Solaris 10 HP Inkjet  prints config file?

Hello All,
I was able to install the printer ok but when a try and print something I get about 6 pages of what appears to be a config file or something.
The printer is a HP 6122 and is attached via lp1.
I've tried changing the options in the printer properties view but it does not make any differance.
Any input would be appreciated.
Thank you,
Tom

Thanks Alan. I worked on trying to get the NIC working again last night. I had it working once, although the settings did not perist. I can still get the device to load, but I can't communciate with the router (it's not physical because another OS can reach it.
I took your advice and tried the sys-unconfig. But I did not have much success.
I am wondering if plopping in a new PCI NIC would be the most efficient route to get the server up.
What kind of NIC do you utilize and have had success with?
I am looking at possibly a DLINK DFE-530 or NetGear FA-311. I don't need wireless at this point just a rock solid DEV box.
Thanks again for the previous info.

  • Print Text File in NW 3.12?

    I have to admit some ignorance regarding NetWare printing, so my
    apologies in advance...
    I work for a document management company, and am trying to find a
    solution for a customer running a fairly archaic, DOS 6.22-based
    application that utilizes a NetWare 3.12 server for file and print
    services. My need is to retrieve print output from their application,
    in the form of a text file, and then reprocess it for automated faxing
    through a fax server device.
    My problem is this: their application seems to print directly to a
    printer by defining what it calls a "network port" (which seems to map
    to a spooler, 0 through 5) or LPT1, and by referencing a printer
    definition. As far as I can tell, the files that are deposited in the
    print queue are byte streams, i.e., they're not human-readable (they
    have extra characters that I'm assuming are control characters). They
    therefore aren't usable by my print distribution software.
    I've tried using CAPTURE to send to a text file, but the application
    seems to conflict with the command. If I set CAPTURE, then start the
    application and send a job to LPT1, the application returns an error
    that the printer is unavailable. Upon exiting the application the port
    is no longer being captured (although I've tried all of the options I
    can think of to keep it so). Oddly enough, the application does
    successfully print a text file to LPT2 (for a barcode printer), which
    is CAPTUREd via a command in the system autoexec.bat. This is done a
    different part of the application.
    If anyone can help me figure out a way to generate a text file in this
    environment, or to work with the print file that's currently being sent
    to the queue (e.g, can it be translated somehow to a simple text file?),
    that would be much, much appreciated. This customer is in a tight spot,
    with an unsupported application that they can't presently afford to
    upgrade. My solution would save them enough money over time to replace
    the system.
    Again, thanks in advance for any help!

    If the Dos app has no print drivers included, then indeed it is relying
    on NW and PRINTDEF/PRINTCON to do the formatting stuff. That must have
    already been set up for it to be successfully printing now, it's just a
    matter of adding a definition that doesn't do anything to the print text.
    >In fact, given my ignorance of the NetWare environment, I'm not sure
    how the term "driver" even applies, unless it would refer to the
    printer definition.
    I was referring to a driver within the Dos app, nothing to do with
    NetWare. For instance Word Perfect for Dos came with Dos drivers for all
    sorts of printers, one of which was a generic text driver.
    >I wonder: is there a setting in PRINTDEF that could be changed for one
    of the printer configs that would influence the output? Or, would
    PRINTCON apply in this environment?
    Not supplied, AFAICS, but either one of the simpler print drivers
    supplied such as Diablo will do, or you'd need to set one up. Hopefully
    http://www.novell.com/documentation/...a/fm19724.html
    will help you enough as it's been too long since I did it to remember
    the details.

