Solaris 10 install on Virtualbox2.1.4 is 32-bit

HI,
I installed Solaris 10 5/08 s10x_u5wos_10 X86 on a PC x86 (Intel Dual CPU E2180 @ 2.00GHz LGA 775) ,it is OK and is 64bit.

Now I plan to install this solaris version on virtualbox in the PC. The virtualbox is downloaded from sun.com ,VirtualBox-2.1.4-42893-SunOS.tar.gz .I installed the Virtualbox and the guest solaris 10, but after the guest solaris boots, it is 32-bit.

What's the problem ? I can't find any way to resolve it?

In the user guide of Virtual Box (http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/2.1.4/UserManual.pdf)
Starting with Version 2.0, VirtualBox also supports 64-bit guest operating systems.
Starting with Version 2.1, you can even run 64-bit guests on a 32-bit host operating
system, so long as you have sufficient hardware.
In detail, 64-bit guests are supported under the following conditions:
1. You need a 64-bit processor with hardware virtualization support (see chapter
1.2, Software vs. hardware virtualization (VT-x and AMD-V), page 10).
2. You must enable hardware virtualization for the particular VM for which you
want 64-bit support; software virtualization is not supported for 64-bit VMs.
Note: On most systems, the hardware virtualization features first need to be
enabled in the BIOS before VirtualBox can use them.
3. If you want to use 64-bit guest support on a 32-bit host operating system, you
must also select a 64-bit operating system for the particular VM. Since supporting
64 bits on 32-bit hosts incurs additional overhead, VirtualBox only enables this
support upon explicit request.
On 64-bit hosts, 64-bit guest support is always enabled, so you can simply install
a 64-bit operating system in the guest.
Warning: On any host, you should enable the I/O APIC for virtual machines
that you intend to use in 64-bit mode. This is especially true for 64-bit Windows
VMs. See chapter 3.7.1.2, Advanced tab, page 46. In addition, for
64-bit Windows guests, you should make sure that the VM uses the Intel networking
device, since there is no 64-bit driver support for the AMD PCnet
card; see chapter 6.1, Virtual networking hardware, page 77.So I think the problem comes from other. And perhaps damogyz you find in this extract

When I do a 'boot cdrom' from the OK prompt, it goes through installation, but stops about 50% in saying 'no disk detected, check connection, etc..'
There is a disk, and the installed hard drive was formatted using a command string in linux by the vendor, but the Solaris install doesn't see it.

Since the problem is ACPI related, perhaps your bios has an option to

I saw that the 11g installer script had the same problem last year. Why is this still a problem? How do I work around it?? The prior 11g workarounds did not work for me.

Ops Center bundles the Java runtime in the installation but it will not install it if there's a newer version already installed.
In your case, you only have 32 bits version installed which is newer, so Ops Center cannot continue as you cannot install a lower version of the 64 bits.
This will tell you the 32 bits version:
# pkgparam SUNWj7rt VERSION
You're probably missing the SUNWj7rtx - which is the 64 bit version.
This will probably give you an error (this will check the 64-bit java version):
# pkgparam SUNWj7rtx VERSION
To see if you have it installed:
# pkginfo | grep SUNWj7rtx
To resolve this, you should install the same version in 64 bits (SUNWj7rtx) and then try the Ops Center installation again.

HT1349 Trying to install latest iTunes for Windows 7 64-bit. Keep getting this error message "Service 'Apple Mobile Device' (Apple Mobile Device) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services."

Initially iTunes would not run although it had been running quite well up until now. Suddenly received this error on PC start-up "The program can't start because MSVC80.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem." Research on Net pointed me to iTunes as the issue. Tried to start iTunes and received that message again. Tried installing latest version of 64-bit iTunes and received the subject message part way through the install: Trying to install latest iTunes for Windows 7 64-bit. Keep getting this error message "Service 'Apple Mobile Device' (Apple Mobile Device) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services."
iTunes has been running great on this PC for years. What's up?

Should I have installed Microsoft Office 2010 Filter Pack 64 bit with Ex 2013 SP1?

