Solaris 10 Documentation CD

I am trying to install Solaris 10 07/04 (sparc) on a v210. During the installation I am prompted to insert the Documentation cd.
Does anyone know where to find this cd.
Thanks

I totally agree with the previous post. The online documentation is thorough and well organized. Chances are, that anyone looking for info, WILL find it if they dig a little through the collection.
Also note, that the full documentation DVD is included in the Solaris10 Media Kit. Although it is a
$50.00 purchase, it is not a bad deal when you consider the contents of the kit. Installation DVDs for both Sparc and X86 versions, complete installation CD sets for both OSes, Software Companion CDs
for both versions,Sun Management Center CDs, and Sun Enterprise System CDs. Also, the Documentation DVD. Pretty good deal - check it out !

You are probably using the INSTALL CD that comes with Solaris x86.
Don't use it but use the Software CD 1/1 to boot and install the system instead. The INSTALL CD is supposed to be used on a completely blank system (no other OS's) although even there I think Software CD 1/1 does the job.
Also, if you are new to Solaris I advice you to get the FAQ (you can find it on e.g. http://www.science.uva.nl/pub/solaris/solaris2- it should be really helpfull during the first few weeks/months on Solaris

  • Solaris 10 Documentation Media

    Well, this sounds stupid,but..
I've been trying searching sun's web and even googling but I can't find from where to download this Solaris 10 Documentation Media for offline browsing
It says here about this Doc media, but I can't find where to download it from:
    http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/817-0550/6mgbg7ec5?a=view
    I can't find it at sun's website (Solaris 10 & x86-not 9)
    Any ideas?
I want it for offline browsing.
    thanks.

    Hi,
Is there Solaris 10 Documentation dvd, and if yes can
anybody give me the link to it? The installation
process requires that media and I don't have it. It shouldn't require that piece. It is selectable in the installation screen, but you don't have it (so you shouldn't select it).
I don't believe it is part of the free download. It may be in the media kit.
You can download the docs separately from docs.sun.com.

  • Solaris 8 does not boot in Intel Platform

I got free Solaris 8 CD for Intel Platform. I installed it in a PC with Intel 133 cpu. It cannot boot up after it is installed. When I boot, it just keeps rebooting system and get an error says, "File Can not be synchronized". I know I made some mistake during installation. My PC has a 3COM network car but it is not connect to any network. During installation, I told that I connect to network and give a non-exist ip address.
My question is how do I reinstall it? I have tried to delete everything in hard drive but no luck to get installation start again.
The other problem I see is that the scan program tells me that there is an IDE card lack of resources and conflicts with another IDE card.
Could some one tell me how to make Solaris 8 working on my Intel Platform PC?
    Thanks,
    Cindy

I'm trying to install Solaris 8 using the Device Configuration Assistant diskette in order to boot from the CD Drive. The whole boot process goes through as described in the documentation but at the time that is trying to copy files to the HD in order to porceed with the install, I get the following error message:
    <pre>
No Disks that meet the citeria in the Solaris
    installer documentation found.
Please check the system or try another installation option
    </pre>
When the software is checking for drivers/hardware, it recognizes the HD, but it seems that when trying to boot it doesn't. The documentation makes reference to fdisk and partitioning but I am not given the oportunity to do it at any time.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hello,
I'm trying to install Solaris 2.8 on a Compaq server.
I have the tree cd's downloaded from your site.
    config: internal ultra scsi 2 ctrlr with 1 * 18gb H/D
internal ide ctrlr with cd drive and diskette drive
In both ways , i do an update driver to recognize the internal H/D .(F4 menu at first screen)
1.When i tried to boot from Installation cd , I've a message saying : no disks that meet the criteria in the Solaris installer documentation found !! (but the disk is present when i do a format cmd and i don't know which criterias are needed ?
2.When i tried to boot on software cd 1 , i can load the software on the disk, but after that, the installer ask me to put the diskette labeled CPQNCR26350 in the diskette drive .
I put the diskette in the drive (the previously used diskette i use to update drivers at first screen) but the program said : driver cpqncr not on diskette ??
    I'm sure it's the correct one .
    Can anybody help me ?
    Thanks for answer !!

