Solaris 10 boot error after ufsrestore

Hi,
We have restored a V490 using ufsrestore and are having a few issues.
The root partitions of the original V490 were mirrored by SVM so I basically restored /, /var, /opt and /usr and changed vfstab (among other things) and also commented out the MD lines in system. (for info we have done numerous of these restores on T2000's albeit they were hardware mirrored).
The new boot disk partitions are c1t1d0xx and I can mount /ust on c1t1d0s6 from the boot disk, ive cut/pasted vfstab at the end of this thread...
After checking everything I rebootedfrom the other disk but unfortunately I receive this error when booting:
Rebooting with command: boot disk1 -s
Boot device: /pci@9,600000/SUNW,qlc@2/fp@0,0/disk@1,0 File and args: -s

Ive gone back and checked, double (triple) checked vfstab, put a space at the end but im at my wits end...
I am unable to enter any commands at the prompt and when I reboot to the original disk there is nothing in svc logs to indicate what the issue is.
Any assistance would be appreciated.

Hi, thanks for the reply...
Ive created the /usr usiong the same criteria as the V490 we took the ufsdump from
/dev/dsk/c1t1d0s6 /dev/rdsk/c1t1d0s6 /usr ufs 1 no -
Ive checked the disk hasnt changed to something else and used the standard ufsrestore -rf command to restore the data.
The original V490 OS was mirrored using SVM but ive removed all traces of SVM from vfstab and system and am now going to try restoring /usr back into / itself and see what happens, ive a feeling I will receive the same error message though but worth a try.
One google hit suggested a blank line at the end of vfstab but ive tried that as well to no avail.

just wondering if anyone can assist. i have just installed solaris 10 x86 recommended patches on a 16 disks server. where first 2 disks are mirrored called rpool, and remaining 14 disks are raid z called spool. upon installing the patches successfully and rebooting server, i am coming up with the following error:

It looks like the solaris 10 os cannot find zfs filesystem and keeps on rebooting in normal solaris os mode, but when I go to safe mode and type: zfs list, I can see zfs rpool (mirrored) file system and cannot see the zfs spool (raid z) file system, any ideas on how i can fix the boot problem and get zfs spool back in the safest way possible?...

  • SOL 10- Booting error after installation

After installing SOL 10 on IBM x series server , while boot from hard disk i am getting below error .
    Error
WARNING: /pci@0,..........(mpt0) Disconnected command timed out
Can anyone help me to rectify the issue ?

    Hi,
This may not help. I have a few x Series. My ServeRAID cards have been dying lately (2). I spent a day trying to figure out why it would not boot after a fresh install only to determine it was dead hardware. If you have an extra card you may try to replace it to rule HW out. Also I have been finding that ServeRAID is not well supported lately. I tried to upgrade one machine to MS 2008 but decided to move back to 2003 as I could not get the ServeRAID card to work.
BTW: With the HW problem the card seemed fine and formatted using the Manager boot disk.

  • Booting error after post-install update [Solved]

    hi
Been using Linux for a while, but wanting to learn rather than just use, so decided to give Arch a go, after the review in LinuxMagazine.
Managed to install and boot into it after a few trial and error.
    Ran "pacman -Syu"
pacman updated itself, then ran into the hotplug conflict. I took it from This thread that it was safe to accept to remove hotplug.
    Ran "pacman -Syu" again
I then ran into the the error:
error: the following file conflicts were found
    grub: /usr/share/grub: exists in filesystem.
    Followed This thread and did
    phrakture wrote:'mv' /usr/share/grub to something like /usr/share/grub-backup
Ran pacman -Syu again, this time, it ran properly (I think)
Rebooted the computer, ran into  a kernel panic:
UFS: unable to mount root on unknown-block(0,0)
. Followed This thread and  the wiki and edited the instruction on Grub's boot screen to set
    root=/dev/hda1 ro
    and added
    initrd /initrd26.img
    to the line uderneath.
this allows me to boot (sort off), but I then get the following error:
/bin/sh: can't access tty; job control turned off
From there, I get what seems to be a limited shell (get the "#" sign but not the location I am in such as "root@archbox:#" which I would expect). Here, I am snookered. If I search the wiki for this message, I get one article which refers to Cups and is not relevant to the issue, as far as I can tell, and I do not get any joy from the forum either.
Reinstalling the system is not a problem, but I would rather understand what is happening before I do it, so that I can fix it if the issue reappears, and because it fits into the "learning" purpose of installing this distro.
Could someone guide me on my next step?
    Thx
    Damien

