Solaris 10 05/09 CD Install - CD1 Hangs on HP DL380

Hi,
I am trying to install Solaris 10 05/09 from CD's onto HP Proliant DL380 servers. The install process hangs everytime after it has displayed the three lines...
SunOS 5.10 etc.
Copyright etc.
Use is subject to license terms.
It DOES NOT display the following line (i.e. the normal next step)
Configuring devices.
And of course, therefore it does not display the first install menu.
I waited for 8 hours on one occassion to see if it was being held up by somethig but if it is then there is no indication of a specific problem or error and it does not appear to have a timeout period.
The same CD boots and completes perfectly well on other machines of a different type (an IBM laptop and a desktop PC).
I have tried two diferent HP DL380 machines and it is exactly the same on both. The HP DL380's are fully functional using other OS's.
Any help / suggestions greatly apreciated.
Regards,
Richard

Solved the problem. I changed every piece of hardware i could remove. Last but not least, it was a problem with the 2 GB RAM Modules. I don't really know what exactly.
Funny that it works with Linux (memtest still running), but solaris fails to boot.

  • Hard coded links in R12.1.1 SOLARIS 10 64 bit Rapid Install stack

    Hi,
Just a heads up for anyone using the Solaris 10 64 bit Rapid Install.
    I am doing a 11.5.10.2 > 12.1.1 upgrade on Solaris 10 64-bit.
On my Rapid Install delivered R12.1.1 tech stack there are some hard coded links to Oracle test server files in the 10.1.2 and 10.1.3 lib32 directories. Which is not a good thing - it stops little things like adpatch working!
    e.g.
    $ cd $ORACLE_HOME/lib32
    $ ls -l ldflags
    $ lrwxrwxrwx 1 appdugc dba 56 Feb 4 16:21 ldflags -> */d4/R12/ab/apps/R1211XB9/*apps/tech_st/10.1.2/lib/ldflags
This leads to libclntsh.so not being generated and errors like this when running adpatch:
ld.so.1: adpatch: fatal: /*/*/*/apps/tech_st/10.1.2/lib/libclntsh.so.10.1: wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS64
    Killed
The fix is to recreate the soft links to point to the correct local mount points/paths
How on earth did that slip through?
I raised an SR on this issue and got no where at all. I only got to the bottom of it when I noticed the /d4/R12 path and googled that. I then found Vikram's article at http://oracleappstechnology.blogspot.com/2009/09/r1211-apache-wont-start.html and realised that it was the cause of my problems too.

I am not sure why you can boot into diagnostic OK but not install from the cd. I think it is a dvd not cd. You sure you have the correct cd/dvd?
You can boot in startup manager on your machine by holding down the option key when you poweron. This will give you a little more info. Click on what you want to boot the click on the right arrow.

  • Solaris 8 4/01 Intel Instalation/Boot Problems

I am TRYING to install the Solaris 8 for Intel and i am having several problems.
I managed to solve some of them but now i am stuck.
I am running a PII with a an Adapetc 2940 and a scsi disk.
I am using interactive instalation one software cd 1.
I am creating 2 partions one X86 boot with 10 Mb and another one of solaris type with 8500 Mb.
in the second one i created a slice for root and another one for swap.
The problem is after all the instalation completes the system wont boot !
    Any ideia why ?
I created a dos boot partion and it boots fine.
How can i create a boot disk ?
How can access the file system a just created to check ?
How can i rewrite the mbr ?
I am using one disk and for solaris only, am i creating the right partion schema ?
    Please help.
    Thanks in Advance,
    Pedro Oliveira

    Howdy,
I am please to see someone with ethics responding to some basic questions of a solaris install problem on an intel platform. I have been working with solaris on sparc for a while, not I am trying the Intel side of the house.
I am having a similar problem as you mentioned. I have a Compaq Deskpro system with an IDE 2gb disk to install Solaris 8 4/01 on. I get all the way through the instructions to #27 on the DOC CD to the reboot of the system and the pulling out of the Installation CD. It tells me that I will need to wait for the system to reset then pull out the CD before the sytem completes its Memory test and HW detection.
I think I am removing the CD when this is being done, but the only thing I am seeing is a compaq logo and an hourglass forever....the screen seems to hang there forever.
Should I leave the installation CD in the drive longer?
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thanks