    Thanks for answer.
    I've tried this mthod:
    1. Booting from dca diskette
    2. Updating drivers with DU diskette (cpqncr.itu,smartii;itu,cpqfcs.itu,cpqary2.itu)
    3. Continuing using cdrom 1 of 2 in interactive mode.
After that i've the message :
    Solaris 8 s/w installation succeeded
    Customizing system files --> ok
    Customizing system devices --> ok
    Installing boot information --> ok
    Installing unbundled device driver support
Extracting driver list from tree ..
    CPQNCR26350 drv/cpqncr
Please insert the DU diskette labeled CPQNCR26350
    Press <ENTER> when ready
... I insert the diskette here ... and --> following message appears :
    Driver cpqncr not on diskette
    What's wrong ?
The only things I've seen is :
When i've construct the 4 DU diskettes, when QRST5.EXE has been executed to make the 4 disks, the messages on screen was :
Compaq Solaris DU diskette for Solaris 2.6 !!!!! and also in the readme files on DU diskette, 2.6 appears, but these drivers have been take from Solaris 2.8 link !!!
Perhaps it's the reason it doesn't see it as the correct drivers ?
Do you have other link to download the drivers ?
    Thanks for your support.

  • Fail to install solaris 8 for intel

hello. i downloaded three files and made a CD for each one. but during the installing on a Dell PowerEdge 6450
(4 x Pentium III 550)which has two AIC 7899 ultra160/m SCSI adapters and a Dell PERC RAID controller (i note they are not included in the hardware compatibility list of solaris 8 for
intel), the install process stopped when it was "I2O Nexus:
initializing IO processor 0" and didn't go any further. when i attempt to intall it on another machine(2 x PIII 1000) which has a AIC 7892 ultra160/m SCSI adapter, the process
stopped saying "no disks that meet the criteria in the solaris installer documentation found" after solaris web start began to run. before this, it has reported resource conflict of PNP0C01
and ISY0050. and the installing stopped when "using RPC bootparams for network configuration information" on a PIII 800 PC. what's wrong with my installing. is it due to the incompatibility of hardware or something else?how to resolve it if possible? help is in need very much.besides, what does
DCA mean?sorry, i'm a newbie in this field.
    thanks
    xoing

    Hi,
Problem with PERC RAID controller card.
You try to install the driver for AIC 7899 and Dell PERC RAID controller card. In dell computers, they have dell PERC RAID controller driver for Solaris 7 version. They don't have the driver for solaris 8 version.
You can download driver for SCSI AIC 7899 from this URL:
    http://www.adaptec.com/worldwide/support/driverdetail.html?cat=/Product/ASC-39160&filekey=u160_slrs_v121_dd.img.Z
Then you check with your local dell support provider for PERC RAID controller driver for solaris 7 and solaris 8.
    Thanks.
    revert back.

  • NO FDISK OPTION DURING SOLARIS 8 INSTALLATION

I tried to install Solaris 8 on a Dell Optiplex GXM500 desktop and it failed midway with the following message
"NO DISKS THAT MEET THE CRITERIA IN THE SOLARIS INSTALLER DOCUMENTATION FOUND. CHECK YOUR CONFIGURATION OR SELECT ANOTHER INSTALLATION OPTION"
It did not give the option to fdisk the hard disk to create Solaris partitions. There is no problem with the hardware as all the hardware, including the hard disk (30 GB) was correctly indentified by the Solaris installer.
    Please help. Thanks in advance!
    Ola

Booting from the DCA floppy and loading the installation
solaris OS from the "Software 1 of 2" cdrom has the same
effect as directly booting from the "Software 1 of 2" cdrom.
It's the installer on the "Software 1 of 2" cdrom that
matters. It's the old and proven motif/openwindows
installer that allows more control over the installation
process and at the same time has less restrictions
(compared to the new java based webstart installer you
    find on the "installation" cdrom).

