Solaris 10 11/06 installation problem?

hi,
i am new to solaris and just started to install the solaris 10 11/06, the partition for solaris installation is the first primary partition, auto slices was 4,4 GB for /, 1,4 GB for ovarlape,10 GB for /export/home and 500 MB for swap but i customized just for 2 slices one / 14 GB and other swap 660 MB, the installation process completed 100% but then hanged with this error messages:
Installing boot information:
-Updating boot enviroment configuration
-Installing boot blocks (c0d1)
-Installing boot blocks (/dev/rdsk/c0d1s0)
connot open/stat device /dev/rdsk/c0d1s2
ERROR: installboot (1M) failed
ERROR: could not install boot blocks
i pressed the reboot button and got the black screen with this message:
Bad PBR Sig
I wiped the installation again and want to install but waiting for help please:
First what all that error means?
Second where is my installation mistake to solve that?
Third is / and swap enough for installaion or use the auto layout of solairs as i mentioned above?

1-Make the Solaris partion "the only" active partition
2-Boot up the system in single user mode, mount "a"
3-Install solaris grub on mbr (/a/sbin/installgrub -m /a/boot/grub/stage1 /a/boot/grub/stage2 /dev/rdsk/<slice>) (i like solaris bundled version of grub :) )
before 3, make sure you got the entries for any other operating system/sytems in your active grub's /boot/grub/menu.lst file to be added to solaris's menu.lst file later.
Reboot, edit menu.lst as necessary.
Good luck.

  • Solaris 11.2 x86 installation problem on GPT partitioned SSD

    I recently bought a new computer with Windows 8.1 pre-installed on it. I want to install Solaris 11.2 as dual-boot together with the pre-installed windows 8.1.
    The computer has a 128 GB SSD which is GPT partitioned. The SSD has 5 GPT partitions which are in use. I used a partition manager in Windows to shrink the size of the 5th partition (the windows system partition) so that i now have about 31 GB of unpartitioned, unused space after the 5 used partitions where i want to install Solaris into.
    For installation, I downloaded the Solaris text installer ISO and burned it onto a CD-R. Now, whenever the installation menu shows me the GPT partitions of my SSD and i choose "Use a GPT partition of the disk" it always goes back to the first menu screen where it says "Welcome to the Oracle Solaris installtion menu".
    Also, the installation menu shows the 5 used GPT partitions correctly, but then it shows me not one, but two partitions as "unused" with a size of 0.0 MB.
    What am i doing wrong?

    If you have support, then you will be better served by opening a support case.
    Assuming you don't, or you would have gone there already... There may well be bugs with supporting multiple OS's under GPT partitions.  I have no idea how much testing we did for such cases, and to be totally honest we put little effort into dual-booting systems these days, as using VM's in VIrtualBox or other VM managers is a better answer for 90i+% of people.
    That said, posting the output from prtvtoc for the disk would give someone a chance to see if there's an obvious bug.

  • CTM 8.0 Solaris 10 Sparc-64 Installation Problems

    I am installing CTM 8.0 on a Solaris 10, Sparc 64 Sun Server/Workstation. I am having a problem installing the CTM, I installed Oracle 9i with no problems(that I know of) with patch 9.2.0.8. When I go to start the ctmsetup.sh it checks for the latest version of JRE, which is fine, however it says that I don't have the Solaris patches for JRE and it lists them. Well the patches I have are more up to date then those listed so when I tried to install the patches they listed it said that they were obsoleted by what I have already. Secondly it gives the message "Starting Cisco CTM Server Installation using Install Anywhere" but then the next line says "You pressed Cancel/Upgrade/Install" when I hadn't pressed anything, and it just stays there. Your help is much appreciated.
    Thanks!

    Hi, how you setup oracle 9.2.0.8 patch?? I tried
    cd /oraclesw9i/Disk1
    ./runInstaller -silent -responseFile /oraclesw9i/patchset_64bit_9208.rsp but, with key -silent i have an error: cannot communicate with X server, on my WinXP workstation?

    Glad you're sorted. Can you confirm that it is 4.10.903 you are using
    (not 4.00.903)? I'm concerned if this installation problem is still
    present in the later version.

