Solar Power charging issues

Hi
I have a 52 amp Brunton solar panel and two 14 amp Brunton SolarRolls attached to my MacBook Pro in direct sunlight. The MagSafe power lamp glows bright green but NOT orange which I believe indicates that my battery is charging. In full sunlight I should be getting 80 amps from my solar panels which should be enough to provide a charge and get the orange light glowing, but it does not. In fact I left the computer on in SLEEP mode for one hour while connected to the solar panels and I lost 2% points of power. I am assuming that the panels are functioning properly and have no reason to believe otherwise. When I click on About This Mac and on to More Information the status indicates that I am not charging as does the little battery indicator in the Menu bar. I am puzzled, can anyone shed some light on this?
Thanks
John

+The MagSafe power lamp glows bright green but NOT orange which I believe indicates that my battery is charging.+
No, green indicates it's NOT charging, it's orange when it is charging.
Are the panels connected to an Inverter to change the DC current to AC Voltage ?
The MagSafe required input is 100-240 Volts 15Amp at 50-60 Hz - sounds like your panels aren't delivering that appropriately ...

  • Magsafe Power Light Issue

    Hello everyone,
Just recently (as in yesterday) my light on the Magsafe power charger for my Macbook decided to switch back and forth from the green light to the orange charging light all day. It is still doing it as I type and I am really getting frustrated with this issue. The charge on the battery will be about 80% and will take hours upon hours to reach charged. When it finally does reach charged, the light stays green on the charger, however when I unplugged it, my Macbook reported that about 700 hours of battery life is left, and did not update as time went on. In addition, my Macbook no longer displays the message telling me that my computer is running off reserve battery power and simply dies on me without notice when the battery gets low as opposed to going to sleep. This is another issue I would like to get solved and may possibly be related to the light problem on the magsafe charger.
I did notice that there is a tear in the wire (near the plug part of the charger) and it is fairly large (as in able to see inside to the metal wiring, of which a few are broken). However, my battery also has 424 cycles on it as well. So I am not sure if either may be causing this issue.
I have reset the PRAM a few times as well as resetting the SMC with no luck in fixing the issue, and would like to know if anyone can help.
I would really like to avoid service, or buying new parts because I have a limited budget and am hours away from the nearest Apple Service Center.
If anyone has any advice or suggestions, it would be much appreciated.
    Thank you in advance everyone!

    Hi,
First, be sure the battery has nothing that would cause the battery to have poor contact witg the terminal in the computer. Make sure the battery is fully seated and the retaining screw is engaged.
Try calibrating the battery. It sounds like the controller in the battery pack is confused. Turn the MacBook on and use the MacBook until the battery gets low enough to cause the MacBook to shut off. At this point, the battery is empty and controller chip also knows the battery is empty.
Next, charge up the battery completely. It is OK to use the computer while it is charging, but don't disconnect the charger before the battery is fully charged.
If calibrating doesn't help, see if you can borrow a friend's charger.

  • HP DV6000 series laptop - Shut down immediately as soon as I connect the power Charger

    Hi,
I am using a hp dv6000 series laptop for last 2 years....  Accidentally, water fell on my laptop and then my laptop itself fell down from the table.
One the first day when I tried restarting it  there was no response ( No power LED no display nothing, no cpu fan etc ...)
I disassembled the laptop, cleaned the RAM hard disk, front bezel, keyboard. I used a hair dryer to dry out any of the moisture. My laptop then started showing some response ... now after 4 days .... it is working all fine except the display...
    The problem is :
    1. The Laptop backlight is not working... (but I can see the display with a external flashlight pointed to screen)
    2. The laptop works fine on battery... but as soon as I connect the power charger... it immediatly shuts down.
Currently because of display problem... I am using the (RDP) windows remote desktop connection from an another laptop to access the desktop.... I logged on from another laptop and checked that all the internal harware parts are working fine.
Also, sometimes suddenly randomly the display backlight starts working fine and goes off randomly.
Please suggest. I seached all the online help but I have found no help on "Shut down immediately as soon as I connect the power Charger"...
    thanks.

It sounds like the LCD power inverter has been damaged and would need to be replaced.  As far as the AC adapter/battery issue, I'm not sure.  It sounds like you need to retire this notebook early.

my iphone 5 cannot restart in itunes or by the power charger.  The apple icon keeps flashing

Basic Troubleshooting Steps when all else fails
    - Quit the App by opening multi-tasking bar, and swiping the App upward to make it disappear.  (For iOS 6 older, hold down the icon for the App for about 3-5 seconds, and then tap the red circle with the white minus sign.)
    - Relaunch the App and try again.
    - Restart the device. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
    - Reset the device. (Same article as above.)
    - Reset All Settings (Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings)
    - Restore from backup. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1766 (If you don't have a backup, make one now, then skip to the next step.)
    - Restore as new device. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4137  For this step, do not re-download ANYTHING, and do not sign into your Apple ID.
    - Test the issue after each step.  If the last one does not resolve the issue, it is likely a hardware problem.

