aren't delivering that appropriately ...

  • Solar power - possible, or waste of time?

I've got a 13" Macbook Pro and every so often when out and about I run out of charge after a couple of hours when I can't connect to the mains (I use a lot when importing photographs and editing whist on site).  Does anyone know if the various solar power devices are any good, and if so can you recommend a good one for me to get (ideally one I can carry with me in a pack and doesn't take up a lot of room - I know I don't want much!), or any other ideas on how to get more power when needed??
    Many thanks

Small portable solar arrays tend to have pretty low output. The backpacks linked above put out 4 watts — less than a sixth of what your MBP's AC adapter delivers to a shut-down, no-peripherals-connected MBP whose battery is fully or almost fully discharged. So you could charge your battery with one, but it might take all of a long, sunny day, or even longer. Those backpacks are designed to charge cell phones, not notebook computers.
A better solution for your purposes would probably be an external battery pack or two:

  • MacBook Pro suddenly looses all power and turns off

    Hi folks
Ive experienced this twice in the last week, and jut pray that it doesnt ever happen when im working on an unsaved Logic Pro Project.
Anyhow, ill be working away and then screen goes black. All power is lost to the computer. You cant turn it back on untill you insert the power adapter. Both times it happend the power to the mains has not been plugged in. Once you install power Then it picks up power and it restarts.
Has anyone ever experienced this? Is this a known issue? Im just scared as tits that one day im going to be in the middle of something really important and its gona go wacko on me.
The battery is not dead, when i rebooted on the first time battery was at 16% second time it was at 22%

    same here.
my MBP started doing it recently.
for once, battery goes out of juice pretty quickly.
but there is still some juice left (last time - 17%) and suddenly the machine just switches off... like that... no warning, no sleep, nothing....
I did the "battery formatting" and also reset PRAM (?) (switched it off, took the battery out and kept power button pressed for 10 secs)
I do not like this behaviour. Interestingly, the battery has been replaced (there was a battery recall action about a year ago)
Awaiting some hints re: what can be causing this...

  • Solar power for blackberry

    Dear all
I am new to this community. I am seaking the right contact within RIM for a hardware innovation for blackberry devices.
We are a startup company who developed a new solution to feed the batteries with solar power: The whole body of the device serves as light harvesting unit feeding solar cells which charge the batteries of the device.
This way the batteries are always charged when light shines on the device no matter of intensity and light source. A power plug to charge the batteries is not needed as much as before if at all.
Who is the right person and his/her condact information to whom I can talk to?
    Thank you

My camera and iBooks have stopped sending emails, the function and ability to create the email is still there but my iPad will no loner send the email or even store a draft on my account to suggest the email was ever written; please help I really need this functionality.

Can you send any emails at all indicating that the mail app is working? Did you try any basic stuff yet?
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Close those affected apps and restart the iPad. Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Quit/close open apps by double tapping the home button and the task bar will appear with all of you recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner to close the apps. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.

  • Problems with epub 3 and iBooks 2

Problems with fixed layout epub 3 and iBooks version 2
I am producing an epub 3 fixed layout ebook. My query is whether there is a known issue with epub 3 and the old version of iBooks - iBooks 2.
The epub has passed verification with epubcheck 3.0.1 and I have viewed the file on my iPad with iBooks 3.2 as well as on iBooks on my Mac, and also through the Chrome browser using Readium. In all cases the layout is fine. But when the file is downloaded onto an old iPad using iBooks 2, the layout is all mixed up. The iPad says that its operating system of OS.5 is up-to-date , and will not allow it to be updated, and thus it's impossible to update iBooks to versions 3.
So my question is whether this is a known issue with fixed layout epub 3 and versions 2 of iBooks, and if so whether there is a work around to allow fixed layout epub 3 to be read on iBooks2.

Follow-up query: (apple-ibooks-display-options) file needed in epub 3??
I tried adding the old (apple-ibooks-display-options) file to the META INF folder, as you used to for fixed layout epub 2, and the file displayed perfectly on the older version of iBooks, as well as on the latest iBooks. This leads me to ask whether you still need to add the 'apple-ibooks-display-options' file to epub 3, to make them readable on old versions of iBooks, or whether this indicates that some of the settings stating this is pre-paginated etc. are not entered correctly in the content.opf file, but I have checked this and I don't think so.
Any advice on this would be very welcome.
