  • Grub error 28: selected item cannot fit into memory

I installed arch, systemrescuecd, and trinity rescue kit on a usb stick. I used the mbr arch installed, grub 0.97, and edited the menu.lst to boot all os'es on the usb.
SystemRescueCD provides an os with all kinds of "rescue" tools, but also other tools like GAG(gag.sourceforge.net/index.html), Memtest86, FreeDos etc, which can be booted from the bootloader.
But, when I try to boot GAG, Memtest86, or FreeDos, grub gives me an error saying "error 28: selected item cannot fit into memory". According to grub, my lower memory is 630K, and my upper memory is about 3.4GiB. The GAG "kernel", is 24.7 kb, and the GAG initrd is 267.8 kb.
This is not really arch related, I know, but still, if you can help me, I'd be very thankful. Google doesn't seem to help me on this one.

    Hello again,
i tried with Solaris 10 5/08 on VMware ESX 3.5 and VMware Server 2, both failed. I tried several ISO images, mounted as ISO or DVD, altered BIOS parameters in VMware ESX, but nothing works for me.
VMs where created with 1024mb RAM and 8GB disk space, more than recommended.VMware seems to be more successful with installing Solaris10:
    http://pubs.vmware.com/guestnotes/wwhelp/wwhimpl/common/html/wwhelp.htm?context=guestnotes&file=choose_install_guest_os.html#3888649
It seems to be a problem of GRUB in Solaris 10 5/08, but i don't know how to solve it. Every idea might be a great help for me.

  • Error 28: selected item cannot fit into memory

    Dear Forum,
I am trying to install Solaris 10 x86 OS into my SFX4200 server through Remote Control feature. I had setup the bios to 1st boot from CDROM and 2nd boot from Disk.
So, i inserted Solaris 10 x86 media into my laptop. Then i connected my laptop directly to the ILOM using cross cable. From the ILOM web page i had launch the Remote Control. I powered on the SFX4200 and i can see the boot up process through the Remote Control window. The boot up process has successfully read my laptop Solaris 10 x86 media.
At the end of the boot up process i saw three(3) option for me to choose:
    1. Solaris
    2. Solaris ttya
    3. Solaris ttya( SFV60x and SFV65x )
I had selected, option #1 and #2 but few seconds later, i saw this error message "Error 28: selected item cannot fit into memory"
    This is my laptop configuration:
    - Microsoft Windows XP Pro
    - 512 MB of RAM
    - 40GB disk and 7GB available space.
Has anyone encountered the same problem.
Please, can someone help and guide me to solve my problem.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hspaans,
First of all, thanks for the reply.
I believe my machine has sufficient amount of memory. The following are the spec of my SFX4200 server:
    1x Dual Core AMD Opteron Processor 280( 2.4GHz )
    4x 2GB of Memory
Fyi, i had also tried to start the installation using optin # 2 " Solaris ttya " but still failed.
I will be much appreciate if you can help me or guide me to install Solaris 10 x86 OS through SFX4200 Remote Control window( Install OS using my laptop DVD Drive ).
Please let me know, if you require more information.

  • Error 28: Selected item cannot fit in memory

    Hello,
I am getting this error "Error 28: Selected item cannot fit in memory" when trying to jumpstart an x86 server. This happens when GRUB tries to load x86.miniroot. I am using latest Solaris 10 x86 U9
I have a server with 4GB of memory. Any idea what can the problem be?

    This is just a guess...
The Solaris installation process is 32bit, regardless that the final environment will be 64bit if your hardware supports 64bit. A 32bit installation takes fewer resources and works on every system.
x86 hardware, plus 4GB of RAM and a 32bit environment just doesn't play well.
Memory address allocation for hardware is sometimes taken from the `front` of the address space instead of the hoped-for `end` of the memory in a system.
(Go look it up. The Internet is flooded with whiny postings of "why can't my 32bit OS see all my RAM".)
Temporarily reduce your total RAM, such as to 2GB. You can return it after Solaris is in place.
Go through the old read-only Sun Solaris forums.
    http://forums.sun.com/category.jspa?categoryID=65
They haven't all been migrated to Oracle yet (and may never all make it across).
This issue doesn't exist for SPARC systems.

  • Solaris 10 install problem (requested image to big to fit into memory)

I have just downloaded the iso images and burned to disk. When I go to install I get the message (Requested image to big to fit into memory Error 28) I have 1.5GB so I don't understand the problem. Thanks in advance
It took a long time for me to figure out, but the answer is disable in BIOS memory hole at 15M to 16M. This solved the install problem with Open Solaris and quite a few more such as not being able to install Linux Zenwalk 5.0 or openSUSE 10.3. Their are others also problems I have had with Linux or UNIX that this took care of. JGZ

    Hi,
I had been able to solve the Error 28 issue that in my case was really related to a corrupted boot image:
    1. I went in the path /a/platform/i86pc
    2. rm boot_archive.
    3. sync
    4. reboot
At this point the OS will notice the absence of the boot_image and it will regenerate it.
At the time of this operation the CD with solaris 10 was inserted in the CDROM.
When the system restarted it was able to load the OS properly.
Please use these information at your own risk. I do not accept any liablity.
    Cheers

  • Error 28: Selected item could not fit into memory question?

    hi evreyone,
don't know but Solaris 10 is not making any sense to me at all.the peoblem is i have installed Solaris 10 many times ,sometime GRUB detected Windows XP automatically and other times it could not and other times it halted during installation and said I/O error could not install all packages ,so i changed my CD-ROM anyway it did install Solaris 10 some times but GRUB could not detec Windows XP automatically and i could not configure GRUB to do so manually so i bought a new CD-ROM and mounted it on my pc.anyway when i tryed to install Solaris 10 and choosed Solaris from the booting screen it displayed the above mentioned error:
Error 28: Selected item can not fit into memory
the upper memory in the booting screen was: 752576 kb
    lower memory: 639 kb
don't know but Solaris 10 is not making any sense to me since a week ,it's behavior is not understood .although i did run the install check before starting the installation and it did say Soalris 10 can be installed on you system.my hardware information is the following:
Gigabyte mother board with bult in VGA ,Sound ,Ethernet
40 GB Western Digital Hard Disk
    750 MB of RAM's
    Pentuiem 4 ,1 MB Cache
please adivce if anyone knows about this?

