Solaris 10 hands-off installation from a bootable DVD

Hello,
I have a problem with installing the Solaris 10 using a bootable DVD with a flar archive. I want this installation to be totally hands-off, but unfortunately after I run this boot command at the ok prompt:
ok boot cdrom - install ...
the system is rebooted and the interactive Solaris Installation Program is launched:
{color:#3366ff}-- The Solaris Installation Program
The Solaris installation program is divided into a series of short sections
where you'll be prompted to provide information for the installation. At
the end of each section, you'll be able to change the selections you've
made before continuing.
About navigation...
- The mouse cannot be used
- If your keyboard does not have function keys, or they do not
respond, press ESC; the legend at the bottom of the screen
will change to show the ESC keys to use for navigation.

On the next screens I have to choose the NFS4 domain:
{color:#3366ff}-- NFSv4 Domain Name{color}
{color:#3366ff}NFS version 4 uses a domain name that is automatically derived from the
system's naming services. The derived domain name is sufficient for most
configurations. In a few cases, mounts that cross domain boundaries might
cause files to appear to be owned by "nobody" due to the lack of a common
domain name.
The current NFSv4 default domain is: ""

After I select "Continue", the installation is proceeding automatically.
Could you please tell me what I should to to make this installation hands-free?
The sysidcfg file contains these parameters:
system_locale=C
timezone=PST8PDT
timeserver=localhost
terminal=sun-cmd
name_service=NONE
nfs4_domain=dynamic
network_interface=primary {netmask=255.255.255.0 protocol_ipv6=no}
security_policy=NONE
I have found some information in the internet, that I need to create the
.NFS4inst_state.domain file in /etc directory. But it doesn't work...
I have also read that I need to edit the post installation script, but as far as I know this script is executed after the installation, so it doesn't affect the solaris Installation Program that is launched after the first reboot.
If you could give me any tips on how to resolve yhis problem, I'd be very thankful.
Regards,
Przemek

I had similar, not identical, issues with a custom JumpStart DVD I was creating. I was not using flar and it was for x86, not SPARC.
I found that changing the case for the value assigned to network_interface made a difference. In looking at the sysidcfg manpage and online JumpStart documentation, all the examples they used had capitalized "PRIMARY" and "NONE". When I changed the value to the capitalized equivelant, my particular issue had gone away.
You may also want to consider adding ip_address and default_route to the network_interface section. Test either way to identify the differing results.
In my particular scenereo, I did not want any networking configuration to be done. The resulting line in sysidcfg was:
network_interface=NONE {hostname=jsclient}HTH

  • Solaris 10 3/05 installation from cd

    the installation hang on the "discovering additional network configuration..."

    When does it happen?
    Maybe your computer is not connected to the network.
    During installation process, you will be asked to configure your network, after the configuration, setup program checks the network, and if your computer is not connected it will take a long time (like hanging) and after you will get error message.

  • Hand off notifications show and do not work with Chrome

    If Chrome if set as your default browser, hand off notifications from my iPhone will show up. However, tapping the notification will not open the URL in any browser.
    Worse is that switching to the default browser to Safari doesn't immediately fix the issue. Hand off notifications will still come in from Chrome, which cannot be opened.  Only after locking/unlocking my iPhone will Safari take effect as the default browser.

    Solved!
    I've fixed the problem, finally, by setting GTK_IM_MODULE to xim, and leaving XMODIFIERS as ibus. My .xinitrc now looks like this:
    export GTK_IM_MODULE=xim #Fix for Chrome
    export QT_IM_MODULE=xim #Not sure if this works or not, but whatever
    export XMODIFIERS=@im=ibus
    ibus-daemon -drx
    exec startlxde
    Now I can type Chinese in Chrome, properly!

  • Recovery Partition vs. Bootable DVD

    Okay, so I recently screwed things up on my [brand new] rMBP thanks to Windows which led me to formatting the main had drive [Apple SSD.. and not Macintosh HD] Now, even Internet Recovery won't work and it tells me to contact AppleCare (which I can't do at the moment).
    QUESTION: Is it possible to install Mountain Lion from a bootable DVD or does the Recovery partition also download additional software specific to the Mac I have, and so installing from bootable DVD won't work?
    Thanks in advance,
    Ayman

    Don't use a DVD. Better to use a USB flash drive.
    Make Your Own Mountain/Lion Installer
    1. After downloading Mountain/Lion you must first save the Install Mac OS X Mountain/
        Lion application. After Mountain/Lion downloads DO NOT click on the Install button.
        Go to your Applications folder and make a copy of the Mountain/Lion installer. Move
        the copy into your Downloads folder. Now you can click on the Install button. You
        must do this because the installer deletes itself automatically when it finishes
        installing.
    2. Get a USB flash drive that is at least 8 GBs. Prep this flash drive as follows:
      a. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
      b. After DU loads select your flash drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left
          side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
      c. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one.
          Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the
          partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until
          the process has completed.
      d. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side
          list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
      e. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the
          button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
      f. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to an hour depending upon the flash
         drive size.
    3. Locate the saved Mountain/Lion installer in your Downloads folder. CTRL- or RIGHT-click on the installer and select Show Package Contents from the contextual menu. Double-click on the Contents folder to open it. Double-click on the SharedSupport folder. In this folder you will see a disc image named InstallESD.dmg.
    4. Plug in your freshly prepared USB flash drive. You are going to clone the content of the InstallESD.dmg disc image to the flash drive as follows:
      a. Double-click on the InstallESD.dmg file to mount it on your Desktop.
      b. Open Disk Utility.
      c. Select the USB flash drive from the left side list.
      d. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
      e. Select the USB flash drive volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
      f. Drag the mounted disc icon from the Desktop into the Source entry field.
      g. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
    When the clone is completed you have a fully bootable installer that you can use without having to re-download Mountain/Lion.
    Note: The term Mountain/Lion used above means Lion or Mountain Lion.
    As an alternative to the above (you still have to do your own download of Lion/Mountain Lion) you can try using Lion DiskMaker 2.0 that automates the process of Steps 2 through 4.