  • Master Solaris 8-9 sysadmin

    Hi:
I am from the HP-UX sysadmin world and i would like to Master Solaris Admin. I have about 8 years of experience in hp-ux and have worked briefly on solaris 7 before. Please let me know the answers to the following questions.
    1. Am i in the correct form to post this question?
    2. What should be the useful docs/url's that i would have to go thru (i went thru thre 2.x FAQ) and looks like those were basic admin stuff. where can i find details for advanced solaris admin details(even if it is a book please mention it to me)
    3. Also i found that for SAN Migrations in Solaris, it is very different from HP in the sense that the LUN masking information, WWN, information have to entered in sd.conf and lpfc.conf etc..where can i get more infor about SAN/veritas cluster etc on Solaris?
    Best Regards
    Saisel

    docs.sun.com for solaris related documentation
support.veritas.com for veritas related documentation -- I however doubt very much whether there's any website (outside of veritas) that covers VCS very well.
With the advent of the Leadville driver in Solaris, SAN administration (from the server persepective) has become relatively simple (look up on leadville driver, luxadm, cfgadm and devfsadm).

  • Solaris 8 x86 won't install

Please for give my ignorance, I know nothing about unix. I am taking a course on Solaris fundementals in a couple of weeks and I am trying to get a jump on the class by having a working version by the time it starts.
I just DL'd the CD images and burned the disks. I get to the part of the install where it leaves the command line and gets to the shell/window phase.
    A message comes up stating:
"No disks that meat the criteria in the Solaris installer documentation found
Please check the system or try another instalation option"
The PC I am attempting to install onto is made of pretty common components: Celeron II 533, Asus BX-133, 576 Megs PC-133 SDRAM, 3dfx voodoo 3 PCI, 3C905, 2 Wester Digital Hard Drives and a HiVal 52X CDROM.
The system has previously had Windows 2000 and Redmond Linux on it and they both ran with no problems. I used dos fdisk to remove the linux partitions before attempting to install Solaris.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks, Chris

Haha, I know that problem that allmost made me go crazy when I tried it again and again...
I think you tried booting from the Solaris installation CD did you?
Try booting from Solaris CD 1 / 2.
That worked without any problems for me even though I have a SCSI RAID System and thought that controller caused the problems.
And: Remove any partition on the harddrive before you install.

  • Solaris 10 Installation - Help Needed Please

    Hi,
I have just downloaded a copy of Solaris 10 and I cannot get it to install on my system.
At the moment I am using the GUI to try and install the OS. I can get past the part where you select the language 0 for english.... It then thinks about it for a bit and display the error message "No Disks Found, make sure they are cabled and connected". I then get put into the terminal window.
My system spec is as follows:
    Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe motherboard
Maxtor Diamondmax Plus 9 160GB Serial ATA150 Hard Disk.
    LG CD Burner
    LG DVD Burner
XP installed on half the hard disk. Nothing on the other partition.
I don't really know what I am doing wrong, so any advice would be gratefully recieved. This is the first time I have tried to install Solaris so it doesn't matter how basic the instructions are. I could do with keeping the XP installation, but it is not essential.
Is it possible to get Solaris to dual boot?

Refer to this link in the Solaris 10 documentation:
    http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/816-5177/6mbbc4g3d?a=view
Follow it for more info on setting up SATA support. As for dual booting, it should be possible with something like grub.

  • Solaris 10 iSNS server missing

The Solaris 10 Documentation -> System Admin Guide: Devices and File Systems (June 2009) - Chapter 15- "Configuring and Managing the Solaris Internet Storage Name Service (iSNS)" has a section called
    "Configuring the iSNS Server"
I have one Solaris 10 U7 server (x86) and Solaris 10 U8 server (sparc.) Neither have and services or packages matching "isns." The "isns" and "isnsadmin" commands are both missing. The U7, U8 and U9 DVD's do not contain any packages for matching isns.
The Oct 2009 version of the "Devices and File systems" documentation has omitted this chapter.
Was this never actually deployed? Or is it a separate download? How can I install it?
    Thanks

To my knowlege Solaris 10 never had an own bundled iSNS server.
iSNS is a feature of OpenSolaris/Nevada.
If you are lucky there are packages you can install on Solaris 10 at the Opensolaris site.

    Hello,
if you just want to verify if the ZIP-files are not damaged, just use the test-option of the used program to extract the iso-files from the ZIP-archive. But if they are damaged it's impossible to extract them anyway.
If you are asking for a way to check if the contents has been tampered, sorry I'm not aware of any for this particular situation.
