  • Unattended  Solaris 10 installation with jumpstart server issue

    Hello,
    I have setup a jumpstart server and am finding it difficult to get a fully unattended solaris 10 sparc 10/09 install on a t1000 client. The console connection to the client goes into interactive mode at the point in system identification when the installer asks if the system is networked or non-networked, and runs a setup of default time zone and date/time. Using esc-2 to advance through the interactive menu it asks if ithe system is on a subnet, for the netmask (which is there as default), asks if the current time is correct, then asks me to confirm that my selections are correct. When I confirm it goes on it's merry way to finish the installation unattended.
    My guess is it does not like one of the values in the sysidcfg file being used, but can't seem to see where the problem is. I don't see anything in the table of sysidcfg keywords from the online docs that specify networked or not, and I am using the network_interface keyword to define hostname, ip, default router, netmask and ipv6, and thought that should take care of the networking portion of system identification, also have timezone and time server set.
    Could it be that I am configuring an ethernet port that is not connected (bge0)? This computer will be deployed on a DMZ type network, and the jumpstart server is located on a different network our internal private network. The jumpstart installation via the server is done by using a temporary ethernet connection on a second interface of the client. One other note the defined time server is on the dmz so the installation program won't see it.
    Any suggestions on what might be causing the interactive installer to kick in?
    Here is the sysidcfg used for the client:
    more sysidcfg_vlan3/sysidcfg
    keyboard=US-English
    terminal=vt100
    security_policy=NONE
    system_locale=en_US

    update. Fixed the problem with date/time by using abrante's suggestion of setting the time server to localhost. Don't get prompted for date/time information in the interactive installer any more.
    If I setup the sysidcfg file to configure the ethernet port being used to communicate with the jumpstart server (bge1), using an ip and netmask that is on the jumpstart server network, the installation goes through fully un-attended.
    Is there any way to get a second interface (in this case bge0) configured with ip/netmask values that are not part of the jumpstart server's network, using a non interactive jumpstart installation? Using these values in sysidcfg, the only things prompted for during the installation are, Is the system on a subnet, and what is the netmask. Anyone know what the sysidcfg part of the installation does to check the validity of a netmask value given in the sysidcfg file on the jumpstart server?
    If need be, I guess the interface could be configured in the finish script.

  • Solaris 11.2 x86 installation problem on GPT partitioned SSD

    I recently bought a new computer with Windows 8.1 pre-installed on it. I want to install Solaris 11.2 as dual-boot together with the pre-installed windows 8.1.
    The computer has a 128 GB SSD which is GPT partitioned. The SSD has 5 GPT partitions which are in use. I used a partition manager in Windows to shrink the size of the 5th partition (the windows system partition) so that i now have about 31 GB of unpartitioned, unused space after the 5 used partitions where i want to install Solaris into.
    For installation, I downloaded the Solaris text installer ISO and burned it onto a CD-R. Now, whenever the installation menu shows me the GPT partitions of my SSD and i choose "Use a GPT partition of the disk" it always goes back to the first menu screen where it says "Welcome to the Oracle Solaris installtion menu".
    Also, the installation menu shows the 5 used GPT partitions correctly, but then it shows me not one, but two partitions as "unused" with a size of 0.0 MB.
    What am i doing wrong?

    If you have support, then you will be better served by opening a support case.
    Assuming you don't, or you would have gone there already... There may well be bugs with supporting multiple OS's under GPT partitions.  I have no idea how much testing we did for such cases, and to be totally honest we put little effort into dual-booting systems these days, as using VM's in VIrtualBox or other VM managers is a better answer for 90i+% of people.
    That said, posting the output from prtvtoc for the disk would give someone a chance to see if there's an obvious bug.

  • Solaris 10 U6 jumpstart installation always goes into interactive mode desp

    While doing the Solaris 10 U6 jumpstart installation, it is going into interactive mode for netmask.
    This is the sysidcfg file configuration being used :
    bash-3.00# cat /export/home/iserver/jumpstart/donau1/sysidcfg
    system_locale=en_US
    name_service=none
    network_interface=ce2

    timeserver=10.50.57.214
    nfs4_domain=dynamic
    root_password=5YcgZqC0krYjo
    bash-3.00#
    Here the network interface specified is "ce2" and the netmask is as shown above. Still, we observe the problem all the times.

    Search complete.
    Discovering additional network configuration...
    Completing system identification...
    after this it is going into interactive mode and prompting for netmask . After providing the netmask, installation goes through successfully.
    so please suggest me some solution to avoid it going into interactive mode.

