SOlaris 10 install from laptop

Hi, I was just wondering if there's any way I can make a Solaris installation using a Solaris OS image on my laptop, so i don't have to carry a USB key, or change it everytime I need to install or re-install a server.
Basically, I would setup ALOM, and then run the installation from my Windows based laptop while being able to do other work during the installation. Is there anyway I could do this?
Thanks

VMWare or Virtual Box could setup a virtual Solaris instance that installs from your laptop.
Cheers,

The "restore disk" is built into the Mac. See About Recovery.
Need more specifics about what error messages you got while installing Adobe Flash.
However, you can almost avoid Flash altogether by setting YouTube to play the HTML5 version instead.
Click the Try something new! link at the bottom of the YouTube page.
I don't know about the sound issue. Might be hardware as you think. Try other headphones to check.

  • How to install Solaris 8 from Hard disk?

    Hi.
Im downloading Solaris 8 from a free FTP server. Some body can explain me what i need to install Solaris 8 from my hard disk?

Well first if you are downloading the cd images to a non Solaris machine, they are ISO images that cd burning software and a cd burner will use to burn a bootable cd. After you create the cd's boot cd 1 of 2 and the install will begin. I read somewhere that if you download the images to a solaris machine you can mount the image as a CD and share it and then install directly from the image over a network. I am not too clear on exactly how that is done since I downloaded to W2K.

A single user license allows for having activated installations on two machines. An Elements license allows for either platform in many cases (recently not the case from what I've seen).  If you have the disc, see if it contains the Mac installation files... if it does then you should be able to install them via a download as well.  I cannot answer with certainty for the last question since it relies on the previous question.  Personally, I would not let an inexpensive piece of software dictate an expensive hardware purchase decision.

  • Moving disks while maintaining Solaris 10 install from one v240 to another.

    Hi,
    I want to move a Solaris 10 install from a sunfire v240
with a single cpu to another sunfire v240 with dual cpu's. Here are the
details of the hosts as well as configuration.
I have 2 sunfire v240's. One has a single 1 Ghz cpu and the second has
dual 1.5 Ghz cpu. I want to move the disks of the single cpu host to
the host with dual cpu's. I want to keep the installed version of
Solaris 10 intact. The installation of Solaris is split across 2
mirrored disks, i.e. 4 disks in total. I am using Suns volume manager
for mirroring and also have one files system mirrored with zfs.
The questions I have are the following:
    1) Can I simply shut down the servers and swap the disks to the
destination host, in the same disk slots? The controllers the disks are
on line up and are the same between the 2 hosts.
    2) Will the kernel pickup the changes moving from a single 1 Ghz cpu to
dual 1.5. Ghz cpu's with out any problems? Will the kernel pickup the
faster cpu's speeds. i.e. will it know it is now running dual 1.5. Ghz
cpu opposed to a single 1 Ghz?
    3) Would we have to break the mirroring on the OS before shutting it
    down?
    4) As another option, instead of swapping disks, could we swap the
cpus? Move the dual 1.5. Ghz cpu's to the other host? Will the
motherboards read the updates of the cpu or are their jumper settings we
    would need to update?
    Thanks for your help.

I know there are many factors, but I'm pretty new to both unix & oracle, so I >needed some general steps to get me started. You have many options.
Since you're in 10g, Have the Target Database created in Solaris 10 x86, Oracle 11g.
    you can use,
RMAN - Cross platform Transportable Tablespaces.
    Datapump Export and Datapump import.

  • Installing Solaris 10 from a SCSI DVD driveand a Tekram DC-390U adapter

I'm tryng to install Solaris x86 from a SCSI DVD drive wth a Tekram DC-390U adapter (DVD version downloaded from the sun website).
When the computer boots from the DVD the Solaris Configuration Assistant is run and ask me to choose the device which I want to boot from. The problem is the list only contains my hard drive and a CD drive, but not the DVD drive.
I guess Solaris doesn't include any driver for that specific SCSI adapter, which I find quite surprising as any old Linux or *BSD works fine with it. And the card is also listed in the device list Solaris has found while probing the system.
I tried to download drivers from the Tekram webiste but they are limited to Solaris 8. I didn't try them 'cause it takes me so much time to get a floppy drive up and running...
PS : Installing on a VirtualPC 2004 guest works fine, but it's so slow...

