Solaris 10 installation says I changed boot device when I didn't

Hello,
I'm new at Solaris 10, and have been trying to do a net install with Solaris 10 8/07 (127111-11, s10s_u4wos_12b) on
a brand new (but older version of Solaris 10, which is now wiped out) V245 Sunfire.
When it comes to setting up the disk for installation, I have tried a couple of different things, but all seem
to result in
"Warning: Different Boot Device
Because you have changed the boot device (where the root ('/')

So -- I have tried manual layout, auto layout (following is what I want) -- and the first
screen tells me that c0t0d0 IS my boot device!

Immediately after the "remote server" and next screen, it says:
Warning: CHANGING DEFAULT BOOT DEVICE
Then it suggests going back and changing the default for EEPROM -- but -- does not allow me to go back!
At this point it appears to be installing. But it just sits at the timeline screen
"Solaris Initial Install
MBytes Installed: 0.00
MBytes Remaining: 3772.80
Installing: Open Card Framework
Forever.
Where am I going wrong?

Well, actually I don't have a console directly plugged in -- so I only have the secure console server
access, which seems to lock me into the single window mode where the installation stalls.
I left it going all weekend and it still stalls immediately when the installation is
supposed to begin (the "solaris initial install" screen with the percent completed bar at the bottom).
So I am unable to access the system (ctrl-c, ctrl-z do not seem to have any effect) other than
the installation guide interface. How do I get past this problem? Is it something to do with
when I turned off the firmware that keeps popping up the DHCP message (I'm not going to have
this machine's IP dynamically assigned)??? Is there something in the firmware that I need
to set???

Change Boot Device to Use CD First - Win7 - HP1360t

In trying to solve another problem with my PC I loaded my Ghost CD so that on reboot I could use Ghost to revert the system. But the system never went to the CD drive and instead booted normally. As it turned out the boot worked and somehow my origianl problem was solved. But I still need to make sure the CD device is tried first.
I've gone into the BIOS and I notice that the CD drive is 1st in the list under the Legacy list and I can move the arrow up and down, and hit enter all I want, but nothing indicates that the CD is the first drive to try on boot.
What am I doing wrong, or not understanding?

"HP1360t" doesn't appear to be a valid model name or product number. Assuming you mean you have a HP Pavilion HPE h8-1360t CTO Desktop Computer and it is has a UEFI compatible BIOS, the Legacy boot options will always occur after the UEFI boot options. For example...
UEFI - Hard Drive
UEFI - Internal CD/DVD
Legacy - Internal CD/DVD
Legacy - Hard Drive
As long as the UEFI Hard Drive is connected and functional, it will boot ahead of any Legacy device. If you move the UEFI CD/DVD above the UEFI Hard Drive and the Ghost CD is UEFI boot compliant, it may be possible to get it to boot before the Hard Drive.Additionally, you should be able to tap "ESC" or "F9" immediately after turning on your computer and directly select at boot device from the menu. This method should allow you to boot the "Ghost CD" regardless of it being UEFI or Legacy.

Change boot device

I have SunFire V210 with no internal CD/DVD drive. How do I get it to boot from an external
cd drive.
I do a probe-scsi-all and I get the following:

Try:
boot /pci@1d,700000/pci@1/scsi@5/sd@6,0:f
Since probe-scsi-all sees it then we should probably be using "sd" as in "scsi disk". cdrom@ would be used if it were other than SCSI, such as IDE.

How to change Boot device order to enable install of OS from CD/DVD?

I have an external USB CD/DVD drive. I would like to from YOGA "OFF", boot to this drive.
From YOGA "OFF" tried the tiny button (pused with pencil point), choose boot menu, this is using "windows boot mgr.", it said to use the "UP & Down" arrows to, change then press <enter>
The up & down arrows offered NO other choices than what was already there.
So from off how do i boot to the CD/DVD plugged into the USB port?

First go to BIOS setup and turn off secure boot. If that doesn't do it, switch the boot mode from UEFI to legacy.

How to change Boot settings when Windows is not starting?