  • My Wireless HP ENVY 4500 All-In-One Printer Has Stopped Printing PDF Files

    I installed the subject wirelessly printer about 1 years ago. It works quite well with my iMac OS X10.9.1 desktop and my Win7 laptop PC. But, it recently stopped printing PDF files for no apparent reason, and I get no error messages.
    It won't print PDFs from my browsers nor from Adobe Reader (11.0.07) ... but all other document file types print OK from my browsers and Reader.
    The only thing that comes close to printing PDFs is that sometimes, when I try to print a PDF page or file from within Adobe Reader, it prints - on a single sheet - 6 tiny duplicate sections of what appears to be the upper right-hand quadrant only of the original PDF document.
    Please note that I un-installed and re-installed the printer and its driver twice without success. Also, no amount of printer re-configuring of layout, size, etc. made a difference. I received some previous work-around advice about converting the PDFs to a Word document, and printing that. But this is just not convenient; and besides, the printer is suppose to print PDFs (PDF is my document of choice for basically all my collaborative work). I should also state that I received no help with this problem from the HP ENVY user group forum; so, I guess that means you may be my last resort. And finally, I don't know if this is relevant or not, but I upgraded my iMac from Snow Leopard (OS X 10.6) to Mavericks (OS X 10.9) a few months ago - this upgrade was frought with all sorts of teething problems! - and I am now somewhat suspicious that something in the upgrade might have something to do with my current PDF problem.
    Could someone please advise me on any Adobe Reader and/or printer re-configs, re-sets or other actions I should try?
    Thanks

    Correction to initial post: The 6 tiny sections incorrectly printed on a single sheet are actually from the bottom right-hand quadrant of the original PDF page - NOT the upper right-hand quadrant.

  • Printing PDF files with smb/cups not possible // SLPReg status -20!

    Hello *,
    i am running SAMBA 3.6.1-1 and CUPS 1.5.0-1 on a dedicated system. Printer: Canon Pixma IP4500 (USB).
    The problem is that all Windows 7 clients are not able to print PDF files (since few months) on that printer while printing these files with Linux software is no problem. The PDF files are neither encrypted nor forbidden to print.
    I tried to print with Adobe Acrobat Reader X (latest) and Foxit Reader. Both are preparing the pages to be printed and close their printing dialog after processing. Windows printing queue does not show any jobs (which it even does not when printing simple images with MS Paint, which is not a problem).
    Windows systems are using the Canon Inkjet 4500 and Canon iP 4500 driver (manually installed). Printing images works with both drivers.
    I searched for "SLPReg […] failed with status -20!" but found no helpful information.

  • Default filename for print to file in Linux

    Hi,
    I'm using print to file in Linux, and I'd like the default filename to be the page title. I couldn't find a config option for this. It retains the last file name I used, which is very problematic for me, as I can easily overwrite my last printed file by accident.
    I'd also like the printer to default to print to file. Is that possible? Not a big deal, but it would save me a click. :-)
    BTW, I've found that the print to file for PDFs is excellent. It often produces PDFs that half the size of other options I've tried. Thank you!
    Ari

    This is not solved as I do not know where to change the default directory.

  • Using Bash script to edit config file

    This is a really simple question, but given that I'm just learning Bash scripting and having this solved now would be really illustrative for me, I would really thank some help here.
    I'm using uzbl, and running Tor+Polipo. So, as you will see below in the tail of the config file, there is a line to redirect the requests of uzbl through Polipo.
    # === Post-load misc commands ================================================
    sync_spawn_exec @scripts_dir/load_cookies.sh
    sync_spawn_exec @scripts_dir/load_cookies.sh @data_home/uzbl/session-cookies.txt
    # Set the "home" page.
    #set uri = https://duckduckgo.com
    # Local polipo proxy
    set proxy_url = http://127.0.0.1:8123
    # vim: set fdm=syntax:
    What I want to accomplish is to comment in/out that line with a key shortcut on Awesome. I've thought of doing 2 scripts to do so and using 2 differente key shortcuts, but I want to "toggle" the proxy redirection with only 1 shortcut. To do so, I suppose that the script should go something like:
    if
    tool 'set proxy_url = http://127.0.0.1:8123' config_file
    then
    tool '#set proxy_url = http://127.0.0.1:8123' config_file
    else
    if
    tool '#set proxy_url = http://127.0.0.1:8123' config_file
    then
    tool 'set proxy_url = http://127.0.0.1:8123' config_file
    fi
    fi
    I know little about sed, but I think is the tool for this job. The most intriging part to me is to ask sed to print the regular expression when it finds it in the config file, and use that as an input in the conditional statement.
    Well, this is a mess I have done here. Hope there is a simple answer to this.
    Thanks in advance.-

