Solaris 10 Disc Labels

I have recently downloaded the Solaris 10 03/05 HW1 CDs. You used to be able to also download printable lables.
Where did they go?
Frank

At some point, they had the label zipfiles as A4 sizes and also as the 8.5x11 size for Western Hemisphere.
I inadvertantly brought down the A4 images, once, and had beaucoup frustrations understanding what I'd done.
But be that as it may ...
I stopped using those labels because they were PDF documents
and my purchased blank labels never lined up properly.
Since this is only labels we are talking about,
I didn't put tons of time into playing with printer alignments.
I grabbed some picture elements from various Sun web pages
and just create my own labels as needed,
using the label tools within my CD burning software suite.
... and that includes using a marker, occasionally.

  • Final Cut Studio 2 Disc Labeling??

    Hello,
Does Final Cut Studio 2 include any disc labeler software? If not, does anyone know what software I may use, or a free program that is available out there?
    Thank you.

Does Final Cut Studio 2 include any disc labeler software?
    No.
If not, does anyone know what software I may use....
Is this for printed DVD labels?
I use *CD Label Print* -it came with my Canon iP 4500 printer and prints directly onto the disks. Don't put paper labels on your disks -that's asking for trouble when they come off inside the player As Jim recommends, design it in Photoshop and import your artwork into the program.

Hey, has anyone found really good disc label software for use when burning cd's from iTunes? I use disclabel right now, but it's kinda buggy.

You might try 'Discus' (my favorite).

  • Cannot read SOLARIS disk label

    Hi people,
I dualboot Solaris 10 along with Gentoo using GRUB.
I tried creating a new partition running fdisk from format. The program asked the space percentage of the new partition and since I had 3 of them already (46%, 48% and 3%) I entered 1 there (It didn't accept 3). I exited and issued the label command from format.
At that point, the whole system froze and I hardbooted.
The message above was what I got.
Can you describe to me how do I boot into a rescue console mode of some sorts from the Solaris dvd and fix it ? (I figure it has something to do with vtoc that needs to be rebuilt).
    Thanks in advance.

Select the device when it's mounted on your dad's machine.
From the File Menu, select Get Info
If the lock is "locked" click on it, and insert password, if necessary.
Click the "Details" arrow to point down.
Also, check the box to "Ignore Ownership on this Volume"

  • Upgrading to Solaris 10/08 Error: The disc you inserted is not a Solaris CD

I am trying to upgrade an e450 to Solaris 10/08 from 8/07.
I boot from CD 1 and run through all the pre-install questions. The system gets to the point where it asks me if I want to do a standard install or whatever the other option is. I choose standard and some scripts are run the disk is checked, then I get the message:
ERROR: The disc you inserted is not a Solaris CD/DVD.
Googl'ing that error message doesn't help. There are suggestions to modify a BIOS setting, but as far as I can tell the e450 has no way to enter the bios (at least there is nothing I can find in the manual or through more google'ing). Other posts only talk about the issue occurring on a MAC.
Is there some trick to this that I should know?
    Thanks

As for your BIOS question, there is nothing that looks like your average PC BIOS. The system has a OBP (OpenBoot PROM) that you enter e.g. with pressing STOP-A or sending the break signal over a serial connection.
Why the system keeps telling you that the disc is not a solaris disc I can't say, but are you sure, you got the SPARC version and not the x86 version?.
The E450 is a SPARC based system.
Another question, why do you a update install and don't use live upgrade? It is much more convenient and does not require as much downtime as a upgrade install.

  • Would like guidance on printing dvd labels using LaCie LightScribe Disc Lab

    Hello:
I would really like to create some Christmas CD's for friends & family and my research indicates that there is a product called LaCie LightScribe Disc Label software that allows my MacBook's dvd burner the capabiity to burn a professional looking label on each disc--can anyone educate me on this process along with recommendations on whether this is the way to go---I am really stumped and don't want to glue on labels or use a black felt pen for these gifts.
    Thanks,
    Connie

Lightscribe drives are available from a number of vendors and will fit into any compatible external case. Putting one into the internal case of anything other than a Mac Pro is not for the faint of heart. Besides the LaCie software, DiscLabel from Smile Software will burn labels, and there is a basic labeler from http://lightscribe.org/, where you can find out more information about the process. It is fairly slow, taking several minutes to make a complicated label. It is fine for friends and family, but it will be too slow for a big run of disks, particularly since you have to insert the discs upside down into the drive one by one, waiting for it to complete one before you can label the next.

