Solaris 10/10 dvd not boot

I try to install Solaris 10/10 from DVD boot disc, and use Installation check CD. It boot OK, and print what my system is like to install Solaris 10/10:

But when i boot from DVD , installation not start, i see only what system try to boot from this device, but can't - even GRUB banner not shown =\
Other dvd boot discs haven't this problem - i install from DVD OpenSolaris 2008.05 and Windows 2008 server on this hardware without this problem.
Can any help me with this problem?

Satellite A105-S361 Recovery DVD not booting

Hello All,
I have a Toshiba Satellite A105-S361 series laptop. A week ago it had a virus and I thought to backup the data on the disk and reinstall that. I plugged out the HDD from laptop and plugged that into a SATA USB Interface to backup the data on my desktop and formatted the disk on my desktop using windows disk management services( I have windows XP on desktop).
Then I plugged the disk back into the laptop and inserted the recovery DVD (which has Windows XP home) and switched on the laptop while pressing 'C' key so as it could install it back to factory default.
A blank screen shows up displaying "Checking boot CD room". It runs for some 20 mins, the DVD ROM's light blinks and I can hear the CD revolving sound like its reading the CD, but after 20 mins it displays the error "No bootable CD found in ATAPI CD-ROM" and a cursor blinks on the screen.
I have tried other bootable cds, a couple containing windows XP and one containing WIndows Vista but same result for all. I have tried to change the boot sequence from BIOS and the F12 technique to display boot menu...

Well I have already cleaned the lens of the CD ROM. In fact this is the very first thing I did, it's a DVD-RW in good condition.
Tell me one more thing, is there a possibility that I could make a bootable USB and boot the system with the help of that, i.e. I copy the contents of the DVD Recovery in USB and boot the system with the help of that.
I did make an MS-DOS bootable USB but then found that the BIOS has no option to boot from a USB device. It only boots from one of HDD,FDD, CR-ROM or LAN. Or do I need to update BIOS first, if there is an updated version available for the A105-S361 series, to boot it from a USB device.

Solaris 10 will not boot from DVD on my system

I first installed Solaris 10 on my system and it worked fine. Then when it went to boot the OS it just kept rebooting. I must have made a midtake in the install so went to install it again.
Problem is that now the DVD will not boot and give me the option to install Solaris like it did before. It instead goes straight into GRUB. I thought that this was because of the previous install on the hardrive. But then I disconnected my harddrives and still the same problem.
I tried the disk on another system and the disk booted with the option to install Solaris. So the question is why does the disc boot into GRUB even when there is no hard drives attached to my machine

The last entry in the vfstab file is the only entry I added myself. It is a secondary hard disk that I mounted to the directory /data. Everything else was automatically created at install according to the partitions that I defined.
I really need to get this server up and running as fast as possible. I want to avoid re-installing everything since that would be really time consuming. Thanks in advance.

Not Booting from DVD Solaris 10

I am trying to install Solaris 10 on Sun 420R Sparc. I am trying to install it with DVD. But when I try to install it by using the command boot cdrom. I get the following error.

The 420R first shipped in November 1999.
Initially, they all had CDROM drives and not DVD readers.
You might also get that same error
if you are inserting a DVD disk into a CD drive.
Next, the 390-0025 DVD drives had problems booting
from any DVD media with more than (I vaguely recall)
something such as 3GB of data on it.
They could read from them,
just not boot from them.
That was a peculiarity of the drive.
Recent releases of Solaris 10 fill those DVD disks.
Try your installation with CD media instead of DVD's.

Downloaded the Solaris 10 10/08 x86 DVD. It will not boot up at all with the 2 Gigabyte boards I have tryed it with. GA-G33-DS3R and GA-N650SLI-DS4L I downloaded the ISO twice and checked the checksum. Burnt the DVD 4 times! The DVD works fine with my Eee PC 900 over usb. Booting the 2 gigabyte board over usb works a bit better, they get to GRUB but they still dont work correctly.
I am using IDE DVD drives with the 2 gigabyte boards. I have never had a problem like his before with my hardware. Been experimenting with lots of diffrent Linux distro's recently and they all booted fine from DVD's I have burnt from downloaded ISO's.
I have tryed the CD install disks, CD1 boots up and start the install OK, but would not finish corrctly for me. Some other problem am not going into.....
The DVD workaround I am using.
Boot up the system with am old Solaris DVD.
At the very first menu, press an arrow key to stop the 6 second timer.
Remove the old Solaris DVD and replace it with the new Solaris 10 10/08 DVD.
Wait a few seconds and select Solaris from the menu.
The install program will now continue with the new DVD. If you dont have am old solaris DVD, you could try downloading CD1 and booting that then swapping it out fot the new DVD. Not tryed this myself.