I downloaded the latest version of Solaris 10, and that solved the problem of the continual reboots. Now the keyboard doesn't work, but that's a different problem.

  • Can i install flar image of solaris 10 from V890 to v480?

    Team,
Please help me for a confusion that can i install flar image of solaris 10 from V890 to v480?
We have very good flar image of solaris 10 and want to install same on other machine.
this machine hosting the Oracle database on it.
    Thanks

Generally speaking, as long as you are in the same processor family (4u, 4m, 4c, 4v etc) you can do so.
The caveat is that the OS has to support the particular model you are on. No worries with S10 though.

  • How to install from a Solaris 8 install .iso?

I want to try to install Solaris 8 in an LDOM. I know that it is "not supported" - but it may be possible, according to some discussions I have had, so I want to try.
Unfortunately, when I try the naive approach and add the iso image of the CD as a virtual disk to the domain and try to boot from it, it tells me the file isn't executable. The explanation, it seems, is that the CD actually contains several slices, and only the first one is visible when you look at it as an iso file. So, I guess my question is: Is it actually possible to get to a point where I can try to install from this CD image into an LDOM?

Well, if it was supported you would be able to ;)
The thing with the SPARC installation CD's is that they are indeed sliced, i think the reason for it to be sliced is that different slices supports different CPU architectures, so that slice 2 (or slice :b when you boot it from an OK prompt) was originally, long time ago, used for the sun4c CPU's, slice 3 (or :c) was used for sun4m and slice 4 (:d) was used for sun4d.
Then came sun4u which used slice 5/:e
Then slice 0 would contain a HSFS filesystem which actually contained the packages and the installation program.
You can get the vtoc with dd, and then extract the slices you want with dd and access them using LOFS. But yet again this is probably futile. I don't think there is a single chip in the T4 hardware which is supported with Solaris 8.
Given how powerful the T4 seems, and how ineffective Solaris 8 could sometimes be at utilizing resources, it would also seem like a waste..
Have you had a look at native zones? that way you can run Solaris 8 / 9 in zones under Solaris 10..

Not to put too fine a point on it, but please look at the error message next time. It says right there in the error message that the CD/DVD drive is detecting a media error.
Recreate the Solaris 8 CDs on the slowest speed possible for the CD writer. I've run into this situation far too often where CDs were created in the fastest write mode, which older drives are often not capable of reading. I have had 100% successs when creating the Solaris CDs at 4x .
If you are still getting a media error, chances are that your CD/DVD drive is either breaking/broken or it does not like the brand of media that you used.

  • Installing Solaris 10 From HDD .iso

How can I install Solaris 10 from the downloaded .iso file on my HDD. Is it possible at all? I currently don't have a DVD burner so it would be beneficial for me if I could skip the burning the .iso on a DVD step.
    Thanks in advance.

    1) Mount the iso as a LOFS.Well, not lofs. On Solaris lofs is the filesystem loopback driver (which lets you mount a portion of a filesystem elsewhere).
For filesystems in a single file, you want LOFI via 'lofiadm'.
    lofiadm -a /path/to/install_media.iso
mount -r -F hsfs /dev/lofi/1 /mnt (or whatever paths are valid...)

Cannot transfer from laptop to Kobo due to wrong install.Would like to save my sign in.how do I reset and start over ?

Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Win 8.1 won't install to MX100 256GB when installed in Laptop

Three months ago I bought a MX100 256GB drive. It installed and performed flawlessly in my PC.  A month ago I bought a Lenovo Flex 2 15 laptop. I decided to remove the MX100 from the PC and install it in the Lenovo. I downloaded Windows 8.1 from Microsoft and installed it on to a USB drive.  The install went normal until it actually came to installing Windows on the drive. It wouldn't install. I got the message: "We couldn't install Windows in the location you chose...(edit)...error code 0x80300002". I clicked refresh and the MX100 disappeared from the box. The only way to make it return was to restart the windows installation which ended with the same result. My son then decided to clone his Adata 128GB SSD to the MX100. The MX100 booted and performed perfectly on his PC. We then installed a Samsung EVO 500GB SSD into the Lenovo laptop. Windows 8.1 installed from the USB and ran perfectly (It's in the laptop now, which I am now using). He then cloned the Samsung EVO to the MX100 and installed it into the laptop. The Laptop booted to a blue screen saying there were errors. The firmware for the Lenovo and the MX100 are both up to date. We managed to install Windows 7 64 bit to the MX100 by setting the Bios from UEFI to Legacy. Trying to install Windows 8.1 using legacy instead of UEFI failed.Last night we used Diskpart to delete all the volumes on the MX100 but did not format it. Windows 8.1 failed to install again with the same 0x80300002 error. We are stymied. Any help would be appreciated.