I was trying to fix this for more then 2 weeks , finally the solution to fix this was easy: GRUB new version 97 is crab ( sorry why i do not know but .. )
I have one disk with: windows xp and second part for fedora
I got the error after upgrading to fedora 6
I got GRUB 97 version with this fedora 6 automatically installed
and while booting on disk :
Error 28: Selected item could not fit into memory
all forums are explaining that it is not possible to boot via GRUB on a 2 nd partion to Linux ( fedora) because of 1024 constrains etc.
I can tell you that after installing GRUB version 92 in a fedora on the harddisk ( 2nd part) started via rescue cd
I installed the GRUB older version 92 forced to overwrite the GRUB version 97 on this partion of fedora
run grub via recue cd but run version 92 installed now
    via command
    /mnt/sysimage/sbin/grub
    root ( hd0,1)
    setup (hd0,1)
it installs grub on the boot record
and now I can boot without any problem on this GRUB in the boot record of the 2nd part of the disk
I use GAG on the MBR and GRUB ( version 92) on the boot record of Fedora partition and now it starts easy , no problems anymore
good to know, but it took some time to find it

  • Error:   Table TEMPLATE_HEADER does not fit into window.

    Hello Experts ,
I met a very strange problem.
I am printing a process order using smartform.
for other process nrs , print perfect.
But only for a certain precess nr, I got a popup error 'Table TEMPLATE_HEADER does not fit into window.'
At beginning , I suppose my table line extend the mainwindow width. But infact , no!
I try to comment every node one by one, I found the reason: I put a table line into a loop node, if I add a text node which has something inside, it will triger this error. (only for this process order, others works fine)
so , does someone met this error before ?
    Please help me!!
    Regards
    Kevin

    Hi Kevin,
Which printer and device type do you use? For line printers and device type(driver STN2) like e.g. EPESCP9, the SAP system
must use spaces and empty lines to place the text. This is a limitation of the ESC/P printer languagesa per SAP note #19807.
For this, the Smartforms rounds all coordinates(of the table cells and the window). Only after this step it checks, whether the table fits into the window. So if the table size is quite close to the window size size, it may happen on line printers that the table doesn't fit anymore.
If this is the reason for your problem, the error message should vanish if you increase the size of the window containing table TEMPLATE_HEADER a little in your smartform.
    Regards,
    Aidan

When I tried to create a movie, I got this message: "This item cannot be shared while it is still referencing media on the camera".  What does it mean?
    How do I resolve it?

It means that you cannot share something unless it resides on your computer.

Import all clips that you plan to use in your finished project to your Mac before you edit and share your finished work.

I was watching a lot of online content on video.pbs.org and now when I start any video on the site I get the 15 second advert and then the error in the title. I "think" (Not 100% sure) this started when I upgraded to flash 10. I also believe this is an error that most get who are region locked out of certain websites. For instance anyone outside of the US and Canada probably can't view anything on PBS Video. Any suggestions?

Hi, I don't know if this has anything to do with the problems you are having, but you might want to read about it. The hardware acceleration is Enabled by default. Several other users on the forum have disabled it and that has been helpful.
The topics listed have additional info.
Whether those outside of Canada and the U.S. being able to view that site or not, I don't know. I do know there are a couple of UK sites, that I can't view(U.S.):-)

  • Can select, but cannot insert into oracle tables using php.

I am having trouble inserting data into a tables in oracle using PHP. I can insert into the tables using baninst1, but nothing else. I can't even insert using the tables' owner. Every time I try I get the ORA-00492 error of table or view does not exist. However, I can run a select statement just fine. So far, baninst1 is the only user that can actually do inserts. I've triple checked all the table grants and everything is fine. Also, I can copy/paste the exact insert statement into SQL*Plus and it works with the correct user. It doesn't have to be baninst1. I've tried everything I can think of. I've tried putting the table name in quotes, adding the schema name to the table, checking public synonyms, but everything appears to be ok. I would greatly appreciate any suggestions others may have.
I'm using PHP 5.2.3 with an oracle 9i DB.

Here is the code that doesn't work. It works only with baninst1, no other username will work and all I do is change the my_username/my_password to something different. This is one example function where I try to do an insert, but it doesn't work on any of the tables I try.

  • Error with select statement

    Hi All,
I am getting the error 'Comma without preceding colon (after SELECT ?).' with the following select statement. Can someone help me with the error.
            select single actdate_from actdate_to
            into ( lv_actdate_from, lv_actdate_to )
            from zsdcoop
            where kunnr = wa-kunnr and pfnum = wa-pfnum.
            if ( lv_actdate_from NE wa-actdate_from ) or ( lv_actdate_to NE wa-actdate_to ).
              wa-block = 'X'.
            Endif.
    Thanks,
    Veni.

Typically, on statements like this, you want to use AND instead of OR.  Google "truth tables" for a detailed explanation of why.
    if ( lv_actdate_from NE wa-actdate_from ) or ( lv_actdate_to NE wa-actdate_to ).
    wa-block = 'X'.
    Should probably be:
    if ( lv_actdate_from NE wa-actdate_from ) AND ( lv_actdate_to NE wa-actdate_to ).
    wa-block = 'X'.