Solaris 10 01/06 (grub booting) on HP DL360 - adding array drivers to DVD

I'm trying to install to a DL360. This has been successful using the DU diskette for the HP Smart Array. However, I want to automate the install from DVD so that it loads the drivers without using a floppy (or another CD/DVD).
I have modified the /boot/x86.miniroot using root_archive to extract the miniroot, then adding the smart array drivers. This was then re-packaged and a new DVD made using mkisofs.
This works - it boots from DVD, starts the install, and the array disk is visible. The install continues as normal.
However, after a reboot I get the grub menu and it doesn't work. The failsafe works - presumably because this is just a copy of the x86.miniroot on the DVD - but the Solaris 10 install on disk does not boot - it starts to boot, I get the
Generic_118844-26 i86pc i386 i86pc
message and then the server reboots - I am assuming this is the point at which it switches to using the disk and it is not found.
I have seen from the grub menu that it is attempting to load /platform/i86pc/boot_archive, and this file is installed/updated by the installation, but why are the Snart Array drivers not being loaded?
Does anyone have any ideas?

am experiencing the identical problem on a HP
Proliant BL25p Blade Server. Here is my hardware
config:
CPU - Dual Opteron 2.6 Single Core
Memory - 16gb
Controller - HP Smart Array 6i
Logical drives - 1 (2x72gb RAID1+0)
I have tried the same things as you and I still get
intermittant boots. Power on and off does not always
work as the system still hangs. It's totally hit or
miss. Once it soes boot it seems to work fine. I have
also installed the latest Solaris 10 for x86 Patch
Cluster in hopes that some of the kernal patches
would fix the problem. So far no luck as the system
continues to hang...HARD!! HP was out to my site
today and the Eng. is going back to the group that
qualified Solaris10 on the HP Blades and see if they
have any input. If I receive anything back I will
post it here. I know this post is late and if you

Absolutely will not boot from cd or dvd

Someone has given me a Sun Ultra 10 workstation ... problem is that no matter what I do this machine will not boot from the optical drive. Extremely fustrating. The errors I am getting are "Bad magic number in disk label" and "Can't open disk label package" and "can't open boot device".
I have tried three seperate drives, three seperate IDE ribbons, and three different disks. I have tried on both IDE channels, master and slave. The cdrom alias seems to be hard set and does not change when I change its position on the bus. A combination of devalias, probe-ide and show-disks helps. What happens when I try and boot from the correct device is that the disk spins up, I get the error(s) and thats it.
I am aware that there has been a lot of discussion about this in the past and have spent absolutely ages reading pages from google results but none of it seems to help me.
Can anyone shed some light on this for me? It would be greatly appreciated. Thank you :-)

Just checking that you are trying to boot from a Sparc version.
I checked what happend with boot cdrom -s on a Sun Ultra 10 from a X86 Solaris DVD and got the errors:
Can't read disk label.
Can't open disk label package
Can't open boot device

I have a 27 in iMac with i7 processor. For reasons I wont get into (lets just assume I have the right reason) I want to do a complete fresh install of Snow Leopard and start completely over.
When I use OPT to select the SL DVD to boot, all I get is the apple logo, no spinning wheel, i let it sit that way all night still didnt work. If I force boot the SL DVD using C, same thing. So I tried formatting an external USB hard drive as a GUID drive and had the install residing on there, when I use OPT when booting the USB is not an option, nor is is listed in startup disks either.
I can not do a fresh install, and i have followed loads of tutorials online, but my DVD never does boot.

You need the discs for your computer. No other discs will work.
The retail copy of 10.6.0 doesn't have the necessary drivers for your computer, nor does 10.5. Your computer should have shipped with 10.6.1.
I think the inability to boot from USB is due to an invalid operating system being installed on the drive.