  • Installing windows from an external DVD-RW

    I am having troubles booting the windows installer from an external DVD-RW drive. It runs loudly and then goes to a screen with a folder with a question mark. When I am in OS X it gives me the option of starting from the disc, but again it gives me the folder. When I press option as it starts up, it only shows my OS X disc.

  • Unable to Install OS X Yosemite from USB Bootable Installer

    I have created a Yosemite USB bootable installer using similar instructions (I changed source and target names as appropriate) as provided to create a Mavericks USB bootable installer - Creating a bootable OS X installer in OS X Mavericks
    Target disk has been wiped clean, verified, partitioned, etc.
    After booting from the USB bootable installer, and agreeing to the terms of the software license agreement and choosing the newly cleaned disk to have OS X installed on, installation starts and the following dialogue box appears ...
    "This copy of the Install OS X Yosemite application can't be verified. It may have been corrupted or tampered with during downloading."
    Thinking I may have corrupted something I re-downloaded Yosemite, walked through the whole process and received the same 'sad' results.
    I also followed the same process with Mavericks -- same message with "Mavericks" instead of "Yosemite".
    Equipment:  MacBook Pro -- Model A1286
    Error logs (from the installer) are verbose but don't seem to have any unusual 'complaints'.
    Any thoughts?

    You can try a few things. That message is likely due to a network problem.
    Try signing in and downloading while ethernet connected.
    Try another network.
    Or you can try:
    Removed files below located within /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/
      - com.apple.airport.preferences.plist
    - com.apple.network.identification.plist
    - com.apple.wifi.message-tracer.plist
    - NetworkInterfaces.plist
    - preferences.plist
    Restart the computer, connect to your network and try downloading again.

    Can I to install Solaris 8 from network, booting installation from diskette?
    I have the packages downloaded from www.sunfreeware.com in my disk, but no encountred how install this SO.
    Thank you.

    I'm not quite sure what you are asking. Solaris 8 is not available from sunfreeware, only additional freeware packages to be loaded after Solaris is installed. Solaris 8 can be downloaded and "burned" to CD from : http://wwws.sun.com/software/solaris/binaries/get.html

    Why can't I hand off a call from my iPhone to my mac using continuity?  Am I missing something?  Does't seem to allow me to do this, just the other way around.  Any suggestions?

    When the call is already in progress it doesn't allow you to do that; just the other way around.

  • I erased my HD. Now I can't instal mountain lion from my bootable flash drive, and keep getting "installation error. Try again."

    I bought  mountain lion, made a bootable flash drive.
    I booted from it and it went to upgrading right away!
    So I stopped it and went to my former recovery partition I erased my HD because I wanted a clean start.
    Now I can't instal mountain lion from the bootable flash drive, and keep getting "installation error. Try again."
    and there is no 4 choices window.
    I don't know what to do.

    How did you create the USB install thumb drive? If it was with Disk Utility I have run into this problem and have since used THIS program to make the USB install drive.
    As to your problem you only have one option and that is to Reinstall the Original OS X version that came on your computer or if you still have the Lion Recovery Partition use that to reinstall Lion. Or if you system came with Lion and you have No Lion Recovery HD Partition you can boot the system from over the internet and Reinstall Lion.
    At startup hold down the Command+Option+r keys until you saa a spinning Globe in the center of the screen. Once that loads Repartition the drive as One partition and then reinstall Lion.

  • IWork can't "hand off" from MBP to iPhone or iPad.

    Hi, all~
    The Safari, mail, contact is all OK to "hand off" between iPhone, iPad,and Macbook Pro.
    The problem I have now is that iWork on Macbook Pro can not "hand off" to iPhone & iPad.
    But iWork on iPhone or iPad can hand off to Macbook Pro.
    Does there anybody have the same problem?
    Thank you very much~

    Any fix would be great.

  • IPad not handing off from WiFi to 3G?

    I've been using my 3G iPad for about 3 weeks exclusively on WiFi, and love it. Last week I enabled the 3G account with AT&T for a trip, and to test the capability. I'm a tad confused, so thanks in advance.
    I have both WiFi and Cellular turned on (I know the battery issues with this) yet the ONLY way I can get Cellular to pick up around my home is to turn WiFi off in settings. It simply will not hand off automagically, as the two phones do, if it loses the signal. I searched the forum, and this doesn't seem to be the expected behavior. AT&T tells me I have to turn WiFi off, which doesn't seem correct.
    By "pick up" I mean if I've walked into the yard, somewhere outside of the reach of the LAN, and I can't get anywhere with WiFi, I want the 3G to kick in, and connect. This does not happen.
    Am I doing something wrong? I've read that WiFi is the default if both are operational, but how "dead" does the WiFi signal need to be for the 3G to connect? Thanks, all.

    Greetings,
    The WiFi signal has to be pretty much non-existant for it to work as you want. Once you get away from your WiFi, or any other you have registered with, it will work on the 3G.
    All you can do if the iPad is picking up WiFi, and you want it to work off of 3G, you'll have to turn off the WiFi.
    The iPad may be able to pick up the signal better then your phones do - that's what I surmise. Try taking your iPad to a park, or something like that. My iPad receives the WiFi signal around my home much farther than my phones do.
    Cheers,
    M.