  • Solaris 10 11/06 Rev. A hangs during installation

    Just received my Solaris 10 DVD package in the mail;

    My Computer:
    Intel Celeron 2.7GHz
    80 GB Hard Drive
    512 MB Ram
    ATI Radeon 9200 PCI
I'm suspecting that it's the Radeon Graphics card (hope not, using the onboard will cut into system ram, I suspect that is the case for you also?) - but it is listed as working in the HCL last time I checkd.
It displays the copyright message, then the cursor jumps around the screen a bit and it justs there.
What type of computer do you have, and what model (HP, Dell, eMachines, Gateway, etc.)?
I may pull the graphics card out later and turn on the onboard graphics and see what happens then. First I'll try just changing the default display in BIOS and trying to boot the install, though. I'll post back and see if that changes anything.
*Note:  Solaris 10 installation DOES boot on my main windows development workstation, which has the same card you have (AGP, instead of PCI like this one, though - but same card) - so I'm skeptical of the cause.  Most probably a BIOS/misc. hardware issue.  I tried loading the kernel in verbose mode (-v) and there were no errors.

  • Solaris 10 with zfs root install and VMWare-How to grow disk?

I have a Solaris 10 instance installed on an ESX host. During the install, I selected a 20gig disk. Now, I would like to grow the disk from 20GB to 25GB, I made the change on VMWare but now the issue seems to be Solaris. I haven't seen anything on how to grow the FS in Solaris. Someone mentioned using fdisk to manually change the number of cylinders but that seems awkward. I am using a zfs root install too.
    bash-3.00# fdisk /dev/rdsk/c1t0d0s0
Total disk size is 3263 cylinders
Cylinder size is 16065 (512 byte) blocks
    Cylinders

    Any ideas?
    Thanks.

That's the MBR label on the disk. That's easy to modify with fdisk.
Inside the Solaris partition is another (VTOC) label. That one is harder to modify. It's what you see when you run 'format' -> 'print' -> 'partition' or 'prtvtoc'.
To resize it, the only method I'm aware of is to record the slices somewhere, then destroy the label or run 'format -e' and create a new label for the autodetect device. Once you have the new label in place, you can recreate the old slices. All the data on the disk should be stable.
Then you can make use of the space on the disk for new slices, for enlarging the last slice, or if you have a VM of some sort managing the disk.

  • BlackBerry Desktop v6.1.0 B38 Won't install and hangs on Windows 7 64 bit

I'm new here and would be very grateful for your help.
When i try to install v6.1.0 B38 on my Windows 7 64 bit PC I have problems and it will not install.
It goes as far as telling me that it has installed and would i like to run it.
I then click yes and it attempts to start but just hangs on the grey BlackBerry splash screen and only a restart seems to stop it. Also when I hover the mouse over the logo it just shows the circular windows eggtimer cursor type thing.
I have tried quite a few things with no success and I'm really stuck here and was just wondering if anyone has the same problem and is there a fix for it? I'm at my wits end and ready to try anything.
My PC is in good working order with no other dodgy programs. I tried re installing C++ and that other program but it didn't help any. I'm extremely grateful for your help. As have tried uninstalling and reinstalling many times now.
    Cheers
    Paul

Hello -- sorry for the no reply...from what you posted, you'd pretty much tried everything...but here is a much more drastic set of steps you can try. For reference, I can attest that it can work just fine on Win7X64...so there must be something wrong that is causing it to fail in your situation, and we'll just have to figure out what it is. Nevertheless, here are my thoughts...
I suggest the following steps (insert plenty of reboots of your PC...not just restarts, but full power down reboots). Also, it is advised that you be logged into the PC on an account with full admin rights. Further, under Vista/Win7, use the "Run As Administrator" option for everything.
Further, it has also been reported that when your user profile on windows (type 'echo %userprofile%' in the command prompt) contains spaces, then the installer will not work. In order to solve this issue, log out of your Windows account and log back in using the local Administrator account (or any other account name without spaces) and install the desktop (for all users).
    1) Remove your device OS update package from your PC (add/remove programs)
    2) Cleanly uninstall the RIM Desktop Software:
KB02206 How to perform a clean uninstall of BlackBerry Desktop Software
Some have reported that manually editing the registry and removing all keys related to Research In Motion, Puma, BlackBerry, etc. to be helpful. Sorry, but there's no way to give you any kind of list...
Others have reported the use of a registry cleansing tool to also be helpful
Still others have reported the use of your original PIM (e.g., Outlook, NOTES, etc.) installation CD, running the "repair" process, to be helpful in some situations
    3) Get a fresh download of the RIM Desktop Software:
    http://us.blackberry.com/apps-software/desktop/
    4) Download (to your PC) a fresh copy of your device OS package from your carrier:
    http://na.blackberry.com/eng/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
    5) Install the Desktop Software to your PC -- don't run it yet.
    6) Install (also to your PC), the device OS package
    7) Now run the Desktop Software and see if it is successful.
Hopefully that will get things going again. In the worst case scenarios, it's been reported here that completely rebuilding the Win7 OS from scratch can also work. But, again, each situation is different, so it's impossible to know anything 100%.
Good luck and let us know!