    You can do this with a single sed command:
    sed -i 's/^#set proxy_url/set proxy_url/;
    t end;
    s/^set proxy_url/#set proxy_url/;
    : end' config_file
    This edits the file in-place (-i) and first tries to replace the commented with the uncommented line. If that suceeds, sed jumps to the "end" label. If not, it tries to replace the uncommented with the commented line. Thus you don't have to include any logic about the current state: if the first substitution succeeds, the line was obviously commented, if not, it was uncommented, and the second substitution should succeed.
    Note that my knowledge of sed is very limited. There might be a simpler way to do this.
    EDIT: For the sake of example, here's how to do the same in bash using regular expressions. Note how this script needs to use a temporary file to simulate in-place editing, how it needs to process the file line by line manually, etc. All things that sed does out of the box...
    #!/bin/bash
    tmp=test.conf.tmp

  • HP7680 inkjet printer prints narrow blank (white) lines in multiple specific parts of page

    My HP7680 inkjet printer prints narrow blank (white) lines in multiple specific parts of each printed page. It appears to happen in the same parts of each page printed.
    - I installed new ink cartridges
    - I verified that the paper I’m using is the standard inkjet paper that I always use
    - In the tools section of the printer setup menu, I ran the “Clean Printhead”, “Align Printer”, and “Calibrate Linefeed” options
    - In reading the printer’s manual, it seems to imply that the printheads could be the problem.
    - So, I manually cleaned the printhead contacts
    - When I print the self-test diagnostics page, it shows printhead health to be “Good” for both. One of them was installed in January of 2009, and the other was installed March of 2008.
    - With a Q-tip, I even cleaned the clear plastic band that runs parallel to the carriage rod. (It was pretty dirty.)
    Here's a scan of the printed output.
    Thanks for your help!

    After a 2hr phone call with tech support, here is the solution; the L7600 Series printer have a firmware update (file name: OfficejetProK7600_R2011PxN.exe) my printer was bought in 2008 thus my print head is a 2008 model, and new print heads are a 2011 modem, they don’t work right in a 2008 model this is PER the tech rep and his name was John unless you upgrade the firmware.
    So I upgraded the firmware from a 2004NxN to the 2011PxN and now my printer says damaged or missing print head, I place the original print head from 2008 back in the machine and it’s fine, so I bought a 3rd print head for 2011 and it says the print head is damaged.
    After another 30min or so I was told I have a bad printer and sorry the warranty is out, but the old print head works but any new print heads do not, this sounds like a HP Error firmware / hardware compatibility issue, not my issue, but HP will not repair.
    HP has no fix nor will they repair the printer.

  • How text appears on page using an inkjet printer vs. Postcript

    Hello,
    I use Adobe Postcript fonts in my InDesign documents, and I like the way they look on a printed page when I use a Postscript printer.
    When I print a document on an inkjet printer the text looks blotchy and bloated, with the letters poorly formed.
    In my work I export the InDesign documents I write to a .pdf file and email them to the people I work for.  When they print the documents it looks as bad on their inkjet printer as it does on mine.
    It is what they are used to and they don't complain, and truth be told the inkjet-printed documents do not look terrible, but they don't look nearly as good as when they are printed on a Postcript printer.
    Is there a way, a preference setting perhaps, that I can make adjustments in the document so that the inkjet version looks as good as the Postscript version?
    Thank you,
    Patrick

    From the Xerox page
    Run Black feature lets you keep printing if you run out of color toner.
    Sounds good to me. A lot of color printers will stop working if one of the toner cartridges is low but sounds as thought this one will keep printing from the black cartridge even if one of the others is out. I will also note that I got it last year for $250 from Office Depot/Staples with the duplexer (both had it). The Staples price is a killer. No duplexer but under $200.

