Solaris 10 Encryption Kit vs Solaris 10 OS SUNWcry/SUNWcrman/SUNWcryr

Does the Solaris 10 Encryption Kit provide anything that is not already provided by the
SUNWcry, SUNWcrman and SUNWcryr packages in the solaris 10 update 4 OS, or
more recent updates? Is there any need to install the Encryption Kit on update 4 or beyond?
Thanks,

Many of those packages (like the ones ending in 'x')
do not exist for Solaris 10 for SPARC. Why do you
think you need them on Solaris 10?
DarrenYes, I found these under Solaris 10 product folder:
SUNWarc SUNWcpcu SUNWcpc.u SUNWcpc.us SUNWsprot
SUNWzlib SUNWlxml
Do you know if the following still need under Solaris 10, we have this list from Solaris 9. Or if you know any corresponding name that is used in Solaris 10?
SUNWbtoox
SUNWcrman
SUNWcry
SUNWcry64
SUNWcryr
SUNWcryrx
SUNWvts
SUNWvtsmn
SUNWvtsx
Thanks again!

    The link on the Downloads section doesn't work. Says something about this catalog doesn't list free downloads and prompts me to go back to the Download Center home and reselect the free downloads....
    Can't find any pointers to this package so that I can download it.

    Are you using Firefox, etc, instead of IE? the download center and Firefox sometimes get confused for me.

  • Reg:SM69 Error

    HI All,
    I am trying to execute a encryption kit by using the batch file  which are placed in the R/3 Application server using external OS command(TCode:SM69) in SAP ,but while executing am getting an error like "The system cannot find the path specified".Please suggest me how i can rectify this error.
    Regards,
    Arpitam

    Hi
    First of all, these errors are database errors and I am not an expert in database troubleshooting. I am an expert in Discoverer but this is not usually caused by Discoverer.
    NLS issues relate to language incompatibilities between the language set up on the database server and the language set up on the client PC. It could even be that you have have different language sets in use. My research tells me that older Oracle databases are more prone to this error than the newer ones. It can even be caused by the use of an old version of SQL Plus connecting to a newer database.
    This error is typically something that should be handled by a DBA who will have access to the system's error logs. If it is not a mismatch of languages, which is the usual cause, more than likely, your DBA will need to contact Oracle support.
    I hope this helps

  • Issue with encrypted stdin in solaris

    hi all ..
    i've found a following problem:
    i need to build .bin file installer for customer .. i am used to use following way:
    cat script.sh data.tgz > installer.binbut when trying from within script cut data.tgz part, returned file is encrypted and its type is changed
    from :: data.tgz: gzip compressed data - deflate method
    to :: foo.tgz: gzip compressed data - deflate method , extra field , original file name , comment , encrypted
    it works like charm under Linux and under osx, i tested it under these two other NIXes. I created a example script which accepts both solaris and Linux:
    #!/bin/sh
    case `uname -s` in
        Linux ) tar=`which tar`;;
        SunOS ) tar=`ls /usr/sfw/bin/gtar || echo missing gtar binary 1>&2 && exit 1`;;
    esac
    sed '1,/^###\ end$/d' $0 | md5sum -;
    sed '1,/^###\ end$/d' $0 | $tar tzvf -;
    exit 0;
    ### endyou can put there some random .tgz file for testing ..
    just for example, under solaris md5sum differs and gtar vomits following error message while trying to unpack extracted .tgz:
    # ./installer.bin
    09bd431049e6777a1f8db5c35bf00018  -
    gzip: stdin is encrypted -- not supported
    /usr/sfw/bin/gtar: Child died with signal 13
    /usr/sfw/bin/gtar: Error exit delayed from previous errors^^ so i presume that the main problem is in message: *"gzip: stdin is encrypted -- not supported"*
    Linux prints out a correct md5sum and content of archive for exactly same file ..
    any idea please?
    regards, daniel

    thanks .. resolved .. it causes Sun flavoured sed .. perl produces correct cut data.tgz part this way:
    # perl -ne 'if(/^### end$/) {$print=1; next}; print if $print' installer.bin | md5sum -; md5sum data.tgz
    e8d365e3b01e2712fbddb85b240aca10  -
    e8d365e3b01e2712fbddb85b240aca10  data.tgzresolved !!