Power mac g5 2.3 late 2005. Leopard 10.5 installed on drive and boots ok to hhd.
how ever i need to go back to tiger 10.4.4 or later for my music hardware to work correctly..
Sooo i purchased a Tiger 10.4 black retail disk and it will not boot to it in any way all I end up with is a kernal report screen.
I have tried everything.. taking the drive out. adding a new formatted drive to install to.. no joy..just does not even look to be installing nothing..not even a spinning wheel thingy . if the disk was too early eg before late 2005 would it act like that and not install?
I'm lost here lol.

HP pavilion slimline s3200n will recognize the DVD drive but it will not boot up from the drive

Hi,
Try hitting the escape button from boot up. It normally gives you the boot options where you can select the DVD drive.
If you can't get into the boot options, try getting into the bios with F10 and change boot order options.

Solaris 10 - system hung, and now will not boot

I have a SunFire V240 with 2 73 SCSI disks running Solaris 10. Only the first disk has been formatted. The box was newly installed last week.
It had 2 zones set up on it and one of them was running a service out of it (called knowledgetree). I came in this morning (monday), and although I could ping the main server and the zone, I could not ssh to the box. I hooked up a console cable to the box, and there was nothing.
I then went to the OK prompt and typed boot.
It said

I then typed

Usually you can just do a "boot disk" or "boot disk1"
devalias will show you what actually devices the short alias map too.
It might be a faulty drive bay.
Try pulling it out of one and plugging it into another.
The do the probe-scsi again.
Then put it back into the first to confirm....

Reset Password - System does not boot from DVD

i forgot my password. So i want to boot from install DVD to reset the password. Unfortunately my macbook pro does not boot from DVD (10.6.3).
I press c all the time...but sometimes the macbook pro throws the DVD out...and sometimes nothing happens.
The DVD drive is working fine...
Any other idea?

So when you boot holding option it shows a padlock with a password field? Is that correct?
In that case we're talking about the firmware password, which you can't reset via the install disk. There is only one way to do this, I'm not certain if one is allowed to divulge that information publicly - might want to try googling "reset firmware password"

Mac Pro will not boot from Leopard or any CD or DVD install disk

My Mac Pro wont boot from my Leopard install DVD. It never gets by the gray screen, then after several minutes the screen scrolls down black and says I need to restart my computer. I tried my Tiger install disk and it still wont boot from that DVD. Held down the "C", used "option" and selected DVD and still no boot. I can boot from one HD that has Leopard 10.5.8, but another HD with Snow Leopard 10.6.3 will not boot. The HD with Snow Leopard shows up as "EFI Boot" not the name I gave that HD when I startup using the "option" key. Any help would be appreciated.

At first I was just going to say it sounds like you have a bad optical drive, but then you had to go and say that it also won't boot from a HDD.
That just makes things a whole lot worse.
Start by removing the side cover and checking the RAM to see if any of the LEDs are lit up indicating bad RAM. Usually if there's any bad RAM found, it will just automatically disable that stick, but maybe yours isn't for some reason.
Look for any other LEDs that may be lit. Generally speaking, the only time you should see an LED (outside of the power LED) lit consistently is if there's a problem.
You should also see if you can get Apple Hardware Test to run, which may or may not find some problem.
But sorry to say, it's sounding very suspiciously like a bad logic board.
One other thing to try, is putting the SL drive into a different slot. So if you were putting it in slot 2, try slot 3 or 4. If you just have a bad SATA port, you might be able to just work around that until you get a new system.
If by chance this system is still under warranty, do not walk, do not pass go, do not collect $200, RUN to the nearest AASP or Apple store to make it THEIR problem to sort out.

Wiped macbook pro will not boot from install DVD

I recently purchased an older MacBook Pro that came with the OS system wiped but it did have the original Install DVDs. The computer will not boot from the DVD. I have booted holding down the C key and nothing happens. I have booted holding down the Option key and it shows the Install DVD and I select this and nothing happens.
How do I get it to open up the Utilities from the DVD to install the operating system?

It could be a problem with the optical drive, but also may be due to the DVD's being for a different model.
Exactly which MBP do you have, and what serial numbers are on the discs ?.
