  • How to put together the iso for creatinga solaris 10 DVD

    HI
I've already downloaded the 5 parts for creating the solaris 10
DVD , and I can see from the instruction that i have to put them together to make a dvd . But I don't know how to do it, and it's not explained on the intructions.

    PS
Please forgive my bad English, I'm from Italy...

I think this answers the same question you are

Thanks I used cat under linux...But I have a much bigger problem now... Solaris doesnt want to install on my system.
It saya doesn't "see" any disk. Probably sloaris 10 doesn't support SATA (i have a maxtor 160 Gb SATA RAID) or my mobo K8VSE ;)

  • Software packages part of the Solaris 10 DVD's ?

    Hi there !
I need to install an application on a SUN sparc server who needs Solaris 10.
So I have started the download of the Solaris 10 DVD's to burn them, but I see my application also needs the following software packages :
    Entire distribution plus OEM package
    Fn64-bit drivers
    FnSun ONE Studio 8 (C and C++ 5.5)
    FnSUNWsan
    FnSUNWarc
    FnSUNWbtool
    FnSUNWhea
    FnSUNWlibm
    FnSUNWlibms
    FnSUNWsprot
    FnSUNWtoo
    FnSUNWi1of
    FnSUNWi1cs
    FnSUNWi15cs
    FnSUNWxwfnt
    FnSUNWsprox
    FnSFWbdb
    FnSFWcurl
    FnSFWsudo
So I'd like to know if those packages are already part of the Solaris 10 by default, of If I can / need to download those packages separately - for free, and install them after the Solaris is installed ?
Can someone clarify this to me ?
    Many Thanks !

  • Solaris 10 DVD install fails at 90%

Hi, this is my first time posting here. I've used a variety of linux distributions for a few years now: first Red Hat, then Suse, then Ubuntu, and currently Gentoo. So I have familiarity with installs and *nix systems.  Now I'm trying to install Solaris 10 on a second hard drive with the install DVD that I burned from a download.  After a few tries, and learning some Solaris command line, I went ahead and selected my custom packages, then made my custom partitioning layout on the second disk, then I began the package install.
It took a while, so I was not there the whole time, but before the error, package install was at 90%. I know I had enough room on the partition for all the packages. After checking the system again I found that it had stopped, and began complaining about not finding packages on the install disk.
I tried the install again, this time with a minimum of my intervention and custom packaging selection. Again the install fails after it is mostly installed. After learning how to mount an IBM formatted disk, I copied the install logs to it, and I'd like to attach them to this post, but I can't see how to do that, if anyone can tell me how to add log files, I'd appreciate it. I just don't want to paste their entire contents here because they're too large.
Thanks in advance for the help,
    Sam

Hi. I had your same problem with Solaris Express Developer Edition 01/08.
The PC was complaining about the failed installation of some packages:
    SUNWsndmr
    SUNWsndmu
    SUNWsolnm
I suspected they were audio drivers and/or libraries.
So I decided to do an absolutely minimum installation and I even excluded anything that was unnecessary and Audio-related. Actually Solaris Installer complained about unsatisfied USB debendencies, but went on anyway...
    And it worked!
    Solaris completed the installation.
I don't know if it's possible to add the left out drivers in a second moment yet. We'll see.
Maybe I'm wrong but, from your logfiles you seem to have a similar problem with:
    SUNWgttf
    SUNWgnome-config
    SUNWgnome-vfs-root
And I suspect it may be due to a CD/DVD read error.

  • Can't mount Solaris 10 DVD

I've been having trouble mounting the Solaris 10 10/08 Operating System SPARC DVD after installation so that I can add packages from the DVD. Rather than burn my own DVDs, I bought the media kit. Booting from that DVD in order to install Solaris 10 on this Sun Blade 150 workstation was successful, but it should now automatically mount when I insert it. This is using the internal DVD ROM drive that came with the workstation.
I can mount the other DVDs in the kit.
I can mount the problem DVD on Windows Vista, but that environment messes with the file names while creating a ZIP file so that by the time the package gets to the workstation where it's needed, it's useless.
Next, I bought an external DVD ROM drive and got the same results on my workstation.
I then moved the external DVD ROM drive to my Sun Fire V210 server and got the same results.
Finally, I asked the fine folks at Sun to send me a replacement DVD. They sent the whole kit. The results are exactly the same on the workstation with the internal DVD ROM drive. I can't mount the SPARC DVD, but I can mount the x86 DVD for example.
I previously attempted to burn the DVDs using the only drive I own that is supposed to have that capability, an internal drive on the Windows Vista PC. That failed.
This should work using the media kit that I bought. What's the solution?

It is as jluband1 described in that thread, but only for the SPARC version of the Solaris 10 Update 6 DVD. The workaround communicated by maureen12345 is successful:
    # svcadm disable -t volfs

  • How-To create a customized Solaris 10 DVD for Sparc with GRUB

I am currently using Solaris 10 U6 x86 custom jumpstart from DVD. This boot mechanism has always been Grub. I know that Solaris 10 U8 Sparc boot mechanism has been changed to Grub as well. I have referenced an excellent Blueprint on creating customized jumpstart DVD for x86. I am looking for some documentation or Blueprint which describe the similar process for Sparc. I am hoping the mkisofs command options will be the most significant difference between x86 and Sprarc.
Is there a document which describes the de-composition of the DVD for Sparc based platforms? And the re-assembly of the custom DVD?
    Thanks very much.