  • Solaris 10 wont install - One or more disks are found

    Hi,
Hi I am new to installing Solaris on a E450 server.
I place the cdrom and type boot cdrom
Answering questions about network region etc.
The installer starts the installation and comes with an error:
One or more disks are found, but one of the
    following problems exists:
    > Hardware failure
    > Unformatted disk.
    So no installation.
    How do I solve this?
I have tried different disks and even to format the disks.
I have had FreeBSD running on this system without any problem.

    The solution:
If youre trying to install Solaris (SPARC) on a disc which previously had another O/S (*BSD) on it, you will more then likely come across the following error after the system identification stage is complete:
One or more disks are found, but one of the following problems exists:
    > Hardware failure
    > Unformatted disk.
The problem is to do with the disc label, at the shell fireup format with the e switch
    format -e
select the disc which you are trying to install onto, if you are told that the disc doesnt not contain a disk label, would you like to write a lablel, say yes & specify the type as SMI Label, If youre not asked about the label & presented with a menu, goto the partition section, choose label, specify the type as SMI.
quit & reboot & all should be well

  • I am facing 'How do you want to use this disc' whenever I read/open any lightscribe discs having data.

    Hi,
When I insert a lightscribe DVD/CD into a lightscribe optical drive, then when I click to open the DVD, I faced this error 'How  do you want to use this disc', although the DVD was full of data. When opening these
lightscribe DVD/CD via NON lightscribe optical drive, I noticed that the DVD/CD  opened well without any problems at all.
Also, how can the System show to me 'How  do you want to use this disc' , in particular when  a DVD is non rewritable(DVD-R) and also contains data)?
Bear in mind, not all DVDs/CDs were not detected. However, only full lightscribe discs' (having data)
However, even blank lightscribe discs were detected without problems. When insert a lightscribe disc having data, then I faced that error. However, when inserting  blank lightscribe discs I found that the disc were opened.  Also,
non lightscribe discs were opened well.
When checking the device manager, I didn't see any issue with DVD/CD drive. If there were a problem unrecongnising, then I would have seen 'a remarkable mark' in front of it.
Note: I have faced this problem after trying formating a rewritable CD inserted onto the drive. Althouthg the format failed, all data on the disc was deleted. Anyway, after that, then inserting full-lightscribe  discs are unregonised
Do you think the problem wth my optical drive. IF so, I would be saying why it wasn't happened with all other non lightscribe discs. If my lightscrib discs were corrupted, then why would they have opened well on another laptop.
    I have done:
Press the Windows logo key+R to open the Run dialog box.
Type devmgmt.msc in the Run dialog box, then press Enter. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Allow
In Device Manager, expand DVD/CD-ROM drives, right-click the CD and DVD devices, and then clickUninstall.
When you are prompted to confirm that you want to remove the device, click OK.
    Restart the computer.
But the same prolbem is existing.
yes there is a virtual CloneDrive program installed on my PC, however, there is no any CD mounted into it. Even if a CD was mounted into Virtual Clondrive, there would be no problem at all, because the virtual CloneDrive is used to only
mount ISO disc images into it, and not physical discs.
Any I have do what you have said, when inserting a light-scribe disc having data, then I open it, I found this
NOTE: in the above screen shot there is a lightscribe DVD having data inserted. However, in the screen shot below, there  a ightsrbe DVD not having data inserted. In the first screen shot, the disc is not reconginsed by Windows, however, in
    the second is recognised.
Even when I have inserted a lightscribe disc not having data(empty), it opened well regardless of  what virutal CloneDrive is enabled or disabled.
But when cliced on my problem didn't solve,
A man should convert his anger and sadness into strength to continue living in this life.