    I have seen this too over the years and it ultimately comes down to something innate:
    Here are a few suggestions:
    1. Try and use interface ce0.
    2. Check default route on both jumpstart server and client.
    3. The arp cache may need to be flushed on the Jumpstart server.
    4. Use snoop and see what happens during the actual RARPing phase between the server and host.
    5. Switch the order in the sysid config file as indicated below:
    system_locale=en_US
    name_service=none
    network_interface=ce2
    {hostname=donau1  ip_address=10.50.57.24 netmask=255.255.252.0 protocol_ipv6=no default_route=10.50.56.1}

    Please note I blanked your root password. Let me know if this helps.

    Sometimes, it's just easier and faster
    to just start all over and re-install,
    particularly when you have only a fresh install on your system.
    This time, do not choose to include all the optional "documentation"
    (that's what is held on CD5).
    I have never found a reason to ever read that documentation so I stopped installing it.
    ... or you could download and burn a copy of CD5 and use it when prompted.

  • DNS requests from Solaris 10 box to Bind/MySQL DNS server fail

    We have some servers running solaris 9 and some running solaris 10. We also have a DNS server setup running BIND with the MySQL backend. When I query the DNS server from our solaris 9 boxes, they always work just fine. However, when I query the DNS server from our solaris 10 boxes, they always fail. Queries to other DNS servers from the Solaris 10 boxes work just fine - they only fail when being sent to this particular DNS server. Here's exactly what I'm doing:
    ON SOLARIS 9 BOX:
    bash-3.00$ nslookup google.com calo-sunset
    Server: calo-sunset
    Address: <IP_OF_DNS_SERVER>#53
    Non-authoritative answer:
    Name: google.com
    Address: 64.233.187.99
    Name: google.com
    Address: 72.14.207.99
    Name: google.com
    Address: 209.85.171.99
    ON SOLARIS 10 BOX:
    bash-2.05$ nslookup google.com calo-sunset
    *** Can't find server name for address <IP_OF_DNS_SERVER>: Non-existent host/domain
    *** Default servers are not available
    In the case of the SOLARIS 10 box, <IP_OF_DNS_SERVER> is correct - it knows the IP address of the DNS server, but apparently it doesn't recognize that it's actually a DNS server.
    I am utterly perplexed by this. It seems to me that a DNS request is a DNS request, regardless of your OS. Clearly something is different from Solaris 9 to Solaris 10 though because the requests fail on all of our solaris 10 boxes, and they succeed on all of our Solaris 9 boxes. Incidentally, dig requests from the Solaris 10 box also fail, where they succeed on the Solaris 9 boxes.
    I don't really know what other information I could offer that might be useful. If you have any information at all about this or ideas on what I might try to troubleshoot/fix it, I'd love to hear it. Thanks in advance.

    First off, I am an idiot. I got this entire post backwards. The fact is that the DNS requests work swimmingly well on our Solaris 10 boxes. They fail on our Solaris 9 boxes. I don't know how I managed to read this post all of these times and not notice that I got that backwards. Nice.
    In any case, I've found the problem. It was non-trivial to me because I am not terribly familiar with the inner-workings of DNS. To those who are, it may seem painfully obvious. To me it certainly was not.
    The problem was that the DNS server (BIND 9 with MySQL backend) did not contain a reverse DNS entry for itself. Apparently this is a big problem for Solaris 9. I got a hint that this might be the cause when I turned on verbose debugging info when I ran nslookup (nslookup -d2). I had to add the PTR record for the DNS server itself. I don't know why Solaris 9 would require that a DNS server contain reverse DNS information about itself, but sure enough it does. As soon as I added that info, the Solaris 9 boxes were able to successfully query the DNS server. Very odd.
    Anyway, I doubt anyone else will come across this problem, but if you do, now you know something that might fix it.

  • Can MoveUser move a user's mailbox from an installation of Mail Server 2.X to Messaging Server 3.X?

    Can MoveUser move a user's mailbox from an installation of Mail
    Server 2.X to Messaging Server 3.X?
    <P>
    Yes.
    The 2.x server allows the postmaster to login to a user's account.
    Try running MoveUser as follows:
    MoveUser -u uid -s host -xPostmaster:uid -p password
    -d desthost -a proxyuser -v proxypassword -m mailboxpath
    Notes:
    Mail Server 2.x uses a local database and not an LDAP server
    for account information. The -l option
    specify ldap URL and the associated bindDN password,
    therefore, are not valid when moving from
    Mail Server 2.x to Messaging Server 3.x.
    "Postmaster:" is case sensitive.
    The -a and -v options are for Messaging Server 3.x
    ProxyAuthUser credentials.
    We do NOT allow this login to a 3.x server
    (use PROXYAUTH instead).