Ich bitte um Hilfe,
Ich habe unabsichtlich in der msconfig Anwendung bei start--> Erweiterte Optionen--> maximaler Speicher ein Häckchen rein gemacht und somit unabsichtlich den max Arbeitsspeicher
(wie mir erst später klar wurde) auf ca 2000 MB gestellt.
Leider ist es nun nicht mehr möglich den laptop zu starten, dies führt immer zu einem bue-screen und der HP Fehlerbehebung.
Was kann ich tun um das wieder um zu ändern?
Ich habe auch schon Versucht mit einem anderem OS zu starten (ubuntu auf SD karte) führt aber zu den selben Resultaten.
Was kann ich tun um das wieder umzuändern? (Am Besten wäre ein Befehl fuhr die Armin Console)

IPMITOOL - change the booting device from disk to network

I am using ipmitool utility to change boot device on Sun T3 machine. Currently DISK is set as boot device for Sun T3 machine. I am running the following ipmitool utility commands to force boot from network. But everytime I power on/off the Sun T3 machine, it always boots from DISK.
The setup I am in is the following:
I use ipmitool and connect to ilom of sun t3 and perform/monitor the sun t3 host machine.

The host machine is Sparc Sun T3. It is not x86 hardware.
Ideally I would like to use ipmitool to change the boot device. The commands I am running are the following:
ipmitool -I lanplus -H xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx -U root -P tom chassis bootdev pxe clear-cmos=yes
ipmitool -I lanplus -H xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx -U root -P tom chassis bootparam set bootflag force_pxe
Both commands run to successful but no effect on changing the boot device.
I tried with obp command and SP command like you mentioned below, both are not change the boot order. Not tired eeprom yet.
ideally i want to write a shell script which when run would connect to ilom of Sun T3 Sparc and run change the boot device.

Cannot find boot device, cannot continue.

Im trying to install arch linux on my eeepc but im running into problems, i choose arch linux from the installer menu and then as it goes on it suddenly stops saying 'Cannot find boot device, cannot continue... Falling back to interactive prompt' and im pretty sure thats not meant to happen so what do i do?

I am getting this error as well using the archlinux-2009.02-core 64 bit iso image.

then I get a $ prompt, and cannot use keyboard, I have to manually push the power button to restart.

I am having trouble signing into my adobe account on my tablet it says failed to authorize device?

I am having trouble signing into my adobe account on my tablet. When I sign in it says failed to authorize device when I sign in and I have used my adobe account on this tablet in the past.

I have tried that several times as well. All that I get is a white screen that says "hello" and tells me "Update Completed Your iPhone was updated successfully. There are just a few more steps to follow, and then you're done!" so i click "continue" it asks for my iCloud password, I put it in and it goes black gives me white apple logo then takes me right back to where I started with the white "hello" screen displaying. Ive tried resetting my password multiple times and nothing is happening, I dont know what else to do.

1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
Don't be put off merely by the seeming complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. All it does is to collect information about the state of the computer. That information goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. However, you should be cautious about running any kind of program (not just a shell script) at the behest of a stranger. If you have doubts, search this site for other discussions in which this procedure has been followed without any report of ill effects. If you can't satisfy yourself that the instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
4. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
5. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
6. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
7. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
8. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "syntax error," enter
exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
9. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
10. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
[Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report the results. No harm will be done.
11. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with "Model Identifier." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
12. When you post the results, you might see the message, "You have included content in your post that is not permitted." It means that the forum software has misidentified something in the post as a violation of the rules. If that happens, please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.

"Can't open boot device" mesage when installing Solaris 10 by cdrom

I am getting the following error message when I try to install Solaris 10 from cdrom:
"Can't open boot device."
The system I am trying to install to is a SunFire v100.
The boot command I am using is:
ok boot cdrom - nowin
I have used this cd to successfully install several other v100s without any trouble. I have tried another cd and get the same behavior. I have also tried installing another v100 and get the same error.
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

It is very difficult to offer troubleshooting suggestions when the "os version" you are using is unknown as each os has their own troubleshooting solutions.
You can also post in your installed os section of the message board.

S10-3: Change BIOS boot device sequence with + - keys does'nt work

I want to boot my IdeaPad S10-3 from an USB HDD.
In the default BIOS setting this is the 4th or 5th line in the boot device list.
The help instructions in the right column of the BIOS page tell me to use the <+> and <-> keys to move an entry up or down. When I do this, the BIOS only responds with annoyed beeps.
If the keys refer to a numeric keypad: there is none, and neither an indication how to map one onto the existing keys.
Is this Netbook delivered with a BIOS that was designed for other PCs ?
A workaround is to press <x> twice on a device above the desired boot device:
The 1st press excludes the device, the 2nd press moves it to the end of the list.
In this Forum I have found hints that "incorrect" changes of the boot device list may disable the internal harddisk, but I can't find precise definitions of "correct" changes that avoid this.
Do I miss something or this just an improper BIOS ?