tomk wrote:Change initrd26.img to initrd26-full.img, and you should be able to boot. When you're up and running, have a look at the wiki page on initrd for more info.
Thanks, that did it. Thought I had tired that as well, though, must have been tired and made some typos.....
On a sidenote, it seems that after the install, there was "/dev/discs/disc0" then came the partitions: part1; part2; part3, which is now translated as hda1; hda2; hda3.  I thought partitions started with hda0..  Am I wrong or is the way Arch auto-prepares the hard drive just skips the 0 partition?

  • Solaric boot up problem after poweroff

    Hi Everybody,
I have a solaris 10 8/07 installation on X86. I have problem regarding boot up after power off. Its not booting in multiuser mode and hangs up at the blue screen. Could we do something in the single user mode to rectify the problem, because its possible to boot in single user mode?
    Thanks.

Please include your full model number when posting problems on the forums. It can be found on the bottom of your laptop.
If it's now working perfectly, then I wouldn't worry about it if I were you. However, I can say that it's best to do a system recovery with the exact media designed for your notebook and then upgrade if you wish.

  • Compaq CQ62-215DX-fan boot error, even after fan replacement

I have a Compaq CQ62-215DX laptop. Everytime on startup I get this boot error "a system fan is not operation correctly" The system then automatically shuts itself down after a few seconds.
I ordered a replacement fan and installed it, however I'm still getting the same issue.
I figure the chances of the newly installed replacement fan being DOA are fairly low, so what should be next step to fixing my problem? Are there any common problems with the replacement of these fans on this particular computer? The laptop is a few months out of warranty so I'm either stuck paying a bunch of money to fix it, or buying a new computer if I can't fix it myself. Help!

It's either a bad fan which I agree is unlikely or a bad fan header on the motherboard which means a new motherboard. Sorry.

  • Application is throwing NSAPI and other errors after the migration

We started seeing NSAPI and other errors after the migration of new codes and recently make some changes
    1) During the migration, all the 4 WLS cluster instances were bounced simultaneously. What is the best practice and recommendation from BEA Oracle? Do we need to bounce it one by one for any specific reason?
    2) we recently introduced the 4th weblogic cluster instance on Solaris 10 zone. All other WLS instances are running on Solaris 8.
Is it okay to have two different OS versions( Solaris 8 and Solaris 10) and different hardware to host WLS cluster instances? Does BEA Oracle support this kind of configuration?

  • 16 mo young Mac Pro will not turn on. Dead. Why. No problems ever! Installed Yosemite and did not boot up after. Did that kill it? To young to die. What

16 mo young Mac Pro will not turn on. Dead. Why. No problems ever! Installed Yosemite and did not boot up after. Did that kill it? To young to die. What happened?what do I do now??????? Help!

Note that you don't have a Mac Pro as stated. Your profile says you have a MacBook Pro. Please clarify as they are entirely different computers. If nothing below works for you, then make a Genius Appointment and take it in for service.
Try these in order testing your system after each to see if it's back to normal:
    1. a. Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
        b. Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
    2. Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the
COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the
computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager
screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    3. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
    4. Reinstall Yosemite: Reboot from the Recovery HD. Select Reinstall OS X from the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

I've been around the bush and back looking at how to burn a blu-ray movie to a disc from FCPX and a slim Blu-ray LaCie drive.  I was able to burn a 5 minute movie from FCPX without any trouble but as soon as I try and burn something larger (like an 11gig movie) 1080 HD I get up in the morning to find an error referring to boot directory or something with a boot in it. Sorry can't be more secific than that.  It's costing me everytime it goes wrong.
I logged a job with LaCie and they said any disc is compaitble so i'm wondering whether there is an issue with Final Cut Pro X ?  Thank you for any assistance.
    Mike

OK, I have FCPX. I burned DVDs etc all fine. I then burn a Blu-ray.  Initially I tried to save to hard drive and burn from there but that didn't work.  Seeing FCPX can burn directly to optical device (LaCie) I tried that (share menu in FCP) I got a boot error message that I didn't take a note of.  Today I tried again after I checked a few things out.  I put in my BD-R disc into the device.  FCPX says it is "finishing create blu-ray disc: burning Blu-ray"
at 85% it then said Insert Disc, i did this and it is hanging.
I have been able to burn a 5 mintue Blu-ray sucessfully but as soon as I get to a 55 minute movie I have been unsuccessful.  Layers are automatic.  speed is automatic, it's a brand new mac running OS X 10.8.2    The guy I bought the discs from reccomends Roxio but why should I buy new software when FCPX says it burns.