    Gavin,
    This looks like a known problem with TTA 4.00.903 and some Solaris
    patches which were distributed at about the same time. However, you say
    you're using 4.10.903, and as far as I know the problem should be fixed
    in that version.
    You could try the workaround described in
    http://www.tarantella.com/documentation/sgd/ee/4.0/install.html - search
    for "tta_pkgadd" on that page and follow the instructions given there.

    Sometimes, it's just easier and faster
    to just start all over and re-install,
    particularly when you have only a fresh install on your system.
    This time, do not choose to include all the optional "documentation"
    (that's what is held on CD5).
    I have never found a reason to ever read that documentation so I stopped installing it.
    ... or you could download and burn a copy of CD5 and use it when prompted.

    I have the tree cd's downloaded from your site.

    In both ways , i do an update driver to recognize the internal H/D .(F4 menu at first screen)
    1.When i tried to boot from Installation cd , I've a message saying : no disks that meet the criteria in the Solaris installer documentation found !! (but the disk is present when i do a format cmd and i don't know which criterias are needed ?
    2.When i tried to boot on software cd 1 , i can load the software on the disk, but after that, the installer ask me to put the diskette labeled CPQNCR26350 in the diskette drive .
    I put the diskette in the drive (the previously used diskette i use to update drivers at first screen) but the program said : driver cpqncr not on diskette ??
    I'm sure it's the correct one .
    Can anybody help me ?
    Thanks for answer !!

    Thanks for answer.
    I've tried this mthod:
    1. Booting from dca diskette
    2. Updating drivers with DU diskette (cpqncr.itu,smartii;itu,cpqfcs.itu,cpqary2.itu)
    3. Continuing using cdrom 1 of 2 in interactive mode.
    After that i've the message :

    ... I insert the diskette here ... and --> following message appears :

    What's wrong ?
    The only things I've seen is :
    When i've construct the 4 DU diskettes, when QRST5.EXE has been executed to make the 4 disks, the messages on screen was :
    Compaq Solaris DU diskette for Solaris 2.6 !!!!! and also in the readme files on DU diskette, 2.6 appears, but these drivers have been take from Solaris 2.8 link !!!
    Perhaps it's the reason it doesn't see it as the correct drivers ?
    Do you have other link to download the drivers ?
    Thanks for your support.

  • Installation problems in Compaq Presario V2617LA Laptop

    Hello,
    I am new in all of this Unix-Linux world and I need some help, here's my problem:
    I have already partitioned and prepared my HDD to install Solaris, Windows and maybe Fedora (if someone recommends a better Linux it'll be appreciated), all of those three partitions perfectly identified and ready for the OS (it happens that I learn quickly, but I'm still new on this). I perfectly pass all Solaris 10 11/06 installation windows and requirements and Solaris begins installation, BUT when it all looks great, the installation (progress bar) just stops moving having 209.29 MBytes remaining and installing the 'Solstice Enterprise Agents 1.0.3 files for root file system', the wierdest thing is that the little slash-dash at the end is still turning around, the working processor light is on and nothing freezes (except when I navigate through the menu options), I have waited for a whole day and the installation does not finish and even re-downloaded Solaris and burn the image again two times and nothing.
    Could it be a hardware compatibility problem? What do you think?
    My Laptop specs are the following:

  • Solaris 10 U6 jumpstart installation always goes into interactive mode desp

    While doing the Solaris 10 U6 jumpstart installation, it is going into interactive mode for netmask.
    This is the sysidcfg file configuration being used :
    bash-3.00# cat /export/home/iserver/jumpstart/donau1/sysidcfg
    system_locale=en_US
    name_service=none
    network_interface=ce2
    {hostname=donau1 netmask=255.255.252.0 ip_address=10.50.57.24 protocol_ipv6=no default_route=10.50.56.1}
    security_policy=none
    terminal=vt100
    timezone="MET"
    timeserver=10.50.57.214
    nfs4_domain=dynamic
    root_password=5YcgZqC0krYjo
    bash-3.00#
    Here the network interface specified is "ce2" and the netmask is as shown above. Still, we observe the problem all the times.
    and I have seen the following messages on the screen
    Attempting to configure interface ce3...
    Skipped interface ce3
    Attempting to configure interface ce2...
    Configured interface ce2
    ip_arp_done: init failed
    ifconfig: setifflags: SIOCSLIFFLAGS: ce2: Cannot assign requested address
    Attempting to configure interface ce1...