before I received your new Info about Fn+Insert , I had once more checked Fn-F7 : no effect in the BIOS.
I have also tried all non-character keys plus the "Umlaute"-keys on the German keyboard with the following result:
The key right of the "0" shifts boot device entries down in the list.
On the German keyboard this key is labelled with " ß ? \ ".
The next key on the right and left of the "Backward-Erase"-key, labelled with " ´ ` ",
pressed together with the Shift-key, moves list entries up.
Using these keys I have then set the Boot device sequence according to your suggestion :
1: USB CDROM
2: USB HDD
3: HDD
My USB-Memory stick (with BartPE installed) had been recognized as a USB HDD.
After saving with F10 and <Return> the Netbook responded with a Beep and nothing further happened.
I had to switch it off with a long press on the Power Button.
Switched on again, <F2> pressed, BIOS checked,, o.k. <ESC>,
loads Ramdisk image of BartPE from the USB-stick,
starts BartPE with XPE.
Checking available drives in the Windows Explorer resulted in :
RAMDISK ( "B:" )                (used by BartPE for temporary storage)
USB ("C:")                        (the USB-stick with the BartPE-iso file)
"Wechseldatenträger / Removable storage device"           obviously refers to an unused USB-Port
-volid ("X:") "CD-drive"    but actually another Ramdisk containing the expanded and running BartPE package
The internal harddisk is not visible !
I wonder whether this is a problem of the BIOS or whether I require special harddisk drivers (Intel Matrix Storage manager/driver or possibly AHCP drivers) for Windows XP, because my present BartPE version is based on XP, while the Netbook came with Windows 7 Starter Edition.
Further helpful hints would very much appreciated.

Getting an error 'Cannot open Boot device' while trying to install Solaris

Hi,
We were trying to install Solaris * on a Sun Sparc system and the CD rom drive does not seem to get recognised. When we try booting from cd rom we get an error 'Cannot open boot device' .
This server was up & running and we were trying to remove a hard disk that had failed and modified the vfstab script . After that the system failed to even boot up. So when we tried reinstalling the OS we are running into this problem.
Am new to this technology ...And any help would be greatly appreciated. .....

Cdrom drive must be scsi device 6
I assume you are running < boot cdrom> at the ok prompt
also at the ok prompt run the command <probe-scsi> (without the angled brackets) you need to see the following:
Target 6
Unit 0 Removable read only device TOSHIBA XM.......bigpileofnumbers
If not, check the cdrom drive and the cdrom inside

"Inaccessible boot device" error message when I try to boot up.

Greetings, I recently upgraded to Windows 10, and I wanted to do a factory reset yesterday. I did this, and when it tried to boot up after it was finished I got the error message "Inaccessible boot device", and then my computer kept on restarting itself over and over, and never getting into the OS properly. I am using a Portege R705-P35. I tried searching for the device drivers to install on a USB and booting from this, but my computer could not boot from this properly. So i believe my problem is related to the device driver. What is the exact driver I need to boot up? I checked the Toshiba site and there was a list of about 25 drivers for my PC, and I'm not sure which would work. All help is greatly appreciated on this

I have excatly the same issue on my WT8-A. I have been running Windows 10 as an Insider for months on the device, and after RTM decided to do a full reset. I now get the same message as the OP saying "INACCESSIBLE BOOT DEVICE" I now have an unusabe device. Please help.

Keeps saying reboot and select proper boot device

I have a toshiba qosimo x775 that i just got last month and 2 days ago norton said it had just prevented me from gettinga virus and then my laptop decided to just turn off when i turned it on agian it would not start the operating system and just stayed on a page that that said something about it patents so i decided to tweek boot settings to see if that would help and now im stuck with it saying reboot and select proper boot device so what should i do. should i just buy the media recovery disk and restore it factory settings because i dont have one or is there something else i could do any help would be appreciated.

THROUGH F12 AT STARTUP
To access the System Restore, Refresh and Reset options using the F12 option at startup, perform the following:
If not already, ensure the computer is completely shut down. How To: Shut Down a Laptop with Windows 8
Now restart the computer by pressing the power button - IMMEDIATELY start tapping the F12 key on the keyboard until the "Boot Menu" screen appears.
Using the arrow keys, select <HDD Recovery> and press "Enter".
On the next screen you are asked to confirm if you want to contiue with recovery. Select "Yes".
The computer will bring you to the Advanced startup screen.
Select Troubleshoot. Under Troubleshoot you will see “Refresh” and “Reset”.
Select “Advanced options.” Located here is "System Restore."