  • MacBook / Charging Issues

    Hi.
    I have a mid-2011 MacBook Pro.
On Sunday my charger stopped working. It was connected to the laptop and it was charging it as I worked, but suddenly stopped.
I purchased a new charger today.
I took the new charger home, connected it to the laptop and it was fine - it started to charge.
I took the cable that runs from the wall to the power block out of the new charger and connected it to my old charger, and connected that to the laptop it started charging again.
Happy days I thought - I now have two working chargers.
I took the old charger out and connected the new charger - not working. Connected the old charger back and nothing... not working.
So now I am thinking it's the laptop, so I try them both with two older MacBooks and neither are charging.
If it was the MacBook both chargers would work on the other laptops.
It would be strange for a new to stop working. My 'broken' charger is the one that came with the laptop and is about 14 months old.
I have an appointment at the Genius bar tomorrow evening, but thought I'd ask on here incase someone has any bright ideas!
    Cheers guys!
Also, running 10.7.5 on my Mac

The troubleshooting step to resolve power related issues is to reset SMC.

  • IPAD 3 battery charging issues

iPAD 3 battery charging issues. Read most of the discussions. My question is: If I take my iPAD to Apple Genius bar - what's the test they do to qualify for a replacement (do they place it on a charge and see the charge for Y% for X minutes or do they have other methods)

We're iPad users like you, so don't know.
The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery
    http://www.macblend.com/how-to-calibrate-your-mac-iphone-or-ipad-battery/
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. • IPad 3 charging issues

I have had my shiny new iPad plugged in overnight with it's included iPad charger  (it was displaying some context for some of that).
I have just woken up and it's only at 39%!!!! Now I know that it's meant to take longer to charge but that is unbelievable!?
As I said I'm using the lead and charger it came with, the only exception is I'm also using a usb extension lead inbetween as the plug is quite far away. I used the same lead with my iPad 2 every night and it charged fine and fast.
It also kept displaying not charging when plugged into my PC (which is definitely high powered ports).
Should I be booking a genius bar appointment do you think!?
    Thanks!

This is a genuine issue and needs to be addressed.
Yesterday, launch day, I received a white AT&T 32GB 4G version, but I found the color distracting and AT&T lied to me and I got no signal at all where I live.  I was actually able to take it to my local store midday and exchange it for a black Verizon model.  The Verizon is screaming fast.
Anyway, they both have the same charging issues so this is a definite problem with all iPads, or the iPad chargers supplied.  I believe Apple will have to send us all replacement chargers.  While using my iPad, even plugged into the 10W charger and with the cellular data radio turned off, doing nothing more than typing on this very forum with all other apps closed, the battery drains at a rate of about 5% every half hour.... WITH THE CHARGER PLUGGED IN!  The charger is active and the lightning bolt battery icon is up there.  The iPad will only charge when the device is fully powered down.  Even if it is in standby the unit will not charge when plugged in.  This is either an OS bug that needs to be fixed or the charger supplied is not nearly adequate.
The iPad charger will charge my iPhone 4S rapidly, even when in use.  It also charged my previous iPad 2 in a decent amount of time.  But this 10W charger certainly does not charge the iPad while on, and the iPad certainly does not get 10 hours of use with or without the charger plugged in,
This is a serious issue and one that needs to be address promptly.  Apple needs to send us all higher wattage chargers, issue an OS fix, or take care of whatever the problem is.
They also obviously didn't think the new iPad development through.  The unit gets quite warm when in use and quite hot when the cellular is on.  Also, the display does not get as bright as the iPhone 4S, and several people at the Apple Store agreed with me on all these issues.
Unless Apple wants to see a lot of returns and unhappy consumers, they need to fix this issue pronto.  In the time it's taken me to type this post the power has gone down another 3%, with the charger plugged in and supposedly charging.  Something is seriously wrong here.

  • Solar power - possible, or waste of time?