    If you are seldom in a Wi-Fi Network Area, then you can turn off Wi-Fi until you knowingly are in such a Network Area.  You can go through your Applications where you don't really need to know the instant an Update is available and turn off the push update notifications.  You can turn down the screen brightness.  You can set the sleep cycle to 1-min.  You could set your email to check for new messages every 30-min. rather than less than 1 min.  Just some of many steps available.

  • BOE 3.1 SR3 on Solaris SPARC - how to for Int kit for SAP Solutions ?

    Hi,
    this is my first BOE installation and I've just installed the BOE SR3 Enterprise Server on Solaris SPARC with SAP WAS 7.0 and Oracle 11.2.0.2 providing the CMS database location and the Java application server for the BOE applications.
    The installation went ok and all BOE Server services are running. I've now got to install the XI 3.1 SR3 BOBJ Integration for SAP Solutions kit and have read the installation and administration guide for this.
    The pre-requisites state that the SAP RFC & Java Connector needs to be put in place before deploying. Are these not part of the NW 7 WAS 7.0 Java Server anyway ?
    If anyone has any pointers to more detailed instructions for doing Integration for SAP solutions kit other than the guide then please let me know.
    Regards,
    Brian.

    Hello Ingo,
    many thanks for your reply, although I'm still confused. My Business Objects 3.1 Enterprise Server runs on the same host as a NW 7 WAS and has it's applications deployed and running on the NW 7 WAS Java instance .According to OSS 549268 you should not use the standalone SAP JCO connector if your applications are running on a SAP WAS - it has it's own integrated SAP Java Connector
    "SAP JCo is available for two different environments: there is the standalone version and the version integrated in the SAP J2EE Engine. These two JCo variants have a compatible API but are implemented differently, so you may not mix them together within one environment.
    SAP JCo 2.1 is the standalone version and can be used in all Java applications not running in an SAP J2EE Engine environment.
    So it seems I don't need to use the standalone Java connector ?

    Brian.

  • JRock Kit for Solaris 10 x86/x64

    Hi,
    Why don't exist a Jrock Kit distribution for
    Solaris 10 x86/x64?
    I have Bea 8.1, 9.2 for Solaris 10
    x86/x64 and now Oracle 10g Rel 2 and I don't understand why
    BEA don't release it.
    Thanx
    Giancarlo

    Porting JRockit to new OSes/architectures is very expensive, so we have to prioritize the porting effort based on customer interest, and there has been very little demand for JRockit on Solaris/x86. Most customers purchasing Sun x86 hardware use Windows or Linux.

  • Solaris 10  SHA256 password encryption

    I need to put together a statement of how secure this is.
    Can anyone answer the following?
    Ref SHA256 password encryption on Solaris 10
    *1/*
    Is the password Salt: prepended, appended or intermingled in some other way with the password prior to hashing?
    *2/*
    The password Salt must be different for each user. How is this achieved?
    E.G. Salt includes identifying data such as User id, time, sudo random constant….?
    *3/*
    Is the salt protected to the same extent as the hash values are protected?
    *4/*
    Does the salt have a minimum length of 64 bits, 128 or higher is preferred?

    Ref SHA256 password encryption on Solaris 10SHA256 is independent of the computer and it's operating system so 'Solaris 10' is irrelevant.
    >
    *1/*
    Is the password Salt: prepended, appended or intermingled in some other way with the password prior to hashing?It does not matter. What one is trying to do is to make dictionary attacks difficult and this is what the salt does.
    >
    *2/*
    The password Salt must be different for each user. How is this achieved?
    E.G. Salt includes identifying data such as User id, time, sudo random constant….?For each user one has a random set of seed bytes which are stored in the user's data record. Any fairly random set will do and there is no requirement for them to be secret in the same way that an encryption key is.
    >
    *3/*
    Is the salt protected to the same extent as the hash values are protected?The hash value and seed are not so much secret as confidential. For an attacker to use a dictionary attack he has to build a dictionary for each seed. If the seeds are random then he will might build a dictionary to attack one particular user's password but when he moves on to the next he will need to rebuild the dictionary.
    >
    *4/*
    Does the salt have a minimum length of 64 bits, 128 or higher is preferred?I use 64 bits but since I'm not a security consultant so you can't take this as a recommendation. One could say "the more bits the better" but the more you have the bigger the field needed in the users data record.
    If you really want a definitive statement on all of this then hire a security consultant. It will cost you but it might give your employers more confidence in any statement he makes than it should in the statements I have made.