I have uninstalled the Cyber DVD suite, lightscribe system software which
came pre-installed with my HP pavilion Notebook.
I have recovered my system from the Factory Recovery discs.
I have tried opening all those LightScibe discs not opening on my HP optical
drive, on a Dell optical drive, and all of them were opened well, although Dell
optical drive did not have a lightscribe feature at all., nor third party disc
    recording software
However, the problem is still with opening the discs LIGHT-SCRIBE
    Thus, my questions are:
How to determine if the drive is corrupted and needs to be replaced with
    another one.
I think there something needed to be done on the BIOS Of my HP
laptop[[[A similar problems happened on my Desktop computer's optical
drive which is as follows:::(ALL discs are opened as empty by Optical Drive of
My Desktop Computer) ---while my optical drive of my desktop was connected to
the primary slave IDE, and the HDD was connected to the
primary master IDE, the optical drive and hard disk are functioning
well. However, I remember that while burning an image with Nero essential V: 5,
something went wrong, and then the Optical Drive of My Desktop Computer
    (HL-DT-ST DVD-RAM GH22NP20) became NOT recognised/Installed on
BIOS, although it was still shown on the device manager as a
recognised device. Also, it was listed on my computer, however, when entering a
disc(blank or with data) into the drive, I found it was not recognised, and it
opened empty(no files at it), although it contains data. Thus, I decided to boot
to BIOS, and clicked on 'Autodetection for IDE', then I found that only HDD was
still shown as installed on BIOS. However, the optical drive was not. Th I tried
clicking on it on BIOS and then clicking on 'enter' to try to let the device be
re-recognized. However, that made no difference. I had to take part my computer
,and then reconnected the optical drive onto the secondary slave
IDE , and let HDD connected to the same primary master IDE.
Then, I found that the problem solved and all discs became being read
normally. Aslo, optical drive became installed on BIOS]]]

I tried running the below command line to fix potential disk issue 'Chkdsk/r /f'
I cleaned the drive, discs, and so on.
I have uninstalled the all third-party data recording software.
I have uninstalled the Cyber DVD suite, lightscribe system software which
came pre-installed with my HP pavilion Notebook.
I have recovered my system from the HP Factory Recovery discs.
I think there something needed to be done on the BIOS Of my HP laptop[[[A similar problems happened on my Desktop computer's optical drive which is as follows (ALL discs are opened as empty by Optical Drive of My Desktop Computer) ---while my optical drive of my desktop was connected to the primary slave IDE, and the HDD was connected to the primary master IDE, the optical drive and hard disk are functioning well. However, I remember that while burning an image with Nero essential V: 5, something went wrong, and then the Optical Drive of My Desktop Computer (HL-DT-ST DVD-RAM GH22NP20) became NOT recognised/Installed on BIOS, although it was still shown on the device manager as a recognised device. Also, it was listed on my computer, however, when entering a disc(blank or with data) into the drive, I found it was not recognised, and it opened empty(no files at it), although it contains data. Thus, I decided to boot to BIOS, and clicked on 'Autodetection for IDE', then I found that only HDD was still shown as installed on BIOS. However, the optical drive was not. Th I tried clicking on it on BIOS and then clicking on 'enter' to try to let the device be re-recognized. However, that made no difference. I had to take part my computer ,and then reconnected the optical drive onto the secondary slave IDE , and let HDD connected to the same primary master IDE. Then, I found that the problem solved and all discs were read normally. Aslo, optical drive became installed on BIOS

I understand that you are having an issue with your battery and the lightscribe drive. You would also like to know about DL(Dual Layer) support.
Here is a link to  Troubleshooting the notebook battery to assist with the battery concern.
You asked what dual layer support is , here is a definition from webopedia for the explanation.
    What is dual layer support
As you stated in your post your system supports  reading
The DL refers to dual layer, it does not list a CD DL.  What type of disk are you using?
From your post I noticed it does read the title of the disk but is unable to read the file.
Did you use any form of compression software  when writing the files?
Would you try inserting a  supported blank disk and writing to it.  If you can do this and read the disk after your drive is functioning.
The only other way to check would be to remove and reinstall it  into another computer to test if it works there.
Yes there is a bios update listed on the driver page for your notebook.

    Thanks a lot,
I wish that Paul_Tikkanen could have participated in solving this issue since I know he has insight in such problems.
Could you please be a little bit patient with me and go through all my points below and answer me::
IF you had  had a close look at my screen shots before, you would have seeing I have classified the disc haveing and not having the problem  into three categories each of which has its screen shots under it.
Blank Or Used(containg data) CD/ DVD ±R/RW lightscirbe is unable to be  read by optical drive
Not Blank(containing data) CD/ DVD ±R/RW NON -Lightscirbe disc opens normal
    Blank CD/ DVD ±R/RW NON-lightscirbe opens normal(Opens like a USB FlashDrive or With a CD,DVD)::
First The kind of discs I have been used to using, and seeing in the market are only:
    CD-R, C-RW, DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW.
    However, I never ever used or saw 'CD-ROM, DVD-RAM, DVD-ROM CD-R DL, CD+R DL, DVD-R DL, DVD+R DL, CD-RW DL, CD+RW DL, DVD-RW DL, DVD+RW DL.
Thus, Could you please be a little more detailed about each of the above disc types?
Second: I don't know if I can see 'DVD+R DL' written on the cover of DVD like what I am accustomed to see 'DVD-R'?
Third: What difference is there between 'DVD-RW', and 'DVD-RW DL', and 'DVD-R' and 'DVD-R DL'?