  • Solaris installation DVD lost

    Good morning,
In conclusion of thread "https://forums.oracle.com/forums/message.jspa?messageID=10881333" (Installation of patch "118833-36"), I would like to install Solaris 10 on a T5120 machine. Therefore I need Solaris 10, edition 06/06 (1/06/2006).
Does anybody know the link where I can download that DVD? (I have an Oracle support login that I can use for doing the download, but I don't know the URL)
    Thanks
    Dominique

For this platform, you can use any versions that are egal or more recent that Solaris 10 8/07 (U4) or Solaris 10 10/08 (U6) for SATA DVD Support.
The U11 version is downloadable directly on www.oracle.com website. But any older versions, please check MOS document ID # [1277964.1|https://support.oracle.com/epmos/faces/DocContentDisplay?id=1277964.1]

  • Solaris 10 DVD ISO - no file extensions?!

So I download the Solaris DVD image in 5 parts. They come zipped, which is fine. So I extract them all into one directory. Then I go to put them onto a DVD...
But the DVD doesn't even recognize them as image files!
I know they can't all be .iso, because then they would each be a separate "project" that would result in 5 DVDs; a total waste.
Anyone know what I should rename the files?

The five files that you dnld'd have to be combined into one iso after they are unzipped. If you are using windows you must open a command prompt and combine them with the command: "copy /b file1+fiel2+file3+file4+file5 newfilename.iso"
    If using linux "cat file1 file2 file3 file4 file5 >newfilename.iso
These commands were posted above the download section when I got my files. For the record I was not able to burn a clean dvd from windows. I used Suse 10 and worked great !

  • Unable to install Solaris 10 DVD.

    Hello,
We have an Ultra 45 with Solaris 10 installed on it (one zone, the default one). After changing the IP/YP settings to get it to work in a new location it worked for a while and then failed to boot.
So I decided to reinstall the OS with a version 10 DVD and CD. In each case "boot cdrom" gets me to the same question in Openboot:
    Enter filename [kernel/sparcv9/unix]
Preceeded by "cannot find the above file".
Can someone please help me with how to blank out the filename - so that it will boot the CD/DVD into installation menu?
    Thanks in advance.
    Vince.

Try devalias from the "ok" prompt. Perhaps the "cdrom" alias is pointing to a hard drive slice...is misconfigured... or maybe does not exist at all.
With the other devalias examples visible, you might be able to figure out where the cdrom is attached, then boot followed by the full address typed in as the 'argument'.
Try probe-scsi-all , for a list of attached devices, which might help if you have no examples under devalias ; Then try booting with the full address given, plus the appropriate "disk@" number [maybe /../../disk@6,0].
Look around in "OpenBoot", check out the help options; maybe don't change too much untill you are sure of the outcome.
It is worth mentioning that sometimes the booting procedure just needs some time to finish what it is trying, and does not always comment verbosely on what it is+ trying to do.

  • Solaris 10 DVD does not see my SATA drive.

    Hello!
I wanted to install Solaris 10 on Samsung HDD connected to SATA PCI controller. The controller is based on Sil 3112A chipset. If it helps it has a RAID function built in, however I don't use RAID. I boot computer from DVD, I think just after setting the root password, Solaris install script tells me that I do not have any disks powered up or something like that. Is there any way I could install Solaris 10 on my HDD? I do not want and will not use IDE converter stuff.

This has already been discussed a bazillion times.
There is no support for those drives until Solaris 10,
and even in Sol10 it is problematic.
Please search these forums, using keyword <u>sata</u>.
Additionally, try the link to the Solaris 10 forums at the side of the page, and search inside there as well.

  • Closed lid during DVD reinstallation - opend lid but no power

The DVD still appears to be clicking and I assume the installation is still commencing but I can't get the screen on. Is there a manual shortcut to toggle the screen on/off?
If I hard shut down using power button will it damage/corrupt hard disk?

I should point out that these forums are user-to-user only. Apple employees do not participate here at all frequently, and those that do on those rare occasions have no power to help you. So if you really are asking for a replacement, this isn't the place for you to submit your request. You'll need to contact Apple Customer Relations; I'm not sure how you'd contact them, but if you call 1-800-1441-0234 and ask for Customer Relations, they should be able to direct you.
    Good luck.

  • Is it possible to create a Solaris DVD?

Does anyone know if it's possible to create a Solaris 9 DVD from the installation cds? I find it rather impossible, I'm just wondering...
    Maybe a live Solaris cd/dvd?

If you do this with Toast, the disc will play in any set top player, the WMVHD file will not show up until the user 'explores' the disc in their computer.
You could do all of this from within DVDSP if you simply add the WMVHD as ROM content - you don't need to use DVD@ccess if you don't want to... doing it this way you can write the project to DLT and avoid some of the pitfalls of using a DVD-R as a master for replication (I take it you are replicating this project?)
In Toast, click on the Data tab and select the 'advanced' view from the drawer. make sure DVD-ROM (UDF) is selected and then drag the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders into the window. Now either add a folder and put the WMVHD in that, or simply drag the footage to the root of the disc. Click the 'Record Disc' button in the bottom right corner, and go from there. You should end up with a disc that can be played in a set top player, with content that can only be played via a computer.

  • Install Solaris 10 using HP-UX 11.23 NFS-mounted DVD

    Hi,
I have a Sun Netra t1 105 w/512MB memory currently running Solaris 8. It does not have a DVD drive; so I mounted Solaris 10 DVD on a HP-UX 11.23 server. From the Sun, I can read DVD fine, but if I want to do a manual install of Solaris 10 using command line. When I execute ./installer it begins Live Update interface. The Sun box is not using volume manager. What's best way to upgrade Solaris 8 to 10 using NFS'd DVD?