    Attempting to configure interface ce0...

    Reading ZFS config: done.
    Setting up Java. Please wait...
    Serial console, reverting to text install
    Beginning system identification...
    Searching for configuration file(s)...
    Using sysid configuration file 10.50.57.214:/export/home/iserver/jumpstart/donau1/sysidcfg
    Search complete.
    Discovering additional network configuration...
    Completing system identification...
    after this it is going into interactive mode and prompting for netmask . After providing the netmask, installation goes through successfully.
    so please suggest me some solution to avoid it going into interactive mode.

    I have seen this too over the years and it ultimately comes down to something innate:
    Here are a few suggestions:
    1. Try and use interface ce0.
    2. Check default route on both jumpstart server and client.
    3. The arp cache may need to be flushed on the Jumpstart server.
    4. Use snoop and see what happens during the actual RARPing phase between the server and host.
    5. Switch the order in the sysid config file as indicated below:
    system_locale=en_US
    name_service=none
    network_interface=ce2
    {hostname=donau1  ip_address=10.50.57.24 netmask=255.255.252.0 protocol_ipv6=no default_route=10.50.56.1}
    security_policy=none
    terminal=vt100
    timezone="MET"
    timeserver=10.50.57.214
    nfs4_domain=dynamic
    root_password=*****************
    Please note I blanked your root password. Let me know if this helps.

  • Sun, take responsibility for appserver7 installation problems!

    *** First set of problems...
    I'm having installation problems on both Solaris 8, (Ultra 480, 1GB RAM, latest recommended patches) and a Windows 2000 Server with SP2 (1GHz P4, 512MB RAM).
    I chose default installation directory and then the install
    complains that Pointbase 4.2 should be installed into the
    same directory etc. Cannot unselect the Sample apps and
    Pointbase options.
    *** Second problem...
    I have an instance previously installed on Windows 2000
    Professional with SP2.(1GHz PIII, 512MB RAM, 5GB space)
    When i start application server 7.0 , then i get the following
    message:
    Could not start the instance: domain1:admin-server
    Server failed to start:abnormal subprocess termination
    Could not start the instance: domain1:server1
    Server failed to start: abnormal subprocess termination
    Could not start one or more instances in the domain:domain1
    Could not start one or more domains
    Press any key to continue ...

    When you say that you choose the default installation directory and then the installer complained about Pointbase, what platform where you using? Had you already attempted installs in the past or uninstallations that did not complete properly?
    For your second issue, did you happen to change the host name of your machine? Try cranking up the log level (edit server.xml) to see what's causing the instances to fail on startup. Did the application ever start up after install? What things did you do just prior to the server exhibiting this behaviour?

  • Installation Problem on iTunes 6.0.1.3 - HpSdpAppCoreApp

    Help!
    I'm trying to install the new iTunes 6.0 and I'm getting a message during installation that says

    "The feature you are trying to use in on a network resource that is unavailable.
    Click OK to try again, or enter an alternative pathway to a folder containing the installation package "HpSdpAppCoreApp.msi" in the box below."
    The last time I dug through some files on my own, bad things happened.

    okay, try applying the general advice on installation problems given here:

  • Installation problem on SUSE 12.1

    Hi
    I'm a Linux beginner and I am trying to install LV on SUSE 12.1
    I've also posted my problems on Lava:
    http://lavag.org/topic/15240-labview-installation-problem-on-suse-121/
    The installation started and it looks quite all right, but when I try to start LabVIEW, the application just sits in the taskbar for about 20 seconds and then just disappears.
     Any ideas?
    Is there a way to debug to see what's going on?
    Cheers,
    Mike
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi Mike,
    Unfortunately, there are no versions of LabVIEW supported on SUSE 12.1 at present. Here's a link to LabVIEW version compatibility with different Linux distributions. I saw from your other forum that you're attempting to install LabVIEW 2009, which is certified for SUSE 11.0 at the latest.