    Additionally
    When I type in fasn26p (machine name) the Oracle Application Server Welcome page displays.
    I can get to the Enterprise Manager via the link on the page.
    On the All Programs menu, under Oracle - OraDb10g_home1 I can access the Datbase Control page and login. The line for Database Instance: Orcl is -
    http://fasn26p:1158/em/consol/database/instance/sitemap?event=doloa&....
    One last thought. I installed this with this on my network at home and I now have it disconnected from the network. So no IP address for the adapter and I wonder if that can cause a problem with Apache?

  • Error occurred in diagnosticTests.jsp after installation of content server

    HI
    I installed the plumtree portal (PlumtreePortal_v5-0.exe) and Content server (PlumtreeContentServer_v5-0.exe). The portal is working fine. But When I completed the installation of content server I received the following errors, when I checked the diagnosticTests.jsp Which tells whether the installation is successful or not....
    I found 2 bugs
    - Root Section Publishing Target
    - Root Section Preview Target
    Possible Resolution is as follows.
    The Publishing Target Browser Path is invalid. The item was published successfully but could not be found at the Browser Path. To change the publishing target right click on the root folder in Content Explorer and choose "Publishing Target". Click on the Publish Tab. Change the Browser Path to a valid path.
    I am not able to find the Content server explorer. Please let me know how and where can I find these editor
    - Content server explorer
    - Portlet Editor
    - Data Entry Template Editor
    - Presentation Template Editor
    - Workflow Editor
    - WebDav Interface
    Thanks

    Hi Romain Testu, Jstorz & srinathmenon:
    Thanks for the information on the 2 exes that I need to run (IdcServer.exe & IdcAdmin.exe). I ran these two exes from the command prompt as suggested by srinathmenon (I first ran IdcServer next IdcAdmin). However, I did not find any new windows services showing up, with any similar sounding name.
    I once again visited the http://localhost/idc, and when I clicked on the picture of the LOCK, I found a new difference from before. Earlier, I was getting an error message as soon as I clicked on the LOCK. Now, when I clicked on the LOCK, I got a prompt for Username and Password. I typed the default sysadmin & idc. Then I got logged onto a window which says "Oracle Content Server", with three Tree-view dropdowns on the left (My Content Server, Browse Content and Search).
    But in the main part of this Oracle Content Server window, it gives the following error message: -
    Content Server Request failed..Unable to retrieve page. Permission denied. Address 127.0.0.1 is not an allowable remote socket address
    Could you please suggest what could be wrong here?
    Thanks,
    -Deepak

    Hi Larry_Nguyen,
    Do you mean NI License Manager? Why do you ask? If you need NI License Manager, you can download NI License Manager 3.7 for free here.

  • Installing oracle9i on solaris 10 but the installer cannot execute

    I was trying to install oracle9i.2 on solaris 10 but the installer cannot execute. Here is the exact error returned by the system " ./runInstaller: ./runInstaller: cannot execute. Can somebody help me out

    Did you check the file execute properties?
    oracle@test:/.../oracle/../..>ll runInstaller
    -rwxrwxr-x   1 oracle     dba          45056 Jul 27  2003 runInstaller If they are not set so, then I think you uncompressed the files with wrong flag, or for example uncompressed the cpio.gz on windows and FTPed it to unix..

    I am getting the following exception while doing an image rendering in a servlet using Weblogic in Solaris:

    You'll probably want to add -Djava.awt.headless=true to JVM's options. If that doesn't work: what is your Java version?
    Or if you have a graphics card on the weblogic server, you could experiment with hardware-accelerated Java graphics. But that's another story.

  • VMWare: 1 Oracle installation per virtual server, or 1 separate install

    The scenario is that we are going to put our support benches on VMware.
    The question is: should we have 1 oracle installation per virtual server or a separate virtual server for oracle.
    If we go for the 1 oracle installation per virtual server, this mimics our customer environment.
    If we install oracle separately, then we have to run two virtual machines. One for Oracle(with one instance per customer) and one for the Product which connects to the appropriate instance.
    Looking at it I'm inclined to go for the 1 orcale installation per virtual server, as this will allow for easier maintenance and upgrade paths.
    Apart form disk space , are there any other drawbacks?
    Are there any advantages to having oracle on a separate virtual machine?

    VMWare is not supported for Oracle, so if this is to mimic a customer environment, then you should be aware of this. In my personal experience I have not seen any noticeable difference from the testing and learning point of view.
    Installing Oracle on VMWare at the end of the day will consume the resources of the server where the VM is hosted, so it is all up to the CPU and memory resources you have in your host server. A drawback is the hard disk speed, the lower the more noticeable performance reduction, so be aware of this. It is advisable, you should make sure you have installed the VMWare tools.