NOTE, those discs are for HP Factory Recovery Discs.I have created those Discs via HP Recovery Manager.  After creating them, I have labelled them with lightscribe software. ALL LightScribe are not read well and are unknown. Thus, my answer for your question is No, I don't use compression software unless if the program 'HP Recovery Manager' used a compression built-in tool while creating those discs'
Moreover, I have even restored my laptop from the HP factory Recovery discs which means everything must have been OK

Have you seen my screen shots well?
The key of my problem as to unable to reading LightScribe is the answer of this question of mine: Why do I see 'RAW' or 'unknown' as a file system for disc inserted whenever I insert a ligthSribe disc into drive?
All Blank Or containing data CD/ DVD ±R/RW lightscirbe are unable to be  read by optical drive. When clicking on drive 'duble-click', I found it opens  like a USB FlashDrive or With a CD,DVD player, however, 'with CD/DVD Player' is grayed out) When I chose 'like a USB FlashDrive, I found there was no disc inserted, although it was.
If you mean other discs not LightScribe, then I would be saying YES. And they all worked well, except the lightscribe(Blank, or containing data) were not read well at all.(all are unknown).

You mean I need to remove the optical drive and install on another laptop brand. If so, It would be compatible with any laptop brand?
NOTE: the reason around this problem is not lightscribe discs(I think) since any optical drive without having a lightscribe feature can read lightscribe discs. For instance the Dell laptop(Windows 7) could read all lightscribe disc or non lightscribe discs, even although it doesn't have any lightscribe feature, nor a disc recording software, except the Windows built-in default  tools. Dell optical drive, although not having a lightscribe feature, read all discs no matter the disc type is. Thus, In my HP optical drive having a lightscribe feature, I have decided to get rid of (lightscribe feature by removing the lightscribe system software, and all Cyber DVD-Suite). However, the problem is still with reading lightscribe discs.

    Updating the BIOS
First:: I have updated my BIOS from F.05 into F.1B by using HP Notebook System BIOS Update (Intel Processors) (sp55068) F.1B hoping to get rid of this problem, but that made no difference at all.
    NOTE
Other suggested that I insert an empty rewritable CD and try running the following command: format e: /fs:UDF
I did, but it didn't help.
Other suggested to download the latest version LightSribe system software, but I would be saying how to do that as long as HP would be phasing out HP LightScribe Direct Disc Labeling technology. HP will gradually transition products to comparable optical disc drives without LightScribe technology.
Second:: I've also been searching in HP forums, but always they said nonsense comments which I don't put up with. Take this one for example,
I'd be happy to do all I can to help with your lightscribe. Please note:Beginning May 2011 and throughout the year, HP will be phasing out HP LightScribe Direct Disc Labeling technology. HP will gradually transition products to comparable optical disc drives without LightScribe technology. While this transition may affect other HP products, this document is specific to HP notebooks.- Source

NOTE:Hewlett-Packard's LightScribe website is no longer active. LightScribe software and disc utilities
may be found on a number of public websites. Search the Internet for LightScribeto find these pages.
This blurb and much more information can be found in the following document; Creating Disc Labels with LightScribe
    The compelet discussion is here.
Finally I would be saying that LightScribe website is no longer available(discontinued). As HP said. IF HP customer care couldn't help their customers, I think it would be better to completely discontinue selling HP products.