  • Xdo delivery config file: unknown server elements

    I am working on XML Pubisher for E-Business Suite version 5.6.3 with the EBS Bursting integration patch.
    I have created a xdodelivery.cfg config file to include a IPP printer definition:
    <config xmlns="http://xmlns.oracle.com/oxp/delivery/config">
    <servers>
    <server name="fb" type="ipp_printer">

    <authType>basic</authType>
    <username>***</username>
    <password>***</password>
    </server>
    </servers>
    </config>
    In my bursting control file I use the printer name ("fb") to deliver the bursted output to.
    Unfortunately the bursting request produces the following error in the log file:

    In the manual it was clearly stated that the element <servers> <server> etc could be used to setup a printer definition.
    Anyone any idea what goes wrong here?

  • SSL Flex Remote Object - no remoting-config file

    I realize that this topic has been discussed a lot, and I think
    I have the solution figured out.
    The problem is that I have to edit the remoting-config file - and there isn't one!
    I've hunted high and low on the server, and I just don't have the file.
    We are using Coldfusion                                      8,0,0,176276   Enterprise, and I have an instance for my flex applicaitons (we have multiple instances running, and none of them have the file).  The server is running on a Solaris VM.
    How do I fix this problem??
    Thanks!
    Jenn

    My context root is specified as the default "/" When I remove the context root variable from the services-config.xml, it can't find the file. I don't know where I can change context root, but I am confused as to what it should be, regardless.
    Add the -context-root to the compiler options, just like -services and set it to an empty string
    -services="/Applications/JRun4/servers/cfusion/cfusion-ear/cfusion-war/WEB-INF/f lex/servics-config.xml" -context-root=""

  • How can I ensure the integrity of my config files?

    I'm designing a system with some powerful features and I would like to make sure that the config files change only through my program. My concern is people running this on any of the Windows systems without a ACL. I was thinking of storing all the config files in Hsqldb and running them as virtual files through my program. This way I can encrypt the data, and enforce it easier through my program's ACL. I was also thinking of running a checksum on the data after any alterations and using this to compare whenever I read the data from there. I realize I can't physically stop someone from deleting the data who's in front of the machine but I'd like to make sure the integrity of my files is solid. I have reasons for designing it this way.

  • Airport Express - cannot read config file - cannot Hard reset

    Anyone, please help!
    I have an Airport Express as an 'add to an existing network' connected to the UFO Base Station (White). The internet connection is fine, but I cannot read the config file to access the wireless printer part. I have tried to reset the express - it resets it goes green still no read. I have tried to hard reset this back to the factory settings. Same thing, it thinks about it then everything is back green, same as before and I still cannot read the config. I will add that I have had to reset or hard reset or mess with this once a week since I got this. Is there anything else I can try. I have nothing connected to the express everything is wireless. Please I do know how to do a hard reset, its just not accepting the command.
    Anyone, please....

    Are you sure it's not alternating amber/green? I have seen it, it's hard to tell, if you are color blind
    , it's even harder.

  • Nbd config file

    hi,
    I'm kind of stuck with the nbd config file, it just doesn't work correctly.  It currently looks like this:
    $ cat /etc/nbd-server/config
    [generic]
    [nbdexport]
    exportname = /nbdfile
    port = 1234
    starting nbd via /etc/rc.d/nbd works fine, however, the expected export is not running. Instead I get:
    $ netstat -tulpen
    Active Internet connections (only servers)
    Proto Recv-Q Send-Q Local Address Foreign Address State User Inode PID/Program name
    tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:10809 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 0 8746628 29192/nbd-server
    As you can see, nbd is running on port 10809 instead of 1234 and connecting doesn't work either:
    $ nbd-client localhost 10809 /dev/nbd0
    Negotiation: .Error: Not enough cliserv_magic
    Exiting.
    If I start nbd-server manually, everything works as expected.
    nbd-server -C " " 1234 /nbdfile
    I add a non-existent config file (-C) because otherwise nbd parses the config file as well.
    What am I missing here? Is this a bug? I tried a lot of different options in the config but it simply never works as expected.