  • Solaris 8 on Toshiba 8200 install problem

Has anyone tried to install Solaris 8 on a Toshiba 8200? I have set the CDRom drive as a bootable device but the install does not start, just a flashing cursor on the screen. I have tested the CD in another computer and all is ok. I do not have a USB floppy disk drive so cannot try the floppy disk boot option.
Is there a URL available for a WEB based install?

I would send a request to Technical for Toshiba on their help page at

  • Itunes 7 will not install; it hangs in the middle of "registering"

I cannot install itunes 7. It hangs in the middle of "registering" and will not proceed any further. Can anyone please help me? I am so frustrated! Thank you very much.

I spent 6 hours last weekend with this installation problem and came up with a process that seems to work - I've posted it a number of times and no one has said it failed for them. Lots of people have said it worked.
First go to Control Panel, Add or Remove Programs and uninstall Quicktime and iTunes.
Next go to the Microsoft web site below and download the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility. Install it, run it, then uninstall Quicktime and iTunes with it, if they appear in the list.
    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;290301
Go to apple.com and download the iTunes setup to your hard drive.
It doesn't hurt to disable or pause your virus scanner before installing, just remember to enable it again when you're done.
Try installing iTunes. You might still have problems installing iTunes because of QuickTime registry key access errors. If that happens, go to the link below, scroll about half way down and CAREFULLY follow the steps to change both Owner and Permissions on the keys that fail.
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=688433&tstart=0
NEVER DELETE REGISTRY KEYS MANUALLY USING REGEDIT!
If this doesn't work, please re-post your problems. The more information we have to work with, the better we can understand the flawed installation process apple uses for iTunes and Quicktime and we can come up with solutions. It seems that the install problems are really with Quicktime rather than iTunes.

We had CS3 installed with Acrobat 8.x installed, we are upgrading to CS4 with Acrobat 9.1.1/9.1.2. However we are ONLY having this issue on Laptops (MacBookPro's).
Using the same install for MacPro's and iMac's every single application works fine. However on our MacBook Pro's Acrobat will hang and you will get the spinning beach ball. I am guessing at this point it has to do with the user profile (as they are Mobile accounts - cached local home accounts) as that is the major difference. On our desktop models they are using local homes but require AD authenication to log in. However, the local admin account on the desktops also works fine.
I did on one laptop go through and delete all the files folders that dealt with Adobe in /Library/, /private/var/, /usr/, /~/Library/ and all other locations. I then repushed CS3 ran the same scripts to remove CS3 an push CS4 and then Acrobat worked...

Tried the update to 9.1.2 this morning. It doesn't hang, but it fails because it claims that I modified the installation. Problem is that I have not.

I have no really good answer here..
I guess you are using a Netra T1 AC200, right?
    Some futher questions;
Are you using an internal CD-Rom?
Have you tried the CD-Rom before so you know it works?
What happens if you try "boot cdrom" without inserting any CD? I think the bootpath to the cd-rom looks a bit strange, and testing that would be the easiest way of verifying if its correct or not. If the path is correct you should get a different error if you attemt to boot from a non-existing CD.
Last question; which Solaris 10 version did you download?
    7/M.

further installation problems with my equipments because of
missing or not properly identified drivers.
So I think I have to make further investigations on concepts
how to get Solaris 8 run in the best way.
    Thanks again for your help,
    Thomas