  • SMC Error after change hostname. Solaris9/Sparc

    Hello friends:
We have a little problem with Solaris Management Console after changing out hostname in Solaris9/Sparc.
After change de hostname using sys-unconfig, we had to go to Console -> Preferences -> Home Toolbox location and change the hostname of our host. After doing this S.M.C. began to run another time....OK
Now it runs all OK, but we can see the next error inside the left toolbar:
    LegacyAppTool.client.LaunchLegacyAppTool
Clicking on it we can see:
The specified host machine could not be resolved into a valid IP address.
In the toolbar we can see .... host not found.
How you can see S.M.C. continues looking for our old hostname for something.
    Where could we change it?
What do we have to do to delete this error? ( we like the perfection ;) )
We have been looking for it, but has been impossible.
    A lot of thank's.

If you go to /var/sadm/smc/toolboxes/this_computer and edit the this_computer.tbx XML file, you'll notice that the last section in the end of the file looks something like this:
      <Tool TreeDisplay="false">
        <Name>Terminal</Name>
        <ServerName>unknown</ServerName>
        <ClassName>LegacyAppTool.client.LaunchLegacyAppTool</ClassName>
        <Properties>
          <Key>Name</Key> <Value>Terminal</Value>
          <Key>Type</Key> <Value>XAPP</Value>
          <Key>Command</Key> <Value>/usr/dt/bin/dtterm</Value>
        </Properties>
</Tool>Change the key <ServerName>unknown</ServerName> with <ServerName><?server ?></ServerName> and you won't not see the same error in SMC.
This also happens with Solaris 10.

  • Ocfs2 -  Error after install

    Greetings -
Have tried multiple times to install vmserver, and getting a strange error...
Here is the config: hda = 100gb hard drive, with WinXP and Fedora 8 installed. I attach an 80gb USB drive. I removed all partitions prior to starting.
'Auto' partition of the installer looks something like:
    /boot=100m
    / =3gb
    extended=75gb containing:
    /OVS=72gb type ocfs2
    <swap>=1024g
after completing the install, I boot to Fedora, and
    cat /media/_boot12/grub/grub.conf
I put the 'new' entries into grub on hda.
After that, I can boot to the vmserver, but during bootup, I get a message 'mounting local filesystems: mount.ocfs2 Bad magic number in superblock while opening device /dev/hdb5'
oddly, when I look at the system, it seems to mount the usb drive as '/dev/hda[x]' and mount the internal drive as /dev/hdb[x]' swapping them around?
Am I missing something here? (besides about 70gb of storage, that is)
I am using a thinkpad t61 w/ 2gb ram. I have turned on 'vm' support in the bios.
    thanks

I found the resolution, and am posting it for anyone else who may experience this. Basically, during the installation, the internal hard drive was listed as /dev/hda and the usb as /dev/sda. During boot up, after the install is completed, /dev/hda is identified as /dev/hdb. For some reason, fstab was pointed to mount /OVS as /dev/sdb5. After editing and pointing it at /dev/sda5 it mounted correctly on subsequent boots.
This is only temporary practice. I noticed a message during install stating 'installation to a USB device may not work' while doing an install from a pc to this usb drive via usb ver 1.
So, ... I have ordered a 'slim' tray to replace the DVD drive that accepts a laptop (2.5") sata hard drive, and a 250gb hard drive for it. (less than $185 for both, shipped! The tray comes from Lenovo, and the drive from XPCGear.)
I also found a memory upgrade to 4gb for $102 shipped from crucial. I almost fell down! I can't touch that price for any of my desktops! I am well on my way to my goal of a 'RAC Cluster' for less than 1/2 the 'published' $2600 articles! Now, if I can only make it work...