    Does anybody figure out how to specify the port?
    I have a weird behavior with `nbd-server` (3.10). If I specify the port, it still listens to a bunch of other ports. Only listening to the default port work for some reason.
    ~ sudo nbd-server localhost:9000 /dev/sdc
    ** (process:3121): WARNING **: Specifying an export on the command line is deprecated.
    ** (process:3121): WARNING **: Please use a configuration file instead.
    Below you can see that it listens to a bunch of other ports, including the default one.
    ~ sudo netstat -tlnp
    Active Internet connections (only servers)
    Proto Recv-Q Send-Q Local Address Foreign Address State PID/Program name
    tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:55055 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 3122/nbd-server
    tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:10809 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 3122/nbd-server
    tcp 0 0 127.0.0.1:9000 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 3122/nbd-server
    tcp6 0 0 :::51489 :::* LISTEN 3122/nbd-server
    tcp6 0 0 ::1:9000 :::* LISTEN 3122/nbd-server
    My config file is simple:
    [generic]
    user = nbd
    group = nbd
    [otherexport]
    exportname = /dev/sdc
    #port = 9000
    Of course, it prints a warning that specifying an export on the command line is deprecated. But without `/dev/sdc` argument it will ignore the port completely and listen to the default port.
    ~ sudo nbd-server localhost:9000
    ~ sudo netstat -tlnp
    Active Internet connections (only servers)
    Proto Recv-Q Send-Q Local Address Foreign Address State PID/Program name
    tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:10809 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 3171/nbd-server
    Running it without any arguments does work. It starts without warnings and it listens to only one port, as you can see below. Unfortunately that's not the port I want it to listen to:
    ~ sudo nbd-server
    ~ sudo netstat -tlnp
    Active Internet connections (only servers)
    Proto Recv-Q Send-Q Local Address Foreign Address State PID/Program name
    tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:10809 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 3222/nbd-server
    Switching to oldstyle protocol does not work:
    ~ sudo nbd-server
    ** Message: Since 3.10, the oldstyle protocol is no longer supported. Please migrate to the newstyle protocol.
    ** Message: Exiting.
    the config for the command above ^ was
    [generic]
    oldstyle=true
    user = nbd
    group = nbd
    [otherexport]
    exportname = /dev/sdc
    port = 9000

  • Cisco spa502g incorrect config file provisioned

    Hi Guys,
    Apologies if this is not in the right location for this question. But i have several phones which have not been rmeoved from the portal correctly or have been used as test phones on site. Now i have been able to get them removed from portal so that i can use them again however the issue i face is i cant reset the physical phones, they currently have a config file which if you log into the phone is asking for username and password so i cant check the URL for the provisioning file. I have no idea what this username and password would be and i have also tried doing it through the phone to no avail. I have read about how it may be possible to force a config file on using a tftp server, so have downloaded Solar winds but will be honest i have no idea how to do it. Nor have i got a config file to put on the phone.
    I am in a business enviroment so have got a POE switch and plugged laptop directly in and a SPA502G plugged in next to it. I have left the device all weekend to see if it would pick up a new config file after it cant find one as this was advised to me by BT wholesale. This has not worked either.
    Could somebody please asssit me with either explaining how i can get a config file on using solar winds tftp or if somebody knows another process on how i can reset these phones to ensure they have got the right provision file.
    Look forward to your response.
    Thank you