  • Solaris 10 media kit availability

    Hello,
    I would like to purchase a "boxed set" a.k.a. the "media kit" for Solaris 10. My understanding is that this will not be available until the revenue release. Does anybody know if this is correct and if it is what is the schedule for the revenue release?
    Or, is the media kit already available but I just couldn't find it on Sun's website?

    You can purchase the media kit at the sun store here:

  • Encrypting password in shell script on Solaris 10.

    Hi,
    I have a shell script & in that the username & password is specified. I can see the password. Is there any way to encrpyt password in Unix scripts on solaris 10 box.
    Please suggest.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Tejas

    Here are some examples of avoiding passwords in scripts.
    First, if it's a script that needs to use remote login, you could set up ssh keys in the authorized_keys file of the remote system to allow auto-authentication.
    As a more general example, you could create a shell function that prompts for the password and stores it in an environment variable to be used by the script or utility that you want to use. Here is an example that we use in our Red Hat systems to allow yum to tunnel through our http proxy:
    function yumproxy(){
        echo -n "Enter Proxy Username: "
        read -e username
        echo -n "Enter Proxy Password: "
        read -es password
        echo
        export http_proxy="http://$username:$password@ourproxyserver:8080/"
    }This is in .bashrc so that we can run it once just before running any yum commands (not that this means anything in a Solaris forum!)

  • Solaris Express Developer Edition, free DVD kit

    Today I ordered the "Free Solaris Express Developer Edition DVD":
    "For a limited time, Sun is offering a Solaris Express Developer Edition DVD for x86 platforms mailed to you at no charge." (http://developers.sun.com/sxde/download.jsp)
    Will I get the new 9/07 version or an older one? When I ordered Solaris 10 some time ago, Sun sent me version 11/06.
    Thanks!

    Well, it looks like this version of Solaris simply forgot to bundle the FLAC gstreamer plugin. Does anyone know where to find a version compiled for solaris?

  • Encrypted block devices - loficc driver compiled for Solaris 10

    Hi all,
    First post, and hopefully a useful one :)
    I've managed to compile the OpenSolaris loopback block device with crypto support (loficc) on my Solaris 10 system, and it appears to work.
    Download available here: http://ashbysoft.com/download/loficc-sol10.tgz
    Phil.

    Well, much of the contents of Solaris 10 make up the base of OpenSolaris. So you could open a bug against OpenSolaris without a contract, and any fixes should eventually make their way back.
    In fact, you could recompile the driver and see how it operates. The code does show the difference you report.
       1603    * [4] Data is buffered in the driver and pre-acked to the application. This
       1604    *      is only supported in Solaris 2.5.1.(See: http://cvs.opensolaris.org/source/xref/onnv/onnv-gate.bad/usr/src/uts/common/io/scsi/targets/st_conf.c)
    However my assumption is that this flag should not be necessary. If you override the DLT7000 to remove that bit, does it crater as well? I wouldn't think that the driver acknowledgments would be required for some speed here.
    What application are you using to dump the data? 'dd' with a big buffer size? (dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/rmt/0cbn bs=128k count=5000)? This bit should increase the speed if the app is especially sensitive to the acknowledgement time.

  • How long for Solaris 10 6/06 CDs?

    How long before Sun will have the Solaris Media Kit containing the latest release 6/06 for purchase? Just curious.
    Thanks.

    I've seen this before. Sometimes the installation doesn't prompt for a root password, and you can't login as root. Just power-off the system and start in failsafe mode. Then mount the root partition(it asks you if you'd like to do that) and edit /[mountpoint]/etc/shadow and remove the encrypted passwd string:
    root:R1yP.BOK1xTeU:6445::::::
    becomes
    root:::::::
    Then reboot, choose command-line login and log in as root.