Here's what I would do..... Make sure your BIOS is back to UEFI default settings.  You should be able to load the default BIOS settings, and then save and exit. Make sure you don't have any other HDD/SSD plugged in except for your MX100. Boot your Microsoft Windows 8.1 media USB drive. Run diskpart clean:list diskselect disk ?diskpart>cleanexitexit Navigate back to the Microsoft media USB tools....where it says shutdown/powerdown computer. Power down your computer. Unplug your computer for 30 seconds. Boot your Microsoft Windows 8.1 media USB drive Run diskpart clean (again)diskpart>list diskdiskpart>select disk ?diskpart>cleanexitexit Navigate to power down your computer Boot your Microsoft Windows 8.1 media USB drive Install Windows 8.1 on the entire unallocated space (do not partition and do not format).  The USB Windows installer will do everything for you.

  • How can I initiate dual boot install from a CMD window...?

Laptop hardware meets sys req for Win 10 and currently runs 8.1
    Samsung RV-511-S01UK
    i3 380M @ 2.53Ghz
    6GB RAM
Discrete Nvidia 315M 1GB dedicated VRAM
Having first tried 10 inside a VM... and it looks ok.... time to try it on real hardware instead of the restricted emulation.
I'm attempting to clean install and create a DUAL_BOOT on prepared partition
ISO downloaded direct from the correct link (SHA-1 checked)
USB... or DVD... installer created with the MS installer tool.
ALL attempts to install by booting from either installer medium, trying builds 9926, 10041 and 10049 (64 and 32 bit), end before they start....... the process stops completely at the very first screen.... the logo screen.... the indicator dots beneath
the logo screen which appear as standard to 'indicate' that a 'process' is happening in the background NEVER appear... even after an 8 hour wait in one instance.
Even if I follow the install instructions supplied on the download page here instead of booting direct:
    5. Double-tap or double-click setup.exe from the installation media, and then follow the steps.
it gets to a point within the process and has to restart.... then it stops as soon as the logo screen appears just as it does when I try and boot from the created installers.
There seems to be a problem at the Windows logo screen which halts the entire installation process !!! It suggests a BIOS/Win 10 conflict, but only one way to really find out..... process log...?
The only way to discover where the error lies is to observe the process happening as it happens in real time (if that's possible) or create log file of my attempt.... from within a CMD window...? Unfortunately I don't know the language of CMD code
    well enough.
I would like someone to assist with the correct code on how to initiate the install from within a CMD window so that I can see the process happen in real time within the window and therefore observe exactly where the instruction is failing.... but
as stated if running a CMD during install is not possible then a saved log file to refer to after fail and reboot into 8.1
This should make it easier to define the problem and as such discover the solution
If someone can supply the code it would be very helpful..... if no-one here knows I'll pop over to the Linux forum and ask one of the people there after setting up Ubuntu with a spare partition for the Win 10 TP
    cheers

    Hi base1268,
Can you find the following log files when you reboot into Windows 8.1?
    C:\$WINDOWS.~BT\Sources\Panther\setupact.log
    C:\$WINDOWS.~BT\Sources\Panther\setuperr.log
    C:\$Windows.~BT\Sources\Rollback\setupact.log
Actually, for current situation, I suggest you use native boot to try Windows 10 Technical Preview:

it still works for Windows 10 Technical Preview.

I just noticed the same. Looking at the following error message it seems to do a version check and based on the results of that check I would think that it's not supported yet.
System.ArgumentException: User agent string ("Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.4; Win64; x64; Trident/7.0; MSAuthHost/1.0; rv:11.0) like Gecko") does not contain match for Windows version regex pattern ("Windows NT (?<Version>6\.2|6\.3)").