  • LightScribe SuperMulti DVD±R/RW with Double Layer Support is no longer able to read all lightscribe discs(Blank or Containing Data)

    Hi,
The product Name of my computer is: HP Pavilion dv6-6093ex Entertainment
    Notebook PC support
The number of my computer is : LM610EA#A2N.
Could anyone please at this splendid forum take some of their precious time
out to really reply my questions and solve my problems?
    FIRST OF ALL:
My HP Pavilion Laptop is about 3 years old.
    My
sister's Dell Inspiron laptop is 3 years old.
My HP laptop is well-cared, as opposed to my sister's Inspiron Dell laptop, which is always thrown in dust without caring at all. Also, its battery is always inserted even when it is fully charged while the laptop is plugged in to the main power supply.
However, my laptop is either used on only battery, or on plugin. Also, it is kept from the dust. But, I really found that the battery of the Dell laptop still lasts about three and half hours, and there is no problem cooling fan is not properly properly.
I only remember one thing differently done on my laptop battery which is I charged it fully, then I stored it without using it for about four months, then when I reused it, I found it got worse over time. I.e. first time of using it after storing,I found
it empty, then I charged it again fully, however, then it lasted about 2 hours, then 1 and half hours, next an hour, now it is only lasting about 20 minutes without performance. If there is high performance, then
    the computer shuts down suddenly.
    My problem is follows:::
First: Whenever I inserted any Containing Data OR  Data CD/DVD-RLightScribe discs, I found that HP optical driver was
unable to read them. When clicking on the optical disc drive 'double-click' while disc was inserted, then I found that disc opened as this way(NOTE: With a CD/DVD player is grayed out)
I  was told 'I suspect the culprit might be hardware and lightscribe dive might be
corrupt. Please sent it to service center to check. In addition, this thread could be as a reference:

Since no one replied to me at HP forums, although my HP laptop is one of their products, I had to post my problem here to know if my driver is corrupted and needs to be replaced or not.

Yes, you're right the two threads below are concerned about one issue.

However, this thread contains more precise details and screen shots about the problem. I was not able to understand whether all lightscribs were not unable to be read or not. However, I now recognized that, and I recognized that only all LightScribe(empty
or used) discs are unable to be read. furthermore, that other thread got far too longer to be followed.
Moreover, I would like you to take some time out to answer my problem about Lighstscribe discs since I am going to purchase 'A battery, Cooling Fan' From the HP agent in Yemen, which is far away from me about 1000 Km. Thus, If my optical disc drive was corrupted
as well, then I would be requesting the 'optical disc  drive' as well from the HP along with 'Battery, Cooling Fan' .

  • Disc 2 damaged - I'm stuck in the middle of a installation process HELP!

    Hi, folks.
I sold my iBook last thursday and I was preparing it for delivery. So, I started a Erase & Install of Tiger with the DVDs I received from Apple in order to give it to the new owner with a brand new system and none of my files. The problem is that after disc 1 had been popped out by the system and I inserted DVD 2, I found out it's damaged. iBook won't read it at all.
I tried several things such as copying the DVD in other computers but neither my MacBook nor my wife's PC can even read it. When it's about 20% read, a error messages shows up and process stops.
So, to make long things short, my iBook is stuck in the "Please, insert Disc labeled Mac OS X Installation DVD 2".
Is there a way I could force the system to skip this disc and log into Mac OS X even though I woudn't have the additional software installed? My priority now is to see the computer working.
    Thanks in advance.
    JP

I would call AppleCare and get a replacement disk, and just wait for it to come. Keep the machine where it won't overheat on a surface made of metal or stone glass, or plastic, and keep it plugged in.

  • HP Pavilion dv6 1444ee Recovery Disc Issue

    Hi,
I created three recovery discs soon after I purchased my laptop..The Recovery Disc #1 was inside the optical disc tray while I was resolving some issues on a Linux distro called Backtrack5..Playing around with linux' bootloader and when I tried booting from the Optical drive (i-e Recovery Disc labelled #1) the PC did not recognise it at all..Somehow I managed to run the existing installation of Windows7 (the original one that came with my laptop) and inside Computer it shows that my Optical drive has no filesystem and occupies 0 bytes..But in "Create and format partitions" the optical drive shows to have a RAW filesystem..
The question is: Is there any way to get back the Recovery Disc #1?? If not,any other measure that I could take now so that in the future I can reinstall my factory shipped OS..
    Thanks

  • I had final cut express 4 already installed on my new macbook but can't open it because it is asking for my serial number which is on the disc. I've put it in with and without dashes and dots and it won't accept it. What do I do?

I had final cut express 4 already installed on my new macbook pro at the shop but I'm trying to open it up and it wants my serial number. I've typed in the number on the disc labelled 'product serial number' but it won't accept it. The number has lots of dots and dashes in it and I've tried typing these as well, but to no avail. What can I do?

    You do need the dashes.
    Also double check that O & 0, I & 1 are not being confused.
The serial no. pretty much follows a three numbers then three letters approach.