I've got a 13" Macbook Pro and every so often when out and about I run out of charge after a couple of hours when I can't connect to the mains (I use a lot when importing photographs and editing whist on site).  Does anyone know if the various solar power devices are any good, and if so can you recommend a good one for me to get (ideally one I can carry with me in a pack and doesn't take up a lot of room - I know I don't want much!), or any other ideas on how to get more power when needed??
    Many thanks

Small portable solar arrays tend to have pretty low output. The backpacks linked above put out 4 watts — less than a sixth of what your MBP's AC adapter delivers to a shut-down, no-peripherals-connected MBP whose battery is fully or almost fully discharged. So you could charge your battery with one, but it might take all of a long, sunny day, or even longer. Those backpacks are designed to charge cell phones, not notebook computers.
A better solution for your purposes would probably be an external battery pack or two:

Did you try downgrading to 3.11 to see if that helps ? Looks like other people may be having similar issues - see the later posts in this thread here .
That was originally about a issue with suspends on 3.11 i386 only that was fixed in 3.12. But the last few posts seem to indicate a different issue that started with 3.12.

  • Power charger doesn't  work

I bought iPhone5 last week, and its already broken, had to go to the store where I bought it, then they said I had to go to Apple store, then I went to the apple store on Grandcentral, and had to wait for 3 hours, and their attitude was pretty BAD. I spend metrocard, and I took day off for this incident. AND NOW, this iPhone's power charger doesn't work! I call to Apple, and their attitude was also REALLY BAD! I DEF NEED my iPhone charger ASAP, and I REALLY WANT THEM to refound my metrocard charge to go back and forth this annoying issues!!!!!
The Apple couster service person's name is MICHEAL OLIVER. His attitide was very very BAD!!! I told him I've been a MAC user since 1995, and had a bad experience for my 3rd MacBook ( within 6month its broken twice!), and this time is more annoying costmar service ever!!!

I'm sorry to read about your bad experience but you're not addressing Apple here. We are all users just like you. Please give Apple feedback here > http://www.apple.com/feedback/

  • Solar power for blackberry

    Dear all
I am new to this community. I am seaking the right contact within RIM for a hardware innovation for blackberry devices.
We are a startup company who developed a new solution to feed the batteries with solar power: The whole body of the device serves as light harvesting unit feeding solar cells which charge the batteries of the device.
This way the batteries are always charged when light shines on the device no matter of intensity and light source. A power plug to charge the batteries is not needed as much as before if at all.
Who is the right person and his/her condact information to whom I can talk to?
    Thank you

  • Solar power and iBook

Does anyone have experience with charging iBooks with solar power? I want to know whether I need a true sine wave inverter or whether modified sine wave (cheaper!) will work.
    iBook   Mac OS X (10.4)

    Joanivh,
Check the watt rating on both adaptors. I think mine says 45 watt. If they're the same, and they use the same type of plug, then it should be fine.

  • HP Dm1-1102sa Strange charging issue

    Hi,
My laptop (HP dm1-1102sa) has developed a strange charging issue. The laptop will initially charge fine then it will flick between being charging and running on battery constantly. I bought another battery to see if it was that but the problem still occurred. I then took it apart to check for loose connections and voltage. There were no loose connections and the pins on the battery terminals were showing a constant 18.5v. I tried running the laptop with out the battery and the laptop shutdown after a while.
Anyone have any ideas on what I can do next?
    Thanks in advance.
    Simon

Hi, thanks for the response, I had a look at this page and followed the suggestions, it all came up fine.
What I have noticed is the bi-coloured LED that sits next to the power connection on the left side was white which indicates not charging (so it seems) , even when it was at 73% and plugged in it wasn't charging, I removed the battery and gently blew out the plug and socket and re-connected the battery several times to see if it was a contact issue, I also did the same for the power connector.
The odd thing was it would run perfectly on battery and on mains just not charging.
I downloaded the latest bios revision (not yet installed), so I left it for a while with the battery and the mains lead disconnected, reconnected everything and noticed the bi-coloured LED was now orange so I left it on the desk for a while not running and when I did start it up some time later it was upto 95% charge and then stopped charging again, and again the LED was back to whte.
Today after receiving this message I tried the suggestions as per the document (except I pulgged in the mains first which brought up the orange LED), performed the tests, I had already tried the HP assistant battery test in windows which showed no issues (still wasn't charging, sitting at 73%), now with it running in front of me (not the computer I am using to type this response) the LED is still orange and the message I get now is "99% available (plugged in, charging)".
So for the moment it appears to have righted its self which is a concern, I hope that it stays this way....

  • HT1430 iPhone 4S Power Button Issue

I have an iPhone4S that has fallen to the broken power button issue - is there a way to restart it without the power button? My phone is acting strange and I know if I restart it then it will be ok. I am already using the Accessibility feature to lock the screen, but cannot figure out how to restart it short of letting the battery run out.

I have the same issue.... just hold down the lock screen button on your accessibility menu until it shows you the power down option.  Then plug the charger in & it will automatically turn back on.