I have installed Exchange 2013 SP1 on a 2012R2 server, and all went well (I am at early stages of migration).
Following the pre-reqs listed here: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb691354%28v=exchg.150%29.aspx#WS2012
I installed Microsoft Unified Communications Managed API 4.0, Core Runtime 64-bit only.
Since then I have seen other articles suggesting that I install:
Microsoft Office 2010 Filter Pack 64 bit
Microsoft Office 2010 Filter Pack SP1 64 bit
Given I didn't notice any errors in the install, do I need to install those filter packs or is that outdated advice?

Install Captivate 4 on Windows 7 64-bit machine with Windows XP mode?

Hi,
I have been searching the web to find out the best way/place in which to load Captivate 4 on my Windows 7 64-bit machine. Seems some people have issues with recording, others don't. I have Windows XP mode on my machine.
My question is... what's the best way to load Captivate 4 on Windows 7 - should I install to Windows 7 and see how it goes. Or should I install under Windows XP mode?

Try running Cp4 in WinXp compatibility mode on Win7. Also make sure
you're set to Run as Administrator.
I run Cp4 on Win7 without issues. But other users report similar problems
to yourself. In the end, it may or may not work for you because Adobe has
never claimed Cp4 was compatible with Vista or Win7 64bit.

Does 11.1.1.6 OBIEE simple install work properly on Windows 7 64 bit OS?

Can anyone confirm if the simple install for 11.1.1.6 simple install works normally on Windows 7 64 bit OS? I have run into a slew of issues including:
1. hanging on the Create Domain. Stays at 0% for 2 hours and then fails
2. Pre requisite checks do not work in a stable way (sometimes they fail and need to be ignored and other times they succeed)
I removed all Oracle software and tried a completely clean install (DB, RCU, OBIEE, etc)..I have my loopback adapter set and also have JDK.
Do we need to manually do the WLS + Software only to get this to work or does the Simple install actually work on Win 7 64 bit??

I've downloaded the 64-bit version downloadable from OTN and able to run the irca.bat on DB 10.2.0.3 however the SOA Installer fails at BPEL Config Assistant step with errors :

CAN'T INSTALL ITUNES 9 ON WINDOWS VISTA 64-BIT OS

I'm having a reaaaallly hard time installing iTunes on my Windows Vista 64-bit OS. Everytime I think it's about to finish installing, it shows me this message:
What does it mean?? Can someone PLEASE help me, I haven't had music on my iPhone for 4 weeks now!

Curses ... you did everything right by providing the screenshot, thanks. But we really need to see the error message number that shows up after the "HRESULT" bit for one of those, and it's deciding not show us that.
Okay ... people who get these error messages for iTunes installs typically are also getting Windows updates failures too. So we'll try to work out what the iTunes/Updates issue is by checking your Update history.
Go into your Windows Update and click "Update History". Have updates been failing for you recently? If so, doubleclick on each failure to bring up a small window showing some info about the failure.
What error message codes are you getting for the Windows Updates failures? (For example, 0x8007000B, or something else?)

Install Mobile Sales on Windows 7 64-bit?

I found note 1469507 today, which enables Mobile Sales 7.0 SP4 to work on Windows 7. However, it is not mentioned which bit-versions of Windows are supported. The documentation for this version of Mobile Sales hasn't yet been updated, so Windows 7 isn't mentioned in the compatibility list at all.
Has anyone installed MSA 7.0 on a 64-bit version of Windows 7 or can confirm that this is supported?

Cannot install itunes on windows v8.1 64 bit

Cannot install iTunes on Windows v8.1 64 bit.

The old blue iTunes worked fine on my pc, then along came the new red iTunes, which initially refused to install from an auto-update notification, saying it didn't have permission to access one of its own folders (self access to all its other folders was ok).
I then tried a manual download and install as suggested by the auto-update failure dialogue and that was exactly the same - failed at the last hurdle and had to reset itself.
I then tried download and install from iTunes site and this installed without problem, but the application will not open, neither from the desktop icon with user or admin rights, nor from a direct open or run as admin from the iTunes folder .exe file.
I have tried a repair install and an aggressive uninstall to ensure any TSR components are purged followed by a clean install - no difference.
My other pc is no problem and iTunes installed and runs on there fine, so it must be a configuration problem on this pc only.
I disabled my antivirus and malware detection during the install and made an exception for iTunes, to no effect.
When selecting the app I get a blue circle for a few seconds then nothing, no dialogue or notification of problems.
Any suggestions welcomed.
